This guide attempts to solve the following problems:-
1. The menu and home buttons' keypresses are detected but the respective actions aren't executed.
2. The lockscreen doesn't get activated.
3. The power menu has only reboot and power off as options. The rest of the options like Airplane Mode and Profiles.
PREREQUISITES:
1. ADB
2. SQLITE3
FIX:
1-Copy sqlite3 to /system/bin
2- chmod 777 /system/bin/sqlite3
3-Type following command in ADB or Terminal Emulator
Code:
sqlite3 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db "INSERT INTO secure (name,value) VALUES ('device_provisioned','1');"
4- Reboot
5- Done
This guide is based upon this post.
Have you tested this? Does this fix the anoying bug when you press menu and nothing happens so you have to press 2-3 times? Will the phone wake on back/menu press? Mine takes 2-3 clicks to wake with menu/back key, this is not the case with eclair.
2. The lockscreen doesn't get activated. - What do you mean by this? Is it when the lockscreen takes 1-2 seconds to appear after waking the phone? - this doesn't happen to me anymore thankfully.

I think u misunderstood...
*Sometimes due to a weired bug in android, there are only 4 options in extended power menu..Power Off,Reboot,Recovery n Download.
*Home button does not works at all.
*Lock-screen is completely gone.
*Power menu just turns on the screen
*Sleep mode is gone.
U can search for the same problem over google but there was no sure shot solution... But now there is..
I myself faced it few times while cooking the roms and each time u face this bug, there is no other way than start from zero again....
Had the same problem ages ago.
It occurs if you remove SetupWizard.apk.
Leave it be, do a factory reset and all will be well.

that's no bug. it's the normal behavior of froyo that you have to do a double click on the "outside buttons" to wake up the phone.

Had this exact same problem yesterday. had to reflasb. And this happens after you switch roms with g3mod multiboot.

Exactly! thats why i prefer triboot/dualboot
Is it possible to include this fix in a rom?
Or to do it in recovery with a update.zip?
this is not even needed thomas You have deleted setupwizard.apk from system/app I think. If you delete that apk this happens just place it back. If you apply this but do not have the setupwizard.apk in your system it will come back after a while
I dont deleted it but maybe it is because i deodexed the rom... I wil try to replace it

does anyone know what causes this bug?

no, im still having the same problem on CM 7.2, after you remove Setup Wizard this problem occurs
Thanks a lot, I had this problem so many times, but this is the first time I am handling this without reflashing ROM. Thanks again.

thanks! this totally saved my @ss.
I am on a SE Xperia Arc, rooted with CWM recovery, and a generic firmware 4.1.B.0.431.
I went into recovery mode and reset the phone, wiping everything. After that, this exact same problem appeared (home button non-functioning, no lock screen, etc...) Also, the phone would not receive calls! Data was working and was able to receive messages that way, and was able to dial out.
A few tips for people running this fix to save some time.
How to run an ADB terminal command line? Don't bother.
1. Just install something like Root Explorer.
2. copy sqlite3 to the /system/bin directory ON YOUR PHONE
3. change the permissions (that's that chmod 777 means)
4. give owner and group read and write permissions
5. IMPORTANT. copy the fix.sh (it's a script) to the ROOT of the phone. not /sdcard, but ROOT
6. just click on the fix.sh and select "excute) and the script will run and you will see output saying (done, reboot) or something.
good luck! and thanks for everybody's help!
rooted device
Hallo, in advance - sorry for my English (haven't spoke nor written for long time)
Do I need rooted device to go through arunmcops's procedure? I have galaxy Y pro (b5510) and after rooting then unrooting and factory reset, I have the same issue when home button doesn't react... Thanx in advance for any response.
Hi!
I have just encountered this bug (on my I9300) and tried to apply your fix, but sqlite crashes saying
Code:
soinfo_relocate(linker.cpp:1013): cannot locate symbol "sqlite3_load_extension" referenced by "sqlite3" ... CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
... what can I do?
I am sure all files have the right permissions, but apart from that I wasn't even able to find that error on google :/
hahaha nevermind... It worked the first time I tried it, I just had to reboot and actually turn the lockscreen on

