This is my first post, so excuse me if I sound like I don't know what I'm talking about.
I was experiencing issues with my ATT HTC One X with CDM 10.1 on it, so I booted into boot loader and tried to boot up a new ROM, but somehow my initial ROM got deleted, I forgot to back up, and now I have no ROM installed and my phone is stuck in a boot loop. I have been messing with this thing and researching for hours trying all kinds of different things to get it working and nothing has seemed to work.
Can someone please help me?
Did you do a factory reset from the bootloader? If so, you've corrupted the internal memory, and will need to format it before you can move another ROM onto it.

Now that I recall, yes I believe that's exactly what I did.
Where I'm at now, I can't get into recovery. The only thing I can do is get into fastboot. Where do I go from here?
Ok. I'm assuming you have a working adb/fastboot environment on your PC. If you can't get into recovery you may as well try flashing it. Get it from here (I recommend version 2.3.3.1):

Once you've downloaded the file, put it into your working adb/fastboot directory (rename it to something simple like twrp.img). Make sure you're booted into bootloader, connect phone to pc, ensure it says "fastboot usb" on your phone screen, open a command prompt within your adb/fastboot directory then issue the following command:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
This will flash the recovery, it only takes a few seconds. When it's finished, issue this command:
fastboot erase cache
Once that's done, select recovery on your phone and it should boot into TWRP recovery. Select mount from TWRP menu, mount usb storage, the storage should now show up on your pc, format it to fat32.
Now you can copy ROM from PC to phone, unmount storage, and you should be able to flash a ROM (make sure you do a full wipe first though).

I appreciate the info. I think I understand what to do now. My only problem now is that I think my phone died. The red light blinks for a couple minutes, then it turns on and goes to the HTC quietly brilliant screen. If I hold down the power and vol down buttons it will turn off and then if I hold them down again it will go into the bootloader, but then it will shut off after a few seconds. Is it because it's dead and how do I get it charge?
Stop trying to turn it on. If you do that too many times while it has very low charge you can kill the battery to the point where it's not usable at all anymore.
Leave it turned off, plug it into a wall charger overnight and then try again.

I got it back into recovery after running the commands you told me. I then moved my ViperXL 3.2.7 ROM file over to the phone. The install started and then froze one the ViperXL screen and never went any farther. I am back in recovery again, but I don't know what to do again because that ROM failed.
So now I got the ViperXL installer to go all the way through the install and it said it was successful, but now it is doing the boot loop again. It reboots, goes to the HTC screen, turns off, and just keeps repeating itself.

So... Anyone have any experience getting sticky bit turned off on fastboot? My phone boots to it anytime I try to reboot or do a regular boot up.

Mine did that for a short while after I screwed up a flash, I reflashed boot and while running tossed the adb command to get into fastboot and then left it properly. Haven't seen it since.

To clarify... Flash boot from recovery, while that is running adb reboot bootloader? If that is the case I have a different set of problems to "boot", I can't get my pc to recognize the phone while in recovery. Everything else is recognized, even reinstalled drivers to be certain, pc doesn't even try to install a driver for recovery. Tried both TWRP & CWM.

Memory is fuzzy but I'm pretty sure I did it from fastboot, this happened to me about the time shabby was trying to fastboot boot boot.img and I ended up flashing it instead.

I had this same issue when porting TWRP ^^^.
I can't seem to find my posts on it right now, but someone just said do a clean flash. No problems since

Okay, this will probably help you...while your device is in Sticky Bit Factory Fastboot, open up a command prompt and connect to your device (given you know how to do so in your folder containing your fastboot app and drivers). Then type "fastboot oem fb_mode_clear" This command will allow your device to boot into system normally. Problem is (I think) when a failed flash occurs sometimes it sets your device in that mode and the above command clears it. Another way to manually place a device in the same state you described is to enter this command using fastboot: fastboot oem fb_mode_set. I believe that is how RSD Lite automatically reboots your device into factory fastboot mode after flashing partitions (.mbn) on your system so that it may resume flashing the boot, recovery, and system images, etc. Let me know if it helps.....

