Best android devices camera - Android General

this thread to show the openion of all android users about them camera and its unique criteria of them vaviorite.any ploaded picture of your faviorite device is welcomed.no special test and no offend to any company its only your openion to the smart mobiles you used...

i will start with my faviorite .. i loved htc cameras from the start.as i had my 1st htc device (htc evo 3d) just becuase its wonderful cam.it was 5mp only but had a very conventional resolution.and its 3d picture was a real chaleng.
for now i find htc one is one of the best. as the new era of cam technology started by them....
write about what you think in your device cam.

Well I've never had anything by HTC phones but think that my one x probably takes the best photos out of the phones that I've had. Pictures always come out really crisp and sharp unless I'm in really low light. So my vote would be for the one x

Yup I tried already many phones and in see that one x has still one of the best cams... Even s3/s4 aren't that good like all people are thinking... My opinion because of even some tests even my old HD2 and the DHD from my dad are making better pics then any Samsung phones until s3 and some LG phones so htc camera software is even in stock really good optimized )

I'm not much of a photographer myself, but, bizarrely, the camera spec of a phone is an important factor.
Throughout my years of buying phones, I have seen that Sony has proved themselves, in my eyes, as the best manufacturer of smartphone cameras.
Why?
My first REAL camera phone was the SE K800i, for the time, it was fantastic. I didn't find a phone with a better camera for a while after that.
Then I bought the SE Satio, 12MP at a time when most phones seemed to have 5MP or lower, its flash was incredible and its night pictures were incredible, it even produced better images than my dad's Nokia N8, another 12MP phone released at a later date.
The Xperia arc S was a downgrade in MP to the Satio, but its images were of similar quality.
I then got the Xperia T, which had an awesome 13MP camera.
My Xperia Z has a great camera, but it has one fault; Sony's camera software compresses the image too much.
Overall, I'd say that, at the moment, the Xperia Z/Galaxy S4 have the best cameras (They both use the same sensor).
Probably followed by the HTC One, which can sometimes have worse pictures in light conditions (Though generally better in dark conditions).
For those interested in camera-phones, I'd suggest looking into the yet to be announced Xperia i1, which has a 20.7MP sensor, and an ISO much, much, much, higher than that of the HTC One, theoretically meaning better pictures in low-light conditions.

droidit.... do you think the viper rom added more abilities to your device(htc onex) abilities???

Hey guys,
the oneX cam is pretty nice and there is a cool thread from @Shan89 about a glitch which is improving pictures @ night.
When you´re flashing viperX you can choose a camera mod which i think gives more menu options and the ability to save uncompressed jpgs...
correct me if i´m wrong...
the glitch is still working with this mod.
i also like camera fv5 because it supports custom exposure time or whatever its called in english...
you can create bizarre photos in the dark or do some light paintings...

I have never personally tried a Nokia phone but wondered how the Lumia with it's 42 mp camera stacked up against other phones. Don't know if that really makes a difference or not but would be really interested to find out. Hey bldy, yeah I think with all the extra options we get to tweak in the software has made a pretty big difference. I find that I can control a lot more of the variables when it comes to taking pictures. I still do have a standalone Sony cybershot for taking pictures if I know I'm going to be taking a lot of photos, but Ithink our cameras produce pictures about on par with that.

That reminds me, I need to update that ROM, but can't get the updater-script right.
My dad has had a few Nokia phones, his N8, for example had an 12MP camera which wasn't as good as my Satio (worse pictures in dark light, slight yellow tint in pictures), but compared to other phones, it was still great.
He now has a Nokia Lumia 820 and he hates it. It has an 8MP camera, dual LED flash, but it is simply horrid. Photos are too dark and saturated, and photos with a backlight are terrible. It is one of the worst camera phones I've used.
Nokia only seems to put great cameras onto it's flagship, because from what I have heard, the 920 has a great camera.
An annoying thing with Windows phones is the lack of options for the picture. You can't tweak individual settings for your pictures.

