[Q] Evo Shift 4G MMS MetroPCS Does not work HELP - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI all I have searched and tried to search everywhere to get my MMS to work on my EVO shift on the Metro PCS network. I can not get it to work no matter what! What am I doing wrong? Any ideas? I have tried the following threads with no luck. I have Internet working fine but no MMS.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19048321

People say they have used these methods and have gotten the EVO shift to work. I followed the instructions. But no go I am lost. Please help me.
Thanks.
Todd
Or would replacing a Mms.apk file from someone else out there that has an evo shift on metropcs help?

Please close this I figured it out. Thanks.

+1!

Really what I did was flashed my phone with the cyangenomod stable rom for the evo shift. Then immediatly flashed with the zip file for the aosp rom from the link to oakieville's tutorial linked above. For some reason I could not get the sense rom version of his tutorial to work....even though I want a sense based custom rom on my phone ill settle with an aosp one with working mms. In the end I'm happy.

HOW TO PORT INC ROM TO EVO
-excerpt from incdoes blog-
Okay, to run an INC ROM on your EVO would be simple. There will be a few broken 'stuff' e.g. bt, wifi etc... but easy fixes!
First you will need the INC ROM you desire to run on your EVO. Now, if its an "INC Sense ROM" you will need a "EVO Sense Kernel" and if it's an AOSP ROM then you will need a AOSP kernel.
Now there will be a few things you will need to replace on the INC ROM to make it run on your EVO:
~We are going to use a sense 2.2 rom as an example~
"so grab these files from any EVO sense ROM, preferable stock 2.2 EVO"
- boot.img (for your phone to bootup)
- system/usr (for buttons)
- system/lib/hw (for lights)
- system/lib/modules (for wifi)
- system/etc/vold.stab (for sdcard readable)
- build.prop (for market and LED's fix)
please note: some prop files include different edits that can break market/data/network/LED's... but then again, easy fixes!
Now you have an INC Sense ROM and 'all the files listed above pulled from an EVO Sense rom, you will have to add/replace the files pulled from the EVO ROM into the INC ROM, sign the .zip and flash (via recovery).
Should/will bootup if its based on the same firmware i.e. 2.2 INC ROM and 2.2 EVO ROM.

Wonder if this process can be used to port nexus roms?
Probly a couple other things needed.
I had a idea, the Incredible version of the normal LiquidE ROM (not the sense hybrid) seems to have incoming calls working unlike our Evo version. What if we tried porting it using this method, anyone think that might work?

OHHH I wish I had patients!! Quite the opposite actually.....just a really busy life.....but I may try to start tonight anyway .
So im flashing a nexus rom right now, that i switched out all the stuff + threw in a cyanogen kernel.
If this thing bricks...
___________
UPDATE: It booted up, but it doesnt register any touch on the touch screen. LOL.
Hmmm maybe if.. Any ideas guys? I switch some other stuff around too. Maybe i can figure this out...
UPDATE: I flashed netarchy universal kernel and now the touch works, i cant get any signal, i dunno what stuff needs to be switch out from GSM to CDMA.
Wifi WORKS! I dont have a keyboard for some reason, so i cant enter my password to test it but it looks to be fine. And since i have no internet connection i cant get astro to install one from my SD haha.
I flashed over sky raider 3.3 final and every thing is perfect. Theres a uncommon sense patch which I also ported because I remember reading that on the hd Rom the ego didn't like the 4 signal bars. Only thing not exactly right is the camera. It doesn't have the capture button but I can take pics by holding a finger on the screen. Video is a no go due to not having the nature button. This Rom is the smoothest I've used and I'm a flash a holic so I've used them all.
So if I use the flash patch do I need to do any of the other stuff listed in the op(replacing files)?
Sweet Magnus, may have to get back to you details of what i find wrong. But i got a porject due next week for school. I have to record us BMXing this weekend. Then make an edit. If i get that sweet alone time in the eveing, i'll be sure happy to port all three and give findings.

My flashpatch is the same thing,
This post is what i dont want to happen, like i said before there is no point in repacking a whole new zip file when we can just have a flash over patch zip that does all the work for us.

