Battery drain and signal issues - HTC One S

Hello guys, I've been having problems with my One S and i hope you can help me out.
I noticed lately that the signal has gotten A LOT worse than what it used to be. Its sort of on and off. Most of the time is gets bad and I have little to no bars, even in places where i used to get full reception. This is really becoming an issue, as T-Mobile coverage in my area is already bad enough.
I am running the latest version of the PAC Man ROM, though i don't think it's relevant since this was going on before i flashed it a few days ago. I did a search to see if i could flash another radio, but found nothing.
My second issue is my battery life. I went through the trouble of updating my hboot so i could run the latest version of my ROM that included the new 3.4 Kernel. I noticed ever since i flashed it, my battery life has been terrible. I know this is a known issue, but i don't run CM10 so i can't flash the nightlys that are supposed to fix it. Can anyone recommend a kernel?
here is the ROM I'm currently running: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2164406
Thanks

New Radio

I went through a few pages of the official Sapphire porting project and didn't see a whole lot regarding the RC33 version of the radio update. I personally don't plan on ever switching over to the ported version since it's likely that we will be seeing an official version out soon enough.
So my question is to those that have flashed the new radio to RC33, have you noticed any benefits as of yet? Battery life? Signal?
For those of you that have not seen this, you can find the new radio image here:
korndub's radio update (for RC33): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zhzebmabxyn
the mediafire has been blocked from china
Do you mean the radio version of 1.22.14.11? not so stable for me, lost signal sometimes.
I guess it must be 2.22.19.23, since it's from G2
has anyone given this a shot yet?
I've installed it on my JF RC9 with Three. Seems to have a better reception, 3G speed is a tough one because the speed is always different anyway but I'm currently getting 0.7Mbit, which is the highest I've seen on the device (Never got over 0.4 before)
Havent encountered any issues yet. Will see over the next few days.

yes update and alt s
Thanks, I've been having problems connecting to the network since I flashed Haykuro 3rd build then reverted back to JF. Do you think it could be the radio that's giving me problems?
Edit
I flashed back to JF radio update and everything seems to be working fine now.

I had problems too when I flashed the JF signed Sapphire radio update. My phone never displayed 3G, it stayed stuck on E. Also, a couple people tried to call me, and said they even left a message, but when I checked my phone, no missed calls were displayed in the notification or the call log.
I dont know if it's device specific, or area specific (So Cal). Either way, even if I go to Haykuro's 5.0, I am still going to flash the original G1 radio which never gave me any issues (other than the crap battery life).
when i installed it my data and phone connection would drop every 5 minutes or so. and the data connecttion didn't always return.
Phone connection is fine for me. I don't use data(just wifi) so I can't say anything about that. The phone is taking way longer to charge though. Not sure if it will hold any longer though. I'm using adb 1.1h.
I've been losing my data connection lately with 2.22.19.23
It will go and come back 10-60mins later. It gets really annoying. but the good thing is, it did improve battery somewhat.
and edit: I used nandroid to come back to RC33 with the cupcake radio. should I go ahead and flash it RC33 radio?

I cannot recommend the Magic Radio to be run on RC at all. I can literally throw a rock from my back yard and hit a TMobile tower so I have the luxury of blazing fast 3G from my house. While running that radio on RC33 I noticed my battery drain was GOD. AWFUL. and charge time took twice as long. Also the signal quality went way down. I was a solid 1 bar and if I even thought of leaving my house I dropped down to Edge. I wasn't sure if it was the radio but the second I installed the RC33 radio my battery life instantly improved and I'm back on holy crap fast 3G.
Please note that I experienced none of these problems while running that radio on the 4.9 build. IMHO, something just isn't jiving between RC and the Magic radio but that's hardly surprising.

Strange, I went ahead and flashed just after I made this post and have had none of these issues
I had the same problem with data access amd signal dropping with the new update(2.22.19.23). i reverted to rc33 old radio(1.22.14.11) and rebooted twice and now all is fine. that new radio is unstable.

