[Q] A couple of questions for my new S3 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

So I just got rid of my iphone 4 and upgraded to an s3. It's been a while since I've had an android device. I have read that since ICS, there is no longer an apps to sd function. I was wondering if rooting would be able to give that feature again. I have tried to find it in another thread and have had no luck. Thanks in advance.

Well, considering you have 16 GB of onboard storage, you don't really need it. I'm using a 16gb black s3 and stuck a 64gb micro SD card in for music and such. I probably won't come close to filling it.

No, rooting won't work because the apps to SD function was axed starting with Android 4.0's unveiling. Only phones that ran Android 2.3 or below can have that function.
Edit: never mind, apparently there's a hack that's available. Lol

[Q] Port Android on Samsung 5600(Preston)?

I'm new to this, and I know this was discussed plenty times here.
But I still didn't find the answer and maybe things "updated"/changed.
Im asking for phone Samsung GT-S5600 Preston that I have. It is TouchWiz based phone and...you can't get any of those cool applications that are available for Android. For example I want to get the MarketEnabler on it so I could get some apps( I really want Astro File Manager so I could install .apk files on my phone).
There are just java things working on it. And also android system is much better.
And Samsung has already some Android phones. So is there any way to port Android(2.1?) on it and replace it with TouchWiz?
Any help is appriciated.
Thanks in advance
Sorry for double posting but this is sad. I mean this site seems pretty active, but this thread has 37 views and no replies, and already down on third page of the forum...Nobody?
Questions and Answers section forum is useless here really..Most of the threads dont even have one reply even if they have 500 views..sad.
There is a way I'm sure but honestly why not get a Samsung phone that already runs android and the market? Seems like a lot of unnecessary work.

Yeah you're right. But i'll have to have this phone for next 5 months, then I can buy a new one..And im so impatient I can't wait with this crap phone and untill that I want to find if there is any way to get anroid on it.
I got into some problems like that back when I was running the old xv6700. I hate the whole 1 or 2 year contract scheme.

[Q] Questions about the vibrant S 4g

I was thinking of getting the vibrant 4g but I have a couple of questions:
1. I already have the original sasmung vibrant on t-mobile. Is it worth it to upgrade to this phone?
2. How is the batery life on this? The original vibrant lasted me about a day so Im hoping for something longer.
3. How does the phone run with the 1gb internal memory? Does it cause any
limitations/ annoyances? Since most apps dont have the option to install
to the sd card, im a little worried about this.
It's a good device. yes the battery life is a bit short since the 4g radio is running. Plus it depends on what you do on it. But you got to get it rooted to make this device your own. We dont have any cool roms yet but they are coming. About the 1gb intern storage is lame but once you root the device your good with apps like app2sd and others. Plus their are tricks to getting you more space. But its really up to you. Tmo is getting some cool phones in the next few months like the gx2(this month) and others. So I would say if you want custom roms out the box then stay with that awesome vib, but wait for a device you really like. I hated this phone at first until I started learning about android and what this thing can and cant do.

Moving app data to sd card?

Hi,
I would like to know how I can move app data to my SD card.
I understand Samsung have purposely disabled the feature which sucks.
I'm on stock jb at the moment.
Noob instructions would be greatly appreciated
check out my topic i made earlier, the only way to bypass this is to root, i'm still waiting for for a reply to my topic on how to do it.

There is no easy way of doing it you need to have int-d to do it and even then its not an easy solution
Unfortunately its not Samsung but google which has developed the new version in such a way that you cannot move apps one of the reason being their concept that there should be only one memory and hence there is no sd card slots in nexus devices

I think I might just return my device then.
11GB is nowhere near enough!
Edit: Definitely returning for a refund.
What's the next best tab to go for?
I only went for the Note 10.1 because there was a great deal on where I saved around £90-£130 ($130-$200)

You could get a 32GB model.
ive done it the zedomax way i have 64gb iternal now downside of this is wen transfering movies from pc to tab takes ages
I wish I had got the 32 gig model now but I wasn't expecting this problem, I just have to manage my space a bit more proactively. As I want to use my 64 gig card with exfat (to store films over 4 gig) I have do clockwork backups to my internal SD and then copy them across to get the space back. This is far from ideal but I have got used to it now.
I found that using my SD card as internal SD slowed my device to much for my liking.
I had a 64 gig sd card in mine and I noticed that recovery mode would not see that 64 gig card which was a real pain when trying to use different roms. I put my 32 gig card back in and everything is good

Installing apps onto the external SD card?

I just rooted a couple of days ago and flashed cyanogen, but it seems to lack this option, which is an issue on 8gbs.. Any work around?
Any alternative roms that allow this?

Google took the ability to store apps on the sd card out of android in their honeycomb os and has not looked back since.
There are ways around this, but they all pretty much require you to root the device at a minimum to "unlock" it.
From there it is just a matter of which way to accomplish it. There are some roms floating around that could restore the ability of app2sd functionality, as well as some tweaks that will swap the sd card with internal storage so you can utilize up to 64gb sd cards on most devices.
I do not have the links, but others here do. Quick searches may find them or someone may come along and post them for you. All I can think of is the Link2SD app.
You didnt say what tab you have, but check these two threads for additional info-

[Q] Swap File, External Apps Partion, etc.

Hello people,
I got my Xperia L a couple of days ago and I have it running successfully with Vengeance + Clean n Tweaked after a loooot of tries.
This is my first Android phone after HTC Wildfire! Loving it so far [Was uber slow out-of-the-box though]
Anyway I want to know how beneficial it is to create a swap file on the External SD card and use it. Does it make a big difference in performance? If yes how do I achieve this?
Secondly I really want to be able to move user apps to External Storage. I tried moving them from within the Clean Master app and it did work BUT when I restart my phone the Xperia Home(launcher) app keeps crashing(until the SD card is initialized I guess). The easy fix is to open the notification bar or something for a minute before going back into to the Home Screen. So yes this kinda works. Just want to know if there's a better way.
One idea comes to mind is making a separate ext2/3/4 partition on the External SD Card and using that for user apps. Will the home launcher still crash? I really don't want to use a custom launcher. If this is possible how do I do it?
I read about the mod to make External memory as Internal. Does everything work correctly with that? However if partitioning is possible I would prefer that as opposed to using the whole External SD Card as internal memory.
Lastly, since I don't have 10 posts yet I can't post to DEV threads yet so I want to thank people from about 10 to 15 different threads which I referred to in the last 24 hours. lol!
p.s. I have a SanDisk 32GB Class 10 Micro SD Card
Bump!

Thanks for the reply. I read all about the app and I think It MIGHT cause trouble at some point so I'm gonna stay away from it for now. Maybe when I want to play a HUGE game I'll use it. Good to know how to!
Anyone wants to shed some light regarding the swap file question?
Bump
