So I was forced to execute my Inspire today. It was rooted, I've tried different roms/radios, flashed rooted stock rom/stock rom. It was never reliable: always dropping service, not receiving/making calls at random times, mms unreliable. I took it back to best buy to try to get it exchanged for a new one. Of course the phone was working flawlessly when I got to the store. The good news is that I had purchased the best buy protection plan for it at $10/month. I had enough of the phone not working reliably for its intended purpose and had to smash it in order to get a new unit. I went back to best buy and turned in the broken phone, and after more than a few suspicious looks from workers-got my phone sent in for repair. Of course it's not going to be repairable (I hit it with my baton , which crushed the screen and phone in the middle), so now I wait a few weeks for my new unit.
My question is, should I cancel my ATT contract and go with a different provider. I loved the actual phone, I just think the ATT "4G" service is horribly unreliable in my area. Or, are there any good Android 3G phones for ATT?
BTW, I am coming from an iPhone 4 before i got the HTC Inspire. iPhone worked awesome, I'm just tired of Apple products.
You can exchange/return your phone within 30 days so why the hell did you "smash" it?

If you were within the 30 days you had every right to just return it just because you wanted to.
I hope you get it all worked out. GL

I LOL'd when I read that
In my opinion, you have the best android phone AT&T has to offer...and on this thread? I think a lot of people will think the same thing. A lot of us inspire owners are previous captivate owners! That phone REQUIRED tweaking to get it to work smoothly (and for me, to get gps to work)
You could get the atrix, but there's not much tweaking/modding/flashing you can do with it due to a signed bootloader.
yeah, smashing it was a stupid thing to do.
cancelling your at&t contract will cost you a lot of money.
LOL, its crazy that someone has to go to those lenths to return a phone, but its true especially at stores like bestbuy its like ok so u want me to go in parking lot and run over it with my car a few times? then you will exchange it? and if u didnt have a problem with it why would u want a new one? Funny the smashing with baton part though.
^ he said, he was having problems.
i agree with others, you had 30 days to return it, i don't understand why you didn't just do that, and get another phone.

Right on... I also think $10 a month is crazy expensive.
For me, the Inspire has been a dream. Super stable... super fast... and I really haven't felt the need to root it.. yet.

yea, $10 a month is nuts, i only paid $50 for the entire phone!
I don't think any of your understood, lol. Best Buy refused to take it back because it was working fine in front of them. And I did literally say to the kid working there, "So if I take it out in the parking lot and run it over with my truck, you guys will take it back?" He replied, "Do what you gotta do, if you come in tomorrow with a broken phone I'll act like I didn't see you come in today."
BTW I paid full price for the phone ($450ish).
You can return it for ANY reason within 30 days. Doesn't have to be broken.

That's what I was thinking. I didn't want to push the issue and get the manager involved only to deny me getting a new phone. Then, I show up a few days later with a broken phone anyway. I will most likely be buying my next phone at Costco.

Bad day, got to work. Phone fell of desk and hit the floor. Shes alive, but there's lines going down the middle of the screen. I hear they ran out of tb's? I do have insurance but I don't want a diffident phone. I'm due for an upgrade, but i'm taking my unlimited with me. I don't want to blow $600 on a new phone, anyone know where I can get it repair for cheep. A legit company.
Thanks!
Sounds like Verizon has more tbolts according to other posts on the forums.
Look locally for an indie repair Guy. There's a Guy in my area (Boston) called iPhone Kurt who fixes all types of screen issues for $80 - $100 a pop.
But if you want to keep your unlimited data swappa.com is a great cheap place for a "newer" phone. If you have to travel down that way.