I've been back and forth from RC33 and 4.9 w/Magic radio and I can reproduce the problem every single time. Maybe it's related to my phone but to me it doesn't seem like it. Other problems included showing connected but NOTHING data working.
Dunno. Odd indeed but my troubleshooting keeps leading me to "Don't use Magic Radio on RC ROM.
I tried the magic radio this morning before I went to work... After a whole day with no connections at all, I went back to rc33 radio as soon as I got home. I thought I may have done something wrong but after seeing I am not the only one with problems, I think I will stick with rc33 for the time being
i have jf's rc33 1.43 and updated with the saphire radio. battery life seems to be shortened a bit but do find a performance increase throughout the OS. other than that, i havent experienced any of the issues others are reporting.
I've been running this new radio for a couple days now and I just have 1 strange problem.
I consistently have better 3G connection, less straight connection drops, and overall everything seems alot more responsive and just plain faster.
However...
Webpages just don't want to fully load about 75-90% of the time. I'm an avid fark.com reader and I spend a good deal of my train ride on the site and I've never had this issue with the other radios. On this new radio, when I go to the site in either Steel or Browser, I get to about 40% of the progress bar and it just stops. I've tinkered with it alot, and it's not only that 1 site.
Something isn't jiving right in RC33. I didn't run the 4.9 build long enough to notice if I experience the same problem. The no headphone support makes it not an option for me and my train rides.
I am running 4.5 build with the new radio(2. Something) and I have seen a lot of improvements with the ui, and my battery life has improved.
4.5 is very nice and I can't wait for upsates on it.

CM7 Nightly, thoughts and a question.

First off, guys who have been wandering about the CM7 nightly and have not moved to it... it fixed literally EVERY problem I had with my G2x out of box..
I had Weird Wifi issues when it was sleeping it would still turn off wifi and data.
Fixed.
My battery life was balls
Now it's AMAZING
- It did introduce a few weird bugs, but the thing is... they aren't game breaking bugs like the above mentioned.. i mean if you don't even have good battery life or can't use wifi then why even have the device? So I'm LOVING cm7 right now.
*****Now On to my question*****
For those of you who have done Roots and Roms before (CM7 etc)
If i'm on the CM7 nightly build right now, and they come out with an update, or even small updates to it.. Do I have to Wipe and re flash the whole thing all over again? or does it do an In place upgrade?
You don't have to wipe when you upgrade point releases (7.0 to 7.1 to 7.2 etc).
But never say never, and if you do encounter some strange behavior, sometimes it's best to just wipe and do a clean install of the latest nightly.

when it comes time for a upgrade you just wipe cache and dalvlik(under advanced) DO NOT FACTORY RESET, and just install the update over.
I'm a little inexperienced at downloading this kind of stuff, so I'm waiting for the upgrade for all users. I hope it's soon!
Did you really notice a better battery life?!
Yeah dude.. it's insane how much better it is.. I'm at 75% right now at 2pm..
I mean heck it's no iPhone 4 battery life.. with that i would be at 80% at the end of the day...
but at least it's something.. way better then what i was getting stock g2x
Before CM7 i was at 5% at around 7-8pm and had to plug it into the charger, now it looks like i'm going to finish the day around 40%

The G2X is my first smartphone and I jumped into this stuff head first and am on the CM7 nightly and loving it! If you're careful and read around quite a bit it is pretty safe to set up and I had no trouble. Also on the Cyanogen wiki, if you search for g2x, you find a nice article.
My battery life is massively better and the customizability is great.
The Rom Manager program makes updates really easy if you buy it but did not work for me for the first install of CM7 (rebooted into stock) and make sure you follow people's advice on using the nvflash method for Clockwork instead of just doing it all through Rom Manager if you decide to go for it.
What's the difference between CM7 and stock? I've read that some people still have bugs with it. I rooted mine but have not installed any new ROM because I just dont see the upside.
My phone has only had one reboot since I bought it two weeks ago, but it has frozen while charging around five times...after freezing all bloatware it has been more stable and it's been about three days with no problems at all.

Well for starters stock is android 2.2.2, the latest FROYO. CM7 is 2.3.4, the latest Gingerbread.
So lots of behind the scenes stuff and updates up common apps. Also CM roms are very custom now and even have their own kernels, which is why wifi and Bluetooth work better, like wiimote support.
The theme is different, the lockscreen, notification menu toggles, gesture actions, etc.
Very fun. It is also themeable.
CM roms are like the ultimate roms. Its what every hardcore android user drools over. Stock is ok but CM roms push updates and new features faster then manufacturers do.

