I will be accepting donations if you like my work. After contacting HTC, they informed me that my device is not under warranty, as a technician determined it to be "user related" damage and that all repairs will be at owner expense.

If you follow my twitter, you know I bricked my G1. I am trying to get it repaired, but due to the long response time I had to buy a mytouch (no point having two G1s IF the other one gets repaired). Using this bad luck to my advantage, I scripted a way for hero to run on both with two simple commands.
How I rooted a brand new "perfected SPL" MT3G and installed Hero in 15 min:

Updated, but still feeling slow? Back up. Try rm system/sd/app_s then reboot to recovery and wipe data. then install fresh. Before restoring your data, open the backup folder on your sd card and remove the subfolders for programs you no longer have or need to have backed up.
I noticed a 10% increase in speed and my phone was far from lagging to begin with.
Losing messages? Make sure that system/sd/app/com.android.mms.apk does NOT exist, as this was an old release. Go into settings for messaging (from the conversation list panel) and set priority to "High"
Most Recent:
G1 / MT3G: http://twistedumbrella.slackdev.com/ZeroXd-6.0.zip
Now includes dynamic swap. Rewrote the method of apps to sd for myTouch.
Build will move system apps, user apps, and dalvik to sd on a g1 device.
Build will ONLY move user apps to the sd when using a myTouch.
This will allow the system apps and dalvik to remain on internal device.
This is a completely new method of doing a merge build so bear with me.
I am going to be rewriting things for users without a lot of user apps, like myself.
This will allow the entire build to be placed onto internal for mytouch users.
Once you have updated and are ready to use the phone, execute Terminal and enter the following commands:
su
magic
This configures the system to the specific device. This is until I finish automation.
LEDs have been restored to 93%
Bluetooth restored in MT3G
Porting my own boots for MT3G
Based on the System Image from Haykuro
Using the Kernel and Boot.img from JAC
Extensive system script edits were done
SwitchROM installs itself to system/sd/
LEDs are at about 90-100% brightness
CPU Optimization turned off by default
Enhanced Terminal included
Fixed My Account included

Will donate as soon i finish with my exams, I came to US for a holiday for 3 months and as i came back i have exams, only 3 left, have to finish 6 books per subject (thats f*****ng 3 months syllabus) and i have exams after 2 day holidays , thats why i have been a bit inactive in the community, will be active on 24 and will provide a special version of HERO based on my favourite ZEROXD.

Had to fix scripts. Check the link on original thread for download. They are the same files. The verification fail happens when your downloading as I upload. It was a last minute fix on the way to work. Sorry for the issues.

Thank you... h.nocturna for the fix, and nacron for the heads up...
Here is the fix for auto-complete... Worked for me on 5.1r2
Everything in
open dos prompt.
adb remount
(***back up the original***)
adb pull /system/sd/app_s/HTC_IME.apk c:\(*your directory*)\HTC_IME.apk
(***install the new one***)
adb push c:\(*your directory*)\HTC_IME.apk /system/sd/app_s/HTC_IME.apk
start your Messaging it will crash the first time you want to use the keyboard... restart Messaging and it should work...
HTC_IME.apk here: http://www.mediafire.com/?te0symyx4yz
Mms auto-rotate works for me in 5.1r2 so I dont know. But possibly you still have the old Mms.apk. Try pushing the new one from 5.0 or later rom...
Twisted are you using BFS in your new builds??? Post 5.1 that is....

1.8 is running pretty awesome.
i guess its safe to assume that i shouldn't try 2.0 yet? lol
zeroxd 5.2r4 seems to be faster than jacs 2.0 but i cant get auto rotate to work or multitouch and when i try the commands in first post i get "/system/xbin/su: not found''
did you try running the commands via adb ?
im not familiar with doing it that way i dnt even know wat adb is
just connect your phone to the pc
install the drivers from android SDK
start > run > cmd
cd to the android tools directory
and adb shell
that's how i did with my phone and works perfectly
im not gona risk any damage ill deal without the rotate for a day till its fixed

