[Q] Installing Paranoid Android 4.2.2 kexec ROM - Motorola Atrix 2

Now, since kexec is working can anyone tell me how to install it on my Atrix 2? I am running leaked 4.1.2 for my atrix. Is the 4.2.2 PA stable enough for daily use?

You wont be able to run PA on leaked 4.1.2 and yes it is very stable. FXZ to stock ics and install BMM from there flash PA.

How to use BMM? Can you give me a link for it? Can't we flash it similarly to stock ICS?

You have to RSD Lite/FXZ back to stock ICS. Then install BMM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2115715)

Thanks. But that looks complicated. Should I do it before FXZing to ICS or after? I will give it a try.

kexec based ROMs will work even on JB leak. If kexec version of PA is available, then just install bmm and make edits as mentioned in the thread linked above and flash it. No need to fxz.

Now the problem with kexec should be solved and it should work on any device

I did the partition in System3. Sizes for system.img is 800mb, data.img is 1000 mb and for cache its 300mb. Is it ok or do I need other partition value for PA 4.2.2.
After this step, how to install PA 4.2.2? WIll my original stock ROM be preserved in System partition?? This means I can use two ROMs at once?

Yeah. Exactly. Leave system 2. you can install other ROMs on other systems too as long as you don't run out of space. If you install PA on system 3, the ROM whichever you have on System 1 will be as it is.
You can boot into whichever you want at boot. And if you wanna remove a ROM ( system 1 can't be removed, it's default system) , delete that partition and don't do a factory reset. It will wipe away all the other systems if you do .

But what should be the optimum size for system.img, I think 800 mb is too much and for cache 300 mb is also more. Can you suggest an optimum size for all three?

650 mb for system not necessary at all. These Custom ROMs leave you with atleast 100 mb of space in system out of 500mb that you allot cuz it has no bloatware present.

I am trying to install my ROM on system 3 partition since system 2 partition is for webtop etc. Initially I am allocating the size for system.img and others, then booting to recovery and then "switch systems". But when I switch systems, its giving error that "system.img cannot be found". Am I doing something wrong?
EDIT: I am getting orange color in my system 3 partition. I am selecting kexec also as ROM type. After installation, PA 4.2.2 is not booting, blank screen comes for 5-10 seconds and then it reboots. I am on JB 4.1 leak

Steps to flash the rom is straight forward
Load appropriate apollo_0531.ops file in odin and flash the .tar as "one package"
This will get the rom working
There are 2 things that fugumod does
1 /etc/init.d scripts start
2 Filesystems are recognized
Best way to I do is
When i am on Stock kernel I delete all files from /sdcard/Android/data/fugumod/
and keep fs.convert with lines
---------------------
mmcblk0p2 ext4
stl6 ext2
stl7 ext4
stl8 ext2
---------------------
boot in recovery and do factory reset and delete cache
Flash fugumod
and wait for ages so the fs gets converted
If you dont want to wait..
dont keep any files in fugumod directory when on stock kernel and rest remains same
i.e factory reset and flash fugumod
for a quick workaround if you get stuck after fugumod flash
remove sdcard
Do data/cache wipe and factory reset from recovery
and boot.. you'll get in os faster..
once the phone is on insert sdcard and wait for it to get mounted
delete all files from fugumod directory and reboot
Initially fugumod is super slow because it has to convert fs load scripts and cpu is not scaled properly.
once the fs is fine, converted and recorded in fs.current the init scripts (apps2sd) are also cool with everything
then when you see the interface its very slow because of inappropriate cpu speeds (use set cpu to set settings of your choice)
There is a also a zipalign script which will run for first time and take time to make itself comfortable
Nice...
Good work! Nice to see new Devs popping up!

[Q] LG Phoenix Cyanogenmod(ded) Play Store Problem

I have a LG Phoeinix with a custom Jelly Bean ROM (4.1.1) and I have GAPPS installed, and the Play store always says, "Server error" no matter what I've tried. I've scoured the internet and these very forums themselves and couldn't find a solution that worked. What can I possible do? Countless reboots have proved to be worthless and a waste of time.
Has it ever worked (since you flashed the ROM and gapps)? How much free space do you have on /system?

Nah, I fixed it by flashing another ROM that had G-apps built in, like the original setup screen. But when I tried using my main account it gave me a "server error" whenever I tried to download something, but then I logged in with another account and all works well. As of now I have 11.36 GB free SD-Card space and 79 MB free space internal storage.
Why would memory matter?
Not memory, specifically the /system partition. The LG P50x family of devices have limited room on the /system partition. The problem with JB is that it's much bigger than ICS, and there's not enough room to fit the entire ROM + all of gapps on it. See here for more information, explanation, and solutions.

The ROM I used before was 126 MB, and the one I use now is only 110. And I've run into another problem: Last night I left it on the charger and it was so hot it felt like it melted, but it still works except for the camera. Now whenever I try to open the camera I get the message: Error connecting to Camera."
Any suggestions? I've heard of a number of CM10 users out there with this problem and no solution.
Personally, I don't know, as I'm using CM9. Hopefully, someone else may have answers...

Um, could you recommend someone I can either PM or get a thread started with?
CM9 isn't that different from CM10. It has happened when I used 2.3.7 and that's why I switched to 4.1.1.
You can post your question here, but be prepared for people to tell you you don't have enough free space on /system, and you should have searched & read more before posting.
Are you using a custom DPI setting? Sometimes the play store breaks when you are using a lower (or higher?) DPI setting.

On GB I was, and I had no problems there. On GB I had a 100 DPI, and the Play Store worked fine, as accustomed to 160 DPI.

[Q] AT&T 4.04 ICS rooted BMM to JB - Trouble free ROM?

I have a rooted AT&T MB865 running official ICS 4.04 with BMM. Is there any trouble free JB ROM for this situation.
I looked & all I found were about the Asian MB865 or a CWM ROM with problems.
SlimBean Stable Build 1 (September 17, 2013) works great.
Very stable, great performance.
Look it up on XDA

If you want something without issues you should consider one of the ICS ROMs. All of the jb ROMs will have issues. Thank Motorola for that with their stupid locked bootloader.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.

None of the ROM s have any wifi issues so if thats what your worried about
Its only that when you boot for the 1st time the wifi doesnt work
after a reboot the wifi starts to work so wifi is not a issue here
and with all the new ROM s now ported to atrix 2 you should definitely try some of the new builds
use BMM and multi boot flash the one you like its really amazing plus non kexec gives good battery life
and you can run different ROM s simultaneously how can you not want that LOL

ROM zip file is stored wherever you placed it, typically on SD card.
After flashing you can delete it.
Same goes for GAPPS

It uses the data partition on the main system, or system 1. That's why a factory rest will delete all non main systems. The actual location is:

[MOD] Dalvik2System Updated 4/25/2014

Are you tired of seeing all that free space in your system partition? Well let's make use of it by moving your dalvik-cache to the system partition saving you a lot more space for apps and downloads Its all done automatically at boot all you have to do is hit thanks and flash the zip provided in recovery and reboot.
Update: should work on every rom just flash in recovery. hboot version no longer matters
thanks! sounds nice!
two questions:
1. what partitions are used for actual CM-nightlies? I flashed the 4.4.2 OTA a while ago, does this mean I have the new partition-layout?
(maybe a quick tip for everyone how to check which layout is used)
2. do we have to flash this every time we flash a new nightly?
Yes but as far as the second question you'll have to modify updater script anyway since you have the newer firmware every time you flash a new nightly. So what I do is also delete the line that says "format" also. That way any system modifications you make won't be touched.
Sent from my One Mini
Also with this mod you can make youre own init.d scripts and just put em in the init.d directory and they will run at boot. So you don't need a scripter app. Just set the permissions of your scripts accordingly 755 should do the trick

AFAIK CM still uses the "old" layout. That means you'll have to modify the CM nightly zips to flash them successfully to your device, if it has the new partition layout.
I made a new thread to share my insights and to describe how to check which layout a device has: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713849

Its very very easy to do simply open updater script look for the number 33 change it to 35 then look for 31 and change it to 33 then flash the ROM and flash my mod from this post and you're good to go.

I'm just wondering if it's necessary to modify the boot.img, too? It contains a fstab, doesn't it? However, it seems to work as well with the original boot.img from the cm zip.
There is a custom kernel in this mod with the adjustments made that's why theres two different versions.lol

Brilliant! so re: the CM nightlies.."simply open updater script look for the number 33 change it to 35 then look for 31 and change it to 33 then flash the ROM and flash my this mod".
also i normally unzip, delete all the apps, libs that i dont need/use, add pure x performance mod, add google launcher.xposed etc ..i can just do that the same way huh?
sorry for all the questions bud and thanks again
Yup, though pure x is virtually a placebo. I wouldn't even use it.

yeah , see i wasn't too sure about it. as you say a placebo. although it does reduce the animation scale down...which i feel makes a difference but i suppose that can be done in dev options
You can switch animation off in development settings.lol or adjust it.

