Data2SD with Cromi-X issues - Asus Transformer TF700

Hello,
I flashed _that's data2sd kernel for cromi-x's latest version. I used MiniTool Partition Wizard to partition my SanDisk 16GB Ultra/Class-10 microsd card (made 2 partitions: Ext4 and FAT32) So once I flashed the Cromi-X with data2sd kernel and restart tablet, it gets stuck on the asus page and doesnt make it past that, the loading wheel still spins but i waited about 10 minutes and it still doesnt get anywhere.
When i removed my MicroSD card and restarted, it works but then it warns me that there is issue with my memory and i have to press on "I am feeling lucky" for the startup to finish. However, after that, some apps are missing, all of their datas is missing and other issues.
So i am guessing i have 2 options (1)re-partition my MicroSD and lose all the data that the kernel moved to it? ..or.. (2)somehow undo all this action and return all the data moved to microSD's ext4 parition back to the tablet. but i do not know how. i tried reflashing cromi-x but with normal kernel and same issue persists.
Please tell me what i need to do to get out of this issue with the least amount of data lost.
Thank you!!

See my reply to your duplicate post.

Yeah duplicate posts....
You seem to be confused about what data2sd does. It doesn't move anything to the SD card. It switches the data partition from internal to the SD card....

Best advice, run the device without DATA2SD. I worked with data 2 sd on comi-x for about a month. It was a huge headache and was not worth the difference in performance. I've found running the newest cromi-x without using setcpu gives me to most stable and reliable performance. I still get the occasional lag, but compared to the headache I had when trying to work with data 2 sd was just not worth it. Comi-x runs really smooth now. Hope that helps

+1 on this. I used to use data2sd before cromi-x and just recently, i tried cromi-x w/out data2sd. I must say, there is just little noticeable differences compared to the time i used data2sd.

I don't want beaufifull rom, just need Stable and Fast .

So, what rom should i use ? I use Khal V4 but it not so stable, it some time crack and some time can't not boot and it even sometime can't reconigize my SD card .
I just need a rom that stable and fast and can play game good. Any advise for me?
Thank you.
Don't know what to tell you. Khal's steel epic blue V4 is completely stable for me. Everything is fast and I don't get crashes... Even the camera app which used to jam up constantly and sometimes force me to do a battery pull after 3 pictures doesn't happen anymore (just fired off 10 shots in a row with no issues at all -though kind of slow rendering time sometimes).
You can try Dexter's 1.3 with Mioa7ae's patch, but I don't see why you should have any issues with Khal's rom.
I am using the Epic Blue also and after the first few days of tweaking, it runs stable and haven't had any real problems. The first few days were really hard and frustating to get everything running well and together.
I am using Full Fat32 with a 513swap and native froyo app2sd (with move2sd enabler) and this SD Speed Increase which ups that cache settings of your SD card through /System. Have to wipe Dalvik evey once in awhile but all-in-all faster than 2.1 and way more stable that Personared was. Could flash Galaxyxt4 though. Kept getting Md5 checksum error.
Good luck

It seems to be very common for the SD card to cause trouble.
I think I would look into fixing your SD card. First try copying all the files off and reformatting it and copying them back. I recommend doing this after removing the card from the phone and inserting it directly into a computer. (If you're using the ext2/3 or swap partition you could get rid of them and reformat the entire card as fat). If you're still having problems, maybe your card has gone physically bad.

[Q] CROMi-X 4.4 with data2sd

I'm having issues with data2sd on CROMi-X 4.4. I can get the ROM to see my ext4 partition as internal storage under the system settings, but the problem is that the random write speeds that I get from Androbench don't reflect data2sd speeds. Random write speeds are similar to the ones for internal storage (about 0.14 average). I've had this issue with all JB 4.2 ROMs. However, when I use JB 4.1 ROMs with data2sd, they work perfectly, with CROMi 3.4 being the last ROM that I tried out. I used gparted to completely reformat my sd card (as in delete all existing partitions and create new fat32 and ext4 partitions).
Would anyone happen to know the solution? I can't find the answer anywhere in the forums....

It would seem a lot of people, myself included, have had to flash _that's data2sd mod seperately after flashing the rom. You can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40522097&postcount=56
You don't need to reflash the rom or anything, just flash it over the top and you're good to go. Run androbench after you're finished and you should be getting random writes at about 0.7mb/s

I've done that already. I know for certain that the tablet is running data2sd since I see that the internal storage size is the size of my ext4.