DIY via buying a replacement screen+digitizer on eBay will run you about $50. Personally, if it's between some stranger taking my phone apart for twice that or doing it myself, if I had the proper tools (which many of those replacement screens on eBay actually include..hmm..) hands down I'd do it myself.
By the way, was your Thunderbolt naked or did it have a case, screen protector?
If you have the time, I would consider doing it myself and save money.
Here are some good prices if you need a digitizer:
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-thunderbolt-touch-screen-digitizer-replacement.html
And here you go if you just need a screen:

Get both for a discount:
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-thunderbolt-4g-lcd-touch-screen-digitizer-replacement.html
I did have it in a case. Im rooted and tried changing the render fx. Its actually not that bad. But im going to go to my local mall and see if anyone can fix it
Goto www.cowboom.com
Tbolt current price is $139, Rezound is $289

Hi all,
I'm planning a 2-week trip to Canada (Ottawa->Montreal)starting next week. I'm currently on ATT. I'm pretty sure it will work in Canada.
Just wondering if there is any DATA-ONLY plan up in Canada that doesn't require contracts, probably pay-as-you-go kind of stuff, because it's only for 2 weeks. 2GB should be well more than enough, 1GB maybe also good enough.
I did google, Roger and Bell popped up, but I haven't used them at all, so I have no idea which one is good.
any input would be helpful
THANKS!

Yup. just figured that out. CAD$25 for 100 MB, then $0.15 for each MB.:crying:
If ur going to ottawa/Montreal, every Starbucks and MacDonalds u go to will have free wifi, as well as several if not all Tim Horton's and a bunch of other restaurants as well. Its obviously not as convenient as a constant data connection, but its free, and if u have no need to access time sensitive emails or the like, a decent alternative actually.

You definitely don't wanna make the same mistake I did and allow data to be on when roaming in Canada. I did that a couple years ago and the 15 minutes my data was turned on cost me $79 bucks for just a few MB of data. An AT&T rep disclosed to me that phones are forced to poll data back and forth on the network when you're roaming as a tactic to make you rack up data charges.

Alright this is more of the questions for the AT&T network not really the Samsung Infuse. Anyway, I want to upgrade my phone later on I will get the Galaxy Note 2 . Now, I'd like to upgrade but my parents do not want to allow it. I do however, have a store near me. Couldn't I just go to the store with my phone number or do I need any other information to help me upgrade ? Any advice is helpful thank you. I should probably also say that I don't have an upgrade available both my parents do, but i think i could use one of theirs. Im under 18, would that stop me either? (I got my tablet from walmart lol, i was fine on that.)

I believe they will require authorization from the one in charge of the account (one of your parents I suppose).
And not so sure about the upgrades, but I believe each one is specific to a phone line.

Is your present phone a 4g? If it is, you can go on line with ATT and upgrade one of your parents phones. When the phone arrives, all you have to do is switch out your sim card.....all your number info and all that stuff is on the sim card.
If you go into the store and you are not the account holder, they won't even talk to you.

I'm thinking this is a great way to get yourself into hot water pretty quick.
A better idea would be to work out something with your parents.
Try this link
Upgrading will extend your parent's contract another 2 years.
I'm sure they'll definitely notice that.
To qkster, I'll try again lol when the time comes. I've got a lot of money that I've earned/gotten, and they won't let me use any of it! It sits there (in a safe place, easily access able to me), finally gave up and spent some of it on my tab 2. I love that, and my phone but the gnote 2 could make things a lot easier, use less devices.

I'm sure they would not know, my mom lost a 7 year old flip phone with no plan to get her another soon, and my dad has a 5 year old flip phone too. They do not care about tech. Likely that since your parents are not tech savvy you can log into the att online portal using a username and password combo that they would normally use. From there you can add yourself as an authorized user and go into a store and wreak havoc. But honesty is the best policy.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
And just think, if something were to happen and they had to switch off of at&t or wanted to go somewhere else for service it would require them to pay roughly 800 bucks to terminate the contract. Not to mention the mandatory data charge for upgrading to a smart phone. They'd probably notice the extra 15 to 30 bucks a month.
As a parent myself who until this question thought I was still 'cool' (I'm slowly turning into a grumpy old man and its pissing me off) I'd most likely kill my kids of they tried what you are asking.

