[Q/NEED HELP] GPS inaccuracy - HTC Sensation

Hello everyone. As you can see I have a GPS inaccuracy problem. My phone fixes to 7-8 satellites really fast (approx. 10 sec.), but when I use Run Keeper/similar sports tracker or Google Maps my trail is like zig-zag, app shows that I'm moving at crazy speed and so on. I tried AGPS Patch 3.1 by crypted, GPS fix by xenova, flashing some Radios (31_M and 18_M), ROMs and kernels (currently ARHD and Sultan kernel, tried ViperS, CM10.1), but nothing helps... I add some pictures which show my trail when I went across street (Vilniaus g.). Please help. Thanks

Nobody knows what problem this is?

If the problem remains also after wiping all, I think it could be an hardware issue.
Have you always had this problem?
When you use GPS while driving your car, the path has the same issue?

Totally wiped and installed CM10.1, but the problem remains. I bought it used. I don't know how much time it was used, but the digitizer had stock glue and the VOID is not damaged. No rust. So I think the previous user didn't have problems with phone. Never used navigation in car because I live in small country, which doesn't require any navigation to drive across Can RUU affect this? I really need normal lock...

If you try using only google maps? Test it making sure that it is the only app using GPS (kill background open apps).

i have the exact same problem! I've had the phone for a while, so maybe it's something that is worn. I'm thinking about the connections between the antennas and the phone for example. I hope we can find a solution! It's independent of which rom I use and which apps I use.

Have you seen this tip? "New Sensation Install - Gps Problems (Fixed)" @ cyanogenmod forum.
I can't find the option in cm10.1. So maybe they removed it or changed it to something else.
I'm thinking about flashing cm9 just to try it..
(I'm to new to post links)

Google Maps behaves exactly the same. Arrow, which shows my position, jumping all arround my street pretty much the same as in RunKeeper.

I don't think that this is something software specific. I think that the problem is hiding somewhere deeper but not in software, because all roms and different radios behave the same way. I think this is something hardware related.

Mmm, then I think it's an hardware problem... try to contact HTC support!

Hello again every one. I don't want to create a new thread so I'm writting here. Maybe someone knows what problem this is? HTC support, as always, suggesting me to do things like resetting phone, pulling out the battery, fully charge and so on... I thinking about selling this wonderful phone because of such a big problem... I can't use GPS everywhere...

Gps inaccuracy problem is also facing to me too.

I solved it by flashing the latest firmware and use clocksync before each time i run. Works reasonable, but the clock drifts quite fast. It wasnt enough to only use clocksync or only flash firmware.

It's back.. I've ordered an Omate Truesmart to use for running instead..
My thoughts are that it could be the gps antenna connections to the back. I have no other ideas..

[Q] How to calibration the accelerometer..?

My TF101 the sensor not balance , how to fix the problem..?
I've got the same issue and there s no way to calibrate the sensor !!!
I tried to hard reset the device : no joy
I tried calibrating with gps status, it only works in gps status, in all other applications, sensor is faulty !!!!
Same here! Don't know if this is since the 3.1 update (updated after 1 hour ownership of the TF )
I am experiencing the same issue...It's super sensitive.
Issue was there before update as well...
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
It also feels a little too sensitive indeed, but the biggest problem is the calibration:

I had mine changed today, it's far better but still choppy and inaccurate.
I would say on 3 degrees discrepancy, instead of 10 degrees on the previous one
Look at the first one :
In every case our g sensors are responding well, it's just a matter of calibration, I hope ASUS will releanse soon a calibration tool. Or maybe someone else.....
Is there a place where we can post some suggestions to ASUS ?
The calibration is done the same way for every android device, wave it in a figure 8 on the x axis, this will calibrate both the compas and the accelerometer.
I have contacted Asus, and the issue, including a link to this topic, is being forwarded to the Asus HQ. Currently there is no calibration tool available. I hope Asus can fix the issue soon.
As stated, calibration using the app GPS status don't have any effect on the tf (maybe not honeycomb compatible for altering sensor values?).

