[Q]OC method by cute_prince on Class 4 SD? - HTC Pico (Explorer)

Hi mates,
I have a Toshiba 4GB Class 4 SD card and i want to know how would it performance with the new oc method by cute_prince?
Will the sd die somehow cause its class 4, or i can partition it and have no problems?
I wanna use Aries kernel with cm10.1 b5 cause its freakin' smooth.

Fix for slow SD card speed with HTC's Froyo Kernel

There have been quite a few complaints about slow SD card speeds with Froyo/Sense ROMs (e.g. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778748).
I've looked into the problem and discovered that the poor performance is due to HTC reducing the readahead settings in their kernel.
I've attached a prebuilt kernel (as a flashable zip using Koush's AnyKernel) and a kernel source patch that fix this. Let me know how you get on
EDIT: if you prefer Richardtrip's kernel to the stock one, use the update zip here, or v5 or later of his kernel, instead of kernel_2.6.32-frankoid.zip
To see whether your kernel needs the fix you need to run a command with your phone plugged in to your computer. On Linux and OS X you need to include quotes, like this:
Code:
adb shell 'cat /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb'
If you are using Windows don't include the quotes - run this:
Code:
adb shell cat /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb
If it returns 4 then you need the fix. If it returns 128 you don't need it.
If you are a developer and you'd like to incorporate this fix into your ROM without having to change the kernel see this post for instructions on how to edit init.rc to change the readahead setting.

Yes, this is only for Sense, but I haven't had any problem with SD card speeds on non-Sense ROMs.
Will flashing this remove OC? I'm running Richards kernel and not stock. Will your zip file overwrite?

I'm not sure, I don't overclock myself. I have turned off perflock in this kernel though so it might work.
You could always give it a try and restore a nandroid backup if you lose OC.
The best thing in the long run would probably be to ask Richard to apply the patch to his kernel.
Don't works on rcmixhd v10. I flash it and not reboot well

Want to know this as well, but if you've fixed the problem my hat off to you sir! It really annoys me.
Nice, gonna check it out. Do you have any statistics?
*edit, this has already been pushed upstream to .35+ kernels.

RCmixHD is the rom port from the desire HD isn't it?
I installed it on a Telus HTC Desire SLCD with LeeDroid 2.2d and tested it on a class 10 card with SD Speed Card Test..My write speed remained at the 2MB/s it showed before (same on a Class 6 and Class 2 card) but the read speed jumped to 13MB/s.
Any thoughts why the write speed didn't show the same increase as read?
Good start I love the increased read speed..it would be nice to see a similar increase in writing..
Good work
Is the speed jump only in storage mode?
Wow many great thanks !!!
Before:
Write 4 mb/s
Read 6 mb/s
After:
Write 4 mb/s
Read 13 mb/s
On my PC i have a read speed around 19 mb/s, but 13 mb/s is fabulous enough, more write speed would be nice, but i 4 mb/s is ok for the moment..
Im using this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
so this should work on every Froyo Sense ROM
PS: the gallery is now so f*** fast this is great ;-)
Anyone with Pays ROM tried this yet? Wondering if its needed with the latest Pays ROM...
Hello frankoid , could you make us version for Sense HD roms, as lots of files there are puted on SD, this would make entire rom much faster!

No, close to stock, only the POWERSAVING MODPACK ..
This kernel certainly will replace Richard's. Just tried it minutes ago. In the SetCPU, the max speed goes back to 998 Mhz instead of Richard's 1330 Mhz.

I'm using my own ROM based on RUU_Bravo_Froy2_UK_2.14.207.1. This kernel should work on most Froyo/Sense ROMs that use the stock kernel. If your Sense ROM uses a custom kernel ask the ROM's developer to apply this patch. This patch is not necessary for non-Sense ROMs.

Which .35 kernel? I think that the change to reduce the readahead never made it into the Cyanogen & Teamdesire etc. kernels, so this patch to increase the readahead again isn't necessary for them.

Hi there mate,i have a class 4 sd card too, you can use jarvis, pandora kernels, but i recommend you aries kernel which has the best performance (for me). Hope i helped you
Thanks but i will not have lags? Pandora have lags on 600MHz. When i use jaggyRom on 600MHz i not have lags. When i use setcpu and i set 900MHz the phone reboot why?. I need more MHz because i record video on YouTube

I havent got any lags with Aries kernel on 828 mhz i think, and yes, your pico reboots cause you have class 4 sd card and the class 4 supports upto 828-868 mhz. I dont know why but class 4 sd cards just dont support 878 and 900 mhz, its freakin' weird but the pll2 method its created that way :/
EDIT: Dont say thanks, just hit the THANKS button under any post that helped you "so i can become more famous, MUHAHAHA "
What does the OC in kernels? What is this?
I will test it when make Gapps to CM 10.1

The oc kernels make your device's cpu overclockable, the aries kernel is a kernel posted in original android development for pico and why would you make gapps for cm10.1 it already has xD
I no making i wait for gapps.
Gapps: I will upload special gapps later.Full package will NOT WORK

Your english is a little confusing but you will get it, here's a link for gapps cm10.1 http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390248398092763478, i've tested it and its working
EDIT: Download cm10.1 latest build that you've posted and flash gapps. You can even use oc kernel if you want great performance.
I come from Polish Thank you very much
I must install kernel after CM or earlier? Gapps last?
what kernel i have to get? OC or no-OC?

Order: cm -> gapps -> kernel, you can use the aries non-oc kernel given in cm10.1 build 5 or you can use aries oc kernel, make your choise and feel free to give me questions.
Thanks
When i use OC kernel i have laags. When i use NO-OC i will not have lags?
When i set 878 the phone reboot and reboot and i have to reinstall rom. Why?

I dont have lags with aries oc - 828 mhz, lulzactive or smartassv2, and it reboots cause class 4 sd cards dont support 878 and 900 mhz.

Can you anserw the question??
Usually with oc kernel you'll have better performance and less lags, with non-oc you will have more lags, try both if not sure or use aries oc kernel with min freq 122 mhz and max 600 mhz = non-oc, min freq 122 mhz and max 822 mhz = oc.
I must use OC if i want 822? NO-OC have max 600MHZ?
____________________________________________________
When i use jaggyrom i set 320MHz and i don't have lags. When i use cM 10.1 and aries i have lags.

Yes, thats right
I dont know, jaggyrom is with android 2.3.5, this is 4.2.2, older = smoother but with the new pll2 oc method by cute_prince it shouldn't have lags.
Do you make the 2 partitions, order SD-DATA(1gb)->SD-CACHE(60-70 mb)?

Maybe CM10 or CM9 with pandora or jarvis kernel but i tried them a lot of times and cant boot. Battery use will always be high i think, cause its CM10.1 and it is oc-ed.
P.S i think maybe ill try some sense (3.5 maybe) cause it boots very fast, no lags and better battery life.
for example
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344110 i find this. this will be good?

Under clocking CM 10.1 will reduce performance. Its android 4.2, need more memory and cpu
@michal16
so u want OC? try OCed kernel, but remember to carefully follow cute_prince pll2 method
and about lag,it depends not only on cpu,but also sd-card u use,(class 4,6,10)...
remember to calibrate your battery after installing new rom