Bravia Engine can only function on devices with a locked bootloader, if you have an unlocked bootloader, the BE isn't working, and won't for anyone. Ever.
If you have a locked bootloader the BE will be the same on every ROM (Unless somebody ports a newer version).

[Q] Why is the camera so bad in the inspire

I made the switch just this past weekend to the Inspire and gave my iPhone 4 to my wife. I don't miss the iPhone except for its camera. Compared to the Inspires camera, the iPhone 4 camera is like a 20982340823 megapixel camera.
Please don't take this as a troll post or an Apple fanboy post, its not. I just wonder if its my phone, the inspire, or android in general that causes the absolutely awful pictures. The grain is horrific, and no matter how still I hold the camera, the shot blurs.
I'm not new to photography either, its a part-time hobby for me. Just really disappointed with the camera so far

I have read a few post claiming what you are, I personally have owned iphone 4 and compared with mine I definately can say its not a big difference if any, I dont have any grainy problems that some talk about. The pictures are real clear. Maybe go check out a demo model at att and take pic and see if it is any different.
I agree the Camera on this phone leaves something to be desired. I am hoping they will update this with an OTA. If I remember right HTC did something like that with the Incredibles Camera. My wife has an iPhone 4 and that is pretty much the benchmark by which all cellphone camera's are measured (N8 excluded of course). This camera seams to work OK if nothing is moving, but trying to get any picture of my 4 year old is impossible with the Inspire.

If you change the iso to 400 or so things tend to improve. Htc has never been known for their camera. It is passable.
Its because the iPhone 4 has a larger sensor in its camera. While the iPhone is only 5 megapixels, the larger sensor makes a very noticeable difference in quality so it is less grainy and takes better low light shots. An update to the Inspire can't fix the quality, it needs a bigger sensor.
I think the camera in the inspire 4g is great. However, i am comparing to my dell streak which sux. I feel more like im shooting with my hd2 now, which had an amazing camera
it may be an inaccurate observation on my part but it seems like after the camera focuses and i take a shot, the picture ends up being blurred just slightly. it's never as sharp as immediately after the auto focus.

Yes that's accurate. It definitely has a tendency to do that from what I've seen. One way to minimize that is to press and hold the camera/shutter button until the picture takes instead of waiting for it to focus and then tapping the button. Don't know if you already do that or not, but if you don't it might be worth a try. Hope it helps.
As someone else mentioned, it is the sensor that matters, not MP (as you know). Unfortunately, other than Nokia (and Apple, to a lesser extent) phone manufacturers seem to randomly pick an available sensor in the price/MP range they want for the camera, stick it in, and forget about it. Unfortunately this is an industry-trend, so I don't see anyone changing soon. Can't wait to see what Nokia does with some WP7 goodness in their hardware. *notatroll*

True, although they haven't had a good camera-centric phone since the K850.
I actually have had good experiences with my camera.. hmm...
I think the camera does a pretty good job. Does this have the same camera as the EVO? If so I saw some pics that the EVO took compared to iPhone 4 and they look pretty damn close.

Nokia 808 PureView Vs Galaxy S4 Vs Galaxy S3

hi friends. the topic says it all. but here is the catch.
i have to go on a trip. its my first time ever out of the country so i really need a great CAMERA PHONE.
i know 808 sweeps floor with Both S4 and S3 for its camera performance but i still need an idea from u guys, cause u guys are the best
i have owned S3 and its camera is great. but not a good low light performer. its THE GREATEST PHONE for sure. and S4 will not be available till end of this month.i really need to decide within like 2 days to go for any set.
are there any friends here who owned 808 and S3 together? cause i have never used 808 but every read only good about its camera.
pls suggest me. i will not go for 920 cause windows phone sucks! well, Symbian sucks ever worse but its camera is comparable to DSLRs so im asking just to confirm from u guys.
i expect good and sincere help cause i love xda
*EDIT* and one more question what can be the price of used 808 as i have no idea at all about its resale
thanks in advance for ur time and help

Haven't you answered your own question???
Questions should go to the proper forum section, but we have camera discussions here too.
With that said, not to leave you without an answer, the PureView 808 is obviously the best camera phone on the market. The good news about the GS4 is however that it does awesome good light photos which at 13MPs are good for digital zooming or later cutting which is usually a problem with phones (no optical zoom). The bad news is that, despite improving tremendously, absolute dark shots are still problematic, and if half your shots are taken during nights or very limited lights, the Lumia 920 is the one to choose. If 80% of your shots are taken in low but not dark conditions, average lights and ideal scenery, the GS4 is an excellent all-around performer for a phone.
But you can judge the quality for yourself over this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2213853
price of a used around 320-350$ for now

No, its not comparable to a DSLR, but its much better then the S3/S4 and all the other phones. If you want a good low light phone, go for the 808/920 or htc one.
But if you want to shoot REALLY NICE pictures, you should get a dslr.
For example the Sony Alpha 57: currently avaible for 440€ in Germany. The supplied objective is ok but you can improve the quality with an alternative one.
All the phones avaible ARE NOT WORTH COMPARING WITH A GOOD DSLR!

Technically, Olympus E-PL2 is not a DSLR. It's a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.
And "Micro Four Thirds" should have told you the size of the sensor. Compare this to a size of a typical APS-C sensor.
If I am looking to take photos, I would rather get a typical DSLR.
Matching 5D Mark III in photography? I would better ask the editor to get his eyes checked. 808 is neither good phone, not a good camera. It's much better than typical mobile camera, but can't be compared to a good DSLR. It even worse than a point n shoot like RX100.
I don't need photography lessons from blind test in GSMArena.
808 is comparable to my 5D mark III? Please. I'll advise you to stick with your current phone and get something like Canon 650D or 60D.

If 2 micron is ultrapilxel, what do you call a 5 micron? Elephant-pixel or dragon-pixel?
I wonder if you know that even a 6 year old phone like Nokia N95 had a bigger sensor and bigger pixel-size. In 2007 they had a phone with 1/2.5 inch sensor and 2.2 micron pixel pitch.
Don't remember anyone calling it ultrapixel!

ultrapixel is just a marketing term aka a name. is it so hard to understand that? HTC figured that it would be rather embarrasing to sell a flagship with only 4MP on board so they coined this term.
Its like apple coined the retina display term. theres nothing to do with retina there. its just a name.
And how big fat and heavy was that n95? 808 is best cameraphone out there but nokia coundnt sell it. people dont want fat phones anymore. not most people.
Seems like you don't want a dslr. If you want REALLY GOOD picture quality and that's all you care about you could still get a decent digital non-dlsr camera which is much smaller than a dslr. I mean you already got a decent phone anyways so why throw so much money on 808 that's got nothing but a camera? Better spend something like $350 on a decent camera with superb quality. That price range can already get you something much better than any smartphone camera's

Captain Obvious strikes back with vengeance.
i know it very clear 808 just cant compete with DSLRs but u should give the credit where it is due. 808 does compete with some of the low end DSLRs and i said LOW END!!
and 920 is only better than 808 in terms of steady videos cause of its OIS and thats it!
808 captures true colors and u can get the punchier colors while chossing vivid mode or increasing the contrast
i just wish, GOD just WWWIIIISSSSHHH that HTC had used some high quality and higher pixel count sensor in ONE! that would have been awesome!
ultra pixel of HTC ONE is like the 12MP sensor of N8 when it was introduced years ago! and then Nokia perfected that with 808. i was literally hoping a great phone from HTC this year at least, but alas... Ultrapixel should be evolved and it definitely would be, into something comparable to what Nokia did with 808!
now my current wish is Nokia choses to go Android and introduce Pureview Phase 3 phone with FHD screen and camera with double the performance of 808... (just a wish )

