Disclaimer: I am NOT responsible if you brick your device!
Normally this doesn't happen, but you can never be sure.
This tool is a great help for everybody willing to root his/her Archos 50 Platinum device, without need of difficult instructions.
It's a small script I made that can:
install CWM Recovery
root your device
install SuperSU
install Busybox
install Terminal Emulator
remove ARCHOS bloatware
ADB, Fastboot, the Busybox and SU-package, the Terminal apk and the recovery image are all included in the package.
Feedback and suggestions are always welcome!
Thanks to:
Linus Yang for the BusyBox binary
jazzan0va for the root instructions and files
jackpalfor the Terminal application

Just tested it on my AP50 (running the latest update 20130604.164753), there were some artifacts when I opened the Android's interface but they are gone (for now).
The flickering of the CMW interface is tremendously annoying but I guess it's better than nothing.
After I installed CMW and tried to reboot, it suggested to do something that would install CMW in recovery permanently or something, I chose "no". Anyone care to explain? edit: Seems like after the reboot, CWM disappeared.

AP53 Doubt...

Hey how's your AP50 going, I have a AP53 (My wife has a AP53, gave it to her...) and for what I know that option already appeared once in my G615 when I installed a recovery without being the stock one or the Geno one... Anyway in the first time I've done the same thing, in the second I choose the permanent option... and... the same thing... didn't noted any change from to another... But as I've said, it was in G615 (Huawei) not AP...
Resuming I'm thinking to do the root, this root, in my wife's phone... but I'm a little afraid with the result or consequences from that process, and from what I know of a few people tried it... And only one (you) posted the results :good:
Well must say that the phone for it´s price its really, but really really good!!! Love to "play" with it when I want a 5'3 inch mini LCD, my wife already asked me if I wanted the damned phablet LOLOL

Thanks by this GREAT HELP to the owners of this smartphone with a little community... if it can be called as one LOL
But what is really important is its liability, and I'm willing to try this method in a AP53... Do you think it will work? Of course I know its a big risk...
But I don't know anyone that tried that in a Platinum 5.3"...
If anyone did it please give the feedback from it... :good:

Black nebur, you have to choose 'yes' if CWM asks you to install it permanently, otherwise it will be overwritten with the default recovery after a reboot...
The tool should normally work on the AP53, and I don't think there's a big risk involved.

Hey, thanks by your fast answer, gonna try it then, and now that you say, in fact after that I think, not 100% sure, the changed recovery booted always flawlessly, but has I don't have anymore the need of using it (already got used to the Chinese one from Geno... LOL) ...
I'll give the feedback when done. :fingers-crossed:

OK....what a few months its been...sorry guys been out of commission...car wreck...
Had to start over...so here we go..
First...You must be rooted...if not google it..
install your favorite root file explorer
install your favorite term emulator
ok got that...now the good stuff..
download http://dl.dropbox.com/u/56403887/L45C_CWM_Recovery-v6.0.1.2.zip
or http://dl.dropbox.com/u/56403887/L45C_CWM_Recovery-v5.0.28.zip
this is the cwm recovery 6.0.1.2 compiled from source by me...it is only for the L45C...Cant stress that enough...had to make changes to graphics from source to get it to work...
also the v5.0.28 recovery because as of now v6.0.1.2 has no sdcard partioning support because it is new.
you can choose which you like best...
put on root of your sdcard ...
make sure the file name is recovery.img
now download http://dl.dropbox.com/u/56403887/flash_image.zip
this is the flash_image file to to flash the recovery..
unzip it should have the name flash_image
use root explorer to copy the file to /system/bin
open term emulator get su rights and cd to /system/bin and type chmod 0755 flash_image
now cd back to /
still with su rights type flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
if no output... wahoo.... if you get error start over
dont reboot yet...
go to playstore and download a app called Quick Boot its free and handy you want have to hold buttons to reboot into recovery..
ok...now the moment of truth run quick boot and choose recovery...you should get a su ask from superuser grant it....phone should reboot into cwm recovery...if it did... wahoo... you now have cwm
keymap is fixed and is like this.... search button to select.....return button to return..home button to scroll..
way better than before,,,to me any way...
still will get error about bad boot message but i will fix later it don't affect anything..