They won't work at all. Droid's bootloader is unlocked, Milestone's isn't. Flashing this would be a big problem for your Milestone.

MMS doesn't work with custom roms. =[

Hey guys
I would post my problem in the Development forum but I don't have enough posts.
I really love computerkid23's Tasteless Venom 1.0 rom but no matter what I do (trying every mms apn settings available for my carrier (3 Australia) and flashing and reflashing the rom - I did this about 10 times, and trying both Undeadk9's roms also), mms would not work for me.
I then read somewhere that some people got mms to work when they flashed their stock rom and lo and behold.. it worked.
Now I'm a little sad because I don't like the stock rom at all. My friends LOVE to send me MMS so I have to stick with the stock rom. (Boo!)
Sorry. Just need to vent a little. Hehe.
Anyway, I hope the next releases of either CK23 or Undead's roms will fix my mms issue. It might be only me who's having the problem.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Lily.
Yay! I'm happy to say that Undead's Doubleshot DeMyTouched v0.5 worked for me! I'm so happy.
Thank you Undeadk9 <3.
Lily.
I had some trouble with mms working when I was flashing a different phone a while ago. I don't know if you are using a program like titanium backup to restore things after you flash to your new rom, but if you are that could be your problem. If i restored anything mms or sms related from stock to a new rom, it would not let me send or receive mms......if I avoided restoring anything mms or sms related, it worked fine....
Hmm, I do use Titanium Backup actually. Haha. Maybe that was my problem. I'll give Tasteless Venom another go and will update back. Thanks yellowjacket.
Lily.
Taste venom doesn't use HTC setup wizard and that's where the problem lies. On sense based roms if you skip HTC setup or a ROM doesn't use HTC setup and is sense based, the ROM won't let people send or receive mms. Problem solved.

[Q] Please help im new and stuck! evo shift 4 g

Hi Everyone. I am trying to larn all this rooting and flashing thing! I have a rooted HTC Evo 4G. The Rom I am using is MIUI android 2.3.5 the kernel is 2.6.35.13-cyanogenmod. First off I need to know if this is the right rom to be using, I have a couple issues. One is that i dont have 4g anymore. Two is that my phone no longer works with my bluetooth in my car. Before it was rooted my phone hooked up to the car with no issues.
Most important like i said im tryng to learn, I had my phone rooted by someone else and have no idea how to flash a new rom or what I need to do so. So if someone could help me answer these questions and maybe direct me to where ever I need to go to learn, like flashing new rom for dummies! Thanks!!!
The reason your 4G isn't working is because it's not supported on MIUI. The ROM may be causing your bluetooth issue as well.
I can't really say if it's the right or wrong ROM, it's all about personal preference. You should probably look through the development section and see what ROM would best fit you. Also, there's several other threads on this section with people giving reviews/opinions of different ROMs..
As far as flashing ROMs, take a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1266885

idk too much about miui because I dont use it.
MIUI does not support 4G as of yet (and may not ever) thats just something you lose.
As for the other issues I really don't know and can't help you with
To flash a new ROM you have to do these steps.
Download the ROM of choice
Put it on your SD Card (anywhere)
On your phone turn it completley off and hold down the "Volume Down & Power" at the same time
*From this point you use the volume keys to scroll up and down and power to select options*
Go to recovery and select it
once in recovery (you will be able to tell) go down to factory/data reset and click ok
Once that is finished go to wipe cache and select it
Once that is finished go to -advanced- then wipe dalvik cache and select it
once that is done go to "install zip from sd card"
then go to "choose zip from sd card"
find the ROM you downloaded and select it and flash.
Depending on the ROM it will take from 1-5 minutes to complete flashing. Once done just go to reboot at the top
It is also recommended to do the "wiping" steps 2-3 times (steps 7-9)
edit: damn crump you beat me to it

thank you for your help. I have been reading and reading and I have a better idea as to what i need to do. Im in the process of downloading Mikshifted v1.6. I did not see anything about weather it supports bluetooth or 4g, do you have a suggestion as to what rom does if this does not? And do i need a different Kernnal?
Thank you!
MikShifted G v1.6 is fully functioning. Everything works, 4G, Bluetooth, WiFi, WiFi Tethering, USB Tethering, everything works. Plus it has a lot of extras. One thing I will say it cannot at the present time be OC'd. No you do not need to flash a different kernel with it. Believe me when I tell you it does not need it.

