Since last week a small black line started appearing on my screen. It was small last week but now it extends end to end horizontally. It gew day by day. I believe these are dead pixels. Apart from this line, there are small black pixels wlsewhere on my screen also.
My question is what are these & why have they appeared? As I remember these appeared after the phone fell from my hand last week.
Secondly, are there any service centers in Noida/Delhi (India), now that Motorola has stopped operating in Asia?

Do not worry.
It will be alright in few weeks.
I faced the exact same issue.
My phone fell on the ground and there were lot of black dots, a week later those dots were spreading horizontally.
Then later the phone "healed itself"...
The thing is its LCD right, the liquid again flows back in. That's what I think what happened.
So don't be tempted to replace the screen.
Play lot of games, like temple run, fruit ninja, etc...
(but don't rub the screen too hard to break it) Its going to be fine.... :angel: :angel:
Hi I had the same problem 2 months back as my son dropped the phone on the ground. The black lines kept spreading horizontally. I didn't do any repair, but I noticed a strange thing that if I use the phone continuously, as the phone gets heated up lines slowly started disappear. It took almost one month for the line to completely disappear. So don't worry have patience

I don't know if it's a typical Android phone feature or something unique to the Atrix 2, but I did see other threads about how dead pixels eventually revive after usage. It's funny at the same time 'cause it's like the phone can 'heal' itself lol.

happened to me too.......i panicked and got my screen replaced (coz i've never dropped my phone)
I drop my phone too and blue and black pixel appeared..so i hand itchy and went to rub the LCD and u got worst. After leaving it alone for some time, it slowly healed itself.

Keep it cool Bro...
that'll heal on its own, For a quick recovery there are apps on PlayStore. Install "Dead Pixel Detect and Fix" from play store, run it 3-4 times a day for 30 minutes. You'll see the dead pixels reducing at a faster rate.

What is the science behind this method? Why will this work?
I have no idea. I was extremely skeptical when I first tried it, and i was really surprised it worked. If you decide to do it, just make sure there isnt a chance moisture will get in the bag. Other people have also met success through this

I have 2 fairly large black spots on my screen. I'm going to try to detect and fix pixel app but I doubt it will work. Has anybody else tried the freezer method?
IF you guys do the freezer method, after taking out your phone from the freezer, you will probably have to dry it off constantly for about 10 minutes due to condensation. Then when its totally dry you can put your battery, sim, sd card etc in.

Yes i have tried kept in under freezer air tight under foil and after one hour taking outside the frezer all black lines were gone in one night i kept onehhour in open because it feelt little wet forme untill the phone is fully dried do not insert battery
Anyone has photos of these black lines, dots? Any before and after pics after doing the freeze method?
My phone, never dropped, absued or roughly used ever! suddenly had a finger tip size round black spot and and remained so since 7 months now Motorola support declined to honor the warranty. Its difficult to know who calls as the location of the spot is top left.
Don't worry bro keep your phone in an air tight plastic bag and put it in freezer for 3 days . Your problem will be solved . I was also having same problem . But after this method now every thing is fine.

Yesterday dropped my Atrix 2 twice in quick succession, its not a common thing that I drop my phone. Today morning when I check my phone , I found lot of black lines in middle of the screen.
Did know about this thread and the refrigerator method so have packed my phone in a plastic bag, put that bag in another bag having rice and put whole pack inside freezer.
Will check the results in the evening.

Wow! This refrigerator therapy is really magical.
Just took out my phone out of the freezer and turned it on after drying it out. TO my surprise all the black lines have gone
Atleast 25-35% area of the screen was affected by those black lines earlier but now when I checked a white page on the screen, there is not a single black dot on the screen. Who is finder/inventor of this therapy? want to thank him deeply from heart and to all others also who tried it our and posted about it in this thread. :good:

Guys, been hanging out here long time now. First incident with about 6 month old captivate. I dropped a glass of water on my captivate yesterday. I immediately removed and took out the battery and wiped it dry. Did not see much of seeped in water so did not do the rice method. Turned on Wi-fi this morning and it says "unable to start wifi". Same with bluetooth.
Call,sms, camera everything works fine. At work, so blew dry the phone and also have kept it next to a warm laptop exhaust. Should I dismantle the phone and try to dry the swb23 chip (wifi/bt) ?
Please help guys !

