Hi, I could use some pointers on how to get data2sd on to my tablet.
I recently flashed to my first ROM, Cromi-X 5.0.3, and it seems to work well. Now I would like to apply data2sd in addition - maybe it was stupid, I guess it would have been smoother to apply that in the same move.
Anyways, I have set up a high speed micro-SD card now, formatted according to the instructions.
Now - I am a bit confused about flashing with a kernel - can I pick a kernel from the downloaded Cromi-X 5.0.3 zip-file, and flash that without any major wiping? If not, which kernel should I pick then... ?

You need to partition your sd card into fat32 and ext4 as per the instructions here using gparted. Do not use minitool please:

Yup, I have done that - but I can't see (in the ES file explorer) the partitions that should be in place, and in AndroBench, I don't get the speeds I should be seeing...

When a new update comes out for CROMI and you install the update, does that update require that you re-apply Data2SD or is Data2SD still on there?
I assume you will need to flash the mount2sd file so that recovery knows where to use? And then after the rom flash you will need to redo the data2sd patch so that the framework and kernel understands.

They way I interpret the question is your second one, sbdags: yes, you need to apply the CROMI patch new -- it overwrites files that the update (re?)installed that would make your 700 boot into the internal storage data store instead.

The -that3 kernel auto-detects a microSD card with a second partition and will boot into the Data2SD environment if such a card is inserted, and boot normally with the internal storage without card or with a single-partition card. The other mods to access the internal storage as sdcardi etc. must be re-applied in the ROM.

Funny thing is I only recalled that auto-detect feature in v3 of your awesome kernel earlier today -- I've been using v2 since it came out. </stupid> LOL!
I'm going to reflash later this evening and use your v3, just for convenience's sake.
@OP: _that clarified justly that if you use his v3 kernel you will not have to decide which version to get. The CROMI mod for data2sd should be reflashed after updating CROMI (and I'd advise you to flash _that's v3 afterwards!); I'm not really sure as to whether you need to flash mount2sd BEFORE flashing the CROMI update -- but it won't hurt!
I figured as much since if you're installing an updated rom or patch, you will need to install the data2sd zip.

I'm having issues with data2sd on CROMi-X 4.4. I can get the ROM to see my ext4 partition as internal storage under the system settings, but the problem is that the random write speeds that I get from Androbench don't reflect data2sd speeds. Random write speeds are similar to the ones for internal storage (about 0.14 average). I've had this issue with all JB 4.2 ROMs. However, when I use JB 4.1 ROMs with data2sd, they work perfectly, with CROMi 3.4 being the last ROM that I tried out. I used gparted to completely reformat my sd card (as in delete all existing partitions and create new fat32 and ext4 partitions).
Would anyone happen to know the solution? I can't find the answer anywhere in the forums....

It would seem a lot of people, myself included, have had to flash _that's data2sd mod seperately after flashing the rom. You can find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40522097&postcount=56
You don't need to reflash the rom or anything, just flash it over the top and you're good to go. Run androbench after you're finished and you should be getting random writes at about 0.7mb/s

I've done that already. I know for certain that the tablet is running data2sd since I see that the internal storage size is the size of my ext4.
I am new with data2sd.
I read from another discussion that in order to use data2sd on my TF700 tablet I have to create two partitions on my external SDcard (partition1 = FAT32, while the secod partition is ESXT4). I am using Samsung SDXC 64GB class 10 card. For some reason I could not format the EXT4 successfully. I have tried MiniTool partition and GPart USB and Disk boot.
With latest GPart I receive error "Input/Output errro during write on /dev/mmcblk0" with header message "Libpart Bug Found!".
I tried to leave the first partition empty then format the 2nd partition EST4 as well but it made no different.
Finally I ask a frined to format the card from his Apple laptop and he said he did it. However I am still unable to detect the 2nd paritition.
This time the Gpart softare has shown a Warning message as shown in the attachment.
Can anyone help me? Thanks