Thanks for the quick reply bud! I've been reading a lot since I got my G2x and I know I will flash a custom ROM eventually, but I'm not comfortable yet. (im still a noob lol) I will keep reading around the forums for now...
Thanks!

[Q] JB Leak Radio Question.

So I see there is a JB leak out for us, I also checked the radio post over at RootzWiki, now, my question is, with that installed and any JB rom does that mean there will be no more data drops?
Time will tell. Flash and report back. I've been running since it's drop and have not noticed anything significant yet.
I've been running it since it dropped as well and haven't noticed any issues. But i'll let you know more tomorrow after i take it for a full days spin.

I'll flash the new liquid smooth tonight and text it out as well, thanks guys! I'll report back once I have had a full day of use
I flashed the stock jb rom leak deodexed last night and had the HRE radio... then decided to flash the leaked radio. I like it. In Denver. Good 4g and as you can see the speed tests were better. 3 newest speed tests were with new radio. 3 tests under that were the HRE radio. Within minutes. Same spot. Getting great battery life. So far two thumbs up from this guy.

Just an update, my data stayed strong all day today even at work and the gym where i usually get data drops but it held its own today
Seems about the same for me in my area... I am in town with a good signal.. Did notice a little better upload speed... Can't say for sure it is just the radio and nothing else but will keep updating.
Getting LS RC7 downloaded now, will report back when I have information on the data!

[Q] HTC Sensation random reboot & battery drain

Hey,
I had this problem now for very long time (actually more than 1year) and I tried all the solutions that were proposed in other threads specially this one that reduced the number of reboot but not totally
What I remarked is that when the phone is on the edge of the cell on 3G and trying to move to 2G it will automatically reset especially when the battery is below 50%.
I tried locking the phone on 3G and the number of reset has reduced but the downside of this is that I don't have most of the time connectivity (all the way in the metro for example).
Does anybody know if there is custom ROM or Kernel or Radio (I don't which part do control this) that deal with this issue?
I was running ARHD 6.7(and previous versions) with recommended radio till this morning and now I'm on CM9.
I changed the battery to Anker 1700 so the issue is not coming from the battery.
My phone was bought from French Operator Bytel (SN : SH169V..... if it helps)
Sorry for this long Message
Have you tried get Ril? It's an application in the play store that's a great app. It will let you know if your ril is matching your radio, and if it is not matching it recommends and downloads a matching ril. This really helped me a lot. I was getting a pretty weak signal and found out my ril was not matching my radio. Once I downloaded the matching ril, my signal went from one bar to four and five bars! I was pretty amazed on what a difference it made for me. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try and see if it helps you. If not you can also change your radio and ril yourself and see if you can come up with a better signal. Thing with radio is we all live in different areas so it must be experimented with by you because what works for me might not work in your area. You would start by looking in the generic ics radios and matching rils. Remember your radio now so you can return to it if need be. But before I'd change my whole radio do try Get ril. Hopefully it will make a positive difference for you! Also I believe you must be s off to change radio. Don't know if your s on, or off? But give get ril a try and see how that goes. Best wishes. Hope this was helpful.

I tried the App GetRIL and it says RIL/baseband is matching (RIL 4.0.0013HMQ, 11.69.3504.00P_11.22.3504...)
Thanks anyway :good:.
I'm just wondering if it's not a HW or firmware defect on the serie of my phone (no limitation on the power usage during IRAT HO).
BTW I didnt get a reboot with CM9 till now but I'm in well covered area, I will see if it crashes again when i'm on the edge of the cell.
Had exactly the same thing last week, purchased a new battery and now the problem has gone away
Looking at the old battery you could see it was swollen
I picked up a battery new for £5 off ebay
I have already changed the battery and the issue is still happening. Anyway with the new ROM it looks stable so far.
I will test it for some days and see if it will happen again
CM Definitely solved the issue

I was using CM9 Opensensation ROM XDA Page and I never got any random reset
Three days ago I flashed CM10 Opensensation2 and I started getting Random reset again
I have no idea what can be the cause but at least with CM9 I didn't see any reset after 1 week usage. I have to go back to CM9.