You can't see the water that got inside. Would have been better to do the rice method before switching it back on but you should do it now nonetheless. Just be warned, you may have cooked the WiFi chip already.
Are the moisture indicators clear? If so, you should send it for warranty replacement. If not, then you can resort to opening it up, wiping the traces, etc.

uggg...may be too late. If you get a significant amount of liquid on or in your phone the worst thing you can do is turn it on.
You should have:
1. immediately removed battery and placed on a paper towel.
2. immediately place phone in a bag of rice for a minimum 24 hours if not 48 before ever powering back on.
Still its worth a try....remove battery and leave in rice for 24 hours....try again....maybe it didn't fry anything when you powered it on...but you definitely need to finish getting the moisture out of the inside via the rice absorption.
I had my old tilt in a pocket submerged in a swimming pool for a good 15 minutes before realizing my blunder. When i realizing it i didn't try to turn it back on. Left it in rice for 48 hours and everything work fine (luckily the phone was powered of when i got in the pool so that probably helped avoid anything frying).
Haha, I once accidently dropped my old Samsung Epix in a bucket of water and it still booted up and worked but most of the features are dead but screen and all still works. It looked like it was wrecked. I got it replaced under my insurance which is a good thing.

Thanks guys, I have put my phone in a bowl of rice hoping it will get cured.
If not, will ATT not service my phone under warranty ? I read somewhere that replacing the wifi/bt chip costs $70 with ATT. Has anyone done this here ?

How do I check for the moisture indicator ? Any easy steps ?
It is the white (or not so white anymore) square in the battery compartment.

i know i thought it as funny haven't seen that episode in a long time...almost as good as towlie
i am just always surprised to see the posts where someone gets there phone wet (washed in laundry, dropped in toilet, spilled significant amount of liquid on it) and the first thing they did was tried to turn it back on almost immediately.
btw if your looking at the moisture indicators for warranty purposes its quite possible you have to completely open the shell. Usually they have one visible without taking the phone apart but its not uncommon to have a secondary marker inside the phone where it would be harder for someone to tamper with. Can anyone confirm where all the cappys markers are?
Been a while since I had mine apart but I don't recall seeing one inside.

wasn't sure....my Tilt2 had one in the battery compartment and one on the motherboard that could only be seen by opening the casing
My Atrix2 flew from my hand and fell flat on its face onto the tiled floor, from about 8 feet height. The phone appeared to be fine, but I felt roughly about 2% its pixels became dead. The phone was fine otherwise but the dead pixels were plain irritating. Didn't have time to visit Moto service. Guess what, on their own the pixels are becoming alive, which was predominant today evening. I think, about 1000 of those pixels are still dead. Those of you who are knowledgeable on LCDs please explain this self curing mechanism. Am I lucky? For info, phone runs on stock ICS and screen is ON for about 2 hours a day.

Thanks for sharing. But, I live in Bangalore, India, where it is hot nowadays. There has to be another reason.
The past two weeks I was reading a lot of pdf docs on the mobile. Is it that the prolonged voltages to the pixels brought them back ? Happy anyway.
maybe if anyone has this problem shall try to completely seal the phone and put it in the freezer,,,, then tell us the results.

That's a good one! Removed the battery and kept the phone inside the freezer for about 4 hours. Then dried it under a fan for 5 hours. Switched on in the morning. Voila, hardly about 200 pixels at still dead. Will try to bring all back to life in the evening. Thanks a lot.

Hey, sorry I just saw this.
Are these Pixels dead, or simply stuck. A dead pixel is black, and never on, a stuck pixel is locked to one color. Stuck pixels are common, and actually a certain number per screen are allowed to slip through in manufacturing, but if you have a bright one, it is really annoying. (trust me, I know, mine has a bright green one in the lower right since I got it.)
Stuck pixels can sometimes be cured just by time, and more commonly by flashing multiple colors rapidly in the problem area. There are many apps for this in the play store. They don't always heal, but it is quite common, unless you are me, then they never do.
Dead pixels probably do not heal under normal circumstances, however yours were caused by the shock of being dropped, which could have just disrupted some of the stuff in the screen, and potentially they could self heal.