I'm trying to load the CM ROM to my HTC One S device. I was able to unlock and root the device. Next, I flashed the boot.img (fastboot flash boot.img) from the ROM zip file to the device and restarted it (cm-10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL-ville-M2). Now my device just cycles through the HTC splash screen with the red letters "this build is for development purposes only..." -> Android Splash Screen. Phone does not properly boot up. I think I missed a step in the flashing process. Any ideas on how to proceed?

what recovery are you using? what version?
maybe try twrp 2.3.3
get into bootloader and flash again, go to recovery do a full wipe and install the cm zip again.

Sorry, the command I used was "fastboot flash boot boot.img" The CM boot.img definitely got written to the device. I missed the step of copying the ROM to a folder on my device. I wasn't clear on this step since I'm not sure how to view folders on the device. Is there a way to load the ROM from my PC instead of copying the files to the device first?
I'm using TWRP 2.6.0.0. I'm also not clear on the back up portion since there is no SD card on this device. Is it possible to perform a backup? I thought I did one during the initial step, but now that I'm trying to restore, I don't see a backup available.
yes, the "sd card" is there as a partition or whatever. But it works the same way. Backups do work.
So in twrp mount the sd card (usb storage, whatever twrp calls it), then you can transfer the rom to your phone from your computer. Then just wipe your caches and install zip.
You can get into recovery from your bootloader, hold volume down and press power (don't hold)

Thanks for clarifying. I successfully loaded the ROM on my device.
My workflow stopped at the same spot, screen is locked in the HTC logo and the warning about the build being development purpose only, but trying again to get into bootloader and the phone doesn't load it up, it just turns off and nothing else happens

Was your battery too low?
Hopefully you can get into bootloader, that's pretty important to fix anything.
someone could correct me, but can't you hold power down until the buttons flash, then hold both power and volume down button until bootloader starts.

It had like 75% charge. Buttons don't flash like normal... Got to load the bootloader flashed the recovery, reboot, same screen

So you are trying to get into recovery. When you go into the bootloader, you choose recovery and it doesn't work.
you could go back to bootloader, fastboot usb.
from there open a command terminal on your computer. From your fastboot folder press shift and right mouse click <open command terminal here>
type
fastboot erase cache
then you can press power button to select hboot, then volume down to recovery.
You could try to flash a different recovery if that doesnt work. Make sure you are using the correct recovery for your device. S4 version or the S3 international type devices.

mmm yeah tried what you said, and still got stuck in "entering recovery".
I used eyeballer recovery which is the one CM recommends on their wiki
EDIT: My HBOOT says VilleC2 in that case S3 recovery would be the correct one?

Well, I was using an app called screen dimmer, and did pressed the button to dim the screen when all of a sudden it froze. It was like this for a while so I restarted it, it is able to go in fastboot, but nothing else. When i start It it hangs on the boot loader screen and can stay like that all day. if I go into recovery the screen goes black and the display is only backlit. I was going to try to to use the adb to factory reset it, but I could not get it to recognize the nexus 5 as a device. I used a bunch of different drivers. I did root my phone, and have the exposed framework but this was done a long time ago and I had no problems since. no idea how to fix this any help?!?!? Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this I'm new to this site.

You need to find a driver that works so it'll recognize the device. Once you do this, you need to flash boot.img to restore the recovery since not working. Then, redo the ROM or restore from backup if you can. Flashing a new recovery boot.img should fix the issue.

2. ADB won't work on fastboot nor in a damaged recovery.
3. fastboot works:victory: Try to flash recovery once again (fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img)
4. if 3 works, wipe system, caches. Flash the Rom you want, don't use that app anymore.

There is a chance to keep your data + storage contents. If you manage to flash and boot into recovery, in 'wipe' menu manually check-mark "cache,system"
don't mark internal "storate and data", nothing will happen to your media and apps data.

May be able to dirty flash but most likely, since you had the screen dimmed too much, you'll have to wipe data in order to override/remove the problem. You can try this way but may just send you back through this whole process if problem reoccurs. I'd just wipe the data to be safe.

The general idea is that your recovery is broken.
So, you need to flash a new recovery by placing a recovery.img file into your fastboot folder in the computer(recommend twrp). Like you did the first time you fladhed a recovery.
Then, turn off the phone, press volume down+ power button and it will boot into bootloader. Make sure it is on fastboot mode. After that, on the computer open cmd on the fastboot folder and and type:
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecoveryfile.img,
press enter.
It should flash a new recovery image if done correctly. Then, poweroff the phone, boot again into bootloader, choose recovery and it will reboot into recovery. Then follow. The steps of my first post.