Yes I tried open sensation myself and although I didn't get rebooting, I had NO data connection!! Have you tried some of the other jelly bean roms? I really like paranoid Android by Dragun. You might want to give it a try? Best wishes to you.

I think I'll try Paranoid Android too then. And that way I'll try JB too.
It's radio Issue
Finally I found what the problem is coming from
Changing the radio to the latest European version two month ago made the phone much more stable with using various versions of CM10.
The version I'm using now is : 11.76A.3504.00_11.24A.3504.31_M with the RIL provided by default in the rom(it shouldn't be impacting)
Hope this will also solve your problem.

Is there a Kitkat based ROM out there that matches the polished stability of CM 10.2?

I just began trying out custom ROMS for my new Relay yesterday (because as we all know the Stock T-Mobile ROM is practically useless!)
After reading the positive comments here I wanted to try Carbon ROM (especially because battery life is very important to me and I heard it was great on Carbon) but couldn't find any download links anywhere.
I first tried both versions of Slimkat posted here. While I loved the slick simplicity of it, I immediately encountered various problems with both versions. (Especially re wifi connection. Also Youtube videos played back garbled).
I don't plan to be a modding enthusiast, I just want to flash a great stable ROM once and for all. After researching some more, I gathered that for pure stability a lot of people recommended official CM 10.2. I flashed that and so far have been very impressed by the professional-grade stability. (The only problem I have is that the phone will not show 4G or LTE for mobile data connection - I don't know if this is because it simply considers the connection available where I live not to be 4G or LTE or whether there is actually a problem. In any case I am getting steady download speeds of around 1 Mbps so not too fussed).
However, all things being equal, it would obviously be nice to get to a stable Kitkat based ROM before I stop flashing ROMS and get stuck into enjoying my phone. If I could get better battery life that would be a major bonus too. (Not that it seems too bad on CM 10.2).
So...is there is a version of Carbon KK for this phone that would suit my needs? (no need to be cutting edge with features, just want stability and battery life). If so, if anybody could be kind enough to host the ROM and corresponding Gapps i would appreciate it so much, as the download links for the ROM in R3v3nt3ch's thread are down.
Thanks very much if anyone can help me
I'm actually planning to rebuild all Roms for relay here soon...I have moved to the g2 but I still support relay.... Plain Andy once its redone will prolly be your most stable rom....also relay does not get LTE...it gets h+ which is pretty much 4g

Thanks so much for your speedy response Will try Plain Andy once it's up. So do you think that would have the edge over the best Carbon build for stability and battery life?
Yes...plus I just redid my kernel and improved a few battery related things
Cm11 build 27/09 from topic below (build by an employee of cyanogenmod), 03/08 build was also very good .I never had crashes, battery life is amazing, more then 24hours to use.
Edit: this should be in q & a.
Awesome - will eagerly look forward to the new Plain Andy then! Difficult question to answer as it's creator, but do you reckon the new version would stand up to CM 10.2 in terms of out of the box stability? Also, to really increase battery life, is there any reason not to run an app like JuiceDefender on Plain Andy?
Ps - Thanks also for the clarification on the 4G issue - I guess on the stock rom T-Mobile decided to label the H+ as 4G.

Moved to Q&A, thanks.
OmniToad also has been very stable, and really has been since the first 4.4 releases. The latest 4.4.4_0003 release sports very nice battery life due to the inclusion of patches to stop Google's Apps from draining battery quite so badly.

The "4G" displayed by the stock T-Mobile ROM is a marketing gimmick. Basically, they labeled 3G coverage as 4G, even though only dual carrier HSPA+ comes even close to 4G speeds. Over on Howard Forums this practice is commonly referred to as "Faux-G."
The phone never has supported LTE - it was released at a time when T-Mobile had zero LTE coverage.
10.2 isn't polished. Upgrade to KitKat. That is, unless you like your bluetooth cutting out when you use wifi.
Then, there's the heartbleed problem every time you use a hotspot.
Upgrade.
Yeah, I installed Omintoad a few weeks ago and am 95% delighted with it! (Thanks for the tip Magamo). The only problem with it is a couple of audio playblack glitches here and there (see here )
Waiting for the upcoming release of the latest version of PlainAndy which will hopefully match the battery life and stability of this Omnitoad ROM without those audio probs...