I have heard that MiniTool has corrupted a few users SD when they use it. If it is still new, you can get the exchange from where you bought it.
Otherwise, you could try this to see if it works out for you.
You can use a card reader and plug it in your window pc. You need to reformat your SD with extfat. If everything works, then you can use gparted to format two partions, fat32/ext4, to use for data2sd.
If it is still not working, you can go to the SD card associate website and download the format4.0 tool. You need to install the software on your pc and use it to format your SD. In the pull down option, you need to select the "overwrite" option in the menu and hope that they can repartition your allocation table in order for your SD to work again. Is it a micro SD you are trying to use? The full sized SD in the dock won't work for data2sd.
You must use gparted to format the card. There is no other way.
Take the microSD out and check if it boots normally. You may have corrupted your card with Mini Tool...

I am currently using an exactly the same SD as your. It is working for me. Something may be wrong your end..
Got the partition working and NOW is the mounting problem...
Finally i got my second partition working. The formatting worked after I recreated the partition table using gPART.
Now my ASUS TF700 could not mount the second partition of my Samsung card. It only read th first primary partition. After flashing ROM with CROMI-X 5.0 and select that_4 kernal (DATA2SD), it loop at initial Asus boot logo and then reboot repeatly and endlessly. Is there any step I am missing here? Thanks for any help here.

am using MicroSDXC UHS-1 card 64GB
Hi,
I am using Samsung 64GB microSDXC UHS-1 card and I inserted it into the tablet directly. The tablet could read first FAT32 partition but not the second one (EXT4). I could see the second partition using Mini Partition Tool as well as GPART though.
I am thinking hard now on how to let my TF700 read the EXT4 second partition on my card. ANy idea? Thank you

I try
1. I bought a SanDisk Extreme with 32 GB
2. I have used gparted to partion my SD Card. First with 4 GB Fat32. Second with Ext4. Both are primary.
3. I flashed the new TRWP 2.6.1.0 on my Tab.
4. Reboot the recovery an flash mount-data2sd.zip
5. flashed the Cromi 5.0.1 odex and use _thats data2sd Kernel
6. I flashed data2sd-jb42-intmedia-that1.zip
My Tab runs with this but i can't use the Ext4 form my SD-Card.

That's what "intmedia" does.
The ext4 partition should contain your apps and app data.

Wipe cache and davilik doesn't work correctly. After the wipe my tab don't update the apps during the boot of the rom.

You have to use the mount-data2sd.zip from the data2sd thread to temporarily switch your recovery to use /data on the microSD card.

Hi, do you mind giving me tips on how to solve my problem? I am thinking if my tablet could not read the 2nd partititon on extenral MicroSD card, I will not get DATA2SD works no matter how. Please correct me if I am wrong. I have also installed mount-data2sd.zip from TWRP 2.6 and then flash Cromi 5.0 ROM using built-in DATA2SD kernel by that_4. the outcome is still negative.

May I ask how do you try to read your ext4 SD? Did you flash _that's data2sd zip file? I don't recall that I have ever gotten any problems with the exactly SD that you have...
Edit: If you use _that data2sd kernel, then you don't need to flash _that's data2sd zip file.. However, it is not a bad idea to flash it again to see how your tablet responses..

Hi, the way I checked is when I goto storage option, i could only see the internal and first partition on my external SDcard so I assume the 2nd partition is not recognized? Also using ES Explorer, I clicked "MicroSD" option and it only showed the content in the first SDcard partition.
These are the steps I did:
1- From TWRP 2.6.0, I flash a separate mount-data2sd.zip
2 - still in TWRP, once the above flashing complete, I flash CROMI-X 5.0 deodex and select that_4 data2sd kernel
3 - wipe cache and dalvik cache
4 - reboot system
5 - I got message there is no OS in the internal parition/disk do you want to continue? Since I got no choice, I clicked yes then the screen hang at initial Asus logo screen.
Luckily I have TWRP backup prior so I managed to restore my complete /data, /system and /boot or recovery.
Plz help and advice my misunderstanding or missing steps here. Thanks

First, can you tell me what rom and kernel you are running? I don't think that you can see your ext4 on your external sd unless you are using data2sd.. For now, you can use gparted to see if there is a second partition with ext4.. I need to understand your system a little more in order to help you set up data2sd..