I too think mine is off by about 3 degrees.
Interested parties can grab the MyBeer live wallpaper here.
thankfully that's one weird thing mine doesn't do...3.1 here also.
I had this same problem with my phone. The solution was to spin it rapidly several times on all three axes. Worked like a charm.
Unfortunately, this is a lot easier with a phone than a 10" tablet ...
I wrote ASUS about it and they answered there was a calibration option in the Display parameters menu.
Thts where it s supposed to be i agree, but it s not there.
They don t even know their product.
They don t even check before answering, we re not blind.....if we say it s not ther, that's because it's not there.
I found the solution : i returned mine back to the store and had one well calibrated now. not perfectly but that's far better.
I suggest you all do the same and maybe then, they will check and notice the option is not here !!!
Once rooted with Prime or another rom, is it possible to calibrate the accelerometer with the "sensorcalibutil_yamaha" command, as mine seems to have a slight problem as well ?
I tried on my root TF and it doesn't work.
the calibration file accessible is "sensors-config" but I failed to run it in order to calibrate the tablet
Mine is fine. But for some games and apps it's off.

I'm using the Lochness Monster one. Yes, docked on my desktop, it's perfectly level. Only in some games and apps do I notice that it may be off. But I think that's because of the angle of the device I have it on while I start that program.
Maybe try that?
Make sure you're level, and reboot. Let me know! Maybe it calibrates on startup?
Good idea, but I rebooted in a perfect horizontal position and the problem is still there.
I sent my tf to Asus RMA, due to left speaker problem and accelerometer. The status was 'waiting' for some time and asked what it was waiting for. Asus told me that it was currently waiting for a new speaker AND accelerometer. Unlikely, but maybe this is also a HW issue
DHL is now under its way, hope to see a perfectly working tf with calibrated accelerometer tonight
...
I have the same problem, and there is about 10 degrees rotation in accelerator, I hope that the developer solve it as soon as it is possible, it takes too much time if we wait for Asus supports!

Wifi issue after 3.2

I am experiencing some bizarre wifi issues, without any reason my transformer has begun some sort of loop..
Basically it keeps turning wifi on and off constantly and the only way to stop it is to turn the device completely off..
Does anybody else know of this issue ?
And hopefully how to fix it.. :/
I'll film it next time it happens just to show exactly what is going on.
mine seems to be fine after updating to 3.2
maybe its compatibility issues with your wifi router.
try disabling wireless N mode in your wifi router, because if i am not mistaken the TF does not implement full wireless N mode over all bands.
wifi N
I have a dual band, I am broadcasting on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz and none of my other units seems to have any issues.
Also not an automatic channel, I've set it up to be the channel with the least interference..
There doesn't really seem to be a reason for the issue.
Only new addition to my devices is a popcorn hour, but that is cabled and has no cause to be an issue for a wifi unit.
Same here
Wifi power is turning on and off and on and off...
It happens when i wake up my TF, but after 2 min it is ok.
I'm having this issue as well, I'm using the latest stock 3.2, the only way to break the loop is to shut the TF down and then reboot.
Its random, but seems to be happening more after a wake up from standby.
At home or on my friends WiFi.
Im having this issue too...seems to happen after sleep . Only way to stop it for me is a reboot...very annoying
I know its a pain but have you tried a factory reset. I'm not seeing this issue with any rom. I have in the past but it was from not wiping when changing roms
The issue was created in the most recent update of Google Maps. If you go to "My Apps" and uninstall the Google Maps Update, you will no longer have the WiFi Issues. This fix has been confirmed with tests.

