Hi all. I bought my Transformer with the TF700 dock in November and today I noticed the trackpad isn't working, i.e. it doesn't generate the blue mouse pointer when I swipe, and doesn't register any button clicks.
Is there any chance this is only a software issue? If so, how could I go about fixing it? I've tried shutting down and powering up again with no success, but I'm not very eager to do a factory reset because I have a ton of apps and files that would be a chore to save and restore...
[EDIT] Just to clarify, the dock *is* working apart from the trackpad, i.e. I get the keyboard and battery. USB mouse is also working.
There's a key on the top left above the 3 with an icon that looks like a trackpad with a diagonal stripe through it. Hit that

Happens to the best of us. Only reason I found it is because I have an Asus laptop with the same key, and i had the same problem two years ago

Track Pad Asus 700
Hi I've registered just to say thank you.
The track pad on my tablet was not working (I did not read the manual) and I send a query to Asus technical sevice and Viviana Carranza, Asus Latinoamerica told me I was to ship the tablet and dock service technical, as it was under warranty, but as I live in Argentina I was to send everything to USA, I was distressed by the cost and time. I casually I read your reply, you're right:

Here is, just finished, the Phone Pad Dark skin..
I melted the vocabularies of the various languages, from the phone pad international, with the Dark Phone Pad skin...
I do not know if there was something like this already, but I did not found it so I have made myself
I'll be working tomorrow to make a new skin..
As Gico has pointed out, there already done the same thing

I have taken the Dark skin, and then there I added different languages .. I do not know that there already with all languages
so... now, I apologise to McCune, I'm going to edit the first post, and i'm going to make another skin... ok?
Oh, Just for say: In my Phone Pad I tourned off by default the sound of the keys (I hate it), I do not know if this is also in the Phone Pad of Mccune..

Hey guys, do you know what it means? The number 1 key and 6 key have circles as well as the up and down key.
It's an Asus trend. All of their keyboards have the same thing. Check out their other laptops. As to why, it's the same answer as "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop".

Haha, wow. Well thanks for answering. Sure is weird.
(Please feel free to ignore the first two paragraph until the problem).
First of all, I would like to thanks everyone in this forum for the excellent extensive help. I been hanging around the corner here for a little while (... perhaps 2 or 3 months?) and finally I hit dead bottom. I been buscando la verdad (just learned this phrase the other day... anyway,) for a while in this labyrinth world and I just happen to meet this minotaur over and over again. So I finally decided: once I gain the proper knowledge, I will aid to those who need help.
So my problem is quite "noobish" actually. And I must admit, I'm quite a noob in the field of Android (but strangely that contradict for me in Windows). After watching that "for noobs" video, I certainly feel so much more noobish. So any expert out there, please accept my apologies for my oblivious questions. I hope you will hear me.

Problem Starts Here:
I recently bought a Transformer on Black Friday and I must say: I'm certainly pleased. Still, its power are much still concealed and I make plans to destroy that barrier. I wanted to install Ubuntu, but as my research continues, I learned that such was not possible for newer models. This is only possible for devices with serial code "B60-" and under and some "B70-"; however I my code completely split off that trend. Instead, my serial begin with something like "037c7..."
Even with this, I continue on and try some tools such as Frank's tool.
Please, can anyone help me? I would be especially grateful for a guide for such "noobs" like me. I know this is much to ask for and I certainly shall express a gratitude as equally high. Thank you very much for hearing my problem and more than ever if you can assist me.
you aren't looking at the serial then, but rather looking at something else, ALL asus serial numbers start with a date code which is Bx (will be Cx in a couple of weeks time) have a look at the bottom of the tablet there will be a sticker that has S/N: BxOKASxxxxxx

Yes, it is, because they take up the main spot, and in Jellybean, that means no expanded notifications for things like Music, Email, or other apps, and you can easily tap it without meaning to.

Snicker, then what should I use, smoke signals?
I do have to admit they got irritating in JB. Used to be in ICS you could click them away when they popped up. Now, they open the menu screen/file manager when you tab themI want to read the right side of my screen, not the notification of the SD card I inserted on purpose, and thus know it's there.... It's rather irritating.
Still not a reason to start demanding other people to fix it. Or did you think this was the official Google Android developement forum?