Hey ICE.....Is it suitable for Optimus Net P690 in India.....?????
Does this support custom themes?
p690f can't get qtadb to link phone/PC
Hi
I am stumped, as a complete novice to smart phone/linux.
At present my status is:
1. Phone is rooted, so I was able to get this done from my PC.
2. Now I have copied the recovery.img & flash.img to SD card.
3. I have Terminal emulator on phone &/or Sd card.
4. When in USB storage is activated & connected to PC, I can see all the files but on terminal emulator.
5. I have Qtabd on my PC but it will not 'see' my phone either in USB storage activated or not activated or in debug mode.
6. When debug mode activated, USB storage is deactivated. Seems both not able to be on.
7. In one of the XDA threads there was mention of 'demounting' the sd card so have also tried that in same combinations of SD/ debug.
I have been trying to sort this out on another forum but seems there is more info available on here.
I am having a huge problem tying to get Recovery working direct on the phone, mainly due to my inexperience on these devices, I am very happy to learn if pointed in right direction. Of course my concern also is not to brick the phone!!
Any assistance or links to suitable areas appreciated.
Whoops seems I posted on wrong thread, thought it was the similar one for P690, applogies.
WaHooo
I managed to finally get recovery activated using the terminal emulator on the SMALL screen of my phone!!
However I would still very much appreciate sorting out Qtadb connection as I am sure sometime in the future I will need to do some additions/deletions to my p690.
So, any info etc will be appreciated.
For any other Newbies who may see this,
1. To copy from a browser text long touch at start/end of text, then drag to high light.
2. To copy, touch highlighted area, you should get a message 'copied to clipboard'. To cancel, if you make a mistake like I made MANY touch some where else on screen.
3. With Terminal emulator started, (P690), after entering 'su' tap touch screen to bring up keyboard and select 'return/enter key'. This gives you Super User.
Long touch screen brings up menu withe 'paste',select.
4. To toggle back to browser, to same screen you were working on, hold down second key on bottom. This will bring up all the recent icons for what you were working on, select 'browser'. Continue copy line by line.
5. To toggle back to emulator, long press 2nd from left key & select emulator.
Hope this assists someone.
The p690 and this phone are not the same. This phone is from Net 10, idk about the p690, but this phone is. This one is also cdma. I think the p690 is gsm. They are NOT cross compatible. I'd brick my phone if I used a p690 rom.

Update please
Hi there. Been crack flashing my phone for a while and finally got my wife's phone rooted today.
Just wondering if anyone has had any luck flashing a custom recovery yet (eg CWM or Amon Ra)? If so, please post a guide. As I have been unable to find anything using my Google-fu.
Also, all your links were removed. So other than hinting at a solution. This thread is zero help.
Thanks in Advance!
My Phone: HTC Evo 4G (flashed to Cricket)
Wife's Phone: LG Optimus (LGL45C)
I have a question regarding etc..... Does your rom include a tun.ko file and if not do you know of anyone or anyway to run openvpn/droidvpn or just changeing kernels would be nice...
I can't root.
I have an L45C with 2.3.4 on it and it just won't root. I have tried: Gingerbreak, z4root, and unlock root, none of them worked. I tried gingerbreak a few times at day, and all night as I slept, but my phone just isn't rooting!
If any of you have gotten root please do tell me how.
no updates yet?
Can someone please post a link to this ROM? I had it but can't find ir and I need it bad, phone is semi-bricked and I have a corrupt backup. PLEASE!!

ROM/Recovery LGL45C
What are the results of flashing this recovery? Was it successful to flash as I have a backup for the phone that I have made thankfully.
results are great. For what little ROM development, this is the best we have. Its just a ClockworkMod recovery image and then a rooted ROM. I'm still using it to this day and with all the apps and tweaks I've added, this phone rocks!!
My only complaint is I'm running out of internal space so I need to figure something out with that. Maybe I will try to re-partition my card to ext4 and try to increase internal memory by like 100mb. Apps2SD only goes so far sadly. I'm also going to try to put Team Win recovery on after I make sufficient backups. Let me know if I can help.

