Since this model isn't out yet, I suppose this is not yet considered a n00b question. I am, and I'm sure many of you are also, wondering if the international One XL and the US version One X on AT&T would be able to interchange radios via RUU updates. If radios are interchangeable by themselves, is it simply a matter of S-OFF?
Why am I asking this?
I'm on T-Mobile right now, planning to use AT&T model with TMo's HSPA+, but then I am moving to Europe in a few months - in Germany, they're using LTE on 2600 MHz whilst UK is rumoured to be using LTE on 1800 MHz (though LTE there is now up in the air again).

ATT bands:
LTE CAT3 - DL 100 /UL 50
LTE: 700/AWS
WCDMA: 2100/1900/AWS/850
EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900
International bands:
HSPA/WCDMA:
Europe/Asia: 850/900/1900//2100 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
ATT lite band is 700/AWS. That will not work in England or Germany if you have stated the bands correctly. Both versions will work on 3G & 2G in either market.
Band compatibility is set in hardware, and cannot be changed by flashing a new radio, if that is what you are suggesting. So if you need a particular LTE band, the phone you buy needs to be compatible with that band when you buy it.

If I buy the AT&T one but I'm on T-Mobile's (bulls*** fake 4G) HSPA+ which runs on AWS 1700/2100, I imagine that would work still? Or when it mentions 1700/2100 that is segregated for downlink and uplink? If that is so, then dammit, I will have to re-evalute my life!

I see. I brought up the question about radios because, as you probably already know - since it was on XDA headlines and that, TMo's SGS2 and ATT's Skyrocket + Galaxy Note were able to switch radios. Specifically, the Skyrocket was able to flash SGS2 HSPA+ radio and fully utilise its speeds.

The comparison of the Intl XL and X AT&T is making me assume that HSPA+ will work on T-Mo at least, since it supports both AWS 1700 and 1200. I guess the Intl XL only supports 2100, which continues to leave me a little confused (when comparing it to Skyrocket + TMo's HSPA+).

You can probably flash XL and X ATT radios, but they will operate on the same bands as always.
I have a very strong feeling that the X ATT radios will be better if you are on AT&T though.

Its impossible to be 100% positive on the compatibility, since the phone is not even released yet.
But yes, the band T-Mobile uses (1700/2100) one is used for upload, and the other for download, also known as Band IV.
The 2100 band normally included on AT&T phones (for 3G international use) is Band I. So the One XL will probably not work on T-Mobs 3G network.
They have no reason to include T-Mobs band on an AT&T phone. But they do have motivation for including Band I for its international traveling customers, since this band is widely used in Europe, Asia, and other places.

Since there is no release yet, we're all speculating - which is okay.
I've been researching mobile frequencies and bands, and it seems that since there is WCDMA support listed on the specifications for frequencies: 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100, they fall into bands:
1 (2.1 @ DL 2110-2170, UL 1920-1980)
2 (PCS 1900 @ DL 1930-1990, UL 1850-1910)
4 (AWS @ DL 2110-2155, UL 1710-1755) could be band 10 (Extended AWS)
5 (850 MHz @ DL 869-894, UL 824-849)
The sole LTE band is:
17 (LTE700 @ DL 734-746, UL 704-716)
whilst 1700 and 2100 are also used for LTE.
DL = downlink range
UL = uplink range

The only thing that could prevent cross-compatibility (which, as mentioned, would favour AT&T) is having the LTE chipset separate from the HSDPA chipset. Though the case may not at all be for HTC, Samsung's Skyrocket (MSM8260) and Galaxy Note (MSM8660) have a single chipset that hosts LTE and HSDPA bands - thus their radios are interchangeable.
Do any of you know the specific radio chipset that is used in the One X for AT&T?
I'm assuming it's the radio on the listed SoC Qualcomm MSM8960 - which is also on the international One XL that is specified to simply host the 1800 / 2600 bands.

To contradict my previous post, HTC's website doesn't even list support for 1700 MHz for the AT&T version of the One XL.

I don't think it's possible. The chipsets between the XL and X are VASTLY different Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 vs. Nvidia Tegra 3.
The Skyrocket, AT&T LTE Note and T-Mo SGSII on the other hand all use the same Snapdragon S3 Qualcomm chipset.

Simply in pertinence to my usage of "X" has always been about the AT&T derivative of the original One XL. Sorry for the wording, I'm at my uni's library - scholar mode on!
They may not be interchangeable between one x and one xl but you might be able to do that between one x and one s

I kind of have the inverse problem to this...
I'm in the UK currently, and hoping that EE's 1800MHz LTE network is given the green light for Q3/Q4 - I want a One X, but it won't be future-proof (i.e. LTE compatible), so a One XL would be great! Also I might be in the states quite a lot over the next couple of years, so it would be nice to have an AT&T LTE-ready phone.
Considering importing the One XL and using it over here - also have the benfit of S4 vs. Tegra 3...