You have a couple of options depending on how much data you can afford to lose on your phone. The least intrusive is to adb push a Rom on to your phone when you're in twrp Then flash that rom in twrp
The easier, but you'll lose all data on your phone is to flash the flash-all.bat file in fastboot

Then, it seems recovery now is good. If you have rom zip in the storage. Just wipe system and cache, flash the rom and see what happens
When in the twrp I can't get fastboot to recognize it as a device, or adb either

Your adb drivers aren't setup correctly. They're different than the fastboot ones. Try Google tool adb fastboot drivers xda.

When you are on twrp. You dont need to use fastboot nor adb. Just flash a rom if have one to flash

I have the factory image from google for my nexus 5
Hey folks!
Again a problem with my little phone.
Today I got similar reboots, after about 5 it got stuck at the bootscreen.
Tried to wipe cache+dalvik, booting it up again, but after it prepared all apps it stucks at the "Starting Apps" window..
Also flashed another kernel and recovery. Nothing worked so far..
Any help, because I don't want to wipe data because I made some important photos today and I don't wanna miss then..

First of all you connect your phone to PC and try to copy all the content of /sdcard to your PC. If it doesn't work reboot your phone to fastboot and connect it to your PC with CMD (in fastboot folder) running and enter the command "adb pull /sdcard C:/" without quotes, Also you can replace C:/ to any address where you would like to copy all your SD data.
After that you can flash any ROM to get your device in working condition.
If you have any query do ask or you may end up losing all your data.

Why don't you try the fastboot method.
Put your phone into Fastboot by pressing volume down+power button. Connect it to your PC, fastboot would recognize it for sure. You then enter the command. You can even use adb from fastboot.

It just says "device not found" when using adb.

Is your boot loader unlocked, if not you'll have to unlock it first (but doing so will void your warranty).
Assuming that you have a unlocked device follow the steps below to get all your data. (I myself tried and it worked, so it must work on your device also)
1. Make sure you have installed drivers for your Moto G, if not then do it.
2. Download the adb file to access your phone during fast boot.
3. Download the TWRP recovery 2.7.0.0 by dhacker for falcon (Moto G) on your PC and copy it in the adb folder.
4. Rename the downloaded file to "recovery.img" without quotes.
5. Connect you phone in fastboot mode to your PC and flash the recovery by command "fastboot flash recovery recovery. img" without quotes.
7. On your phone then go to recovery option and press volume up key until phone vibrates. The phone will then go to recovery mode.
8. On your PC, in command prompt(adb) enter command "adb pull /data/media/0/ C:\Moto" without quotes. The process will start and may take hours depending on no's of file and their size.
P.S. I won't be able to answer any more of your question as I won't have data connection any more. I'm sure if you will follow all the steps properly, you will get all your data. If you can't understand anything then just Google it.
Phone doesn't proceed from boot animation!

This would be my 1st time here. I've never faced any sort of problem with any of my android devices but this one.
My phone got lost a week back. So, I used "android device manager" to wipe/lock the phone but I think it didn't as the phone was switched off all this while.
So, some gentleman found my phone and returned it to me just today. I put it up for charging. It popped up 0% battery screen and turned on after 10-15min.
As soon as the boot animation(earth/buildings) finished it jumped to a black screen.
It has been on charging for last 3 hours.
So my questions are
1) Can I make back up of the data without turning it on/formatting it?
2) How can I make it to work?

So, some gentleman found my phone and returned it to me just today. I put it up for charging. It popped up 0% battery screen and turned on after 10-15min.
As soon as the boot animation(earth/buildings) finished it jumped to a black screen.
It has been on charging for last 3 hours.
So my questions are
1) Can I make back up of the data without turning it on/formatting it?
2) How can I make it to work?

And after you had backuped your data, factory reset your phone from fastboot by choosing factory option and then reboot it. Or should work fine.

