Looking to run 1.85 RUU from 2.20/downgraded hboot, few questions - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

hello XDA,
im planning to run the 1.85 RUU, coming from 2.20 and downgraded hboot to 1.09. i already edited the mmcblk0p23 file to 1.000.00.0 (from grims post in the JET thread). will i be able to simply re-unlock the bootloader after the RUU is done? i have the unlock token saved, so i should be able to grab that token and fastboot flash, then run this root method? :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673935
clearly, i havent ran an RUU so i just wanted to full understand the process before i start it. thank you in advance. :good:

Yes, but you don't need to do the root method after unlocking

after you RUU, you can just use your previous unlock token and unlock the bootloader. no exploits needed. Then you can flash superuser, or a ROM

the latest leaked update 1.85 isn't rootable so if you want to unlock your bootloader and get in on that fun you should go ahead and do it rather than wait.

i'm still on 1.73 and looking to root only for the purpose of being able to install root-only apps, and not for the purpose of flashing custom roms. if you say that 1.85 isn't rootable, does this mean i should root before getting the update (whenever it becomes available from Rogers)? and if i do take this route, will the update unroot my phone?

1.85 is possible to root and Bootloader unlock. First root your phone ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167)
Then use this tool ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672284 ). That will unlock your bootloader and install SuperCID (that's why we do it, for SCID).
After unlocked, you must relock your bootloader, flash 1.85 RUU, then unlock again, flash cwm, and flash Superuser ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676101 ).
Good luck. It can happen, it's just a long process.

That method is incompatible with 1.85. You will receive an error when trying to root it with that.

I'm sorry, i really am, but I'm still confused - flashing from 1.73

I've read and googled everything i can and I'm honestly still very confused and need the communities help!
Just got myself the one x with ROGERS, and yes I'm on stock rom 1.73
I'd like to flash a custom ROM...simple enough but the process seems confusing.
Here's what i understand i should do so far..
1. since I'm already locked (bootloader locked) i can just flash to 1.85 RUU..
2. Once i somehow find a way to do that...i need to unlock the bootloader from htcdev.com
Install CWM..by one click or maybe the adb method..
3. Or was it root first and then CWM...??
4. Install ROM..if you can figure out the instructions on that..
I need some serious help..the most detailed instructions possible...
Cheers and i appreciate all the help i can get.

this link should give you all of the instructions.

Skip the first step. 1.85 is unrootable at the moment so if you try and flash using the 1.85 RUU you're screwing yourself over for the latter steps. Use the One-Click Root (search for tut) and root your device on the 1.73. Then you want to do the rest.
I belive you are mistaken. I from 1.73 root and bootloader unlock can be achieved. Then fastboot oem lock through command line, flash 1.85, unlock the bootloader again, and flash cwm. then you can flash superuser and you have root on 1.85. Right now if you want to flash custom roms 1.85 base is the only option. There are threads in the development section with tools and instructions on how to do this process.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
You cannot unlock your bootloader though without your phone being rooted, and if you update to 1.85 you're stripping away your root privileges. Maybe I'm mistaken, but that's how I've understood it.
This is exactly what I'm trying to avoid... all this confusion...

You can't directly unlock or root 1.85 yet, the only way you can is if you already have a super-CID from before you upgraded. Follow the tutorial on how to do that, then unlock your bootloader using HTC Dev, then flash your recovery with ClockWorkMod, then install SuperUser using ClockWordMod. That's the only thing that will work to get you what you want on 1.85

That's exactly what I said. It is a roundabout way to root, but it is the only way. And it works.
He has a Rodgers phone so he can unlock the bootloader without needing to mod anything but i think he still needs to change the cid so that he can flash 1.85

Having trouble Rooting hboot-0.90

As the title says, I am having a lot of trouble rooting this phone.
I got this phone as a warranty replacement for my old phone that was rooted following the CM guide.
I tried following the CM guide to root and get s-off but that did not work since it would not let me change the version number. I had to unlock the bootloader through HTC before it would let me run the misc_version file. After I got that working, it wouldn't let me flash old rom. No errors, it would just scan the rom and then not give me the option to flash.
I tried a few of the other guides to try to get s-off but those did not work either. Visionary does not work to get temp root. I did get temp root using fre3vo then tried running gfree to get s-off but that did not work either.
So as of now I am unable to downgrade my rom, so I can't follow the rest of the instructions from CM.
Any ideas?
Data from bootloader:
*** UNLOCKED ***
GLACIER PVT **** S-ON
HBOOT-0.90.0000
MICRIO-0429
RADIO-26.13.04.07_M
eMMC-boot
OS related:
Android 2.3.4
Software number
2.35.531.1 710RD
I did try to flash the 0.89 hboot with the htc tool but that did not work either. It timed out waiting for the phone to reconnect after reboot.
Let me know if other information is needed. I would like to get back to ICS, hard to stay with gingerbread now.
Thanks in advance!
After some more searching, looks like I need to relock my bootloader before I can downgrade. Is this right?

I also just got a replacement phone and had some issues with the Cyanogenmod guide that I've used several times in the past. I downgraded to froyo, installed visionary. Gained temp root then turned s-off by :
adb push gfree /data/local
adb shell
su
cd /data/local
chmod 777 gfree
./gfree --secu_flag off
I was then able to gain perm root by using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834225
Hope this helps!
Looks like relocking the bootloader did it. Now it's letting me downgrade, so I guess I am one step closer to returning to ICS.
::EDIT::
As a recap:
Original locked bootloader did not let misc_version run.
Unlocked bootloader let fre3vo and misc_version run but did not let me flash the froyo rom.
Relocked bootloader lets fre3vo, misc_version and the the downgrade to froyo run.
And I can just flash my old nandroid backup, correct?
Or do I need to flash the rom first?

You should be able to reflash your nandroid backup. If not, you have a rom to flash correct?
EDIT: Are you fully rooted or are you just downgraded?
Finally got it fully rooted, flashing the nandroid backup now.
Looks like the 0.90 hboot needs to be unlocked then relocked to be able to downgrade.
It has nothing to do with bootloader, and everything to do with temp root that you didn't achieve. If you would succeed - you'd be able to flash misc_version.
Even with temp root and changing the version, the PD15IMG wouldn't flash until I relocked the boot loader.
That, of course, is correct. But I mean - you didn't have to unlock it in first place.
can you post full instruction how to gain root please and what to do, i have the bootloader unlocked i really really need that root

You can root your device without downgrading. Unlock your bootloader on htcdev.com, install a custom recovery (over fastboot), flash supersu or superuser in recovery.
If you want to downgrade, you'll have to unlock on htcdev.com, root your phone like above, then use misc_version to change the version reported by your phone, relock the bootloader and run the older RUU.