Wouldn't be surprised to see a carrier out their own One XL variant.
I have a feeling that the One XL is international, but will require region/carrier specific versions based upon radio bands. While you can roam on HSPA+, you're going to probably be tied down to specific carriers/countries for LTE service.
Of course, development-wise this only matters for radio firmware and RILs, so development efforts won't be carrier-specific if we get S-OFF.

They're the same radio and software, but physical antennas cannot be changed. Either it has it, or it doesn't.
As we all know, there are 2 versions of Razr Hd (and hope soon MAXX as well) phone
XT925 that is made for Verison
XT926 that is made for all other world
The main difference is LTE :
925:
4G Network LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600
LTE 700 / 800 / 1700 / 1800 / 2600
926: 4G Network LTE 700 MHz Class 13

It provides you with all the CDMA information versus that of the GSM.
Megafon and Yota both appear to offer Band 7 @ 2600Mhz which appears to coincide with the GSM version. That leads me to believe that using an unlocked XT925 on either network would result in a LTE connection.

The XT925 has a locked bootloader, but you can get an unlock code from Motorola.

On the link you posted the size dimensions are exactly the same, I'm looking to buy accessories(case, cover, tripod, charger, etc) but for some reason the xt926 accessories are much cheaper than the xt925. Will all accessories fit the same for both phones?
Xt925 and XT926 have different radio hardware. 926 has cdma and 1 lte band, 925 has more, but different lte bands.
Which version is the one that is offered by Rogers (Canada)? And, if I get that one, and unlock it to use it in Serbia, are there some 4.1 custom ROMs for it?

Rogers version is GSM/UMTS - 850/900/1800/1900 and LTE : BAND 4 (700) and BAND 17 AWS (1700)

Rogers Canada is XT925. It is the GSM model, you should be able to unlock it and use it all around the world, just be sure the GSM/UMTS/LTE frequencies are compatible.

Yes, it is unlocked.
Caveats:
You won't get LTE (only 4G/HSPA+)
Every time you boot up it will say "SIM is from an unknown source"
When you come back to the US, you'll have to use VZW. TMobile/ATT are blocked

Canadian version is definitely 700 / 1700 / 2100 (Source)
European version supports at least 800 and 2600 definitely (O2 Germany and SFR France) - possibly 1800 also
Australian version supports at least 1800 on Telstra - may be the same model as the European version?
South American version... no idea?! Same as Euro version perhaps (looks like 2600MHz LTE in Brazil)
Motorola should have given them separate model numbers to make it clearer

Not exactly true. The XT925 firmware is what determines which radios are active. Having 700/800/1700/1800/2100/2600 all active at the same time would drain the battery like woah. Currently you can merge the radio you need into the rom you want to use, and make it work that way. I just hope whatever next "standard" of wireless data communication is more standard and less all over the f-ing place.
For the Motorola Defy, there was a list of radio settings compiled into a apk that would allow you to switch your baseband... Hopefully an enterprising dev will be able to work similar magic for the Razr HD.
Let's say I buy an international One X. I unlock it myself. Would it accept a sim card that is for the XL and still give someone 3G?

It should. Assuming the sim card slot fits the same size sim card, if not you could get an adapter if it needs to be bigger. It should work on any gsm network after unlocked
Assume you are talking about the quad core Tegra3 One X, which most people call the "international" version. Although the dual core LTE Snapdragon version has been released in so many countries in various parts of the world at this point, calling the other (quad core) version "international" is somewhat moot and confusing.
Whether you get 3G depends on what carrier you are talking about. The quad core One X has the proper 3G bands to work on AT&T (850 and 1900 MHz). But it lacks the AWS (1700/2100MHz) band that for the most part is needed to get 3G on T-Mobile (although they have been adding 1900 MHz in some cities). I know you have the AT&T logo as your carrier. But you seem to be asking a generalized/hypothetical question, so I'm giving you the most correct answer in respect to that type of question.
In general, if a smartphone has the proper 3G band compatibility with your carrier, as long as the phone is SIM-unlocked, it will work on 3G. You will likely also need to manually enter your carrier's APN info into the phone settings.

But I am still wondering if this device could actually use the LTE available in HK?
I knw the msm8960 claimed to be capable of utilizing all frequency of radio,
so is it possible that there is some soft lock in the baseband?
Could i flash the baseband or replace the modem driver from other device to access other frequency?
any idea is appreciated!

I tried to figure out, if our Photon Q is supporting more LTE bands than 1900 MHz (#2 or/and #25).