I was able to install the CWM Recovery to the phone just fine. Realized what I was doing incorrectly. Now to test the only ROM's that I know of that are available for the Q from Area51. Are there anymore ROM's being developed. The L45C is not a bad phone, just needs more lightweight ROM's to work with it.

careful. font installer causing boot loops now.

Just a warning to everyone. For some reason, "Font Installer" is causing boot loops now. It killed my tablet. Thankfully, best buy exchanged it cause it overheated afterwards. But, loop on new infinity too. Don't know what's causing it. I recovered with soft brick method. But first tablet couldn't be recovered.

UPDATE:
from Dev.
If your font changes are causing bootloops, chances are that you are overwriting the wrong fonts. Please open the Font Installer and click Menu > Preferences > Select Fonts.
If you’re running Android 4.0 ICS, make sure Roboto-regular.ttf is selected
If you’re running Android 3.X or earlier, make sure DroidSans.ttf is selected
If you’re running MIUI, make sure Arial.ttf is selected
tried this morning and works.

I can personally vouch that this happens. I'm was caught by this exact same problem. I too was able to return it. Now, I've been scared straight. No rooting, no unlocking, no nothing unusual. Fortunately, the Infinity does all that I want it to do. So, I'll have to wait a while, until my nerves calm down before I venture once again into the wonderful world of hacking.
Ironically, I just got the update for 4.2 yesterday. So, I don't really need to poke around where I shouldn't.:crying:
You guys shouldn't be messing around with your toys if such a small issue cause you to return them. There's always a way to fix things. Backups are important and so is having a copy of the latest firmware or favorite ROM in hand in case of emergency. I've had the font issue also, not a big deal. Maybe you should tinker with a older device to get some knowledge first before you brick your Infinity

What font did you attempt to install? Did the issue continue when you followed the aforementioned response from us?
Before attempting any customization, we recommend that users have a recent nandroid backup in case anything goes wrong. There are always ways to fix these issues, there should be no need to return your device.
Finally, I strongly encourage you to contact us with any questions or when you run into any problems, so that we can help you out Feel free to post our responses to the XDA community if needed.

I agree if such small issues cause you to return your tablet then I wouldn't be messing around with it to much. Should also always have backups or a custom/stock ROM ready to flash if something goes wrong.

Hello,
I have root and a locked bootloader on my Droid Razr Maxx HD so as far as I know with my n00b knowledge, I cannot make a nandroid backup. I want to install a font and I know nothing should go wrong but is there anyway I can be sure font installer works with my phone? or do i just need to be sure to select the correct fonts to change?
Thanks for the help.
I have an iball Andi 4.5z jelly bean 4.2.2 OS with root access but my phone is not rebooting after installing font installer. I even can't remount system directory to read/write in command prompt. I've browsed many forums for the solution but can't find any and the ADB command line given in other forums is not working so plz help. Solutions needed urgently. Thank you

I'm running the 4.3.1 CM 10.2 ROM for LG Phoenix (p505). Anything other than Clocktopia, AndroidClock, AndroidClock_Highlight, and AndroidClock_Solid will brick my device. This is extremely frustrating as I have restored my phone 5 times because this results in a brick.
Yes, You have to be careful while using ROM tools
I had selected all fonts in preferences and it caused a bootloop in my ZTE N799D.
I had to flash stock ROM to make my phone work again.
Great tool but needs to be handled carefully.
@Master Ramy
I have an older but new Xperia GO running ICS rooted and with CWM and i tried your apk replacing Roboto-Bold.ttf Roboto-Regular.ttf SoMABold.ttf SoMARegular.ttf => Boot Loop
The same with DroisSans.ttf and DroidSans-Bold.tff => Boot Loop again
Please what are the fonts to select for replace to reach the goal wished ? :crying:

Not Bad for 6.5k($120), is it?
U guys should first check if its already unrooted . Cause the funbook come pre unrooted.
If not u can try a software called unroot me. It worked for my Funbook alpha.

hey, a big welcome shivam. you will love the people around here.
congrats on buying your first tablet.
i've heard that huawei cards do work on this one(mine is d-link so no cake for me).
but somehow, if we gain root. then most of the things will work in it.(things like bluetooth, gamepads)
all is not lost people, keep your hopes, and smiles up.