[Q] Cromi-X and data2sd

Hi, I could use some pointers on how to get data2sd on to my tablet.
I recently flashed to my first ROM, Cromi-X 5.0.3, and it seems to work well. Now I would like to apply data2sd in addition - maybe it was stupid, I guess it would have been smoother to apply that in the same move.
Anyways, I have set up a high speed micro-SD card now, formatted according to the instructions.
Now - I am a bit confused about flashing with a kernel - can I pick a kernel from the downloaded Cromi-X 5.0.3 zip-file, and flash that without any major wiping? If not, which kernel should I pick then... ?
Thanks!

You need to partition your sd card into fat32 and ext4 as per the instructions here using gparted. Do not use minitool please:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962507
Then reflash the rom picking a data2sd option.

Yup, I have done that - but I can't see (in the ES file explorer) the partitions that should be in place, and in AndroBench, I don't get the speeds I should be seeing...

[Q] No Speed Improvements with CROMI 5

i have been using my tablet for studying and lately, it has been very laggy to the point of being unbearable!
i have no technical experience about the subject matter but decided to go ahead and try to unlock, root and install a ROM. the goal of which was to improve the tablet's responsiveness and usability. i was very positive upon learning about the DATA2SD mod.
i followed the instructions found on this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425383 (CROMi-X 5.3a)
the tablet boots and runs, but when i ran tests (AndroBench), the Random Write Speeds were mere 0.2mb/s.. yet the SD mod seems to be in effect! as such, i could even access sdcard0 and sdcardi in file explorerers.
i mounted the sd card, class 10 Sandisk, onto my phone and ran a test using A1 SD Bench.. the results showed 8.1- 11.1 mb/s write speeds..
what did i do wrong? i have been very stressed by this entire process.. i was doing things i have never done before, and worst, i knew very little about what i was doing.
someone pls help me!
Edit.. heres a pic showing info about my storage..
i partition the 32GB card into: Fat32 5GB and EXT4 25GB

You must have done something wrong as you should have noticed a difference.
Did you go straight to data2sd? Which kernel and options did you choose? Clean wipe or dirty flash on top of stock? Did you choose all the apps or do a lighter install?

i was previously on cromi 3.2.. rebooted.. then flashed the data2sd.. but that didnt work so i did more reading and finally, i found your signature on the forum. clicked on the tf700 option and tada! i found cromi 5.3! and it had built in data2sd! i was ecstatic! great thanks by the way!
i booted in recovery and performed a factory reset, then,
since i was using twrp 2.4, i flashed the suggested bootloader with the latest twrp (WW series), then rebooted, then went into recovery.
installed cromi 5.3 with the following selections
_that os (first option) , data2sd enabled
240 dp
cromi xlite + stock launcher
default options for stock apps
default options for misc apps
music fx
added polaris, titanium back-up, emulator, LMT (i was very found of the pie controls)
rebooted, then went into recovery to install the 5.3a patch..
the tablet boots, runs, i even have the sea wallpaper now.. but the random write speed is still the same as before.. still 0.2mb/s
super thanks sdbags for replying!

the tablet has very poor write speeds (or so i read).. its original speed would 0.2mb/s.. i read that by using Androbench i would be able to verify if data2sd speed enhancement is in effect.
i posted the sd card write speed to clarify that i am indeed using a class 10 sd card..
or am i using them wrong? i dont really have enough know-how about this, i have just been reading and rereading guides.. i just started.. i dont know why things go wrong, or how to troubleshoot them..
EDIT:
so i transferred the sd card unto my phone, ran Androbench and choose the micro option, results for random write was 1mb/s..
if it matters, my phone is a SGS4 Snapdragon variant

i was sorta desperate, i flashed mount_data2sd.zip just now, like 5mins earlier. if it matters, i took a screenshot of my storage..
but i cant link it cause im a new member, instead i edited my questioned and added it there..
ran Androbench, got 0.18mb/s

The sandisk is it an ultra uhs-1 class 10? Did you do a clean install? You don't need to use the mount zip for installing the ROM - that is only for TWRP operations. The rom installer should figure it out for you.

hmm.. it says SDHC.. could it be that i have the wrong type of sd card? if so, then thats great news! maybe if i change my sd card, ill have better results? at this point, i would really rather prefer a physical problem than technical ones..
i always did a factory reset if thats what clean install means..
i'm beginning to conclude that the sd card is the main problem here..I really do hope changing to another SD card will solve it.. super thanks sir for your time and knowledge!!!
sorry for the wait.. i had to weait for 5mins, got distracted while waiting for the time limit to expire
SDHC should be OK (must be 32GB or lower?)
I just ran AndroBench on my internal SD Card with fsync disabled - I'll run it on my Sandisk UHS-1 Class 10 64GB SDXC in a minute
Internal SD Card /data
External SD Card /data (ROM2SD/DATA2SD)
As you can see they are approx the same as the external data setup gives the same benefits as internal + fsync without the dangers of disabling fsync.