Thanks for the info. I had lot of black pixels (in clusters) scattered all over the screen. The flashing screen apps could not make any impact. That idea of keeping the phone in freezer really worked. After three brief visits into the freezer, only about 90 black pixels on 6mm, 2mm & 1mm long lines remain. Week end may see the end of these too. I owe this to XDA.
BTW, only today measured the screen size, to know the count. It is a rectangle of 96mm x 54mm; 10 pixels per mm.
And the good thing it heals for ever - I hope so - it's been about 6 months since the screen heal it self, and since I watching it when the device over heat from 4G usage, and still okay, lol

Wanted to report that ALL those dead pixels are alive now, after the phone spent about 10 hours inside the freezer yesterday night.
So, folks, those of you with dead pixels on the LCD screens can try the freezer method proposed by abd-hhh, before visiting the service center, if you don't have time or are out of warranty. I hope the dead pixels don't appear again. Here's hoping for the best :good:

Hi. I've tried your way to restore those dead pixel. In first time try, those dead pixel seem cured a little bit, but then it becoming back as before where those dead pixel reappear again. So, i tried one more time, but only 4 hours in fridge (not in cold storage), the dead pixel come to alive, but then still turn to dead... I just wonder, what temp of your fridge when you put your atrix 2? Did you wrap it closely tight? I want to try above then 4 hours, but i just afraid my phone will really 'dead' totally. Can you give your steps how you doing it?

When I was using the cliq xt in some 2.1 roms there were dead pixels but when we moved to gingerbread it was fixed. Dont know what happen

Wrap with some paper then remove the battery and kept the phone inside the freezer for about 9 hours. Dry it with some tissue then switch on the phone. All dead pixel is gone (before is 4 hour in freezer about some dead pixel left after that the dead pixel spread back)

A relatively minor drop, with no physical damage noticeable, has caused some pixels to go black/colors. However, I noticed that move sometimes! Like, one morning I woke up and found the pixels that used to cover a certain notification on my home screen had shifted over so I could see the notification!
I tried applying pressure and noticed that I could sort of make the dead area get bigger, then let go and the edges would sort of return to the earlier size. It almost seems like the LCD has too much pressure being applied and that's what is preventing those pixels from working. That's why I think the freezer trick works- the temperature changes cause the metal and silicon to expand and contract, hopefully returning the screen to its original position from the factory!
Here's my problem though- I don't have a Motorola Atrix. I found this thread doing a search. I have an HTC One X (sprint version, EVO LTE), which means the battery is built in. Should I be concerned that putting the phone w/battery into the freezer is a bad idea? I'm guessing due to condensation?
Perhaps it is worth dismantling the phone to remove the battery? What do you guys think? I tried to find reference of people doing this with other non-removable battery phones (cough* iphone *cough) but couldn't find much on that topic.

It's should work on any device with lcd screen.. But with battery inside...., I can't gift any word on that...
Btw.., If u wrapped any puff-up battery and put into freezer it will back to normal shape and still can be use normally...
Hey guys. So I know a few things about this phone and have been taking pretty good care of it...only two drops from about three feet away from the ground. However, I dropped it in the toilet today. Now, I put it in rice for two hours and then got it out. I tried to turn the thing on, and it succeeded. The bad thing is, when I turned it on, before my boot animation ended, the screen flickered and turned off, and that's when I pulled the battery out of my phone and continued to leave it in rice as I type this right now. Is my phone busted permanently, or is there some hope?
You should have left it to dry like 24 hrs or more. You might have fried it. Let it sit at least over night and keep your fingers crossed.

Does the fact that a rice grain being in the headphone jack have to do anything with my phone screen flickering? I'm sorry, I'm being paranoid right now, but I'm just desperate to get any info I can to fix my phone up...I need it tomorrow....

I got a friend who dropped his phone in the water once. He did the rice trick but waited for more than 24 hours before attempting the first boot.
Now his phone works great except for battery issues. He has the Galaxy Nexus, so he can't change the battery easily. He'll just wait and buy a new phone someday. He just has to keep a charger near!

Well I tried this morning, the screen first started to go sort of whitish during the boot animation. Then, the screen returned to normal but remained unresponsive to my touch...I'm leaving it to dry more because I guessed that water was still near the screen, causing it to be unresponsive.
I've done this exact thing and the phone from it, mostly. I had constant signal issues afterwards and got rid of it.
The rice does seem to work, but.. you're supposed to take the battery out immediately and put it all in the rice to dry. 2 hours isn't going to cut it.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but, sounds like its toast.. you can try though. Continuing to take it out of the rice and turning it off/on wont help.

You should have taken it apart and left it in the rice for a couple days as soon as it got wet. Now it really doesn't stand much of a chance. You screwed up bro.

Agh...well I didn't have anything like a screwdriver available. Oh well, time to get a new phone.
Hi guys. Today I made the mistake of dropping my AT&T LG G2 D800 into the toilet.
I promptly removed the phone from the toilet, it was submerged for about 2-3 seconds. The phone stayed on for a few seconds but then froze and powered off. I disassembled it as quickly as possible (accidentally cracking the back cover in the process), and put the disassembled pieces in a large container of rice.
I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions, and was also wondering how the battery can be completely removed.
I've also taken a photo of what looks like some sort of corrosion/damage on the logic board - if it helps. Otherwise, I don't see anything that looks damaged electronically anywhere else on the phone.
Any ideas or assistance would be appreciated, thank you!
First off, I'm sorry to hear about your loss I once gave my sister her first smartphone and she dropped it in the toilet as well good thing it wasn't a G2. The battery is hard to remove due to its design. They utilized all the space they could, so you have to remove some parts from the phone to be able to pull out the battery. Keep it in rice for a few days, reassemble and try your luck. Put the rest of the device in rice too, to ensure that all water has been drained.

Dropped in a basin of water
It's my usual practice to bring with me my g2 in the bathroom. I dropped it, I dont know how, in a basin of water, a little fortunate than the toilet bowl. I was able to touch the screen coz I want to turn it off. But it just suddenly did not work. So, I gave up and left it in sunlight in the living room. The next day I tried to turn it on. Led turned on then dead again. I gave up again and just left it somewhere. After two days, I, out of habit, took it where I left it and turned it on. Viola! It turned on! What I did, I turned it off and charged it full. Now, to make sure, I put it inside our rice dispenser. I'll try to turn it on again tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Your best bet friend, is or was to turn off immediately and tear it down pull battery and hit with a dry chem spray heavily. Well not too heavy but then after that hair dry. Rice works in time but not many people will tell you rice can leave a starch film inside of your internals leaving you in a bad way if ever it was heated to liquify the starch. It will coat the internals and youll never get it working again. Though rare. It happens. Try to get a can of water erase. Or canned evaporater. I use it on repairs and have had many positive outcomes. When pulling battery on the devices especially lg be careful of the older nexus 4 and older devices as their internal battery flex terminals with pull right out.

The thing is, d802's battery is not removable and I dont have the tools to remove the back cover. No service center here too. Luckily, my mighty G2 is working perfectly now.
All - My S3 got wet (they really aren't supposed to be put near or under water (though I have heard some do ok but mine didn't)) and it went into a constant bootloop. Waited a while and it was still rebooting constantly. (waited even weeks!)
I am pretty sure water got underneath the connections for the two buttons or maybe on the connector itself which made it short which sent a signal that both buttons were being pressed which is how you would get it to reboot.
Fix - I purchased the triangular screwdriver needed to open the case off of Ebay. I opened the case and took it apart and let it air out. I also put some rubbing alcohol on the button connectors in hopes of getting as much of the water gone as possible. See YouTube for instructions. Pretty easy to do.
Good news is that the watch works again. No more bootloop.
I also decided to purchase the button ribbon part from Samsung parts: Samsung Gear S3 frontier (SM-R760) Volume flex cable GH59-14696A. I might replace it.
Moral of the story is keep the S3 away from water!
Were you able to get your button to be responsive? I got thrown in the pool yesterday and mine was stuck in the boot loop, put it in rice and now it works but neither button will work at all. Ordered a tritip screwdriver to open it up and dry it out but was wondering if you ever got it back to 100%

It works fine. The buttons are back to normal.
The only issue I have is that when I rotate the bezel, the sensors aren't working. Not sure where the problem is located. I started a different thread in hopes of someone having an idea but nothing yet.
90% working which I can live with just fine.
Open it up (carefully) and let it air dry. I used some rubbing alcohol on the buttons. Air and time are probably the most important part of the endeavor.
I also ordered a part (GH59-14697A) in case the buttons go bad. ($9) I might change the button sensor some day.

Got my tool kit in today, no luck reviving my watch. I had it in rice for the last two days and I noticed it disconnected from my phone pretty quickly. I assumed that meant the battery died. Today after opening it up and doing an inspection I put it back together and now it won't charge. Flashing red light on the charger.

Sorry to hear that. Give it more time to air out. I put mine in in-direct sunlight and rotated the parts to make sure all the parts were fully dried.
Maybe the charging coil is still a little wet. It is on the bottom of the lower case.
I would suggest giving it some time...
Update: let the battery die again and sit for a few days, Yesterday decided to give it a try again and now everything is working great. The only issue I have now is the battery drain is extremely high. Took it off the charger yesterday morning at 4 and was at 10% at 5 yesterday afternoon.

You could replace the battery. It isn't hard.

Now after the watch sat a day off the charger it won't come on and the charger just blinks red. No matter what I do it just blinks red after a few minutes