Well, you could always use -- --- .-. ... . -.-. --- -.. .
I kinda hear where he's coming from though. When you have a dock and a sdcard in, there's no way to eject the storage in a single click. If we could swipe them away until redocked etc, it would allow for more use to be made of the expandable notification system. Supposedly, there is another update to the notification system in 4.2. Hopefully we'll find out what that entails on the 29th.
edit: if you disable the file manager, the click on storage won't open anything. You can always install another file manager. I know it's not ideal, just more of a workaround.
They currently cannot be disabled. I'd be thankful i you indeed would be less 'lazy' then all the others in here, and more knowledgeable to boot, and solve it for us mere mortals.
I'd recommend the easy way out: to unlock and install CM10, which doesn't have these notifications.

That was the sound o f you little pet theory going up in smoke. Just to prove it's not that easy to tweak the system.
I completely agree that the notification are pretty useless - my problem is with how he was "asking" for someone to stop being lazy and fix it the correct way - like anyone owes him anything.
It's nothing to do with being "lazy" - it's just something that is not that easy to change - it's seems that the OP thinks developers can wave some sort of magic wand to make these types of changes. There is a *lot* of time and work involved in changing something like this!
Thank all of the XDA developers for all of the work that they *have* done! If you show some appreciation (in terms of "thanks", or even better, $$$), that goes a long way in getting the developers to work with you and implement changes such as this.

I'm not sure who you are referring to, but if you are referring to me: a) I haven't been flaming one bit - that's all you. b) I never even mentioned anything about disabling any notifications for the service mentioned above (or any other service), so c) you might want to re-read who posted what while removing *your* foot from *your* mouth, as you so politely put it.
You seem to have issue with knowing what polite is! That's what we are trying to help you with - asking someone politely to help with this issue, since we would all like to see a solution to this. However, since you don't seem to be mature enough to actually ask for help like a grown up, I will gladly leave your thread.

Why not contribute a bit to the TF700 community before starting to attack somebody? Alright, here's the story. --
I bought this refurbished Transformer tf700t, and eventually got around to rooting it. The only issue I had with that was downgrading the build from 10.6.1.14.10 to 10.6.1.14.8.
Easy peasy, no problem.
Next, obviously to install a custom ROM, I needed to unlock the thing. It gave me a network error, which I found was because I didn't register with Asus. I go to do that, only to find that the serial number is unknown.
I've browsed for about 5 hours now, and I'm almost positive that it's impossible at this point to get the serial to register to unlock, or for that matter, unlock at all.
So this thread is more about 'Am I actually screwed' or is there another way around the network error/register issues?
ahh crap, I posted this to general instead of Troubleshooting.

He gave me the actual serial number based off the Mac address of my tablet, and thankfully, it worked with the device tracker. sort of.

So now I'm just trying new things to see what will work.

If you have blocked the OTA files, froze them, or deleted them, it won't let you unlock, FYI. If you restore them, you can unlock if this is your problem.

If this is the case would I get that dammed network error from the unlock tool? I had to downgrade to 10.8, so maybe that messed things up. Is there a way to check and see if I've blocked them, or deleted them?

I have read and followed dozens of this stories and have never read that frozen or removed "OTA files" (????) have anything to do with it - and I seriously doubt it.
The most common reason for the unlock tool not to work is that your serial number or MAC address of the main board are not registered on their server in Taiwan. This happens most often after a RMA return, but sometimes out of the box.
You need to be persistent, keep pestering them that you insist on being able to use their device tracker service.
You could even tell them OTA updates are not working.
The regional help centers seem to loath having to contact HQ in Taiwan to get this fixed. And they are the only ones who can.

Bad News, I am afraid. I too have a refurbished Infinity with the same problems. After 3 weeks of emailing Asus support they finally told me they only allow new units to use their services (unlocking ,OTA's and device tracking). Something that they do not disclose when they are trying to sell it to you. Unless there is a change in policy at Asus we are screwed. If we had bought a secondhand unit we would be looked after better by Asus.