With fsync off you are just measuring the write speed of your RAM.

would a reinstall possibly fix this?
how I plan to reinstall..
reboot to recovery, advance wipe everything (same options, will not do anything about fsync)
then reinstall cromi 5.3, go back to home
then flash 5.3a patch, then reboot
would that be okay? i am scared to brick my device.. or how should i go about it? i have copied my files to my computer and do not have many apps, i use my tablet solely really for studying.. so a total wipeout really wont bother me..

BTW I tried the benchmarks without fsync disabled and got very similar to yours so it looks like the card controller is rubbish on the transformer as well. But the rom should feel zippy even so.
If you want to wipe your data2sd partition you'll need to run the mount zip first.
Why don't you just try a nice clean install on internal first - let's get that up and running.

then flash cromi-x 5.3, home, flash 5.3a patch then reboot (this time i disabled fsync)
the tablet booted, runs
i did perform any backups but i still have androbench and google drive(i used it to transfer the screenshots)? isnt it suppose to be gone? even my pie shorcuts are still here..
i ran the test again, here are the results (even the screenshot shortcut settings remained the same, shouldnt it have been affected by the reset as well?
anyway, the numbers showed big imporvements on write speeds!
i dont know if this helps, but heres my storage:
sdcadi, data and datai are all empty
I would like to thank you alot sir! I simply cannot afford a new tablet. Your work has breathed new life to my. More power to you sir!
As a matter of fact, I am tying this from my tablet! There isn't a thanks button in sight though.. I will hit thanks as soon as I get on the computer! Currently slaving away in the library..

Encryption Unsuccessful Message
I tried both mod1, 2, and 3. Each time I load my rom, load the BOOT-MOD-3.zip, and then my apps (PA Gapps).
I keep getting a Encryption unsuccessful message. Also to note, during the initial boot, it only preps/installs 12-14 apps and not the 70+ that usually need to be done when I don't run the move mod.
Any ideas?

You need to wipe all partitions except sdcard in recovery, flash rom, gapps, then mod.
When you update rom, flash rom then mod again, that's it.
SD-ext needs to be a second primary partition formatted in ext4 (or f2fs if using cm12/cm12.1).
Note: New versions uploaded. Now supports all ivanich's ROMs (cm11,cm12,cm12.1).
@hinxnz: great mod, thx!
Working great for me, but I got 2 questions:
1) I flashed the newest cm12.1 two days ago and flashed your mod (all in SD except dalvic) afterwards. Now you uploaded a New Version compatible with all ivanich Roms. Does your update make any differences for me with cm12.1? Should I reflash?
2) You just said that the mod should be flashed after gapps, I did it the other way round. Does it matter? Got no problems so far.

It doesn't matter in what order, as long as the mod is flashed after ROM because it edits ramdisk in the kernel.
Your fine with the version you have, it will act the same. You can flash the newer version when you update your ROM.
Problem with storage size
Thanks very much for the mod.
I wanted to use "All Data excl. Dalvik-Cache" and ivanichs cm 12.1 with 4ext recovery.
I was using delta-roh method on my previous installation.
I wiped all partitions except SD card. clean install the rom, then pico gapps and then this mod. Then i install my backups with titanium backup and it started to say storage is full.
When I checked the storage it was still showin 1.15gb and it was full. But installed app size was showing 2gb. I wast able to get sms because of the storage was full.
Am I missing something with the installation method?
Thanks is advance for the replies.