I used my TF700 for several month, and I am very dissatified. At the moment I use a cleanrom, without external SD. As I am allready rooted an unlocked, I am not able to send it back to my seller ...
So, my last chance to get the device a little bit faster, is to install cromi rom and use data2sd. But after reading hours in several forums, I am not sure, which steps I should do to install it and which files I actually need.
I bought a class 10 microsd card, partitioned into a fat32 and an ext4 partition.
So , whats next? (It never mind, if i loose my internal sd-card)
1. I have to flash an data2sd kernel, right ? Which one?
2. I have to wipe the sd-card?
3. Install the cromi-rom ... right? Which one? I downloaded CROMi-Xenogenesis ODEX 4.7.0_Signed.zip. Or is there a special Rom for Data2SD?
Are there any further steps?

2 Kernel, you have 2 choices:
a) Hund's custom kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143093
b) _that modified stock kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230059
3) I alway wipe everything if go from one version to the next, but from cromi v4 to cromv5 you don't have to, just verify that you have the latest bootloader mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425383

you have to do a bit more than that:
you need to make 2 partitions on your sd-card using Gparted Live CD as explained in the data2sd thread

i always flash the twrp zip always first before i do anything else in recovery.
i have a 64gb class 10 card, my first partition is 8GB FAT32 so i can make backups to this partition and place the ROM files so they don't get lost after wiping, the remaining 56GB is formatted as EXT4 and used as internal storage.
I use the latest cromi, _that's kernel, data2sd, fsync disabled and cache2sd turned off.
It makes the TF700 a lot more usable, but (sorry to say) it's still not the machine it should have been....

The boot flag is irrelevant. Just make sure that both are primary partitions.

Curious, if one were to have made the mistake of having both partitions created as logical vs primary - what's the best way to resolve?
Fix and reboot?
Fix and re-flash and wipe cache?
Does this require a data wipe to work?
What's the best way to validate it's working correctly post boot?

In gparted you can convert logical to primary. Or wipe everything and start again.
As for knowing, you'll have a /datai folder where your old apps are stored as well as a new /data folder for new stuff. First boot will act like a clean install as well.

Very Fast would be good!! Format the internal memory as F2FS also, or just the sdcard?

If you use data2sd then internal /data is not used.
You only need to format mmcblk1p2 to f2fs on the card for data2sd.

I've noticed no difference between data2sd and rom2sd but f2fs allows better use of the tablet when things are downloading in the background for example.

Easiest way is install the latest TWRP 2.7.1.1 which has format options now for both ext4 (takes 90 mins) and f2fs (takes seconds).
You'll obviously lose everything if you format /data as f2fs so have a backup if you want to go back.
If you are using data2sd or rom2sd just remember to use the data2sd1.zip or rom2sd1.zip first to switch TWRP over to your external partitions otherwise you will be formatting internal.

If you use data2sd (or rom2sd for that matter) you are not using the internal data partition for daily operations other than storage maybe. So you can leave it alone.
First step is to backup any data from the rom2sd data partition you want to keep.
Then you have to repartition the card. For data2sd you have to have 2 partitions (not 3 as in rom2sd): one fat32, one ext4 or f2fs. Do that in Gparted and while you're at it, you can format the future data partition to f2fs.
Then flash the rom with the data2sd option and _that v10 kernel.
I would also recommend getting TWRP 2.7.1

Go to the crombi-kk thread in the dev section and see post 2 - the instructions are there on how to do it
Once you partition it the installer will then do everything else for you
Thank you I did read that one, very straight forward. I am having trouble finding a zip containing twrp 2.7.1.1 ... I currently have 2.6.3-that3 but twrp manager keeps crashing on me and does not Let me choose a device in order to upgrade.

Download the blob from the TWRP site and install it via fastboot.
I got the file from techerrata with md5, is this a reliable source? Please forgive my newb green-ness
