[Q] One X AT&T - bootloader issue - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I will probably be flogged for this....
Last year I was able to unlock the bootloader, root and flash an AT&T One X I took delivery of in November, 2012.
I just got another one (warranty issue) and Im currently trying to unlock the bootloader of the new one so that I can root and flash. I did this last year without any issue, I was able to follow a series of idiot proof instructions and everything went as planned. This phone is however is being an being an ass. I have tried the HTCdev method and got a 'MID not allowed error. I've tried various procedures in these forums but the furthest I've gotten is...."press enter to unlock bootloader", which I do.....but it just sits there. I can only assume this is because this factory version is newer than mine WAS - so any help directing me to the correct method for a BOOTLOADER unlock and ROOT process for a 4.1.1 XL would make my eyes sparkle.
If I'm not mistaken, my process last year was bootloader unlock, push TWRP, root, flash. Here are the specs:
By the way, I'm on a mac, so I need terminal instructions. A 'one click method' for windows wont work for me.
The NEW phone has a bootloader screen stating:
***LOCKED***

Trying various methods isn't going to work, there's only one root method for your firmware, it's the 3.18 root method. Click the Everything Evita link in my signature, navigate to the root section, click the 3.18 root method link, follow instructions.
PS. Questions go in the q&a section for future reference.

Sounds like you need to read and do some more research before attempting this.
Just because the HTCDEV.com site doesn't list your specific DesireS version doesn't mean you can't use it.
Part of the unlocking process will involves generating a key on your phone and this is what drives the unlock process, not the selection you made on the HTCDEV.com screen.
Read and search the sticky posts on this forum.
Well, i got some steps forward in this prosses.
I got the bootlock, unlocked, and rooted with super one click, as in this >>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20701305#post20701305<< guide. but when it comes to the: adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version commend, i get the error: Unable to chmod /data/local/tmp/misc_version: No such file or directory
Whats have i done wrong now?

Did the previous adb push command work? More than likely you received an error and the misc_version file did not get copied to the phone.
no, forst time i got that message was ther, and i tried again, and the same.
Hmm, maybe you can restore a backup from before you tried to root it. Then use this guide to root it again. Look at the discription!
That one worked perfectly for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399331&page=3
This is the guide I used, I had to add a bit to 2 of the commands for mine to work but it done the trick.
When typing.
adb push zergRush /data/local/tmp
I added /zergRush
adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp I added /misc_version
Also there are 2 misc file choices in the link, use the second 1 misc_version02 zip, unzip all files into the folder on c:

please try to other methods of downgrade/S-OFF. Using the htcdev method has two big disadvantages:
1. You may void your guarantee
2. You will have to flash the boot image after every rom change/backup restore
of course......

no, it means your bootloader is ok, and using alternatives methodes you can easily find in the INDEX you can keep it
that way.

Guys..i didnt want to create one more thread with a question so i am asking it here. The only reason I am talking about myself that i want to root my device is because i want to delete all the crap that it had pre-installed.Is it possible by using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399331&highlight=zergrush to gain temproot then go delete the crap and go back to the original state without them or i MUST flash a new official rom without the crap? Phone info:HBOOT 2.00.0002 and software version 2.10.163.5
Guys is this possible? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1245334 ?? I just found it and it might be helpful to others as well!
If you do this, you have to use a old RUU. That means you are going to install al old version of HBOOT. Revolution can only work with a old HBOOT. But when you install that RUU. You also get a old version of the software and also a old Sense version. You may choose to use that. But i think you do not want that. So after you have done that all, you have to install a new ROM. And you may choose which rom that will be.

Well lets make it clear..Right now i have 2.10.163.5 software version..If i download a newer software version (newer RUU) and instal it will it debrand the phone?(Without using rooting tools and stuff).Because that's what the second link i posted says...
So all you want is debrand the phone. I dont know how to do that. I have seen a few topics about that. I also do not know if you loose your warranty when you do that.
hmm i see mate..Well at least someone who knows should tell us if what i posted is valid and we can do it without bricking the phone..

I don't know if you already fixed it, but a guy named Desire Fanatics did a video on how to unroot and S-ON. I didn't post 8 posts yet, so i cant link it, but if you search for him on Youtube, you should be able to find the video. It's one of his most recent. Remember to watch the comments, because if i recall correctly, some people had some kind of error show up. I don't think they meant anything though.