You could use a root file explorer and check the properties of /idata or just enter code below into a terminal emulator. To enable terminal in cm12, goto developer options and enable local terminal.
Code:
df /idata

To enter recovery pull battery out, then reinsert it. Hold down volume down button while powering up device and it will enter bootloader, which then you can enter recovery by selecting recovery.
You must have a second primary partition (sd-ext) of your sdcard formatted as ext4 (or you can choose to use f2fs if using cm12 or cm12.1).
If your formatting your whole sdcard instead of shrinking your fat32 partition, then you need to create the first partition (fat32) first and then the second (ext4 or f2fs), otherwise they will be labelled wrong.
CM11 doesn't support f2fs, so if you format it as f2fs on CM11, you will get an encryption error and same goes I guess if you format a partition in ext2 or ext3 because it's not configured in fstab.
Did you try flashing ROM and then mod again, maybe it was a bad flash, it can happen.
I'm using your MOD Plus V3 with 2 f2fs partitions at the moment, which I created with GParted.
What does TWRP do when wiping sd-ext in recovery? If I need to wipe both is there any posibility without using GParted?
And similar, what is backuped by TWRP when doing a backup of sd-ext?
Multi swap
Hi there,
I love the work you've been doing on the sensation and I'm glad to still be using it 4 years on with the latest CM12.1. I have a problem with lagginess after multiple attempts to install CM12.1 and your boot mod v1.2. It seems to be an issue relating to the memory and swap, and I noticed running the cat /proc/swaps shows BOTH /dev/block/zram0 AND the data partition. Removing the zram0 by using the swapoff command speeds the phone up loads. Is there a permanent fix though to persist after reboots?
Thanks,
Keith

It seems to be an issue relating to the memory and swap, and I noticed running the cat /proc/swaps shows BOTH /dev/block/zram0 AND the data partition. Removing the zram0 by using the swapoff command speeds the phone up loads. Is there a permanent fix though to persist after reboots?
Thanks,
Keith

Hi Keith, zram shouldn't be active, my mod disables it in fstab.pyramid, found in the root directory.
I don't know why it's activated on your side, maybe an app or init.d script.
To disable it, you could use an init.d script.
Code:
#!/sbin/sh
# Disable ZRAM
swapoff /dev/block/zram0
ZRAM sorted
Thanks for the reply mate. I installed TWRP (from 4ext) and used it to reformat everything and start from scratch which sorted out the ZRAM0 issue.
After reinstalling ivanich's CM12.1 and your boot mod v1.2 it was much better. I'm still having intermittent lag and slow network speeds so I reverted to CM11 this morning (with your boot mod) to see if it was any quicker. Seems to be much quicker but the lag persists. Weirdly I get the lag most in the settings, and it bombs out sometimes. I'm wondering if it could be to do with my SD card partitions which were created in GParted, not TWRP.
If you've got any ideas of things to check I'm all ears.
Thanks for the kind support!

No worries, first try a lower swappiness value by lowering value in /cache/swap.conf, save it and then reboot.
Try 30 or 40, default is 60. See how it goes.
If you still have lag then your memory could be running very low, use an app or init.d script to raise minfree values slighty higher.
I don't think it has to do with your sd partitions, could be your sdcard is a little slow maybe.
You could probably check the partitions in twrp or gparted though.
If you sort it, post what you did :good:

Update: Blew everything away again and installed cm12.1 fresh without the SD-EXT mod and it runs fast and lag-free. Installed the sd-ext and lagginess came back. :-/
I had previously tried a fresh install with another SD partitioned by TWRP, made no difference to lagginess. Lower swappiness values seemed to have a minor difference but still laggy.
The lagginess seemed to be mostly when loading from disk. Applications in RAM seemed to run fine until they needed to load something. Downloads very slow on WiFi or 3g, titanium backup very slow too. Strange...
It would be nice to get it working but this is a tad baffling. Thanks for your kind support!

Seems to me that your sdcard is not fast enough, what make and kind of card do you have?
SDHC or SDXC and UHS-I or UHS-II
I have a Sandisk Ultra SDHC UHS-I and it's only just fast enough for this mod, I need a faster one really.
I have no issues with download speeds with wifi, not really related to mod though, could be slow at writing to sdcard.
Titanium could be slow due to slower writing speeds on sdcard too as it has to build dalvik-caches on sdcard when restoring apps.
Edit: Can you try BOOT-MOD-1.1.zip, it's the non-plus version. It would be good to know if you still experience lags with it, if you do, then sdcard is not fast enough, otherwise could be something to do with the plus version, cheers.

I'm using a Lexar 32GB class 10 SDHC, had no issues with it. I ran the A1 SD card benchmarking tool and it measured reads of 17 and writes of 11 MB/s. The internal flash reported speeds of 25MB/s read and 7MB/s write by comparison.
I'll try the BOOT-MOD v1.1 and report back...