Internal Memory : How to get maximum free space?

Motorola Atrix 2 has got 8GB of ROM but users get only 4.xx GB available as free.
I am not complaining about the free space but want to know if there is workaround to get more free space available free for our use? Recently fellow member @swaggy123 mentioned in one thread that he used to have 6.xx GB of free space in JB leak ROM. That strike my mind if it was possible in JB leak ROM then why not in other ROMs?
Right now I am having SlimKat 5.10 ROM with minimal GApps on system and no other ROMs on any of the systems and phone is showing 4.55 GB as total space. There I have installed apps of worth 1.02 GB and now having around 3.26 GB of free space left in the internal memory.
For instance two thoughts came in my mind :
1. If we install Standard GApps instead of Minimal GApps then do they consume that available free data space or install in the system partition?
2. If we manually include few regularly used apps in the main ROM then where will they go? In the system partition or in the visible free data partition of 4.55 GB?
Is there any practical and risk-free workaround to get maximum space visible out of the internal memory?

Mine is also Indian retail MB865 but I never had above 4.55 in total.
ROM is of 8GB in size but looks like the default partitions have occupied bigger sizes and left only 4.55 GB as data partition in my case. I guess there should be some workaround to get more space.
BTW where the GApps install? in the data partition or in the system partition? And where system apps install?

Also in the system partition.
If you want to dig into it some more to get a little better understanding of the partitions install a good root enabled file explorer, ( Root Explorer is my preference but ES Explorer is a popular one as well) and look around in the root "/" of your device. The file path to your system apps will be /system/app & /system/priv-app. Your free user apps will be located at /data/app and (most of) your paid apps will be at /data/app-asec. Any partitions created by BMM will be in /data/clockworkmod/virtual. Etc.
Of course, don't change anything in any of the folders in the root of the device until you know what you're doing, but don't be afraid to poke around and explore.
Thanks @1BadWolf for clarifying things further
Since GApps install in system partition, here are few questions:
1. How do I know the size of the system partition and available free space in it? I explored the the folders mentioned by you in the root explorer and got what you said. But couldn't find how to asses the size of the system partition.
2. How do I include few more apps in the GApps? For eg Gmail, GMaps, Airdroid, Sygic, Translate, Chrome etc are few apps which I always keep in my phone so I think its better to include them in the GApps. But how do I do that? Can I find original apk file of those apps somewhere?
3. If I include those apps in the GApps, will they continue getting updated from play store?
4. Can I re-flash new modified GApps on existing custom ROM I am currently having on system 1 without need of fresh install?

#1- If you're using Root Explorer just navigate to the /system folder. You'll see the amount of memory used and the amount available near the top of the screen. (See attached screenshot)
#2- I use Titanium Backup to convert certain apps to system apps then, also with TiBu, create a flashable zip with the apps. It's an extra zip to flash but only takes a few seconds to do it. If you just prefer to put them in with gapps, you can copy them with Root Explorer then insert them in the zip with ZArchiver . The TiBu method is better though because it'll even restore the app settings if you want it to.
#3-Yes.
#4-Yes.

Strangely its showing 354 MB used and only 123 MB free. Then I tried to see whats cache partition has consumed and it shows 44kb used, 288mb free (I am on ART). Data is showing 1.3gb used, 3.3gb free.
Where my rest of the internal memory has gone?
Right now I don't have any partition, neither the root explorer is showing clockworkmod folder anywhere!
EDIT : Well I explored bit more in the root explorer and found few more folders where its showing space consumption:
/preinstall : 15mb used, 260mb free
/dev : 136kb used, 420mb free.
/pds : 1.1 mb used, 2.8mb free
/data/tmp : 4.0kb used, 420mb free
vendor : 354mb used, 123mb free (showing title is system storage)
Any idea whats happening here?

O dear..i dont knw the reason of your struggle...But yes you can find Clockworkmod folder inside \root\Data folder
Just wipe out all systems and dont repartition the system 1 ever..just leave it as it is...without tinkering the System 1 partitions...
Can we start from the beginning ?? that will giv us a a better perspective of your issue
Answer me this question :
1) Which OS were you on SYSTEM 1 ?? JB Leak 3 or ICS ?
I was on JB Leak 3 ...
When i flashed JB Leak 3 on my phone.. It freed 6 GB internal space...If u r really bothered for internal memory just try this :
1) Flash JB Leak 3
2) Then install BMM
3) Activate System 2 ....
Now Format System 1 and install Any Kitkat ROM
DONT EVER TRY TO DELETE SYSTEM 1 PARTITIONS... JUST FORMAT WHEN REQUIRED
That shold give you 6.4 GB of internal space
Thanks for the replies.

