[Q] Can't unlock my htc one x bootloader. - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi,
I just got the HOX for at&t about a week ago, never thought about rooting OR unlocking the bootloader until recently when a friend borrowed my samsung galaxy s vibrant and asked if they could root it til they got their phone fixed. Got to thinking of how cool it would be if my one x was rooted, did the research on how to root it and hit a snag. I followed all the steps on HTCdev to the T, pasted my identifier token and hit submit and all i got was
"We're sorry, but it appears your attempt to unlock the bootloader on this device has failed. This could be caused by several factors including simple errors in the entry of the unlock token, problems with your device, or a lack of manufacturer support for the unlocking process. Please see the specific error code listed below, and try again if necessary.
Error Code: 160.
Error Reason: MID Not Allowed."
Anyone know wth is wrong? I haven't found another thread with the same problem as mine, too many to go through. would really like to experience the root benefits but this is killing me! =[

AT&T blocks the official method. What firmware are you on?

If you're on the latest firmware (3.18) you'll need to follow this method to unlock your bootloader.

I'm currently running on android version 4.0.3

Ok, you need to reboot to the bootloader and tell us what it says.
Hold the volume down button and the power button at the same time, the button lights will flash a bunch of times. When the screen goes blank let go of the power button but keep holding volume down. This will bring you to the bootloader.

Download the latest Android SDK with adb and download HTC Sync from the HTC website and it'll install the drivers. That SHOULD solve your problems.

What's wrong with asking if his drivers are up to date? A locked phone can still connect to a PC can it not.

[Q] Selling my One S, making it stock?

Hi. I'm selling my phone since I've bought HTC One Black. So... is there a way to erase everything and make it as it was stock?
Guess I need to do this:
1. S-Off to S-On
2. Flash this: villec2-jb-crc-3.4.10-055bd56.zip from http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
3. Remove root
?
I just received an OTA update but it can't be installed, so therefore I want to make it stock so that the new user won't experience any problems...

Your are S-OFF?
So you need to follow this instrucition:

Some phones early phones were shipped S-Off. You do not need to S-Off. Just go back to stock and change the bootloader back to locked.

You have to update your HBOOT in order to flash 3.16.401.8 RUU, I've got problems flashing this RUU too. You need hboot 2.15 for this, if you're s-off you can easy update it following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39216236&postcount=274 remember to change your CID to SUPER CID: 11111111 or you may have issues flashing hboot.

Well based on my reading here, I can say the following can be the reasons:
- Unlocked bootloader
- Phone Rooted
- Any of the bloatware removed/changed in the phone which came pre-installed.

I used TWRP Recovery, I thought it would be easier. More rom.zip tried, but each one says the recovery that:
This operation may install Incompatible software and render your device unusable.
The Cid HTC_032 or O2_001 cause such a problem if you do not have the correct rom?
Watch it.
A cid is always 8 digits as far as i have seen.
Watch here also. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2139447
It probaly wont install because of custom recovery/ or incorrect cid
Check cid in fastboot to be sure.
Command: fastboot getvar all
If you unlock again. It might format the device again. (needed to install stock recovery)

[Q] One X AT&T - bootloader issue

I will probably be flogged for this....
Last year I was able to unlock the bootloader, root and flash an AT&T One X I took delivery of in November, 2012.
I just got another one (warranty issue) and Im currently trying to unlock the bootloader of the new one so that I can root and flash. I did this last year without any issue, I was able to follow a series of idiot proof instructions and everything went as planned. This phone is however is being an being an ass. I have tried the HTCdev method and got a 'MID not allowed error. I've tried various procedures in these forums but the furthest I've gotten is...."press enter to unlock bootloader", which I do.....but it just sits there. I can only assume this is because this factory version is newer than mine WAS - so any help directing me to the correct method for a BOOTLOADER unlock and ROOT process for a 4.1.1 XL would make my eyes sparkle.
If I'm not mistaken, my process last year was bootloader unlock, push TWRP, root, flash. Here are the specs:
By the way, I'm on a mac, so I need terminal instructions. A 'one click method' for windows wont work for me.
The NEW phone has a bootloader screen stating:

Don't have SuperCID, but I'm rooted.
The rom worked fine for a bit, but now I cannot connect to mobile networks and cannot make or receive calls. I can deal with a lot of problems with my phone, but not this is not one of them.
Another important glitch for CleanRom is that I cannot mount the SD card. I can do it through Fastboot and TWRP, but not inside the OS. This severely limits what I can do to the phone, and I haven't found anything to fix it.
Okay, so basically I need a new rom.
Cannot do anything through USB so I transferred .zip onto the phone and flash through TWRP.