I HAVE CY 4.3.2.1 ROM RUNNING THIS IS WHAT I DID TO GET IT WORKING
I DONT KNOW HOW LONG IT WILL WORK AS I AM ONLY DOING WHAT WAS HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE ME
Copied the following onto my Android's SD card:
http://cid-3cf744d4c83401e6.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public
build.prop
build.sapphire.prop
Maps.apk
Unplugged my phone and waited for it to prep the SD card
Fired up the application Terminal Emulator
Typed the following commands:
Code:
suYour phone may prompt you to allow or not allow this, allow it obviously, otherwise wait until you see a # before continuing to the next command
Code:
ashCode:
mount -o remount,rw /systemNext it's time to copy the build files into your system directory, but first you should backup the originals just in case.
Code:
cp /sdcard/build.prop /system
cp /sdcard/build.sapphire.prop /systemRemove the existing Google Maps app
Code:
cd /data/app
rm *Maps*
rm *maps*Code:
when i did this it siad it did not exist but i just keep going!!!
cd /data/dalvik-cache
rm *Maps*
rm *maps***END OF UPDATE**
All done with this part, time to reboot.
Code:
rebootGetting force close prompts for Google Voice? Yeah, go ahead and do the force close. Be sure to wait until your phone is done booting.
Now it's time to actually install the new app. So again, open up Terminal Emulator and type the following code:
Code:
suAgain, allow this command and/or wait until you see a # character
Code:
ash
mount -o remount,rw /system
install /sdcard/Maps.apk /system/app/At this point, I couldn't get things to work like the second post I linked earlier, so I'll did this command...
Code:
rebootGetting force close prompts for Google Voice again? Close the sucker and wait until your phone is fully booted.
Ok the app is installed and you may be thinking you're good to go, but you aren't. It's still not working for you like it wouldn't work for me. Do you have Google Voice installed before you did all this stuff? Most likely!
Go into your phone's settings and Manage Applications
Uninstall Google Voice
Fire up the Market and search for Google Voice
Install Google Voice
Reboot your phone (You can do this by holding the power button and select "reboot phone" or the long way through Terminal Emulator)
Run the Map app (now you may have your old address in there that you tried earlier, never fear. Just clear the map from the map menu)
Put in some directions like you normally would
You should see the option for "Navigate" after it gets the directions. Click it.
Accept the installation of the voice guide thingy
You're done! Revel in the awesomeness!
Get a beer and laugh at your friends with an iPhone
these is what i did exactley and it worked for me
I DONT NO HOW LONG THIS WILL WORK FOR!!!!!!

FOR SAPPHIRE
I read a post earlier about fixing some apps not working.
in build.prop
change to 4 instead of 5.
ro.build.version.sdk=4
Did this and re-ran part 1 and part 2. Works fine with Handcent and facebook app working. haven't got any FC with other apps and navigation still working after a few hours and some reboots.
Uploaded a new .rar with changes to build.prop
http://www.mediafire.com/?jwhmkzay2mm
Extract All to Desktop
Run part 1 - when prompted hit any key and phone will reboot.
when up and running, run part 2.
Test nav by opening google maps and geting directions. Underneath "Show on Maps" you should see "Navigate" If you don't try installing Google Voice (fixed it for a lot of people)
If you did the above and Navigate isn't working, here is a link to the build.prop version that causes some app errors but gets nav Working

how do i run the .bat files on a mac? i double clicked on it and it opened terminal then it rebooted my phone but it was unable to copy the files over.
Code:
cannot stat 'build.prop': No such file or directory
cannot stat 'build.trout.prop': No such file or directory
: command not foundp/Android/tools/Part 1.bat: line 5: pause
logout
In windows all that is required is to extract all files to the same directory (only tried it by having them all on the desktop. then doubleclicking the part1.bat from the desktop.
I'm not familiar enough with OSX but it seems like its not finding the build.prop to push it to your phone.
Google Nav only works in the US
NOTE: Currently Google Nav will only work in the US.
You can get it running (as in install the app) on phones elsewhere in the world, but to actual use the Navigate feature you have to have the GPS turned on (duh) so it knows where you are, and due to licensing issues (I think) the Navigate feature will not work if you are not in the US.
Running Cyanogen 4.2.3.1, I used the files Skreacher provided on my T-Mobile MT3G, running on Mac OS X Leopard...it works! I installed the Text to Speech thing needed as well...Facebook loads as always (some people were having problems) but the only thing is that exiting Navigation sometimes doesn't work (I have to exit twice). Thanks a lot Trying this out on the road tomorrow!
for the semi-noobs, like myself lol, can someone please re-explain which codes to run with Skreacher's added input changes?
sorry dskyers, i'm confused like hell per your intructions.
i forgot to mention i'm kind of slow... lol all i want is google maps nav...

Worked like a charm
I followed the instructions at the top of this thread. It works perfectly. Google voice is working too! I was having some trouble with that on my earlier attempts (i think i was using the build.prop's for the G1).
Also, I updated to CY 4.2.4 and there is no breakage. Navigation still works like a charm.

That would be negative. Still no option for nav.
This guide attempts to solve the following problems:-
1. The menu and home buttons' keypresses are detected but the respective actions aren't executed.
2. The lockscreen doesn't get activated.
3. The power menu has only reboot and power off as options. The rest of the options like Airplane Mode and Profiles.
PREREQUISITES:
1. ADB
2. SQLITE3
FIX:
1-Copy sqlite3 to /system/bin
2- chmod 777 /system/bin/sqlite3
3-Type following command in ADB or Terminal Emulator
Code:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "INSERT INTO secure (name,value) VALUES ('device_provisioned','1');"
4- Reboot
5- Done
This guide is based upon this post.
Have you tested this? Does this fix the anoying bug when you press menu and nothing happens so you have to press 2-3 times? Will the phone wake on back/menu press? Mine takes 2-3 clicks to wake with menu/back key, this is not the case with eclair.
2. The lockscreen doesn't get activated. - What do you mean by this? Is it when the lockscreen takes 1-2 seconds to appear after waking the phone? - this doesn't happen to me anymore thankfully.

I think u misunderstood...
*Sometimes due to a weired bug in android, there are only 4 options in extended power menu..Power Off,Reboot,Recovery n Download.
*Home button does not works at all.
*Lock-screen is completely gone.
*Power menu just turns on the screen
*Sleep mode is gone.
U can search for the same problem over google but there was no sure shot solution... But now there is..
I myself faced it few times while cooking the roms and each time u face this bug, there is no other way than start from zero again....
Had the same problem ages ago.
It occurs if you remove SetupWizard.apk.
Leave it be, do a factory reset and all will be well.

Is it possible to include this fix in a rom?
Or to do it in recovery with a update.zip?
this is not even needed thomas You have deleted setupwizard.apk from system/app I think. If you delete that apk this happens just place it back. If you apply this but do not have the setupwizard.apk in your system it will come back after a while

I am on a SE Xperia Arc, rooted with CWM recovery, and a generic firmware 4.1.B.0.431.
I went into recovery mode and reset the phone, wiping everything. After that, this exact same problem appeared (home button non-functioning, no lock screen, etc...) Also, the phone would not receive calls! Data was working and was able to receive messages that way, and was able to dial out.
A few tips for people running this fix to save some time.
How to run an ADB terminal command line? Don't bother.
1. Just install something like Root Explorer.
2. copy sqlite3 to the /system/bin directory ON YOUR PHONE
3. change the permissions (that's that chmod 777 means)
4. give owner and group read and write permissions
5. IMPORTANT. copy the fix.sh (it's a script) to the ROOT of the phone. not /sdcard, but ROOT
6. just click on the fix.sh and select "excute) and the script will run and you will see output saying (done, reboot) or something.
good luck! and thanks for everybody's help!