Hi ,
Can the developers please mention which all methods have been tried and resulted in failure or bricking of the device. This may help other people to avoid those chances. Also has any one tried installing sparkyroot.apk . infinity has the same config as xtab.
Rooting
Here is the description of different methods i tried on it.
unlockroot: recognizes the device, flashes its name. but after "trying to get shell root permissions", it just returns to normal.
superoneclick: freezes on step 4 "failed to set prot mask"
Sparkyroot: doesnt even starts its process "SU binary not installed"
maybe the long way (the one used to get root permissions on pre-froyo era) through ADB may work here after some modifications, of course, but have no experience using adb ))
did you guys try any other?
First i would like to say,i dont own this fun book tab...Im a proud owner of galaxy note...
Ok that being said,to gain root all you must need to do is push susperuser.apk to/system/app and its binary "su" to /system/bin to gain root...now you guys need to find a way to do this...if anybody knows to use adb you can try any exploit...sorry if you guys already know it

Or if you device runs android 4(ICS) you can try to put a cwm zip containing the required files in your external sd,boot ibto recovery and select apply update from external sdcard and select the zip.It might work in a easy way....Because afaik ics allows to install zips from external sd which are test signed...
Note1:The zip must be named update.zip to work.create the zip then sign it and pls dont edit anything after signing as it may break the signature
Note2:if you dono to enter recovery you can try "adb reboot recovery" command in adb(without quotes)

hey, a big welcome shivam. you will love the people around here.
congrats on buying your first tablet.
i've heard that huawei cards do work on this one(mine is d-link so no cake for me).
but somehow, if we gain root. then most of the things will work in it.(things like bluetooth, gamepads)
all is not lost people, keep your hopes, and smiles up.

@ creagrox, thanks for welcome note,
If I can use 3G dongle, definitely, I am interested in rooting.
I think there is no bluetooth in this funbook.