Couldn't access the Spoof-CID.zip file because the website was glitched and wouldn't allow it. I found another Spoof-CID here: http://d-h.st/nSk
Hoping it's the right file I run it, and I get
"Restarting ADB
Pulling files
Checking files
Couldn't pull files from device. Your device is not altered.
Press any key to continue..."
I tried this: http://www.talkandroid.com/113533-att-htc-one-x-bootloader-unlocked/ so changed the CID to think it was Rogers. Got sent an unlock token by HTC and I flashed it, but there was supposed to come on the screen a disclaimer on step 13 (Step 13 On your phone you will now see the disclaimer..) nothing happened. Can I use this method to get SuperCID?

Hey again, I managed SuperCID and S-OFF as you suggested. Someone else, also a Senior Member, told me that RUU while S-OFF would brick. Is this 100% sure not true?
S-on = brick. S-off you're okay

S-on = brick.
S-off = safe.
Either you misunderstood or they were wrong.

Don't have SuperCID, but I'm rooted.
1. The rom worked fine for a bit, but now I cannot connect to mobile networks and cannot make or receive calls. I can deal with a lot of problems with my phone, but not this is not one of them.
2. Another important glitch for CleanRom is that I cannot mount the SD card. I can do it through Fastboot and TWRP, but not inside the OS. This severely limits what I can do to the phone, and I haven't found anything to fix it.
Okay, so basically I need a new rom.

1. Did you check your APNs? And add the one for your network?
2. A lot of Sense ROMs now have the glitch/bug that the sd card does not mount properly, with the dev options on and USB Debugging on It should auto mount as a portable media player (crap transfer speeds though)
Going to an AOSP ROM fixed my sdcard issues. Always be s-off before doing anything crazy.

[Q] Can I update Android version w/o AT&T service?

I just bought a used AT&T version of the HTX One X. I will eventually activate it with an AT&T MVNO but am not ready to do that now. The Android version is 4.0.4 and when I try to update it via wifi, I get a "no server found" which I assume it means no AT&T server. Is it possible to update the software OTA automatically or do I have to use the HTC sync manager and do it manually?
You can just use an RUU to update the phone. You can use the 3.18 RUU, which is Android 4.1 and Sense 4+. Or you can use the 5.18 RUU, which is Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5.
It's very important that we check a couple of things first though. First I need to see your bootloader details, to boot into the bootloader there are two methods.
With phone powered on
Hold the volume down button, then hold the power button (so you're holding both buttons together), the button lights will start to flash, they will stop flashing and the screen will go blank, after a couple of seconds let go of the power button but continue to hold the volume down button until you reach the white screen with text, this is your bootloader.
With phone powered off
Hold the volume down button, then hold the power button (so you're holding both buttons together), after a couple of seconds let go of the power button but continue to hold the volume down button until you reach the white screen with text, this is your bootloader.
Please post the first five lines.
The second thing I need to check is your CID. You will need to have adb & fastboot installed on your PC as well as HTC drivers (which are automatically installed when you install HTC Sync Manager. Once you have everything setup connect your phone to your PC in bootloader mode and issue this fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
Please post the results here. Do not under any circumstances rush ahead and run any RUU before I can check these things, if your phone is in a certain state the RUU will brick it.

How does the normal OTA update work? Does it get s-off somehow before flashing the new ROM?

No, s-off can only be obtained by deliberate action from the user. The OTA update doesn't work on a phone with SuperCID. You might not have SuperCID but we must make sure of that because s-on + SuperCID + jb RUU = brick.

I tried this and it said "waiting for device" but nothing happened. The phone is on the bootloader screen. I don't have a SIM installed since I am not ready to activate. Is that required to update the software?

What OS are you running on your PC? Have you installed HTC drivers? No SIM card is required to check the CID.

1) Windows 7
2) Yes
I ran the HTC Sync Manager and it saw the phone so the connection was good. I was on the main bootloader screen (where I got the other info you asked for). Is that right?

Leave the HTC driver installed but uninstall HTC Sync then try again.
Does "My HTC" show up under the Android Devices node of the Device Manager tree while in the bootloader? They are listed alphabetically, so you should see it right on top, before Computer.
You will also need to get into Fastboot mode on the phone. If you're at the root bootloader menu that lists Fastboot/Recovery/Factory Reset/etc, you will need to highlight Fastboot with the volume rocker and select it using the power button. The Fastboot label should then change to Fastboot USB.

Yes, My HTC shows up in Device Manager.
My CID is CWS__001
So is it safe to update to 4.2.2 now?

Now you can just run the RUU. Don't relock your bootloader or anything, just connect your phone to your PC in f fastboot mode and run the RUU exe program through Windows. Make sure HTC Sync Manager is uninstalled, make sure no other programs are running, make sure screen saver and hibernation are turned off.
Download it here:
