[Q] building iOS apps on a windows computer - General Questions and Answers

Is it possible to build iOS apps on a PC? If so, how? Also, I have a old 3GS that was giving to me, will this be good enough to test on?

You can't, Xcode are avaitable only for OS X. But check OSx86 Project.

OSx86 also works. But it's recommended that you should buy a MAC instead of OSx86 :good:

Custom ubuntu for android phones

As most of you might know it is possible to install ubuntu on phones like the nexus one and the X10. But ubuntu isn' t really usefull in the way it is now (I mean that it isn't usefull on phones). So I thought it should be possible to customize ubuntu for phones so it becomes more touchfriendly, faster etc. (like a UI similar to the netbook version of Ubuntu, with lxde as desktop environment and replacing big programs which use a lot of memory for lighter alternatives). Than ubuntu might actually become really usefull for phones.
What do you guys think? And is there anyone who would like to help creating this customized ubuntu-version?

I think that would be awesome! I'm not really a developer but I'm great at beta testing!

Are you asking members to help you in creating this OS?
Or are you asking if someone would create this OS?
Helping to create although I'm new to this I think it is interesting to learn about. It's not like I'm new to ubuntu and stuff, but I'm new to customizing it for phones.

I would love this for the incredible. 10.10 comes out on October the 10th including the ARM version so I don't know if you want to wait for that plus I don't know what kernels support loop devices. Other problems are drivers and the touch input/onscreen keyboard.
Anything to untether us from Google!
What's wrong with just removing GNOME and installng LXDE? Lol it's not really that hard if you know how to use aptitude.
Ok since xrecovery had been released, we can pick up the work again. we need to figure out how we can make it flashable for xrecovery i think

ubuntu phone

So, would it be possible for us to have some devs porting a building ubuntu phone for the GS3 on verizon?
I don't think the source code has been released by Canonical yet so it is a no for now.
i am pretty much sure ubuntu would come for gs3...if not they will build it and release it ..its still in development stage
This is totally within the realm of possibilities, and I for one am stoked. It's still in development, but as I understand it, they are adding support for android drivers, so if hardware works with android, it will work with ubuntu.
Ubuntu
Not sure if you are talking natively or running as an "app".
But you can already run Ubuntu on your SGS3.
It runs as an "app", meaning that it still uses the Android OS as the Hypervisor and you"remote" into the Ubuntu session.
Works pretty well though.
But not an Ubuntu phone.

I'm pretty sure they are adding android hardware support to the actual mobile OS, the idea being able to run Ubuntu with a stock image. If that's not the case, I'm selling my GS3 for the Ubuntu phone, don't care if its a downgrade the new mobile platform seems to one up android conventionality.

This has been an intriguing development. As a Linux user, the only really integration that may be possible will be incredible. Can't wait to see this on the GS3!

i wonder how that would be like!
It probably won't come for any CDMA phones any time soon. Verizon is all CDMA. Ubuntu phone OS won't officially support CDMA I don't believe.

I'm curious as to whether or not this could be run in Android much like desktop Ubuntu can be run in an emulator for android. It would certainly be a quick fix for mobile data.

iPhone apps on android phone

Hello,
I was searching through the other topics, and the only thing I can find is how to make your phone look like and iPhone interface.
My friends have iPhones and they want me to get Find My Friends, but the Android version is not the same as the iPhone version which means no Find My Friends...
I was wondering if there was some way to emulate the iPhone on an android phone so I can use that app.
I really mean emulate as in an emulation app (I will be rooted soon if that is a requirement), and NOT use a ROM that will turn my phone into an iPhone.
I'm a bit of a n00b at this kind of stuff, so please be gentle with me lol.

i think find my friends apps is exclusive only for iPhone its hard to emulate the apps of idevices.

I figured that. I've not been able to find anything on the web about this type of stuff, so I figured it would be a bit of a nightmare.

Iphone and Android App Developers
Find My Friends app is created only for iPhones. According to me, it is very difficult to emulate the iPhone on an Android phone as they both are supported by completely different platforms.
Welcome. Rather, it is impossible to run an application from iPhone to Android and vice versa. You can look but they have a completely different code and I doubt that anyone did. But we live in such times, so good luck.

Samsung Vs Android

Are you Pro Samsung, or are you Pro Android. I ask this question, because of Samsung's future plans with their Tizen OS. I'm sure everybody knows about this OS. But I'm not sure any of use fully understand what Samsung is going to be doing with it. And what it will mean for Android running on their devices in the future... I don't really see this OS being a threat to Android. But with Samsung's notable market share in the Android landscape, and uninformed consumers. Can it get a strong hold on some of Androids market share.

No it won't android has been out for a while and fixed nearly every bug and tweaked it and made it faster and tastier I think it would be a while until Tizen could actually go head to head with android and ios.

As I said I would be sometime till this OS to be the first, and no doubt Samsung will take it to the top

I'd love to have a phone with "easy" hardware, on which one could install Android, Tizen or Ubuntu at will, so one can try and choose the one wich fits better his own needs.
I'm not really interested in Tizen... I kind of wanted to see where people stand on the issue... Samsung has been the top Android OEM, but are we for Android, and just choose Samsung devices, or are we with Samsung, that just so happens to be using Android... And when the time comes, will we stick with one, or the other, Samsung with Tizen, or Android... I kind of also like to see what people think of Tizen... I'm not really sure what to think of the OS. I'll be staying with Android, I know that much...

Android. Samsung is just good at hardware, but there are plenty of good alternatives.

More afraid of Samsung staying with Android but going the way of Amazon. They want the money from the ecosystem. Wouldn't be surprised if in the future you have to pick a kindle phone, Samsung phone, or Google phone depending on where you want your content and apps to come from. Google Play subscriptions / apps? Amazon subscriptions / apps? Samsung subscriptions / apps? etc
That's why we have XDA

Remember the viability of the OS is almost totally dependant on the catalog of apps. BlackBerry OS 7 & 10 were very functional and secure OS'es but lost their appeal in the market because of the lack of apps. The same could be said for Windows Phone 8 which is much easier to control on the corporate level than either iOS or Android. But IT groups are too scared to give out the phones due to app envy complaints. Tizen could be the second coming but if it doesn't have a catalogue of a 100k apps day one it won't go anywhere.

An easier way to Dual-boot Windows? Seriously?

So I was browsing through the internet looking for a way t dual-boot my android with Windows.
I saw a blog article mentioning about a software called "Change My Software X Edition" -- Where X is the windows version to be installes
Can somebody confirm this is not fake? and not going to break our devices?

Alriiiiiiight but this seems to be slow :|
We need an ARM build for Windows :/
First of all, the desktop version of Windows is not compatible with ARM architecture. Emulating is the only way left.