Successful Root Method for the Pantech Flex P8010

This guide assumes that you are on a stock Pantech Flex P8010 running either ICS (v4.0.4). or the updated JB (v4.1.2) Please note that rooting a ICS phone has been known to cause issues when trying to run the over the air update. If you have already rooted and are looking for a way to update to JellyBean please skip to the section on updating, if this isn't you keep reading.
So at this point you have decided to continue. You shouldn't run into any issues if you follow the directions and you shouldn't mess your phone up even if root doesn't take. However, in the spirit of covering ones back side....
I am not responsible for anything that goes wrong.
Jelly Bean 4.1.2 or ICS 4.0.4
This method was found by LuneBear and has not been tested by myself so I cannot personally verify its effectiveness. I did check and it seems to work with both ICS and JB but your mileage may vary. You will need to download SRSroot and install it on a Windows machine.
SRS ROOT
SRS Homepage
Make sure that USB debugging is enabled on your phone. Connect your phone via USB and run the program. Select the button for all root methods. Then you will need to select the Legolas exploit. Once everything is done (may take some time) just reboot the phone and you should be good to go.
Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 ONLY
Windows Option
This method has been tried on a number of Windows versions and some work some don't so your mileage may very. This method uses Bin4ry's Root method and was orgnially discovered by aaki_rocker and is WAY LESS COMPLICATED. However please note that some users have had issues using this method with Bin4ry's latest version of the root script. It is recommended that you download an older version if you run into any issues or the root doesn't take.
First lets get some drivers on your Windows box. To do this you will need to download the Pantech PC Suite and install it.
http://c724062.r62.cf2.rackcdn.com/PantechPCSuite_1.1.1.3437.exe
Next you will need to download and extract Bin4ry's root script.
http://ul.to/z7krermj
Once you have these two files you will need to plug your phone into the PC via USB and enable the USB type as Data Mode.
Next run the Bin4ry's script and follow the directions when in doubt about what to choose select the simplest option in all cases.
If everything goes well you will have a nicely rooted phone.
Linux Option
This is not a point and click root and is not for the faint of heart. This method of rooting is based off of Bin4ry's root for ICS/JB. Changes have been made to the srcipt to allow it to work with the Flex please follow the steps below and you will have root in just a few minutes. It will probably take you longer to download the files you need than to actually root the phone.
This method has been performed successfully using Ubuntu 12.10 64bit it may work with other versions of linux but it will not work with Windows due to the driver issues and the fact that I didn't alter the windows batch file, in fact I removed any windows related files from Bin4ry's original package.
First you will need to set up the linux machine if you don't already have it. This can be done in one of a few ways you can run a live copy using a Live CD/USB boot (this will not install linux on your computer unless you tell it to) or you can install it in the standard manner or using WUBI, the third option us setting up linux in a virtual machine. If you don't know how to do this google it, there is a wealth of information out there on these subjects and probably some you can even understand without a degree in astro-physics.
Second you will need to set your phone up so that USB debug mode is turned on [settings>developer options]. Make sure you phone isnt plugged into the USB or it won't let you change the setting.
Now plug your phone into to the (linux) computer with the USB. Next you will need to set the USB computer connection type to Media Device(MTP)
In order for the computer to communicate with the phone we will need to install Android Debug Bridge (ADB) and create a couple of files.
These files will basically trick the computer into thinking it has actual drivers for the phone.
Open a terminal window, and enter the following (this will install ADB):
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb
Once this is done enter the following
sudo gedit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-android.rules
Gedit will open at this point copy the the following into it and then click save and close the window.
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="10a9:6055", MODE="0666"
In the terminal window enter this (yeah I know it looks the same just go with it)
sudo gedit /lib/udev/rules.d/70-android.rules
After the window opens paste the same line of code into the file that you did in the previous files, save and close.
Test your connection by issuing the following command in the terminal window:
adb devices
Should see something similar to:
OSCAR01111112010204 device
Your adb is now recognizing your phone and you can now move on to the next step if you are not getting this don't even bother moving to the next step it wont work. If you don't see this check your settings and go again.
Ok so you are now ready to actually root the phone. The first thing your going to need to do is download my modified Bin4ry script. See the attached file.
After you have it downloaded you will need to extract it you can do this by opening the file manager (click on the home folder icon) and going to download. Find the file called Root_Flex.zip. Right click on it and select EXTRACT HERE. After its done extracting you should see a directory called Root_Flex. In a terminal windows enter the following:
cd Downloads/Root_Flex
Your prompt should now look something like
[email protected]_name~/Downloads/Root_Flex$
From here just enter the command:
bash RunMeFlex.sh
At this point you should see a bunch of junk come up and a menu asking which way you want to try to root. Type 1 and press enter. It will give you 3 errors, ignore them. It should copy a bunch of files and ask you to press restore on your phone, do it. It should ask you to press Enter to reboot the phone, do so and the phone will reboot. It should be waiting on you to press enter again dont press enter until the phone is completely rebooted and for good measure give it an extra few seconds. The script should finish and the phone will reboot again this time you should see a little box with an update appear on the phone. At this point you should be rooted. If not try the script again.
I hope this helps out a lot of folks out there. Let me know if I need to change anything in this How to or if I made any mistakes along the way.
Updating If you're already rooted
So you rooted your phone and now you want JellyBean but when you run the update you get the dead droid image and the update fails OR you live in an area that isn't covered by AT&T and you want the update, what do you do? Well thanks to some hard work by Attn1 we have a solution and its pretty simple. First off you will need to have CWM running on the phone. Now there are a few ways to go about this but the method I used was here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2133857
You only need to go as far as getting CWM up an running on the phone you do not need to install it as the the update by Attn1 will take care of a full install of a better version. You will need to have a copy of Fastboot.exe and some img files. Below is a rar file that has all the necessary files to get CWM running (not installed) on the phone using windows (sorry I don't have the linux files for this one). Just unpack them into a convienent folder somewhere and follow the instructions on the link above.
http://tinyurl.com/oa2p48f
I recommend using the boot_external.img but if you do not have an external SD card and only have the internal storage just use boot_internal.img instead. This method relys on you being able to get into fast boot. If you do not have access to fastboot for what ever reason I suggest you jump ahead in the thread and read Attn1 methods for installing CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2008888&page=44
Next get the update files from this link (second post)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2008888&page=47
Once you have all the files downloaded and copied everything to the appropriate SD cards on your phone your ready to go. If you don't know how to do this don't even think about anything else till you learn this. After this is all done follow the directions below (copied from Attn1's post)
Procedure if you ARE NOT running baseband JYUS06032013 (ICS Basebands) :
boot ICS CWM
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-FIRMWARE.zip from CWM
format system in CWM (will NOT wipe data, but makes sure old rom does not flash back stock recovery)
restart start recovery/adb reboot recovery (JB CWM is installed - do not try to fastboot boot ICS CWM)
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-ROM.zip from CWM.
reboot
Procedure if you ARE running baseband JYUS06032013 (JB Baseband) :
get root (Instructions HERE - use GANDALF)
install CWM (Instructions HERE)
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-FIRMWARE.zip from CWM
format system in CWM (will NOT wipe data, but makes sure old rom does not flash back stock recovery)
reboot to CWM
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-ROM.zip from CWM.
reboot
This ROM is Pantech stock with no mods other than CWM installation protection and all stock permissions and symlinks carefully maintained and consistent with the product of a successful OTA.
The firmware is also stock, with the exception of the open aboot allowing fastboot boot <bootimage>, and installation of JB CWM with nothing else added or changed. It runs well with nothing broken. You MUST be on JB firmware (below) to run it properly.
You can let the new CWM root it if you like when you exit - it will prompt you. It will also prompt you to disable CWM on reboot make sure this gets disabled or the phone will keep booting to CWM rather than the ROM.