That tutorial works well as long as all you've done is rooted and S-off'ed. But if you've been using Custom ROMs, especially those that are ports from newer HTC phones, the tutorial lacks instructions regarding changing the Misc_version before using the RUU (at least that was the case the last time i checked). That can get you an error and stop the process midway, with a screwed up system. So tread carefully. Remember, you need to address both the CID and the Misc_version before an RUU upgrade is succesfully done.

I had the same thing happened to me, it's irritating to see this happen. All it took for me to fix, was to follow the guide provided here.
All I had to do was S-off, Unlock, ClockWork, Root, SuperCID & S-on again. Please let me know how it goes!
Sorry to give you bad news, but you can't use that guide to gain S-off again. You have to be in hboot 1.18 or earlier for revolutionary to work. And you're S-on with hboot 1.27, so no luck there.
My recommendation is to be patient and wait for revolutionary to update, otherwise, you will be wasting a lot of time trying what's out there right now.
There's a lot of people trying to help those who are in the same situation as us (I'm S-on with hboot 1.23), but so far, no method have worked for hboot 1.20, 1.23 nor 1.27.
The only thing you could do is unlock the bootloader with htc dev (don't do it if you don't want to lose your warranty), install a custom recovery (I use 4ext) and then try an ICS ROM or restore a NAND backup if you did one previously. But first read, read, and then read a little more before doing anything else to your phone.

There's something you can try first: Find the ROM.zip of the RUU you installed, extract the boot.img and flash it with fastboot with the command fastboot flash boot boot.img. That, probably, will let you boot and use your phone normally.
You can follow this guide and try your luck trying to go back to S-off: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469296.
Remember to read carefully everything before attempting anything.
About htcdev:
Here is diagram of the process http://htcdev.com/bootloader/preview_unlock_process and there you have a link to the F.A.Q. too.
Then, you register here http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ and start the process following all the instructions that they give you.
About Revolutionary:
Only them could know that. There is a firmware version with an hboot 1.27 already unlocked by them, so they are still working on the project.
It can be fixed but you updated your h-boot to 1.27, I think it's bricked and I recommend you to send it to the htc
I have the same problem, I went S-ON and on stock GB rom, then installed the OTA update from HTC, now it won't boot. I think I will wait for the 1.27 RUU because I have unlocked the bootloader and don't think HTC will repair it for free.
I'm gonna send it in for support and hope they will fix it

Newbie Here

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased an AT&T HTC One X and I want to unlock bootloader and eventually root the phone. After some reading and following a few tutorials I am stuck. I just want to clear a few things up. First i followed htc AIO toolkit tutorial to unlock my htc through htcdev but error came up. I read further and saw people mentioning that I need to have s-off to unlock bootloader. I am just a little confused and would appreciate if someone would guide me in the right direction as to what steps to take to accomplish me unlocking bootloader and rooting my phone and maybe in the future to flash some custom roms.

I do apologize if this has been asked before
You do not need s-off to unlock bootloader. Get supercid then unlock bootloader, then gain root, then optional but recommend gain s-off. For us to help you need to give the current firmware of your device. To do this, restart your phone and hold down the volume down button until you are in the bootloader screen. Give the info you see at the very top.
My phone info is as follows

I'm assuming you have 3.18 with that stock hboot but double check in settings to be safe. If you are 3.18 just follow the steps on how to gain supercid/unlock/root for 3.18. You can go to the FAQs stickied here for getting you to the right direction.
yes my Software number is
3.18.502.6710RD
for 3.18 I first need to get supercid/unlock before I can root? Are those the steps I need to take?
Yes in that order
To be more specific, you need to use the 3.18 root method to get temp root which also gets you SuperCID. Just any SuperCID method won't work. Click the Everything Evita link in my signature, within that resource thread navigate to the root section and click on the 3.18 root method link and follow those instructions. Once that's done you can go to htcdev and unlock your bootloader, then install TWRP 2.6 recovery.

My ultimate goal is to return to stock.Unforunately I made a vital error awhile ago and wipe everything including my nandroid. I did have a copy on my pc but for whatever reason TWRP would not recognize it.Therefore I first wanted to try to get S-off so I could then just RUU back or flash a stock at&t rom.
I tried rumrunner and I followed the steps and it seemed like it should have worked but it still showed S-on. Reading through the posts it was suggested to be on 4.1 or below. I then tried to install MDOB v1. However, it installed but there was no touchscreen function. Searching through the forums for touchscreen downgrading firmware all answers seemed to lead to one thread in the sticky which is now deleted.
Do you have the at&t model? What is your CID?