Code:
soinfo_relocate(linker.cpp:1013): cannot locate symbol "sqlite3_load_extension" referenced by "sqlite3" ... CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
... what can I do?
I am sure all files have the right permissions, but apart from that I wasn't even able to find that error on google :/
hahaha nevermind... It worked the first time I tried it, I just had to reboot and actually turn the lockscreen on

Today,*05:10 PMThread Author ***#1**mtcstle*Posts1 PostsThrough an unfortunate sequence of volume/power key manipulations, my Galaxy Note 10.1 entered "Factory Mode" and won't come out. This is evidenced by a semitransparent panel superimposed upon the "home" screen with a list of hardware information and by a message I saw only briefly during one restart that stated in red, something like "...in Factory Mode... change to user mode before verification". I've done done a "factory reset", goodbye custom settings, but to no avail. Does anyone know how to exit "Factory Mode" on this device? So far, I have followed some reasonably clear directions to root the device. I think I was successful, I've verified that /system/xbin/suis rwsr-sr-x root:root. I read in another forum that if I rooted the machine and edited /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode from OFF to ON, it would correct the problem. If I enter*su*-root "echo -n ON > /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode" I get permission denied. It is perhaps of note that when I*su, my prompt remains "$" although I see a message that the shell has been granted superuser privilege. This "aint my first rodeo". But, it is my first android. Don't know where to get the ROM ID, I''ve got Android 4.0.4.I installed COM and rooted the device but so far no real luck. I''ve been trying to edit could edit /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode from OFF to ON but had no luck there either. Where can fInd ROM ans a CMW tutorial?
Just install any rom from Samfirmware or the link in my signature.
Also you need to flash using ODIN the same is also shown in the tutorial which link can be found in my signature.
Once you get your device running we can figure out the balance

OK, yeah. I'm 4.1.1, now. Oddly enough, I retained settings, e. g. wi-fi, and downloads. Although, the device is no longer rooted and while the busybox app is still here, the actual binary is not and since su is gone, it fails to start. Most of all, I still have that annoying information panel superimposed on my home screen. I think I've got to grt a root shell going, :"#" and edit /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode.
the reason you have that is because you installed the rom without doing a wipe and that he reason you have all you apps
Since you are able to boot I would suggest install cwm - root - install titanium - backup all you date - do a complete wipe and format using titanium - boot into download and then install rom
this should work and solve your problem

I couldn't figure out how to do a wipe and format using titanium. I did install CWM, root the device, install titanium and back up my applications. are you on the rom which belongs to the region device was bough it yes then do the following things
Make sure you are not rooted
No custom recovery installed
The binary count is zero if not then you need install triangleaway and reset it
then send it to the samsung or else they will void your warranty

Also when in CWM recovery did you format system, and everthing else except you external sdcard which I would suggest to be safe you should remove

OK, the last time through! I didn't see the options for formatting. I'll go 'round again. If I format the SD card, it will remove my backups! Not so?
Yes when you format you will loose all data the format option should be in mounts and storage
Also go in advance options and do a wipe davlink cache and fix permissions
Also trying to research on you issue just suggest you search for your problem with an S3 or S2 you will find a solution faster because of the number of devices there are and S3 is close to the note
Good advice from Sa mir. They've a solution for their device.

This time I formatted everything, still it came back up displaying machine information in a table on the home page. It's getting on my last nerve. I got into this fix simply by using the stock "wipe & reset" function after several applications began to misbehave. I can't believe it's not a setting or a soft switch somewhere. Do you suppose one of the other forum areas might be a place to look for advice.

OK, the last time through! I didn't see the options for formatting. I'll go 'round again. If I format the SD card, it will remove my backups! Not so?

Well, I'got busy for a few days but, no luck with the hardware printout on my screen. Can you tell me how to get a root shell on this thing? I've got SU and it seems to work but I keep getting permission denied from my shell. On a similar track, how can I execute a bash shell?

Success, I installed the "Android Terminal Emulator" after rooting the device. This time when I executed su, my prompt changed from "$" to "#" indicating a root shell. Next I did # echo -n ON > /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode. I booted the device and was welcomed by the new user dialogue and a clean unobstructed home screenn.