Well Here Is the quick Easy Guide In How To Do This
-Fist we Need To Get The Tools To Perform This Operation
pulled From This Tread we need
1. Motorola Drivers For Either 32 or 64 Bits
2. RSD Lite, witch is a tool for flashing your phone.
3. The GOT Open Recovery ToolUpdate: Added Latest version from G.O.T.'S Blog

EDIT: G.O.T. Has Added the burnerable open recovery to these sfb files so no need to flash it latter
-Now That We Have The Stuff We Need We are going to do it, fist i must say that unlike other roms that are applied by a backup restore (corect me if im whrong) this is a full flash and its going to reset everything so no apps will remain no setting will remain and is highly recommended that you uninstall every app you have, don't back them up(except for apps some apps that have a create backup file, those seem to work) just uninstall them, and when we are done have them installed again, Here Is A Tool That Will Help You Get There Faster
1.ok you have everything uninstalled right? now time for some action
2.install the proper divers (32 or 64)
3.install the RSD Lite tool
4.unzip the 2.2.1 FIRMWARE FILES you downloaded and you will find a ".sbf" file
5.now connect your phone to USB cable and turn it off
6.boot it in boot-loader mode (press the D-PAD UP key while pressing the power button), some night need you to release the button after a minute, a black screen will be shown on your phone and you will see the divers being installed on your computer.
7.when drivers are done open the RSD Lite tool and your device should appear you can click on it to see details.
8.now click on the "..." buttons that are close to the start button and look for the ".sbf" file, after a couple of seconds it should be ready to start
9.press the start button and do not unplug the cable or let your computer show the screen saver or go to sleep, the posses must not be stopped while it has started .
10.when the posses is done the devise will restart and voala, you have 2.2
-As GOT stands there are some bugs on the firmware and they have developed a fix to them and get root and overclock, here is what you have to do.
1. unzip the got open recovery tool into the root of your SD card
2.check this quote
NOTE: On some devices, we have encountered that rooting directly after flashing without rebooting after the initial flash can bring some issues with RootExplorer not asking for root permissions. To be safe, reboot after flash so that the “welcome to milestone” menu comes up, set up the device in general, then reboot to recovery and root the device as well as apply our 2.2.1 tweaks with Launcher, Services.jar fix and Wireless Tethering app.
Click to collapse
this means if the fist time your milestone got restarted and you saw "Welcome to Milestone" Message You are good an you can root.
but if you didn't then restart you phone and see if the message comes out, if not , a factory reset should have that scree message shown.
3. open the open recovery by pressing camera and power button at the same time while the device id off. you should see a scree with a "!" symbol on it then press fist volume rocker up button a leave it pressed then press camera button, some letter will pop out.
4. using the pad scroll down to "apply update.zip", after a couple of seconds the GOT menu should pop out (everything from now on uses the pad)
5.root your phone (why not)
6.go down to "Launch 2.2.1 Menu" Option.
7.Here you will see the "Fix Bugs They Are Talking About
One of the first things you should do is use the “Fix 2.2.1 bugs” selection in the new OR 2.2.1 menu after you flash the sbf file.
This tweak will fix some of the issues with the generic sbf build such as dual USB notifications, replacing some stock Motorola applications such as the old launcher/mediagallery and adding the Wireless Tethering application.
Click to collapse
8. there is the overclock too.
Now your device should have all the things you need to start playing with it,I encourage you to check on some tweaks the GOT team might have, and you might want.
I Hope This Was Helpful enjoy ^_^

something i don't get
I updated the firmware with RSD Lite, and used the one click tool, because:
whenever i try to hit update.zip i will get an errormessage, stating that these blocks couldn't be found -> ergo, the card not be mounted.
The HTC stuff i always managed, but this one is a mistery to me. Also, i did format fat32, pushed the stuff and then straight on bootup trying to hit the update.zip, without success.
I've read about how other people solved that problem, none of those approaches helped me.
Any hint is more than welcome.
2 bugs i've discovered so far: Battery drain like almost to be declared useless, some market apps "vanish" after installing them. I suppose those fixes would have done the job. I might attempt to use root explorer and execute the scripts like that, still I'd like to know why I'm unable to get the update.zip, resp. the G.O.T or any other "intelligent" boot menu installed.
Edit2: Even when installing the vulnerable sbf, i still get the error: E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 ....

I'd like to add something for Linux users:
Using a virtual machine (virtualizing WinXP) that has USB support (eg Oracle VM VirtuaBox, since VirtualBox OSE does not support USB forwarding) can do this pretty easy. So no worries when trying this via a VM.

Hello,
with several roms every week, suddenly appears this image.
After showing and select "force close" comes again and again and again. Then I reboot the device and the same problem. I have to reinstall again the rom or install a new one, but as i mention before, it happens every week.
I am going to appreciate if someone told me why happens.
Thanks a lot in advance.

1. are you using cm7 or any cm7 based roms? if you are, do not use the 2g/3g toggle in the cm power widget. that is a known issue.
2. have you ran a fix permissions? this is needed every once in a while especially if you are flashing different roms. theres a few ways to do this. you can run fix permissions in whatever recovery you are using on your nexus s, except stock recovery. or you can do it via terminal emulator on you phone. open the terminal emulator, type su(press enter) fix_permissions(press enter)

Hi Guys,
I am new in this forum although I am reading specific threads almost every day. I am currently using Endymion v2.2 and I am pretty happy form it. Previously I've tried some other ROMs but I think Endy is mine ROM.
In version 2.1 it was undervolted with -50 and it was working stable on my HTC Desire S. So when I've installed v2.2 from time to time I was UV it with -50. However after restart everytime it goes back to default state. So today my phone restarted incidently (happen about once per 1 or 2 days) and I've UV it with -50. After pressing Save and Activate permanently my phone freezed. No keys were working. After that it is restarting on every 20 mins. In fact it is alive for 1-5 mins, freezing for 15 mins and restarting itself. I've tried to boot it in recovery mode and deleted all types of cache (probably bad decission) but no change. I will be very thankfull if anyone have any ideas (Alternatevelly I could try to wipe and install v2.0 from scratch since it is the only one I have on the SD card)
Thanks a lot!
I know that probably this is not the best thread for this but forum rules do not allow me to post anything on Dev forums until I have 10 post or more.

Most probably since the problem begins when I've tried to do -50 in UV. But now according to OC/UV Beater2 UV is by default and OC is using the default setting which are comming from the ROM. I've revoke permissions to this application from Superuser but nothing changed
Any ideas how to swich off Undervolting/Overclocking?
Unfortunatelly I should be quite fast since I have usually 1-2 mins before next restart. (Today probably the phone restarted at least 20 times.)
I am also having my phone in the charger. I do know that I should not pull the battery in any case.
I have to travel so I will be back after about 3h. Since my phone is unuseful I will not be able to respond to this thread before I am getting back home.
Thanks to all for the help

Agreed, seems something wrong with of/iv beater. Please uninstall it completelly, by doing this (i assume you know how to use adb):
- reboot to recovery and connect USB cable
- adb remount
- delete the app from /data/app , don't quite recall the name, but its obvious once you see it
- delete /system/etc/init.d/98setvddconfig
- reboot
See if this helps.
Cheers

If you don't have time, the really important part is deleting the file in /system/etc/init.d

I've just installed Android SDK and JDK Will try to delete it on next restart probably after 10-15 mins or in worst case in next-next restart - about 30 mins. Will let you know as soon as I have some more info.
I was not quick enough in first attempt (since I had less than a min). I run ES File explorer and tried to find /system. By default it was on /sdcard and I do not know how to go to root folder and then to system (hope next time to have more time before freeze)
Btw now the phone is frozen quite funny because of back button press it is vibrating
Updated:
found this on Internet: menu->settings->root options-> check "Root Explorer" Will try it on next restart

Sorry, I missed something, flash this instead:
View attachment lowveld_restore_vdd.zip
Tell me if it solves the issue. I'll explain later...
Cheers
Sorry maybe a dumb question:S
But I think I will not have time to copy the file. Probably there is a way in recovery mode...I will google for this...
I installed a custom boot animation and now my phone won't boot up properly. The animation won't show during boot and basically after the galaxy sIII screen, nothing is shown. The phone seems to be started okay, I hear sounds and vibration when I press buttons, but the screen just is not showing anymore.
I'm trying to boot to recovery and use adp to either delete the bootanimation.zip or push a different version, but I get the device not found error.
PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks, but I finally got it figured out. Scarred the crap out of me for a minute there though!
I was able to run "adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media" and it works after reboot. I couldn't get it working in recovery, but was able to with the phone started like "normal".
Not sure what was wrong with the other version of the bootanimation to totally killed the screen though. The only thing I can think of is there was zip compression on. But I would have thought that wouldn't kill the entire screen like that! Dunno.
I am have execet same issue please help