md5: 17c0e611ab6dfbca230571c1e40f3d14 FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-ROM.zip
Make sure you check the md5sum on the files before you flash them if there wrong download them again this is vital.
If you need a program to check md5sums copy this .exe file to your c:\windows\system\ and run it from the command line.

Acutally this assumes you are on a completely fresh install and did not have adb installed through the platform tools if that is the case everything I typed up will work. However you are correct too. Let me know if you think I should go ahead and rework the stuff to be a little more universal if so please PM me an update of the commands.
your right my apologies but one thing i noticed that i would like to say idk if its my experiance or universal after successfully rooting the flex the lockscreen fails to resize itself leaving a black space where the onscreen dock is usualy located no big issue though and the rooting was easy and painless once adb was set up correctly 100000+ points thanks so much
Good job guys. Respect! I have a Pantech Flex, which is an awesome device with the same specs (things that matter to me) as S3, but without big name. I like Pantech Flex because it's size is much better for me than.
The only thing now is to create a ROM! Is it difficult to make a pure Android ROM? Nothing additional, just a pure Android like in Nexus?
Again, thank you guys for your dedication! I'll definitely donate as soon as I have Jelly Bean loaded on my Pantech Flex!
Thanks, this worked great. I am gonna start on a ROM. Hope I don't get bricked.

lol right now we need knowledge donations unfourtunatly we cannot start working on roms till we have a custom recovery ported over either team win or clockworks mod recovery this will take a little bit of time and knowledge and to answer your question about the stock nexus rom your talking along the terms of a cynaogen mod port? or akop port looking into it i would say untill we have mapped the bootloader we wouldnt know how diffcult it would be because the simlinks maybe difcult for a phone that has not yet caught fire in the dev world
i wish i had the time to do a recovery myself and get cwm working but with my family and my fulltime job i barely get any time. Im going to spend all my time on this amazing little phone to do what i can. props to the root method it worked flawlessly!!!

If I get some time I will start looking into a custom CWM and all that junk I have a contact that should be a pretty good help in this just have to find the time to do it.
Yeah after coming from the LG Nitro HD I was surprised at how easy this was to root.
If you want to get together on gtalk we can work on this together. Right now I'm in the process of getting a ROM dump so we can recover our phones from stock images if we happen to mess them up, which I'm sure we will, but that's the best part! Lol.
I can smell CM9 and CM10 calling to this phone!!!

