you have 2 options:
1)using htcdev method to unlock the bootloader and root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
after unlocking the bootloader flash this zip from recovery to root
http://download.chainfire.eu/333/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.34.zip
2)use juopunutbear method to S-OFF and root the device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
the difference between S-ON and S-OFF
with S-OFF you are fully unlocked(means that you can flash also firmwares, radios, rils which on S-ON you can't)
with S-ON you are limited only for flashing custom roms anf kernels

what is Hboot?
Mostly i hearing in threads about Hboot, what's that thing, how do i know of what my device in hboot version ?

Thanks.
By the way, does all these methods are safe to do ? (Hboot, root, bootloader etc)
PS: getting scary to being doing these methods

basically it has the same steps for S-OFF and unlock bootloader
so you can use that too

so i need to do is to first unlock bootloader(through Htcdev site).Flash any custom recovery and then root the device or I need to S-off the device too to get a root?
PS:
S-Off requires wire-trick which is like a operation of my device. :silly:

there is no need to S-OFF for root too
for root you can choose either htcdev site or S-OFF method

Follow this till you have a custom recovery with smartflash on.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
Then copy any zip to sdcard, boot into recovery, flash.
If you get stuck in a boot loop, extract boot.img from your custom rom and use fastboot flash boot boot.img
I recommend that you do not soff or flash radios till you feel comfortable.
Happy to help.

You need S-OFF if you want to change the hboot/bootloader or the radio. SInce you have the latest versions of both it is not necessary at this moment. In you need to S-OFF by any reason it is possible via downgrading to older version that is supported by Revolutionary.
If you unlock the bootloader with HTCDev.com you will remain S-ON but will have the ability to flash custom Recovery, Kernel or ROMs and rooting as well. So basically you have the freedom to change your system according to your preferences
Hi thanks for the reply,
so it`s not neccessary to S-off to be able to root the phone? I will do some more reading before I take the plunge as I do not want to brick my new phone

Exactly.
Basically you will need to unlock your hboot at htcdev.com, then flash a custom recovery then
1) flash Superuser to have root or
2) flash a custom ROM, they are all prerooted

What about relocking hboot?
Thanks for your input into this thread by the way, I was led to believe according to the guide section that you must be s-off (therefore downgrade from 2.00.0002) in order to flash custom roms.

Just in case I was to send my device for a warranty fix or such!
Unlocking the bootloader at htcdev will void your warranty.
I am patiently waiting for May 2012 for my warranty to be over and then I will unlock my boot loader..
As said the htcdev unlock void your warranty, it will send the info of your phone to HTC.
You can do the HBOOT downgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399331 and use Revolutionary to get S-OFF and if you need the warranty you can use eng hboot and flash a new RUU to get back to stock and S-ON.

BIG Problem

My friend have a HTC SENSATION ICS, S-ON, UNROOTED.
He installed custom work mod recovery and then root via CWM with S-ON (if you can believe that)
Now, when i`m trying to use juoponut bear S-OFF , controlbear.exe tell me that Second Backup failed ...... press any key to exit.
What i have to do?
You friend used HTCDev.com to unlock his bootloader and this is how he was able to install Clockwork Mod Recovery. But when you use HTC Dev it only unlocks the bootloader and gives you write permissions to the system partition, recovery partition, and the boot partition. It does not give you full S-OFF. Now if you want to S-OFF his device you will first have to undo the HTC Dev unlock. Now you can find instructions on how to do this at HTCDev.com. Once you have done this you can then use JuopunutBear to S-OFF hiIs device.

You are very correct, the first version of JuopunutBear required you to be HTC Dev unlocked. But the currentveraion does not require it. Now to the best of my knowledge you have to have a locked bootloader to use Juopunutbear to S-OFF.
At the OP, yes you can flash ROMs while still S-ON, but you can not flash radios, rule, splash screens, orfirmwares while you are only HTC Dev unlocked. The guide that was linked will walk you through how to flash while S-ON but just remember to use fasboot to flash theboot.img or use 4EXT Recovery and enable Smart Flash.

question about installing clockwork recovery

Hi, I bought sensation xe with beats audio from turkey today.
firstly I gained unlocked bootlader which means I gained s-off? (i used http://www.htcdev.com/ this site's guide)
secondly, what is the appropriate clockworkmode for my sensation xe? I found on google "pg58img.zip" but when I start the device into Bootloader mode it says wrong device.

Hi,
NO.
HTCDEV unlock is NOT s-off.
Be very careful flashing PG58IMG.zip.
Flashing the wrong one can brick your phone.

S-on is still OK
You can flash all ICS,JB ROMS.

[Q] Starting out, Root and S-OFF?

Hey all,
I have just got my hands on a HTC Sensation and plan to root it but many of the guides I have seen require S-OFF.
When I look into gaining S-OFF, the guides often tell me I need to be rooted.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?
My HBOOT is 1.27.000
Many thanks