My last few posts went lost but I did find a solution. After flashing and rooting again, I installed "Android Terminal". Now, when I run $ su, the prompt changes to # as you'd expect. Finally, when I issue #echo -n ON > /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode, the expected result is obtained. Power off / power on, problem solved. I'm back in user mode. Many thanks to Sammir for the illuminating suggestions.
Please help!

hey man sorry to bother i have this problem to!! its annoying i tryed everything and it still there !!! please helpp
Darko454, this looks exaxtly like mine did. As I described, once I installed a better tereminal emulator, and
Super SU, I was able to edit /efs/FactoryApp/factory from OFF to ON. That fixed the problem. Are you familiar with editing files with the "echo" command? If not, let me know, I'll send more detailed inatructions.

chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr
chown 1000.1000 /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
chmod 0744 /efs/FactoryApp/keystr

Does anyone have any information on how to root this phone?
It is a tracfone running Android 4.1 with 1ghz qualcomm cpu.
Thanks.
I'm also looking for someone who might have some pointers on how to root this phone or install KitKat apps from Nexus 5 dump!!!
I know it is a low end phone but there are lots of people in the Tracfone world who are now able to get Android phones and are NEW to the smartphone universe.
Thanks.
I'm thinking of buying this phone. As a low end Android, how does it hold up? And if you want to root it, try Bin4ry's root method here. Just be careful.
Tried Bin4ry on ZTE Valet but it failed to root
I've had the phone a couple of days so far and while I'm by no means a qualified reviewer of smartphones, I do like the ZTE Valet. I'm too cheap to pay the $70-100 USD/month for a post-paid service that I don't need.
After searching the forums and seeing that no one reported trying to root the phone, I took a brave pill and tried the Bin4ry method (v31). I got the same message that many users reported - after rebooting, it fails to mount and copy the necessary files. Both the new standard method and the old method failed. It did no apparent harm to the phone - just didn't work. Here's some details on the phone I have:
Android version 4.1.1
Kernel 3.4.0-perf [email protected]
Thanks for any ideas or advice.
I just picked one up at Kmart for $80 today and am checking things out, trying to see about rooting it. My Hisense Sero 7 Pro tab is rooted and running great with a DoPa custom ROM.
I also purchased one of these and am happy so far. I have a question on the magnetic and rotation sensor. They seem to show up as installed as ak8962 devices but apps like 'my android sensors' don't show any data being returned. are they just not actually installed?
thanks

The rotation of the device changes the screen from portrait to landscape and 'maps', 'Gas Buddy' seems to show the right direction for magnetic north. I haven't had much time to check yet. AAMF, I haven't activated or transferred my number to the 'phone' yet as am deciding if is a 'keeper'. So far, I think it is as I can use WiFi and 'turn off' mobile data by option. Now checking things like battery life in standby.. Haven't found an option to shut WiFi when screen is off like in my JB 4.2.1 and HC 3.1 devices. Only seem to be able to turn WiFi on or off or see an option for airplane mode.
I agree - the screen rotates (how - I don't know ) I would assume gas buddy is using GPS to find north.

I'm going to get my hands on the phone soon. I'll proceed to attempt to get a recovery or something compiled for it if I can. First, I'd have to dump the rom and kernel which might require root access, but we will see. Once we have a recovery we can port CyanogenMod over to it.
Also I think I know why it's crashing, but I can't be sure until I can test it out myself.

oooops. Sorry posted in wrong thread.
ZTE Valet Z665c - obtaining temporary root
After trying numerous root methods (Bin4ry, Framaroot, ...), I stumbled on a method of getting temporary root using Cydia Impactor. Cydia Impactor appears to be partially successful. First of all, please note that all credit goes to those involved with Cydia Impactor and the discovery of the original exploits (do a search if you want).
This method might seem a little convoluted, but it works reliably for me. Note that I use a Linux machine so you might have to adapt the steps to work on another platform.
Prerequisites:
1. Menu -> System settings -> Developer options -> USB debugging ->Enabled.
2. Menu -> System settings -> Developer options -> Stay awake ->Enabled (to keep the telnet session from going to sleep).
3. telnet (I am running on Ubuntu, but some sort of telnet program is needed).
4. Cydia Impactor
5. phone is connected to your wifi.
Steps:
1. Run the "Cydia Impactor" to "# drop SuperSU to /system/xbin/su". See what happens.
2. It failed for me giving an error related to not being able to remount /system or not being able to create /system/xbin/su.
3. In Cydia Impactor, run "# start telnetd as system on port 2222". You don't need to bother to telnet in. Just let it finish and then proceed to the next step.
4. In Cydia Impactor, run "# start telnetd as root on port 22". Let it finish.
5. Telnet into your phone from a terminal on your computer: "telnet 192.168.1.117 -l root 22". Note that the ip address is likely different on your network, e.g., 192.168.1.xxx.
6. If everything worked OK, you should be presented with a root prompt ("~ #"). I have busybox (obtained from the Bin4ry exploit download) that I adb pushed to /data/local/tmp. The command "/data/local/tmp/busybox whoami" tells me I am indeed root.
OK - now the bad news for me. I proceed to try to install su but remount fails. If I issue the command:
~ # mount -o rw,remount /system
~ #
A root prompt is returned with no error message suggesting that it successfully remounted /system. Woohoo! But a "mount" command (or cat /proc/mounts) says it is still "ro" or read only. Darn. Does it appear that ZTE has crippled the mount command in some way? Now the question is how to permanently install root? I have poked around and at least was able to make a backup to my sdcard using bzip2
This should at least help as a first step. Others including myself have posted elsewhere on this phone. At this point, I'm not willing to risk flashing anything. I'm a noob so I'm hoping someone who is more familiar with the permissions and that sort of thing can complete the root and post a solution.
Thanks.
Awesome!
These findings are great, I'd be willing to check this out soon. (Linux box is down do to hardware issue. ).
If we can obtain root the remounting issue can definitely be fixed. Also, does busybox have the premissions to run?
Try this:
Code:
mount | grep system
That will give you somewhere within the text the partition that is registered as /system . Then:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount [PARTITION-THAT-COMMAND-RETURNED-HERE-MINUS-BRACKETS] /system
See if that works. But anyways, if it doesn't it can still be rooted! (just temporarily, but it is no longer an 'unrootable' device)
Note: I am not responsible for what happens using those commands.
a little more info in response to your questions
Dear Unkn0wn0ne,
I had messed around with it and also tried something like you suggested, e.g.:
mount -o rw,remount,relatime,data=ordered -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p19 /system
Also tried it with the "-n" option to avoid a write to mtab although I don't remember seeing mtab while purusing the file system.
Hadn't noticed that busybox was available under /system/bin:
~ # ls -al /system/bin/busybox
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root shell 1075144 Jul 19 11:20 /system/bin/busybox
~ #
Could be that it has a more limited command set than the one I put in /data/local/tmp. A lot of the commands under /system/bin have a symbolic link to toolbox.
Note that the telnet connection needs to be made over wifi and not the one available over usb. I got the ip address from my router's client list.
Oh yes - thanks for the reminder. Forgot to include the disclaimer about harming the phone or voiding the warranty.
Hope it works out well for you. Glad to hear your encouraging remarks.
Awesome!
Alright so that didn't work. This guy over here has a suggestion (he has scene your thread): - I can't publish links so I'll pm the link to you.
Also if busybox is symbolically linked you'd have to tell it specifically to call to the busybox pushed over via adb to: /data/local/tmp/busybox and not the stock.
In this case: /data/loocal/tmp/busybox/mount
Also the disclaimer is a must. There will always be that person that tries to blame it on someone else.
Note: I am not responsible for whatever happens using the information provided in this post.

I attempted this myself on my Windows 8 machine. I had to enable telnet, but that was easy. I had to reararange the command to "telnet root 192.168.x.xxx:22" (xxx is my IP). It keeps giving me the error "Connect failed."
Any thoughts out there?
try putty
Ph0enix_216,
I tried to connect from a Windows 7 machine and it works using putty for telnet (www.putty.org, a great program). Be sure to set the Connection->Data->Auto-login name to root.
well the guy in the other thread bricked his it sounds like...
http://androidforums.com/zte-valet/799676-ill-help-find-root-method-if-3.html
They tried to modify the mmcblk0p16 boot image and re-copy it back. It seemed to re-copy but then didn't boot with a verify error.. (I am paraphrasing - and don't really understand what they where doing )
