So, I have this Transformer Pad TF300TG (it has about 3 weeks now) and since I've first used it, I've noticed that the screen is way too sensitive. Just hoovering your finger above the screen may trigger a touch, without actually touching it. It is really annoying at times. Below there's a video showing the issue. I know this is not right, since it's not my first touchscreen device (I had 2 iPod Touch, Optimus 2X and now an iPad and Nexus 4) where none ever presented any kind of weird issues like this one on the digitizer.
What I'd like to know is, first of all, is this a issue or a "feature" in this tablet? Is there any way I can reduce the sensivity trough a hidden configuration menu or app (no root here, sorry)? Or should I get it serviced?

You must have force fields around your fingers!
On all my other devices I have to touch the screen considerably to trigger a touch, except the TF300, where it triggers around 1mm apart from the screen.
At the very least you have a really cool picture for it, aye? I can't reproduce this issue on mine, but it could be a kernel thing (unlikely, though). You're not in a humid environment/sweating, are you? It just looks like there's something allowing current from your finger to the screen.

Thank you. A good camera (and manual focus) makes any noob picture look good!
And I'm not sweaty or in a humid environment. Pretty standard here. I think it's a firmware issue (very likely can be fixed only with a replacement), not a OS thing.
Jup same here, it reacts when you hold your finger a mm above the screen, which sometimes cause "ghost touches" for me

Yes, it's really annoying. I gave this tablet to my father (I use an iPad), he's always mistouching things. Asus had so much hype about "quality", and that's what you get, a "ghost touch" machine. They didn't even bother answering my support request. Sad.

I think some people just have greater conductivity through there skin. I know some people who it happens to and some that don't. And to the person who said ghost touches a sensitive capacitive screen is much different that those.

Why would they charge it? It's an unmodified tablet and it's defective. We do get a lot of mistouches because of this issue and it's really annoying. Also, the battery is delivering subpar performance. If I knew all of this quality issues beforehand I would have spent my money on another iPad Mini (virtually the same price for the 16gb model). Also, the performance has been substandard, that's not what I expected from a quad-core tablet.

My bad I had the assumption it was unlocked. It can deliver excellent performance bit to unlock the potential. You need to unlock and flash a rom like Cromi and a kernel. But all that is at your own discretion.

I had my time messing with ROMS and I no longer do it (I did in my previous phone, LG Optimus 2X). Usually it's a lot of work to get an unstable system. And to get that extra performance usually means overclocking. The battery is not god as is, can you imagine overclocked?

I hover around here because I like to see what's going on. Also, it's here most hardware related problems are reported, so it's a good resource. Maybe when the warranty goes away I do indeed replace the ROM, since it's been reported they do not cover warranty on modified products.

It's hit or miss. Sometimes they do still honor the hardware warranty on an unlocked device its not unheard of. But there is a chance they won't.

I think they will definitely honor it if something really bad happened and they can't read the flash or boot the device, like a fried motherboard. There's no way they can tell if it was locked or not.
On one hand, I think it's not fair to completely void the warranty of unlocked devices, but we have to bear in mind that a lot of people dangerously overclock their devices (among other modifications). I do believe that they do this because a lot of people with modified devices complain due to software issues (without realizing it). It's complicated.

Yes, there's a chance of that happening. But the worse part is that it may take like a month or so to get a new or repaired unit. I'm hesitant to sending it in because of that. Everything around here is slow.

I'm wondering the same thing. For instance the keyboard seems to have trouble with registering a keypress on the same key that just worked fine the press before. Granted I just got the phone yesterday and I'm in my learning curve, and it's still stock. Lovin my ns4g with no bloat either way ;-)

I just posted about this. Didn't seem as bad until I rooted the phone, but that was within about three hours of getting it. It's annoying as hell, right? My thread is in the General Forum. ugh.
The screen is definitely not as sensitive as HTC screens. And I agree, it's annoying.
My screen was to sensitive before update but saying HTC has more sensitivity touch screens I beg to differ

I know the feeling, mine seems to be solely limited to the pre-call dialer. On the dialer it works like a 15 year old palm pilot. Everything else is hyper sensitive. It works fine when in a call.

Is there a setting to change the touchscreen sensitivity on the Nexus S?
I have noticed when the screen is hot it doesn't register keys pressed, I always end up hitting the "." Its quite annoying but j do however love the phone

Mine falls into the "So sensative that it registers a touch when I hover my finger over it".

Yep that is true, sometimes it depends of the ROM or Kernel you have.
Hello, fellow Nexus S owners. I am resurrecting the thread because I found myself in a similar situation.
But first some history and details - I own a I9023 handset and have been using stock ROM since it came out (JZO54K). Couple of days ago I noticed that the lower part of the screen (the line right above the hardware buttons) is less responsive and sometimes even unresponsive. This makes it really annoying when trying to call somebody and nothing happens when I try to launch the dialer. The same behavior is observed throughout the whole row this includes even applications button. When texting the same things happens.
At first I thought that this could be due to me installing a "Temple Run" kind of game, but I wiped it, rebooted and the problem remains.
What do you think? Could this be a hardware problem or software one?
Your digitizer might be dying.
It's also known that while charging the phone with the wrong charger the screen goes crazy, but then, unplugging the phone will usually solve the issue.