Everything should be working with MikShifted ROMs, as far as I know. Also, there's no custom kernels for Gingerbread Sense ROMs until htc releases the source code.

Oc'd is just short for overclocked. Basically, until htc releases the source you can't use any overclocked kernels so you'll have to run at 800mhz, but MikG is surprisingly quick for running stock

Very true . Thanks to all the great Devs on the Shift community we have choices to suit our personal preferences .
another issue for the newbie!
I recently flashed the mik rom v1.6 and loved it everything went smoothly until i realized I am not getting any text messages. and before i go back to the miui rom I was using i figured I would ask if anyone else had this issue?
Thanks
I did switch the rom and still have the same issue any suggestions?
My personal preference for ROM is CyanogenMod (CM). It has everything a person can need and more, but its not noob friendly by any means (I learned that the hard way! Muchos thanks to Root Master Crump for taking me off the straight and narrow!). I've tried a few other ROMs and its really all about personal preference, as others have said. I like being able to customize out the wazzoo, but if you're looking for speed/performance and ease of use, Mik is very solid.

You could try updating your prl and see if that helps.I think it's probably an issue with Sprint and not the ROM though. Maybe post something in the MikG thread and see if others are having issues.
I have talked to sprint and its not on their end. I have doing alot of reading and not on answer on how to get my texting back. I tried going back to mIui and still not texts coming in. Im lost any ideas out there?
You need to update your PRL and Profile. Then reboot the phone, but you have to be on Sense to do that. Also, as soon as you finish the flashing process. Send yourself an SMS/MMS. Before you start loading things onto the phone. That way it will help you narrow down the issue. So your sure it's not something your loading on the phone causing the issue.

MIUI, what happened?

So, I have done plenty of research and come across dead links and scary ads. And I have been flashing and flashing.. with no success. First, let me explain why i'm even typing this... because Miui, in my 2 day experience with it has been the cleanest rom ever, and i love it BUT......
I started with miui.com but since the Miui Devs haven't made a stable release for HTC Evo Shift they don't have a rom available to download there. Then i went to miui.us which was filled with roms! the only versions of Miui for HTC Evo Shift available are 2.3.23 and 2.3.30 and this would seem okay but unfortunately neither of those versions work correctly. And they don't contain just simple bugs. the PHONE app doesn't work unless 3g data is turned off (When trying to receive calls a "com.android.phone has stopped working" message will appear and it will when trying to call as well. after that it resets mobile network). i've been looking everywhere but i can't find a fix that will work.
I found a fix on a thread that promised to do the trick by replacing "framework.jar" in the /system/framework .zip file for installing. But i tried twice and came across the same problem
I just want a stable version of Miui for my precious HTC Evo Shift. Miui Pyromod ROM fixes the phone problem and it works on daily bases just fine but it still lacks stability. I WANT A PERFECT MIUI PORT FOR SPEEDY.
...and this is when you come in:
Do you guys have any links(more researching), ideas(ways to fix the phone app problem), will to help, or even fix the rom for us:laugh:?!
I have the last MIUI.us release for the shift with the phone app fix applied on my computer, I can try to upload it later for you.
Edit: I found it on my windows partition and starting to upload now, will be a minute though because I am downloading gigs worth of stuff at the same time.

I can always use testers gonna finish up on my MotoBlur ICS ROM and try and get back to MIUI V4. Or v5 whichever I can get working. We need a 4.0+ MIUI ROM... the EVO has like ten of them. We have one that was a WIP.
I'm so lonely!
has anyone experienced roms that will not send texts if they're over 160 characters? i know miui turns them directly into mms and it doesn't cause any problems. and i remember a rom gave me an option to "split sms" and it fixed it, but i dunno!

Well, if you want a solution for any rom, you can use GoSMS and in settings just check the "split messages" box
I think there was also a zip that you could flash to fix this somewhere...but it mightve been for certain android versions only