Thank you very much! I was searching all over the forums for this. One post mentioned about wireless signal channels but had no effect. Not until I came upon this post did it resolve the problem. Has someone notified Google about this? Also, I think this should be placed as a "sticky" so everyone can find it at the top of the Q&A list.
THANK YOU
Is it weird to say that I love you ??
This problem was driving me nuts..
Used up 40% battery life on nothing other than that crap :/
Impressive that Google once again releases such a buggy update, sometimes I wonder if they ever test what they release..
Just started happening to me yesterday. I upgraded awhile ago, so it may have been happening all along, but I just noticed it yesterday.
I had to change my settings to no longer turn off wifi, so I just leave wifi on constantly and this stopped the problem. I'm sure I'm draining the battery faster, but the wifi on/off loop was annoying me. Hopefully the bug will be fixed soon.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Thanks, I've now set mine too, to wifi always on. Where are bugs like this reported?
I too have this weird wifi on/off loop after coming out of standby both at home and at work. 3.2 updated and happily used with no problems. This started in the past 5/6 days or so. I like the sound of blaming Google Maps updates though. Will give it a try.
It's never weird to express your love!

It worked. Now how do I make sure maps doesn't auto update as it has done in the past? I can set that option for stuff I've downloaded but not maps.
Noticed this problem as well. I thought the transformer had gone bonkers.

http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=20076
What version of Google maps? I just bought my TF and I have v5.2.0 installed on the device, with no options to downgrade. My WIFI won't even turn on and recognise any networks.
I am again experiencing the problem, even after removing the maps update.. :/
Workaround
I have a solution posted to my blog, but I cannot link to it. It's a simple fix, no patch or anything like that.
Google can probably find it as it's a Blogger site.
My link to my blog was flagged as spam.
I have just a teensy problem with the definition of what's spam here and what's not.
I don't like creating content all the time for someone else's site and increasing their traffic through my work. I help out here a little here and there as it is on this site.
This one, I'm keeping.
It's jerdog's right to control this board, but if I come up with something original, or at least something I hadn't been able to find myself, I think I should at least get the traffic for giving it away.
So, I hope this is enough of a gray area post to not get it flagged again.

Which rom? I need wifi calling and GPS

I tried a couple of roms but I had problems mainly with gps.
I don't need the fastest rom around, I don't need the best battery or the coolest apps /graphic
I need good wifi calls and a decent gps fix under 1 minute.
thanks for the advices
GPS lock in under a minute cant be guaranteed regardless of what ROM youre running. There are too many factors that go into the speed of GPS. All the ROMs in the dev section have working Wifi Calling and GPS so take your pick.
i've used most of the roms here other than weapon. i like phoenix blood. I had problems with MiUi due to wifi calling. It would work sometimes but not others. I guess it works for some people but not for others so its strange. I think phoenix blood is the best choice for me. it is very smooth and works very very well.

You are right, the first cause is that the g2x is the crappiest phone I ever had.
I sent back 3 phones to tmobile for various problems. After the 3rd they didn't gave me other phones, and told me that are NORMAL issues with the g2x, and I have to go to LG, not tmobile. I'm installing new roms only because of the problems. I usually use stock roms.

Then I would suggest looking for a new phone not a new ROM.
I used to have tons of issues with getting a GPS lock, then when I was configuring my current ROM I discovered this little.setting marked as "GPS source", now I don't know of this is a stock option or something on the ROM, but ever since marking it as internal, I get instant locks, whereas before even with GPS fixes and GPS apps it was still a pain to get a lock. Can't comment on wifi calling, never use it.

I'm looking for a new one,
before I spend AGAIN a lot of money on a phone, I want to be sure I'll buy a model that actually works. For the moment I would like to have an usable g2x
Load up weapon 3.0 rc1. Take your time. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Reboot. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Reboot. Load New Clip and follow the same procedure and log in and enjoy. If you need details pm me.
I'm trying weapon and newclip. Doesn't work.
Before gps was hooking some satellites but didn't fix. Now doesn't even see satellites. I think I have to survive without gps and buy a real phone asap.
Never again LG, and I'd like also to switch carrier but unfortunately I need the wifi calling
Did you not get my pm? Also, I found weapon to be extremely unstable and New Clip to be more stable but still too unstable.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
have a look at your gps.conf. make sure its using the proper ntp servers.
bonk I just installed the rom, cannot find the kernel.
i think I already checked the gps conf I ll do it again,
thanks
G2X
Try running weapon without the clip. For me it has the fastest GPS compared to the rest of the ROMS. It's not as fast as I would like, but I'll take the fastest I can get.