[Q] FileMate Clear 7" T720 tablet

Does anyone know if Z4Root will work on this tablet? Thanks!
I've been looking for one for 3 days now, I tryed onclickroot and z4root or something like that,, cant find anything Anyone please help!!
I'm still waiting for my tablet to be delivered...I'm gonna try SuperOneClick (crosses fingers)
I got one of these for my daughter for xmas. I spent a few days trying to root it with no luck. I'm not intimately familiar with android (some unix experience), but I tried all the options I could find for rooting Allwinner a10 devices. At first I ran into problems with adb unable to recognize the device for most one-click methods. I downloaded the android tools and was able to connect with the included adb. After studying the scripts, they all use the "adb root" command to gain root access on the device and copy the necessary files. Unfortunately, this command fails using adb from the tools. At first I thought this was due to my adb version, but after doing some research I think it is actually due to the device kernel. I believe it requires reflashing or some exploit to be able to gain root. I was able to install root explorer and I can browse all the necessary directories but I can't modify or copy the necessary files into them. Busybox told me there was an older version installed, but wouldn't let me install a newer version (again I think due to the permissions). Also, superuser would say it installed but the su binary did not show up on the bin directory. As the necessary directories are all owned by root, I couldn't figure out a way to modify the permissions...
I wound up returning the FileMate and got a Lenovo IdeaTab. Got that rooted in no time.
sorry i never saw this post i've bought 2 of these and i rooted them,
i wish i could get a better build for them though, too many app crashes and the internet connectivity sucks
i used a method by Bin4ry called root with restore, v17 worked any ways i have the zip if you would like it

FileMate Clear T720
Thank you very much for being the only person ever to have posted in regards to this tablet. I just got mine for christmas and have been trying to get it rooted. I've tried a lot of those one-click methods, and I've even tried this Bin4ary method. but it just hangs up on "daemon started sucessfully*"
Can you please direct me to the filemate drivers (if needed)
also, I have usb debugging endable, allowing 3rd party (not secure) files enabled. and pulling my hair out (enabled).
Thanks again.
Also, I'm running windows 7 and 8, (((maybe i should try win7))) hmm. i'll get back to you on that. Anyhow, any advice would be greatly appreciated, since returning it doesn't sound very fun.

I laughed so hard. ok your going to have to install drivers by force,
first off do you happen to have android sdk installed? if you don't there is another way but its going to sound weird,
if you do have the android SDK installed:
1. go to your computer manager (by opening explorer, right click on the "computer" group on the left column and select manager)
2. look for any unrecognized item that appears, ( it will most likely be labeled "Clear" with a faded icon and a "?" sign on top
3. right click and choose "Update drivers", it will give you options, choose "Browse my computer for driver software", another option screen will show,
4. at the bottom of the window there will be an option that says "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
5. on the screen that appears there should be an option that says "ADB Interface", choose this
6. choose "Google, Inc.">"ADB Testing Interface version x.x.x.x" (I chose version 2.1.0.0)
that should do it next time you plug in the tablet try running ddms or open the cmd and type in "adb devices" (assuming you have adb installed) and it should show.
if this helps just hit the thanks button
[edit] I am running windows 8 btw [/edit]
ADB interface doesn't show up
Thank you very much for getting me farther, however I dont see ADB interface. I'm looking into it right now. I just re-installed the sdk drivers and will keep at it.
BTW, is it even worth doing this? the main reason I want to do it, is so i can connect my ps3 remote via bluetooth, and possibly a little overclocking. Have you had any luck OC it?
Thanks again Much appreciated:good:

open up SDK manager and go to Extras>"Google USB Drivers"
also install everything in the "Android 4.0 (API 14)" section, I have other options installed if this still doesn't work.
its worth it just for the extra stuff that root comes with like titanium backup, but you cant over clock, if you go any higher than 1200 MHz it will lock up and you have to force it to reset.

As far as being unable to update binaries, try to find a custom recovery and install. From there, you can inject them via su-binary update.zip and bam!

That is the link for the Kingo site. The first time I saw it on here there was some question about whether it was safe becase it is not open source and used a Chinese SuperSu app. I felt safe using it on a tablet because I do no banking on it or anything, but the newest posts I have seen are that Kingo is safe. Hope that helps. And if you know where to find a custom recovery that will work with this app please let me know.