I like my Charge now that I'm able to run Tweaked 3 on it. It was the first 4g smart phone that Samsung put out. It's not perfect but at the time it was better than both the Thunderbolt and the Revolution. Of course all the later phones are better. What do you expect?
Of course it was overpriced. It's an early model. Look at the number of smart phones that have been sold since. A Commodore 64 computer was over $2,000. Look at what you get now for about $500. That's the way of electronics. It's the price we pay for being early adopters.
The only problem I have is terrible data signals at work. But that's a network problem. Verizon is having some trouble trying to implement 4g signal nationwide. That's to be expected. You didn't get ripped off. You just paid the price for being an early adopter.
All I hear is b*tching and moaning. When I bought this phone, it was the best one out. If I had to go back and buy again, I'd still pick this phone.

1. This is on EVERY phone. Have you even been to a Verizon store lately and played with a new one? IT STILL HAS BLOATWARE.
2. This is because most apps are now geared towards much more powerful devices. It's not the end of the world. And if you know about XDA, this shouldn't be a problem.
3. I've seriously never had a problem with this, and even very few on this forum have had an issue. Maybe it's operator error!
4. If this actually affected you, maybe you shouldn't have an android phone. Tethering apps were still very readily available.
5. Again, this was the best device out when it was new. You can't predict the future, so you're taking a gamble when you buy it. Most phones of this era are stuck on GB too. They never made ANY promises.
6. Okay, I have no response to this. It seriously sucks. But that's with EVERY phone, and your thread implies that it's the Charge's fault.

I feel wronged by Verizon because of losing unlimited data too. I was told when I shelled out the $299 for the phone that I would have unlimited data as long as I kept a smart phone on my account. I guess I understand why they've backed out of it. Too many 4g phones using unlimited data plus subsidizing all the new phones would be expensive. But still, they promised me I'd always have unlimited data. If I could get decent signal where I work I could listen to Pandora or stream an occasional Netflix movie and I could use up 2 GB data pretty easy. But as it is I don't use a lot of data. I would if I could. Believe me.
I was checking out the data coverage of the major cellular networks earlier today and it still looks like Verizon is the top dog. The others have quite a bit of catching up to do. I can upgrade on 1/22/12 with the discount. My contract ends in May. We'll see what develops. Since my Charge has become such a cool phone I don't mind using it for a while at all. It's getting a little beat up looking but that awesome Gorilla Glass screen is still in good shape.
It was the best phone at the time
I will say this, even though I listed all of those "issues," unlimited (grand-fathered) LTE made it all worthwhile. I don't regret getting the phone either.
When LTE first came out, it was faster than my home Fios connection. To be able to watch podcasts at work and not worry about the amount of data being used has been awesome. My neighbor cut our Fios line outside and we used the LTE connection as a hotspot for five devices in my house until it was fixed.
But I must admit that until buying this phone, I never would of thought to check the amount of memory utilization on a phone.
I also agree it was the best phone at the time on Verizon.
I can't wait for March and my next phone.

Yeah it's pretty much impossible to look at the new phones without wanting one when the one you have is so seriously under powered. If we weren't able to run a good debloated rom like Tweaked we'd be screwed. The Charge seriously doesn't have enough ram.

At the time I bought this phone, there were two 4G phones choices, and you had the option of a little more power under the hood with the Thunderbolt, or much better battery life (Like. 3X better. The battery life on the Thunderbolt was HORRID) and a better screen with the Droid Charge.
I wish there were more options with ROMs for this phone, but that's literally my only disappointment with it.
That said, my upgrade isn't far off, and I certainly look forward to a new phone, but c'est la vie. It's served me well for almost two years, now.

But I'd love for AOSP to be available on the phone, so we could move to ICS (And JB, and beyond) instead of being stuck with the whims of Samsung who decided to not upgrade the Charge to ICS because they couldn't also port TouchWiz...

That's a bash of the Verizon CLNR program more than it is the phones. When I had to send my Rezound back, it took 3 tries to get a "like new" replacement that was actually like new. The first replacement had a screen that was lifting completely off the phone. The second replacement's USB port died within 2 weeks. Their "100-point check" is a complete joke.
It took me three Charges to get a working one. First one had a software meltdown, and the second one wouldn't accept a charge. Now this one is having issues with data when on Tweaked (I'm running CM 10 so obviously i don't have data now, but the problems started earlier). Got another year before my upgrade...

I bought my charge as CLNR back in 9/2011 ($100 at the time, I think). still running great, thanks to this community.
