Installing apps onto the external SD card? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just rooted a couple of days ago and flashed cyanogen, but it seems to lack this option, which is an issue on 8gbs.. Any work around?
Any alternative roms that allow this?

Google took the ability to store apps on the sd card out of android in their honeycomb os and has not looked back since.
There are ways around this, but they all pretty much require you to root the device at a minimum to "unlock" it.
From there it is just a matter of which way to accomplish it. There are some roms floating around that could restore the ability of app2sd functionality, as well as some tweaks that will swap the sd card with internal storage so you can utilize up to 64gb sd cards on most devices.
I do not have the links, but others here do. Quick searches may find them or someone may come along and post them for you. All I can think of is the Link2SD app.

You didnt say what tab you have, but check these two threads for additional info-

[Q] Onboard 4 gigs sufficient for apps??

I'm in the process of deciding whether I get the Inspire or wait for the Infuse. I'm new to smart phones, but been reading a ton.
My question; is the 4 GB on the Inspire sufficient for the numerous apps I am likely to put on it? I think I've read about apps that let you place apps on the mSD. Is this even a concern I need to worry about?
Thanks for the help. Searched the forum and didn't see this addressed. Probably means it's a dumb question. I'm trying to get smart
Unless your going to have a couple hundred apps you shouldnt really worry to much.

I've downloaded plenty of apps and never even gotten close to using up the internal memory. I move what I can to the SD card, usually (it's not hard to do, and it's a feature built into the phone now).
Ditto, you'd have to work pretty hard to fill up that space, most programs are pretty small. But remember that many applications now support the A2SD function, so in the unlikely event that you start running out of room, moving them to your SD card is an option. I notice very little performance difference between apps on the card and apps run internally.

Rediculous! Can't move apps to SD!

Is there an app that will allow me to move apps/games to ext sd on Note 10.1? (Not Rooted). Thanks.
if you aren't willing to root then you are gonna have to live with it. apps to sd was killed with ICS. you can easily reset your status and unroot for warranty purposes using the multitude of threads related to these issues. just an fyi, a lot of folks won't be as nice explaining this, be warned. someone may offer you cheese for your whine. they have done this to sell you the 32gb. I load my sd with music, pictures, and movies. I don't download big apps so it's no problem for me. but those are the facts. don't shoot the messenger
Thanks for info. I appreciate it.
If you root, there's an app called directory bind. Works perfect for me.

If you root, links2sd is a nice easy hack as well. Makes my old HTC Desire just about usable...
you have no choice but to root if you want to move app data to a sd card, its the best thing you can do tbh.

Guess you are right. Shame tho. IMO
No there is no way without you rooting even if you root you need to have int-d support for you to be able to do that it is not a simple thing n hence would not advice
Mind you. if you root then you can use a 64gb sd card as the internal memory with a mod in developement section. Just don't remove sd card if you use....

SD Card

I have a SD Card in my phone but I cannot transfer any app to the sd card. I did this before for games and large apps. On my old phone, it would just move the app itself and leave the data on my phone.
I noticed the actual phone storage is /sdcard and the actual sdcard is /external1.
Is there a way to change this or work around it? I'm rooted if that helps.
I believe google actually removed the ability to do this on 4.0+ that said yes, i believe there are ways to do this still but it does require some hackery to make it work. I think cyanogenmod still can do this so once that rom is more ready for prime time that may be an easier solution. Someone else here likely has a better answer for you.

[Q] A couple of questions for my new S3

So I just got rid of my iphone 4 and upgraded to an s3. It's been a while since I've had an android device. I have read that since ICS, there is no longer an apps to sd function. I was wondering if rooting would be able to give that feature again. I have tried to find it in another thread and have had no luck. Thanks in advance.
Well, considering you have 16 GB of onboard storage, you don't really need it. I'm using a 16gb black s3 and stuck a 64gb micro SD card in for music and such. I probably won't come close to filling it.

No, rooting won't work because the apps to SD function was axed starting with Android 4.0's unveiling. Only phones that ran Android 2.3 or below can have that function.
Edit: never mind, apparently there's a hack that's available. Lol

[Q] Swap File, External Apps Partion, etc.

Hello people,
I got my Xperia L a couple of days ago and I have it running successfully with Vengeance + Clean n Tweaked after a loooot of tries.
This is my first Android phone after HTC Wildfire! Loving it so far [Was uber slow out-of-the-box though]
Anyway I want to know how beneficial it is to create a swap file on the External SD card and use it. Does it make a big difference in performance? If yes how do I achieve this?
Secondly I really want to be able to move user apps to External Storage. I tried moving them from within the Clean Master app and it did work BUT when I restart my phone the Xperia Home(launcher) app keeps crashing(until the SD card is initialized I guess). The easy fix is to open the notification bar or something for a minute before going back into to the Home Screen. So yes this kinda works. Just want to know if there's a better way.
One idea comes to mind is making a separate ext2/3/4 partition on the External SD Card and using that for user apps. Will the home launcher still crash? I really don't want to use a custom launcher. If this is possible how do I do it?
I read about the mod to make External memory as Internal. Does everything work correctly with that? However if partitioning is possible I would prefer that as opposed to using the whole External SD Card as internal memory.
Lastly, since I don't have 10 posts yet I can't post to DEV threads yet so I want to thank people from about 10 to 15 different threads which I referred to in the last 24 hours. lol!
p.s. I have a SanDisk 32GB Class 10 Micro SD Card

Thanks for the reply. I read all about the app and I think It MIGHT cause trouble at some point so I'm gonna stay away from it for now. Maybe when I want to play a HUGE game I'll use it. Good to know how to!
Anyone wants to shed some light regarding the swap file question?