Sorry, it's been so long I can barely remember this! I think what I did was pretty much as I described. I booted the phone up, waited for a little bit to make sure it was all the way started since I couldn't see the screen. And then plugged in the cable and performed the push command. It was pretty straight forward as long as you can ignore the fact that the screen wasn't displaying anything.
Had to flash the fireware

So my Debugging mode was off so I could not use adb push command, I had to do a complete firmware flash, that got my phone to work but lost all my data on the phone. but still a happy camper.
Thank you for prompt response, all your help it's much appreciated.
I had the same problem but with an ASUS memo pad hd7. I downloaded a bootanimation.zip that was the wrong orientation, so I unzipped it, rotated all the pictures rezipped and placed it back in /system/media/. Mistake! After that the device would not boot! At least that's what I thought until a quick google search led me here, thanks for your help! My situation was a little different, i'll explain my journey below in case it helps others with similar situations.
Installed minimal ADB and Fastboot from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269 . I already had the device drivers installed on my computer so I skipped that step. Luckily I had USB debugging selected, however, I had never used ADB and had not given it SU permissions on the tablet. I input the following code into adb:
adb shell
cd /system/media/
ls
This verified that the offending bootanimation.zip was in there. I then tried to remove the offending bootanimation.zip with this command
rm bootanimation.zip
It failed because system was mounted as Read Only and I could not change it because I did not have SU permissions so I hit the power button on my tablet to wake it up, blindly swiped to get through the lock screen, and typed this into ADB to request Super User permissions
su
I then blindly tapped near the middle of my screen. After a few tries I successfully hit the right spot at the right time and granted SU to ADB
Once that was done I remounted system as read write and deleted the offending file with this code:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system
rm bootanimation.zip
ls
After verifying that bootanimation.zip was gone, I rebooted the tablet and was greeted with success in the form of some generic Android boot animation.
Same thing with my Panasonic p11 and I have a password for SuperSU so I am stuck pls help
I would suggest flashing a backup from before the custom boot animation. Then taking more cautious steps the next time you try.
To avoid this kind of unpleasantness, whether for changing the boot animation or anything else, here's a few tips:
always root your phone
It's your phone, you should have access to everything, shouldn't you? That's like buying a new car and the dealer won't give you a key for the trunk.
always use a custom ROM
Stock ROMs are usually bloated with apps you don't need and can't uninstall. Also, stock ROMs often disable features and access either "for your own good" or to keep the interface simpler. Case in point, neither of the stock ROMs that came with my Galaxy S4 or my Atrtix HD allowed me to customize the LED notification light. Whatever defaults they picked, that's what I got. A flashing green light meant I received "something" (text or email). There are a variety of 3rd party ROMs out there ready to flash for a specific device, find one that you like.
How can I disable soft keys backlight without power saving? Is no longer in the settings of the Galaxy s6.
I don't believe theres a setting for it, I've looked and looked, I like to set it to 6 seconds but its nowhere to be found.
Yeah I think you need to root and install a custom Rom or xposed (if that's possible yet)
Please refer to my earlier post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60009456&postcount=12 and/or use the search function.
The ATT version has this setting under Display. It's weird that the other versions don't have that setting.
How can I run adb for this fix? Can some one help me to run adb..
The post above has instructions on how to to that
I just ran terminal emulator from my phone and entered "settings put system button_key_light 0" and they are disable for good.
Capacitive Lights Off
Two ways ,
1. The observe the power saving mode turns it off by default.
2. This message is from the user/developer @Averix in one of the S6 thread,
"That thread covers the ADB method. I wrote an app that doesn't require root to set the values to whatever you want from .5 - 10 seconds on, off/on all the time."
Galaxy Button Lights
Hope this helps