Did you have 6 GB when you had ICS or GB?
How did you flash JB? Using BMM or any other way? I have become familiar with BMM and it looks easy to me. Please provide link of the threads I would need for flashing.

Yes..the Problem with MB865 indian version on ICS is we dont have access to the internal memory
When we flash to JB Leak 3...We are now accessible to Internal memory...After having JB Leak 3 on sys 1 .. . Any rom you install over Sys1 is going to give u access to all of the INTERNAL memory
Go to this thread for JB LEak 3 installation
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2092107
Or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093154
Root method is already posted in the thread
After you root check the internal space u get
Then install BMM according to the instructions
then flash kitkat . You are good to GO
P>S : This doesnt work on AT&T .... and You have to flash an SBF file via RSD Lite....Go through the complete instructions first
Here is a video for the same showing the whole installation process in case you are not used to RSD Flashing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9p6GHpDX9qA
Go through this video all should be clear

Thanks swaggy123 for the links but now a confusion, I don't have stock ICS ROM on my phone and running a kitkat ROM in system 1. The flashing steps are for the stock ICS I think. How do I install the JB leak now over the current Kitkat? And my phone is already rooted, do I need to unroot it?
Another thing I noticed in the JB leak thread that the Motorola had removed webdock support in the their JB and I guess that webdock thing was consuming the extra space. Isn't there any other way to remove the webdock related things from the phone. Maybe we can free up the space if its possible to remove webdock things.

As for flashing thing, just do a normal fxz through rsd. Boot into fastboot mode and voila. Basically you'll get stock rom on your phone. So you need to root it if you want to embark on flashing custom roms. As for other things, nah. I'll leave to swaggy to answer btw, jb leak was never officially released to our device.

Actually I am not familiar with FXZ, neither I know whats RSD. And that fastboot? is that the boot menu which we get on stock phone by pressing volume+power buttons? How to get that back? And stock ROM? I am running Kitkat ROM right now and don't have stock ROM with me so how will I get the stock rom back? Or you mean flashing that JB leak ROM? But how exactly to flash that over a Kitkat ROM? There aren't any clear cut instructions, whichever are available seems like for PROs only.
I know only one thing - BMM, nothing else. Even I rooted my phone long ago after updating to official ICS :cyclops:
Try this for fxz to jb leak
its a great guide with pictures, all details like RSD, fastboot are given here
Keep Calm !!

Ok .. i sense PANIC around here
You have got a valid question there....Even i am also not sure if we can try JB Leak 3 over custom ROMs running on System 1 ..because i never needed to FXZ...One thing for sure u can FXZ to ICS without any issue....
So i suggest first FXZ to ICS...then Flash JB Leak 3 according to the video i posted.....It works 100% i guarantee....
Once on JB Leak 3 on system 1 ...you can have the full bounty of 6.2 GB...
Thats all i can suggest...Sorry BRO it seems TEDIOUS....But nothing is simple with our A2...
And about removing Webtop FROM stock ICS...I dont think it will be possible....It will cause bootloop...I could be wrong as well...Because when its Atrix2 anything is possible :laugh:
And this definitely is not for pros my bro....I did all these when i knew nothing about my A2...absolutely nothing

What pro? swaggy and sameer are right. And oh. You might also want to refer to altered's thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1909319
Yes. That fastboot. And what do you mean how to get that back? You can just press the three buttons combination. Bmm just hijack in initial boot process. It is never been a replacement for stock recovery. Grab the jb leak file you want to flash. And follow the step in altered's thread. You can try swaggy method too. Of course which one is appear to be convenient for you. I've never tried it out. Yet. For some reason I'm sticking to ics. And I only use rsd method. You might want to snoop around this forum. Everything is in here. The reason we use rsd for flashing is because some key thing. And jb leak apparently meant to be released from motorola. Somehow I don't really remember it how the story goes

Thanks everyone for your responses.
Now something went inside my mind. Looks a tedious but doable task. Will try when I will find some spare time in bulk
My wifi not working on jb leaks 1 and 3..working fine with ics and kk..i directly fxz from Axxionkat to jb leak 3..still wifi not working..have tried factory reset repeat fxz etc..any idea guys??
