Hello,
i'm i9300 and latest version of system updated, its odd that i can install clockwork (i9300GS3CWM6.0.1.2.tar) but when i reset to recovery, it goes to android stock recovery, any ideas?
Need to move to I9300 forum. This is I535. Must be rooted and there is a mod that has to be done or something turned off. I don't use CWM so no help here.
It's because of the two scripts that have to be renamed. If u have root use root explorer and rename these two files:
System/recovery-from-boot.p
System/etc/install-recovery.sh
Add
. bak to the end of these two files and then re flash the cwm tar, it will stick after doing so. Good luck

I rooted my GNote 10.1 with zedomax's method, including flashing CWM recovery and had no issues with it. I wanted to upgrade to JB, and was going to try CM10, but when I tried to flash the .zip file through CWM, it gives me an error message. I have included a screenshot of the error message if it will help.
I know it's not an official CWM, but I'm reading how others have done this and wondered if I somehow made a mistake. I've never had a problem flashing any other phone, and I don't know where to go from here.
There may be a different way but i fixed that problem by using TWRP which i got in a thread from in the development section. It flashed with no problems. Im not sure what the issue but try a different custom recovery.

Had this issue also. Flashing from twrp did the trick. So once rooted, twrp installs through goo manager, which is here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0up.goomanager
Read up on the twrp thread in android original development. The touch pad is a little dodgy, but it's workable.

Here's a flashable CWM from source:

This may help a bit. I found this somewhere on the web but I can't seem to find it again.
I have a rooted razr maxx hd, and I received an upgrade notification last week. I used OTA rootkeeper to secure my root, and then upgraded to the latest OS. Once it upgraded, I used OTA rootkeeper to reinstate root.
I have had nothing but problems with the latest update. My phone freezes at least twice a day.
What can I do to fix this?

Unless you want to fast boot and lose root, I would install safestrap and flash a new rom

But how can I install a new ROM when I have the latest OS, which doesn't have root. Can I install safestrap on the latest OS and still go back to the previous OS? Or do I need to fastboot back to the old rom unrooted, then install safestrap, then install a rooted rom?

You said you reinstated root no? Update your super su binaries then install safestrap app and recovery. You can't go back to anything on the latest ota. what I'm suggesting is starting over with a fresh install of a new rom or a stock rom using safestrap. Your original install would remain untouched.

I tried to use Safestrap and tried two different roms, but they failed to install. Now my phone won't restart at all, seems bricked. What can I do?
I have tried using safe strap with multiple roms. One of them installed but wouldn't recognize my sd card. Another just made my phone freeze.
The one I really want to install is is just 4.1.1 with root, but every version of that I've tried to install immediately fails. Don't know if I'm just finding flawed files, or if it's something I'm doing.
What are my options at this point?

4.1.1 is not a rom, it is an ota... Im not sure what you are trying to do, but if you are on 4.1.2 OTA and kept root(restored root) and have safestrap installed you are good. There is no way to go back or downgrade to ICS with this latest OTA(4.1.2) yet. Once you are in safestrap I would create a back up of you stock slot, just hit boot options and make sure stock Rom is highlighted(it will also say Rom Slot: stock in red on top). Once that is done create a rom slot by going through boot options, rom-slot-1 and choose the size partition you want and then create rom slot. You can then restore the back up of stock slot you made before, just make sure you are on rom slot 1. Then wipe cache/dalvik/system/data, which are the top 4 options. Now you can install any rom which should be on your external sd card. There are some that are not daily drivers yet with things that are broken, but there are also fully functional ones. There are a couple other forums which have several roms that are only posted on those respective forums. You just have to look around.

I have done all of the above. I have 4.1.2 and saved and restored root. I have also installed safestrap. The problem I'm having is that every ROM I've tried to install is flawed (e.g. doesn't recognize my SD card, won't boot past splash screen). I really just want to go back to 4.1.1 OTA + root, which I found in the XDA development folder. But when I try to load it in safestrap using one of the rom slots, I just get an error. I've tried multiple versions, same result.
Is there anything I can do?