1. step go to location services on Settings!
Disable all of them
2. step Disable these applications, if you do not use any!
3. step go to "google settings"
And search location
and disable these
Enjoy longer battery life
(And wow those picture seems too huge o.o)

Tell me the threads please.
Wow what a fix! I have a better one -
1. put phone in garbage
2. buy a nokia 3100
OR:
put phone on flight mode and use it ONLY to tell time.
And on a more serious note:
C'mon dude, are you serious?.. a "fix" means you don't loose any functionality of the device, what you did there was disabling almost every good and important feature that in the first place is the reason people buy these phones, so disabling them to get around a bug which drains the battery?.. that's.. well I don't need to say it.
And for the fix that does work - turn off "Location reporting" only - from my experience this will not make you loose any location based functionality as I use every thing that has to do with locations, Google can still tell where I am, and Google now still tells me time to work\home, flight times, packages dispatched, weather updates etc. turning "location reporting" off fixed the Google services battery drain issue I had, and I still turn it on from time to time to see if Google had fixed this, last time I checked it was still draining the battery.

I think the guide is not for u, mate.
But this guide is for people who wants to prolong the battery life.
Location reporting is one of the main battery factor on an android device.
I personally don't use it as I don't want any apps (facebook, etc) to do this and I have disable more google-related things than what the OP has posted.
Are you for real or is this just some kind of joke?
Firstly, this fix isn't a fix, its just turning some things off.
Secondly, this information has been around for a long time now and is relevant to any Android phone, not just the S4.
And no, I am not going to post links to the hundreds of threads and posts on the many websites and forums out there who have already posted this before you and with more detailed information.
Seriously, why have you bothered posting this rubbish?
The most suitble statement is the tip for prolong the battery life. Tks OP for yr sharing.

[APP][4.0+] CellCB - Talk with people nearby just like a CB radio

I recently put up a new app on Google Play called CellCB and thought I would post here to try and get some feedback on it. CellCB is an app that is meant to behave just like a CB radio in that it will allow you to talk with people within range of your phone. Unlike a traditional CB radio it does not operate on the 27 MHz band, so sorry to the folks who were hoping to use it as an alternative to the bulky unit they may have installed in their car or truck. What it actually does is use the GPS system on your phone to figure out what other CellCB users are in range on your phone and list/broadcast to them over the Internet. Right now it is set to a range of 4 miles but I may make this more/less in the future depending on usage.
CellCB is meant to be simple to use and closely simulate the behavior of a CB radio as much as possible:
Launch the app - Like turning a CB radio on it will immediately start listening for people broadcasting nearby
Hold the "Transmit" button - Like holding down the button on a handset it will broadcast your voice to people nearby
I hope to implement other features such as multiple channel selection, probably 40 like CB radios have, as well as some extras like making recordings and such. For the time being I just have the basic functionality with a single channel to see what people think and understand how well the core of it works. My goal is to keep things as simple as possible and therefore there is no type of registration needed before using it and no special configuration is needed like other apps that perform walkie talkie functionality over wifi or bluetooth.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.binaryroad.cellcb
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions/comments. Since this is a pretty new app you will probably need to find someone else to use it with, otherwise the chances of hearing someone broadcasting nearby your position at random are quite low.

If Google Maps doesn't give your position either then it sounds like a problem with your phone in general and not CellCB. If your aren't able to get your location on Google Maps after a while you might want to contact the phone manufacturer about getting GPS working on your phone.
Thanks for everyone who has been using this so far. I found a bug that would happen with people who were on flaky connections and have fixed it now. Hopefully that was it and things should run smoothly now.
I have made a couple more fixes to deal with some issues for how location updates are done for certain phones. If anyone encounters any trouble with the current system, please let me know.
Nice idea.