On some sites there are reports for having another band. (Have to search again, I think it was 850 MHz, #26 or 700 MHz, #12/#17/#29.)
I have also searched for supported frequencies for MSM8960.
I found some BlackBerry devices based on that SoC and 2 different versions of supported LTE bands.
One version (UK) supported 4 in europe used bands und the other version (US) supported 4 in US/Canada used bands.
I think that the Photon Q is like the BlackBerry US version and supports 4 LTE bands in US/Canada.
If you need a few sites, I will search again and show it to you.
The strange thing is, if I set to LTE only (via 4636) I can see all 4 carrier (germany).
We have 3 bands with LTE on it, but I can only get signal to max 2 of them.
Band 3, 7 and 20 (1800, 2600, 800 MHz).
The weird thing is, that on band #20 (800 MHz) only 3 carrier are active, so it has to be band #3 or #7.
Maybe I'm missinterpreting things and thats just a sideeffect of crossing bands of LTE US and UMTS Germany.
On stock ROM there was another "secret phone code" to see what the phone-part is doing. (From qualcomm I believe.)
I think I will test it some other day, to see which band is active.
At last, I was never been able to "login" or "register" into my carriers network within LTE.
Please discuss about that possibility, I really want to find out, which frequencies are supported by our phone on LTE.

Of course, I was just blind guessing the hardware for xt926 and xt907 are using the same hardware.
If not, there should be one chip controlling the modem channel of the device to be replaced.
But WHICH ONE???
Any expert in this area can solve this question? I am a dummy for radio stuffs

I'm also very interested in this topic since I imported a Photon Q to Germany and was wondering if it's possible to use the local LTE 800/1800/2600 bands.
I think the first thing we have to find out is whether the hardware is capable of using other bands than the 1900 band listed on the Motorola website. As Loader009 states he could see LTE carriers which are known to use different bands I assume the hardware can do it. Otherwise the carriers wouldn't have been listed, right? Maybe someone from another country with different frequency bands can check and confirm that he can see those carriers as well?
Thus, the limitation to the 1900 band should be software-made and could be modified by a developer. I hope someone can participate at that point as I don't know much about coding...
I'm using CM10.1.
I can't remember the secret phone code, I have to do research again.
This secret phone code only works on Stock ROM. (I stupidly deleted it, when it wasn't working on CM10 anymore.)
The one secret phone code I used to force "LTE only" was *#*#4636#*#*.
Please DON'T change the baseband (don't even tap on it).
This can do problems to you. (I had to use QPST to recover the supported frequencies.)
Also, developers (afaik) can't modify the modem firmware.
We also don't even know, which LTE bands the Photon Q is capable of. (Except 1900 MHz)
I've got my 32GB SDCard back and will test it in the next few days out.
I hope I'll find that secret phone code, I'll also make a few screenshots.

Based on the document the chip can handle all LTE Standards, but it depends on his "advanced, programmable architecture"....as written there and how Motorola / Sprint implemented this, maybe they reduced LTE only to one Standard.
I don't have LTE in my area and so I cannot test this.

Something else:
If I remember correctly, somewhere in this forum have been said that for CDMA the internal Sprint "ID"(?) is used.
Maybe that's also the reason why I cannot connect to LTE in my area.
The phone is trying to "login" with the Sprint ID and this of course won't work.
The ##DEBUG# menu wasn't helpfull. It shows frequencies for american standards and not for GSM/WCDMA.
Also the LTE menu is also not very helpfull, it doesn't show frequencies at all.
Any News on this topic?

Yesterday I tested a LTE compatible SIM card.
My Bro has a Samsung Galaxy S4 with 4G/LTE in my area.
So I've put his SIM-Card into my Photon Q and set LTE only.
I had no luck, the Phone couldn't register into the network for this SIM.
I guess either it has the wrong frequencies or LTE is for inbuilt "SIM" (Sprint SIM?) only.
The latter. LTE is configured only for 1900 MHz which Sprint uses.
LTE is configured only for Sprint's frequencies, however, it supports the United States frequencies of PCS blocks A-G. The G Block is Sprint's current LTE channel, and they may deploy it later on Blocks A through F, depending on if they own the spectrum in a given market. The reason you see EU networks when the phone is in LTE Only Mode is most likely because the Phone still sees GSM signals, but will only connect to LTE ones from those GSM signals. Likewise, in the US, if you force LTE Only and then search for networks, AT&T and T-Mobile US will come up as the GSM carriers the Photon Q sees, rather than the LTE signals it sees.
Setting the Photon to LTE Only will not do anything for LTE in the EU. I suspect that if another carrier in the EU uses the 1900 MHz for LTE, the Photon Q will have no issues connecting to LTE in Europe. But until that time, be happy with HSPA.

IIRC The only place with 850mhz LTE available is the Chicago market and currently no phones at all support it. :crying:
Not only does your phone need to support it, your PRL and cell-site does too...
The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3(I535) has the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 plus MSM 8960 processor. The Qualcomm MSM 8960 is capable of supporting LTE band 13 and LTE Band 4(AWS).
The S3 only supports LTE Band 13
Q1. Is there firmware that will make this device support LTE Band4(AWS) also?
Q2. Is there a SW to make VOLTE calls using the S3?
I am looking to unlock LTE Band 4(AWS) on my VzW GS3.

I don’t know anything about the bands but if I'm correct volte is unsupported. I don't think any of the major carriers even support volte.