Like I said 4.1.1 is not a rom, it is a firmware and the file you are trying to install is a firmware upgrade. That post was for the jb leak, so you can download it when on ICS and upgrade to it while keeping root. To keep root you follow the steps in that post. Since you are rooted and on 4.1.2 now, you cannot go back to 4.1.1 on your stock slot. And there is no reason to try to flash a rom slot with a firmware upgrade because it will not work. So your phones main firmware is now 4.1.2 which can not be changed back to 4.1.1. If you need to sbf you will have to use the sbf file for 4.1.2 and that will restore your phone to stock 4.1.2 only and you will loose root for good. Or at least until there is a way to root on this latest ota which may not be for a while.
If you want a rom, it will say [Rom] in that title. Batakang, Inflicted HD and wWidow HD which are posted on this forum all work with no problems. Most of the others have either mounting(sd card), camera or something not working. And like I said there are some more out there on other forums that are fully functional as well, search... All of these roms are based off either ICS, or JB 4.1.1 and will work in safestrap on any rom slot except stock even though you have 4.1.2 on stock slot. Now if you are saying that even flashing roms which are listed as fully functional gives you an error then you are either doing something wrong, or have done something wrong when rooting.
Also if you created any rom slots, just delete them so you can start over. Create rom slot 1 and restore your back up of stock slot to it and wipe all 4 i listed above before installing the rom.

I'm on ota 4.1.2 + root with no problem at all, no longer lag with the stock launcher also.
At first the ota upgrade from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 was failed, so i used the utility 1.1 to go back to stock 4.0.4, root, install voodoo ota, temp unroot, upgrade, restore root..
Hope it helps

You need to update to 4.1.2 using that factory fastboot files and then root again. I did the same and it made a noticeable difference in how my phone ran. I'll get you the windows link to the files. If you run Linux I'll have to upload what I've put together. Its based on mattlgroff HD utility but updates you to 4.1.2 and roots it.
Link for fastboot files. Install rsdlite and the moto drivers if in windows.

Do the files in that link include a fastboot that is ALREADY rooted? If not, how do I go about rooting once I install?

I followed your directions precisely, but once I used the fastboot files, the phone was NO LONGER rooted. How do I get root on 4.1.2? Your post gave the impression that if I installed the files you included, the phone should immediately be rooted.

did you figure it out?
Recently flashed Slimbean 4.3 built 1.
After that I observed that I lost my ROOT.
Then I went to download mode and tried to ROOT, but that failed and displays a problem with Supersu.
I tried to figure out, but haven't got any solution.
Need help.

The same thing happened to me. I flashed Mokee 4.3 , but I just found carbon 4.3 for my gs3. flashed that on my phone, now I wanted to put carbon on my GT-P5113. No Root, tried using Odin to root my tab with the same file I auto rooted my tab with. It looks like it works. cycles through just like It should. on boot up, it says updating apps 1 of 112... until 112 of 112... then it boots up normally. Go to unlock screen, open Joey Krim Root Checker. No root access. It's just strange... It's like I can't Root it again, and I can't install TWRP or CM Recovery.

*awesome title here*
Most ROM have a opting in the developers options . to get root access all you have to do is select apps and ADB
Issue Solved:
I tried to read about supersu little bit on forum and found that
Supersu.zip v1.60 is working fine on many custom Roms running 4.3
*So I download that zip file.
*Went to recovery
*Wiped data,cache and dalvik cache
*Installed that zip file of supersu and reebooted
After reboot I opened the supersu app and all was working fine.
Thanks !!

Hi there to all and a happy weekend.
I am having Problems upgrading my galaxy tab 2 10.1 from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 and maintaing root and superSU binary.
I have CF-Auto-Root-espresso10wifi-espresso10wifixx-gtp5110 and philz_touch_6.57.8-p5110 with blackhawk-next-kernel-2.2-p51xxx installed under 4.1.1 and all works fine.
Then when I flash 4.2.2 via odin and wait untill all is finished and then go through the steps of rooting again starting with CF-Auto-Root-espresso10wifi-espresso10wifixx-gtp5110 and then philz_touch_6.57.8-p5110, waiting until all is finished upon system restart when all is loaded and I try to open superSU it tells there is no binary data.
I have repeated this process several times today to see if it is a bad flash and even redownloaded all relevant files again and stillvthe same message displays.
I have susequently revertedback to 4.1.1 until I can resolve this.
If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it

This should be in the Q&A Troubleshooting thread, next time, I ran into a similar issue a long time ago with 4.3 and it turned out to be philz recovery switch to CWM 6012 and it solved the problem.
Pp.
I would recomand using latest twrp as recovery. Also jellybean from
tuxafgmur is the best choice if you like a stock rom.
Otherwise I would recommand SlimKat from Android-Andi.

Flash the latest TWRP recovery (2.8.0.1) via ODIN and then the most up to date SlimKat 4.4.4 weekly (8.8) via TWRP. It is like getting a new tablet, once you get away from stock rom! Just do it, enjoy!!
installing su u must be internet connected
then system downloads the binary part
