HOX SV 1.94.631 help to install custom rom - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I got my HOX about 2 weeks now. I really want to flash it with a custom Rom. Tried lots of rooting instructions with no success. Phone is now back to factory reset using RRU method. I got the bootloader unlock. No success loading Clockworkmod on boatloader recovery.

I have the same issue but it says my phone says it is tapered. I want to go back to stock at least. What instructions did you follow for that?

not sure how to remove the "tampered" status but i got it back to stock using RRU method and load a stock Rogers Rom. you need to re-lock it before using RRU. my status now is Tampered and Relock.

Did you use the 1.94 RUU or did you try to Flash the 1.73 original?

You must root on 1.85. Scripts don't work on any other version.

Can I just use RRU to go back to 1.85? Please attach a link.
Thanks

Best way to root at this moment would be to unlock your bootloader using HTCDEV and flash TWRP recovery and then flash CleanRom 4.5 which will give you root as long as you kepp that rom on your phone. There could be other roms out there that will give you root access but I've flashed a few and CleanRom 4.5 was the only one that got me rooted. Until they come up with a way to perm root on 1.94 I suggest using this method.

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can root with any ROM.

If you unlock and flash a recovery-
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
and you cant get it to boot the custom recovery heres the trick, after you flash the recovery type
fastboot boot nameofrecovery.img

I'm sorry, i really am, but I'm still confused - flashing from 1.73

I've read and googled everything i can and I'm honestly still very confused and need the communities help!
Just got myself the one x with ROGERS, and yes I'm on stock rom 1.73
I'd like to flash a custom ROM...simple enough but the process seems confusing.
Here's what i understand i should do so far..
1. since I'm already locked (bootloader locked) i can just flash to 1.85 RUU..
2. Once i somehow find a way to do that...i need to unlock the bootloader from htcdev.com
Install CWM..by one click or maybe the adb method..
3. Or was it root first and then CWM...??
4. Install ROM..if you can figure out the instructions on that..
I need some serious help..the most detailed instructions possible...
Cheers and i appreciate all the help i can get.

Skip the first step. 1.85 is unrootable at the moment so if you try and flash using the 1.85 RUU you're screwing yourself over for the latter steps. Use the One-Click Root (search for tut) and root your device on the 1.73. Then you want to do the rest.
I belive you are mistaken. I from 1.73 root and bootloader unlock can be achieved. Then fastboot oem lock through command line, flash 1.85, unlock the bootloader again, and flash cwm. then you can flash superuser and you have root on 1.85. Right now if you want to flash custom roms 1.85 base is the only option. There are threads in the development section with tools and instructions on how to do this process.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
You cannot unlock your bootloader though without your phone being rooted, and if you update to 1.85 you're stripping away your root privileges. Maybe I'm mistaken, but that's how I've understood it.
This is exactly what I'm trying to avoid... all this confusion...

You can't directly unlock or root 1.85 yet, the only way you can is if you already have a super-CID from before you upgraded. Follow the tutorial on how to do that, then unlock your bootloader using HTC Dev, then flash your recovery with ClockWorkMod, then install SuperUser using ClockWordMod. That's the only thing that will work to get you what you want on 1.85

That's exactly what I said. It is a roundabout way to root, but it is the only way. And it works.
He has a Rodgers phone so he can unlock the bootloader without needing to mod anything but i think he still needs to change the cid so that he can flash 1.85

HELP!!!! Please

Hey Guys,
My phone is stuck on the HTC logo with the little red message about development blah blah blah........... What do I do????
That depends on what you did or what you were trying to do.
You gotta give us more than that. Are you rooted? Unlocked boot loader? Can you reach recovery (hold down bottom volume rocker and power button)? If so, go to recovery, and use the 1.85 RUU found in the development section. Make sure your phone is in recovery.

Ok tried running 1.85 RUU while in Recovery (TWRP) still erroring out. I'm unlocked and rooted. Any ideas??????????????
nonono. dont do the ruu when you are in recovery. instead of going to recovery in bootloader, go to fastboot. then on pc fastboot oem lock and run ruu, this will most likely fix your problem. whether or not you're problem can be fixed with an easier solution i do not know.

Thanks man finally!! Now how would i go about rooting again and flashing a rom since the phone is not rooted and locked again??? Sorry for newb questions iphone user for 6 yrs.... Thanks for all your help!!
do you still have the unlock_code.bin file from when you unlocked it? if not on your computer check your email cuz htc emailed them to you. then boot phone into fastboot and fastboot oem unlock with the unlock code. then look in some of the stickies for how to root 1.85 to get a batch file that flashes cwm for you automatically. once you flash cwm, flash the super user root file to root it. then you're good to go!! however i recommend you immediately install twrp over cwm.

Yeah I don't know why in the age of TWRP people still use CWM. Unless your ROM requires it that is. Swiping vs messing around with the volume button, nuff said

Quick Qestion About Relocking The Bootloader

Couple quick question regarding locking the re-locking the bootloader.
First off I have the ATT One X rooted with TWRP Recovery. To go back to stock if I so choose, would I have to reflash the stock recovery then do fastboot oem lock before running the ruu or can i just fastboot oem lock the bootloader without flashing the stock recovery, then run the ruu?
I think I have to reflash the stock recovery first before relocking the bootloader. If that's the case, can someone link to the stock recovery img file?
I also read that if you're currently rooted and has your CID, you can update to 2.20 and root again...is that still the case?
Thanks

You can just fastboot oem lock, the RUU will take care of restoring the original ROM.

If you want to go back to stock just fastboot oem lock then run the RUU. This is what I did. You can then re-unlock the bootloader and install SuperSU to reestablish root. It's pretty easy. Keep in mind, once you go to 2.20 you can not flash boot.img or radios from TWRP. You have to use adb to flash the boot.img, then boot into recovery and flash the ROM.
If you go into the Dev section, one of the first threads covers this and actually has a guide so you wouldn't have had to ask a question.

Here. You don't need the 1.85 RUU though. Just use 2.20 and skip the manual update from AT&T.

No, it's the opposite: You can't RUU until you relock. It will fail if you try.

RUU will restore your recovery to the stock recovery.
Just keep in mind that once you lock your bootloader you won't be able to boot your phone until you run the RUU. So make sure you're ready to go with the RUU before you fastboot oem lock.

if you still have a custom recovery installed (TWRP or CWM) it's as simple as finding a superuser zip package and installing it. I'd say it would be helpful for other things too (such as optional overclcoking/underclocking, etc)
thanks exad
but now how do I go about installing that
I lost my twrp and superuser when I ruu'd back to stock and ota updated
thanks again

[Q] Brick?

I am trying to restore my device to stock but i am unable to. Im trying to use the ruu. but i keep getting the 155 error. I relocked my bootloader but its not working. im using a telus htc one. My hboot is: 2.15.000 and radio 1.13.50.05.31. No os btw
But i can get to the bootloader
I might be wrong, but as far as I'm aware, it can't work on a locked bootloader, so you'll need to unlock it again.
Make sure you're using the correct ruu, double read the instructions for flashing it...
That's the most I can say, I don't really have that much experience in this.
Also, another option will be to send the stock ROM.zip to the phone using adb, flash a custom recovery, and boot into recovery and flash the ROM.
i could have swore that it needed to be locked. and to do adb,i need a os
still doesnt work

If you didn't do it, you also need to restore the stock recovery.

If you want to be sure of the recovery you can find the good one in the RUU. You'll find guides to get the firmware.zip from the RUU on XDA.
Same problem here. Anyone have a android backup I can try?