So I was stuck in a TWRP bootloop with the corruption orange triangle. This happened after I got the encryption unsuccessful please factory reset and I wiped my cache it put me here. So I accidentally wiped /system which meant I had no OS. So what I did was download: http://www.mediafire.com/file/pcuslla00j22zqw/h918-v20d.7z
Along with the noverity here: https://build.nethunter.com/android-tools/no-verity-opt-encrypt/
Now, after flashing the boot and system images in TWRP, flash no verity. Try booting up, this should take you back to recovery. Now, reboot into bootloader, and type:
fastboot oem lock
This does give you a red triangle now. If you get this you are doing the correct thing! Now pull out the battery so it is completely off. Now put it back in
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT:

FOLLOW METHOD 1 AND DO IT TWICE! TWICE I SAID!
It won't give you a success message so after you do this pull the battery out and put it back in
hold down the volume down button, and plug in a USB as you are holding it down. This should take you to back into fastboot mode.
fastboot oem unlock
Now type:
fastboot reboot
And it SHOULD still give you the orange triangle, but then it should go past that and boot into the operating system.
If you end up in TWRP, mount /system and go to the file manager to see if there are any files in /system. If not, then you need to reflash the system.img.
Please let me know if this worked. I actually went to tmobile and they ordered me a replacement but then I fixed it when i got back by doing this. I figured this out myself. So please give me credit if you post this somewhere. Thanks!
UPDATE: If you are stuck in TWRP after the OTA follow the these steps:
1. Wipe everything in twrp. (internal storage, data, cache, davilk etc.)
2. Flash a custom rom from xda. (I used Overdirve. No promises if it works on anything else: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/rom-maximum-ovrdrive-lg-v20-v2-0-t3518475
3. Now, reboot into bootloader, and type:
fastboot oem lock

How did you get the system.img onto your device to flash? I keep getting a file size limit error whenever i try to copy it over...

Use a flash drive and get a USB to USB c adapter. I had one from my note 7. You can also use adb push

I'm still getting a bootloop to the Recovery....ugh I just don't get it. I followed everything to a T.....I thought that as long as I could get to TWRP I could flash the Stock Odex/DeOdex zip found in another thread and everything would be fine...when it gets to the LG screen it sorta does an 'old TV flash' and goes into recovery...what am I missing?

Try wiping everything including /system. Also make sure after you flashed the images, see if there are files in /system using the twrp file manager.

Hi, I did the same thing you mentioned with yours and accidentally deleted /system. I felt a little relieved when I saw your post. But unfortunately your method is not working for me. I tried every step as per your directions. My phone boots back into TWRP (after doing 'fastboot oem unlock") and I checked /system folder which has alot of files in it... I have a question, during the initial steps, after flashing boot.img and then system.img and before rebooting, TWRP say "No OS available"! ....Your steps did not mention this. Is it supposed to say that?
I would really appreciate your help. I am freaking out here.

When you go into /system the first time when it should be clear... are you seeing a lost&found folder? That needs to be deleted.

I tried to delete it, but it says Done and right after in red it says "rm -r f "/system" process ended with ERROR: 1"

Hmmm.... I don't know then! That process helped me. Just double check you are doing everything correctly and in order especially....Wipe > Format Data (type 'yes')....the Fix Contents bit...etc.... Just go through step by step.

Ok, when you wipe /system and everything. Reboot. Then flash, boot.img, THEN. System.img. After that reboot, it should still take you into twrp. Wipe cache dalvik. Then reboot. Then from twrp reboot to fastboot mode and lock the bootloader. Reboot again. If you see the red triangle, and it should keep looping. Then pull out the battery and put it back in to completely turn it off. Now follow this guide http://www.hardreset.info/devices/lg/lg-v20/ for hard reset. It should just reboot after you press the reset and boot into the red triangle. Now boot back into fastboot, (hold down volume and plug in cable) and type fastboot oem unlock. Now reboot. Tell me if that works for you?
Help!!! I'm stuck on TWRP. tried different roms and no luck. I'm unable to move the system.img to the SD or phone storage. I don't have a flash drive and ADB push is failing
well i been having the boot problem as you go now but now i went from orange triangle to red. I think i have a brick for sure now if anybody knows a fix please let me know.

You need to re-unlock your bootloader. Sounds like you relocked it.

When doing adb push did you make sure you press "Open command window here?" In the folder of where the file you are trying to push is located.
Yeah, it starts to push then fails at around 30%