Luckily the device is still under warranty so I will take it to my vendor for repair. Maybe then I will have some info on what's happening.
I had a similar problem a while back when my battery started to die. I've never experienced any touch screen wackiness caused by third-party chargers, but this seemed to be a comparable issue albeit in the opposite direction. So in addition to my battery losing charge real quick touches wouldn't register in the bottom half of the screen.
I really can't take the quality control issues any more. I think I am going to try and get a Sensation. I really love the phone, I just can't take the battery over heats, and the screen bleed, and the horrible battery life. I know there will be an impending Gingerbread update that will hopefully fix 2/3 main gripes I have with the phone, but it has still left a bad taste in my mouth. I know that HTC never has this bad of a problem with their phones. I think I am going to try and get a replacement for the Sensation through T-Mobile. If I can't I will deal with warranty replacements until I get a good G2x.
Anyone else starting to feel this conclusion?
I am getting a warranty replacement, and that will be the determining factor for my decision.
Good luck!

Makes the bleed look normal at least until I play a movie or something. Other than that I'm happy. Good luck if you go for the sensation.

For me its not just screen bleed, its the overheating issue as well, and the poor battery life(yes even with out the app).

It doesn't matter that you have had your apps since the G2. Apps will act differently from device to device. For instance. I have always had the NFL Mobile app and when I put it on my G2X, it was causing it to overheat and was killing the battery big time. It would drop 10% ever 15 minutes while at idle. The very second I deleted the app, everything went back to normal.

Won't hear any flack from me. I am getting the Sensation as well but I don't know if I am going to give it to my wife or give her the G2X. Either way, which ever one I decide on is hitting the bricks once the Hercules gets here. I already purchased the Sensation and returned it the same day due to over heating, freezing and reboots. Seems like every phone now adays ships with bugs and it's like playing a lottery in order to get a bug free one. Looking over in the Sensation forum isn't to promising considering all of it's own problems.
O well. I'll wait until the Sensation gets released from T-Mobile so I can return it as many times I need to like I did with my G2X. I had to return 3 in order to get a perfect device with absolutely no bugs. I don't settle for bugs on my phone and I wouldn't expect anyone else too.

Apps certainly do have a lot to do with the rebooting issues that some people are having. My phone has only rebooted maybe once and it was because of an app. Removed the app and no more rebooting. Replacing the phone will do nothing if you continue to use it the same way and don't do any actual troubleshooting yourself.

Not sure which LED notification app you're using but the one I'm using hasn't caused me any reboots or battery drain (could just be my device but I'm not sure). It's called LG 2x/Black Notifications, made to be used both for the G2x and O2x
Whenever I turn on my screen, I see lines or a fuzzy gray box flashing across my screen. They go away in less than a second, but I am afraid that my screen is broken. This also happened on my first charge, so I was wondering if the cause could be my battery which I bought on ebay (samsung 1500mah). Also, my new phone almost never connects to 4g even though my old one got full bars.
Please help, I googled my problem and came up with nothing. I still have my first phone, could I send back the same phone they sent me in the box?
Thank you.
What you see on your screen is apparently common for other charge owners myself included. Saw it mentioned as screen "static"in a thread on here somewhere which it can look like sometimes. I don't think it's been associated with any screen issues so I wouldn't trip on it too hard over it. I'll take that quirky behavior with the screen quality!

I have no experience with that particular device, but any time there are actual non-binary hardware issues (screen flickering as opposed to, say, simple hard reboot) I get concerned that it's going to be a quagmire rather than a simple fix. Are you still under warranty? Unless others have had similar issues (which should be subject to a Google search) I would say a) replace the batter or b) contact the manufacturer. Sorry for the lack of insight.
By flickering do you mean getting a jagged black screen around the edges,a second before it dies? (I have this problem on my mango, still looking for the reason. )

Its just the whole screen flickering. My guess is that my battery calculation is off or something thinking there's more/less battery than what really is there.

this issue is becoming a showstopper for me
its like...70% accuracy or less
either it will have a phantom swipe to left or down for me, which will either delete the last word or make my keyboard disappear
i didnt have any of these issues with my N5. I have my N5 right beside me too and i type the exact same speed and its 100% accurate
something is totally off with the OPO touchscreen and i REALLY hope its a software related issue..

SwiftKey only helps the issue because it is better than Google keyboard at correcting errors when you type. The screen still had the same issue.
Surely hope this is a kernel driver issue that can be fixed. It has been noted by many people and apparently they are working on it or it has been at least acknowledged. I would be surprised if they we would let these phones go out faulty like this without knowing there was a resolution that could be reached....

Guys, please help us all out and vote on this issue in JIRA to make it as visible as possible to the CM devs. Create a JIRA account, and then on the right, Vote for the issue and then watch it as well. Also, if you can, comment on it too.

There are a LOT of people complaining about this issue, and many of us are nervously waiting to find out if it's a hardware or software issue. I'm personally hoping it's a kernel fix that needs to be done on CM's side, or it's something that can be fixed with a firmware update from JDI.
BTW - for more visibility , I found this official JIRA ticket for the issue:
https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-55
I hope it gets more exposure. I'm surprised more people haven't complained about this because it's awful.
It's really the only major issue for me though, everything about the phone has been pretty great
*EDIT
oh lol, looks like someone beat me to it haha
I am actually relieved to see other people experiencing this. I use Swiftkey almost exclusively, installed it first thing, and I thought they must have done something, because I have had to focus on slowing down how quickly I type. I am bummed to know it's my phone but relieved to know it's not just me.

It's being fixed in an update, it's a bug in the Kernel that is going to be fixed.

No one said its a kernel issue on JIRA. I was the one who posted the issue first on XDA and someone replied to me and took the initiative to put it on JIRA. I've been following this from day 1, and the CM devs said they're looking into it. Never said if it will be fixed or not. We can only hope.
Also please notice the CM devs may have accidentally merged two issues into BACON-55. Please only talk on BACON-55 if your issue is related to fast typing and the multitouch issues.
