Rooting and Unlocking Bootloader - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi everyone,
I want to root my "One X 3.18 AT&T cws_001" to flash my boot.img because i have a reboot/crash problem. However, to root the device the bootloader must be unlocked, and to unlock the Bootloader it must be rooted Anyone have an idea of how i can resolve this ? Thanks.

If your phone is not rooted flashing boot.img doesn't apply to you. If it's completely stock do factory reset in bootloader. If that doesn't work, download and run the 3.18 AT&T RUU EXE file not ZIP file and run it with your phone plugged in.

Rooting will not fix your issue if running the RUU does not. RUU is the software fix for rooted and none rooted phones. So if an RUU does not fix it. It's a hardware issue.
Your phone needs to be operational to root/unlock.

the latest leaked update 1.85 isn't rootable so if you want to unlock your bootloader and get in on that fun you should go ahead and do it rather than wait.

i'm still on 1.73 and looking to root only for the purpose of being able to install root-only apps, and not for the purpose of flashing custom roms. if you say that 1.85 isn't rootable, does this mean i should root before getting the update (whenever it becomes available from Rogers)? and if i do take this route, will the update unroot my phone?

1.85 is possible to root and Bootloader unlock. First root your phone ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167)
Then use this tool ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672284 ). That will unlock your bootloader and install SuperCID (that's why we do it, for SCID).
After unlocked, you must relock your bootloader, flash 1.85 RUU, then unlock again, flash cwm, and flash Superuser ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676101 ).
Good luck. It can happen, it's just a long process.

That method is incompatible with 1.85. You will receive an error when trying to root it with that.

so i relocked bootloader on 1.73 now what

so heres the story i bricked my one x and had to relock the bootloader and ruu back to 1.73 so currently my bootloader is tampereed relocked and im on 1.73
what do i have to do to get recovery back and get back to flashing roms from this step
also the reason it got bricked was becasue cwm delted all my data

1. unlock the bootloader using 'fastboot flash unlocktoken <UNLOCK FILE>'
2. flash TWRP via fastboot

Use the same token., here is a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675312. Or you can run fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin

HOX SV 1.94.631 help to install custom rom

I got my HOX about 2 weeks now. I really want to flash it with a custom Rom. Tried lots of rooting instructions with no success. Phone is now back to factory reset using RRU method. I got the bootloader unlock. No success loading Clockworkmod on boatloader recovery.

I have the same issue but it says my phone says it is tapered. I want to go back to stock at least. What instructions did you follow for that?

not sure how to remove the "tampered" status but i got it back to stock using RRU method and load a stock Rogers Rom. you need to re-lock it before using RRU. my status now is Tampered and Relock.

Did you use the 1.94 RUU or did you try to Flash the 1.73 original?
You must root on 1.85. Scripts don't work on any other version.

Can I just use RRU to go back to 1.85? Please attach a link.
Thanks

Best way to root at this moment would be to unlock your bootloader using HTCDEV and flash TWRP recovery and then flash CleanRom 4.5 which will give you root as long as you kepp that rom on your phone. There could be other roms out there that will give you root access but I've flashed a few and CleanRom 4.5 was the only one that got me rooted. Until they come up with a way to perm root on 1.94 I suggest using this method.

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can root with any ROM.
If you unlock and flash a recovery-
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
and you cant get it to boot the custom recovery heres the trick, after you flash the recovery type
fastboot boot nameofrecovery.img

[Q] Stock OEM factory rom

I have an issue with my phones gyroscope, some apps read the gyro and some dont but all do not read raw data from the sensor.
The gyro worked before I rooted, so i find it hard to believe the sensor hardware died right after that.
I have tried flashing different roms and still no luck.
So I want to relock and RUU back to stock factory specs and check to see if the sensor is working normal. If the sensor does not work then I can assume that the gyro hardware is just plain dead
If the sensor works then I want to unlock, root, TWRP, and ROM again.
So main question:
Can I relock the boot loader in adb with "fastboot oem lock". Then open a 2.20 RUU file and install the RUU?
Let the rom install and configure itself. (should be a fully stock OEM factory fresh phone?)
Test the gyro sensor. Hopfully it works.
Reboot the phone in bootloader
Then flash my unlock token that I originally used to unlock the phone the first time using fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin.
Hopefully my bootloader then says "UNLOCKED", then flash TWRP, then Super User, reboot and I should have a rooted stock ATT ROM.
Then flash a ROM of my choice.
I would follow this guide to the tee: [GUIDE] Upgrade to ATT 2.20 OTA Safely
Does it sound like I am understanding what I want to accomplish?:fingers-crossed:
Anything I a missing or missunderstanding?
Sounds right to me, but then again... I used Hasoon2000's all in one toolkit to root and flash over TWRP.
If you Hboot is 1.14 you'll have to mount sd card from TWRP extract the boot.img file from the rom copy .zip to sd card then flash boot.img and install the .zip
Also, make sure you have the correct RUU to run. It's critical.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
I used X-Factor root exploit and my Hboot is 1.14.0002.
Phone was on 2.20 software when rooted.
After I root and backup stock rom I would fastboot flash boot boot.img before flashing a ROM.
I would like to do that as well
But I don't know how
Any help? Where can I get the stock at&t 2.20 ruu to download? And a quick guide on how to do it
Im sure not all devices have the same gyroscope and the app could just not be compatible.

2.20 RUU http://dl3.htc.com/application/htc_one_x_RUU_2.20.502.7_att_us_08022012.exe
EDiT: OP can we try to keep it all in one thread and not start multiple threads for same issue ?

Looking to run 1.85 RUU from 2.20/downgraded hboot, few questions

hello XDA,
im planning to run the 1.85 RUU, coming from 2.20 and downgraded hboot to 1.09. i already edited the mmcblk0p23 file to 1.000.00.0 (from grims post in the JET thread). will i be able to simply re-unlock the bootloader after the RUU is done? i have the unlock token saved, so i should be able to grab that token and fastboot flash, then run this root method? :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673935
clearly, i havent ran an RUU so i just wanted to full understand the process before i start it. thank you in advance. :good:
Yes, but you don't need to do the root method after unlocking

after you RUU, you can just use your previous unlock token and unlock the bootloader. no exploits needed. Then you can flash superuser, or a ROM