Camera auto mode is horrible

Is anyone experiencing this, I don't see many threads?
Tonight I did a camera comparison with a friends IPhone 6 and the IPhone 6 was far superior in every sense. Images from the Z3 generally seem grainy and lack detail and sharpness.
I see a few people have mentioned that the camera is better of you manually set the options. This isn't what a smartphone is for when you need to snap a quick shot, by the time you've done all that you've missed the moment.
I swapped my LG G3 (which also took better shots) for this and I'm really underwhelmed by the camera on the Z3, which ironically is its main selling point.
Can anyone suggest some third party camera apps which would perform better?
Also do you think Sony will fix this, i owned the original Z and can recall having some camera issues. I didn't think they would still be present 4 years on.
The Z3 camera was hyped up so much, I really can't see why. Great on paper, not so good in the real world.

I installed Pro Capture and it seems a lot better. Sony is doing half a job. You cannot supply excellent hardware and not take advantage of it with the software. It seems most people are impressed by the specs of the camera more than its ability to actually take a picture! I cannot believe how much hype surrounding this camera there was.
Have you tried the xposed module 'superiorauto 20mp'? which forces the SA mode to shoot at 20megapixels?

Poor Camera Results

My pictures are coming out flat, with very poor contrast and colour rendition. I've owned mainly Samsungs before, and their cameras, even lower in MP, have given excellent results. I was expecting something lot better with a 20MP camera, but the quality I'm getting is comparable to maybe a 5MP camera. I use the Superior Auto mode, with full 20MP resolution.
Anyone else disappointed with the camera as well?
I'm not disappointed with it but seems some people are. Have you looked in the General section? There's a thread for voicing your opinion on the cam: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2887635

I just talked about that few days ago...
I was comparing Note4 and Z3 and Note 4 kicked Z3s ass...
Z3 can take great photos outside when there's a lot of light but in lower light conditions photos are terrible...
You can always switch to manual shooting mode and set few things but you won't get nothing special...
That's the only thing I would like to see improved in next gen Xperia...
I'm absolutely satisfied with everything else..
OK, that and maybe X-pen, Sammy has S-pen so why shouldn't we have X-pen
It's amazing addon for many things (I'm using S-Pen to sign documents in PDF, without needing to print them out) and emailing them after signing...

The kind words are for you.
Enjoy your KNOX.
funky0308 thanks for your feedback. I feel exactly the same.. Z3 is a great device, EXCEPT for the camera. I've used Note, Note2, 3 AND 4, but never found much use for the Spen other than scribbling and drawing etc. in my free time. So I don't miss it at all. A 5.5" screen, however, would help tremendously.

I'm very happy with camera quality. I think people expect too much from it sometimes because they compare it to a stand alone camera.
It's a smartphone.... not a canon or Nikon camera
For everyday use its pretty damn good.
I don't know about G4 though so if you can find a comparison video or something online it might give you more info. I'm sure you'd be happy with either, but as a Z3 user I can tell you the camera is decent and if you know how to use it can get some damn good shots.
Good luck in your choice and don't rush it. Might have that phone for a while so get the right one for you

Thank you very much for answer ill think abot that
Anyone else?
honestly ,For the Camera go to G4 .
z3's camera IS good but g4 has a great camera.
FYI Im only talking about camera
g4 has a better camera. But has a heating problem because of snapdragon 810. And the battery life is not just as good as Z3 but way worse. I would go for Z3 however you can think of a different phone. Because Z3 is becoming a bit outdated.

G4 uses SD808, I think.
As for me Z3 is really good phone. Good battery, bright display, everything works fast and stable. Personally I would go for G4 mainy because it's never and has better specs. There are a lot of comparison and review videos in youtube. If you care about development, G4 has a littlebit better support in custom ROM's such as CM, and Z3 has mostly moddified stock ROM's. But for Z3 these ROM's feel better for me than CM.
Just don't rush to buy a phone that someone reccomends. Everyone has different needs and taste
