[Q] About Usb Mass storage - Android General

I waner if Google is about to change that, "redicilous" policy with that MTP and PTP protocol.
That was one about, almost, dealbreak option. So if there is no chance to gove Usb Mass Storage protocol back, I'm, (mostly like), to change my approach to something other.
How about some demand towards google ?

[Q] android mass storage without asking everytime possible?

Is there anything that makes Android shut the hell up when i insert my USB cable? It should just active the mass storage and dont ask me everytime.
do your homework before posting there's an option for this in settings...If u cant find it install winamp/doubletwist ...for winmap go to settings and select(tick) enable auto-mount ..that does it...
You can select Mass storage in options, however, you still neet to "connect" before using it (at leasts that's the case with my SGS).

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Ace II - Disable MTP?

Hi all,
I've a proud owner of this I8160 phone. I'm glad of it, but the problem is that I can't access to the SD external's contents.
Firstly, I can get the USB working on PC by enabling it on "Settings -> Wireless networks -> USB settings". However, external SD (empty folders "external_sd" and "usbStorage" make me guessing about it) is not accessible, and I don't know how to get it.
I figured that "MTP connected" note on the phone has to be involved, so I tried to disable it. Searching in the web points to that USB debugging must be enabled; however, this won't perform anything new.
Hence, my question is, do you know how to disable the MTP connection on this phone? I want only USB mass storage, no kies at all!
Any ideas? Rooting may help?

No need to root your phone if you just want to transfer files. I have the same issue as yours.
Here's what I did:
1. On your phone go to settings>wifi and networks>USB Utilities
2. Do not connect the cable to the pc yet, tap first the box on the phone saying connect to pc (something like that)
3. Then connect the cable from the phone to the pc, a green android will appear then
You can now transfer files from your pc to your phone, vice versa.:good:

[Q] Safely disconnecting with CM10

Hey everyone, I'm currently running the latest stable version of CM10. My phone also has a microSD card inserted in it.
My question is about connecting to the computer via USB port. Normally, with stock, when you connect to a computer you have to allow it to connect and disconnect it before you remove it from the computer. I think it has to do with USB debugging (which I have off)? However, when I use CM10, I get no prompt whatsoever.
Is it safe to just put it in and pull it out (that's what she said)?
If I enable USB debugging will I get this prompt again? Is it even possible to get this prompt again?
I've tried looking all over for an answer, but it's kind of difficult to word in a search. I've been just pulling the plug, and I'd really hate to damage my precious SR!
Thanks, y'all

When you plug the usb in pull down the menu on your phone and it'll give you the option to connect usb. Just Swype down from the top of your screen.
God promised men that he'd put beautiful women in all corners of the world. Then he laughed and laughed and made the world round
I think CM10 and 10.1 have USB OTG which means you don't have to allow/disallow it anything. Just pull the usb cord and that's it.

Excellent, thanks!
I don't have this device but when you install JB, it use MTP mode as default, which is a Microsoft transfer standard. MTP mode allow you to use the phone storage space (and Sdcard) while transferring at the sametime, for example, if you have apps installed or files on your Sdcard they will still be accessible while plugged in. You can unplug it anytime and there are less chances of files corruption. However MTP also have its limitation such as being retarded.
The other mode is USB MSC (aka UMS aka usb mass storage) which we're familiar with. You could pull the chord with this mode too since its really how USB transferring is designed, but it's better to safe remove first to prevent corruption.
USB debugging is something different which allow ADB access, which I recommend turning off when not in use for security. It should work with both UMS and MTP mode.
USB OTG means on the go, which allow plugging in USB peripherals such as flash drives and is only available for phones that have both the hardware and kernel that support it. Sometimes you also need additional mounting software such as Stick Mount.
Some phones allow you to switch between UMS and MTP mode. Most newer ones running JB only have MTP mode and donot allow UMS mode at all, such as Nexus devices and Galaxy SIII. Also if the device only work with MTP you will not be able to mount USB storage to your PC while in CWM.

Android to Android MTP/PTP & USB OTG

Hello,
how can I share files between two android devices using USB OTG and PTP or MTP protocols? Or even better, between camera (PTP) and Android device (camera is detected correctly by phone and reacts on USB connection).
I know that Android can act as MTP or PTP slave. I want it to act as master.
Any ideas?

Just to be clear -- I've connected it this way: Android Phone -- USB OTG cable -- USB A-to-miniB -- Camera. Camera supports PTP. I see camera in USB list on phone, and camera notifies me that it is connected to computer, so physical connection is ok, only software on the phone is missing.
Bump!
I am also interested in this. I guess it can be achieved with a linux chroot, but I am looking for a pure android solution. Any ideas are welcome!

Mass Storage Mode S8+

Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to enable usb mass storage device mode on the S8+. I want to connect it to my car via usb but it doesn't let me. I have read that I need to connect it as a mass storage device however all the apps that say they can do this say that they can't find my 'lun' file. I can connect it via aux but then I can't control the music with the pause buttons etc. Bluetooth isn't an option as my car doesn't have it.
up for this
MTP all the way
Maybe the issue is not with your S8, but with your car's USB. Try both these steps to isolate the issue:
1. Connect your S8 to a laptop to check if you can enable mass storage.
2. Connect another phone to your car's USB to see if it allows and recognized the mass storage setting.
3. Try to connect your S8 to another car and see if the mass storage can be used.

That is not a issue with the car USB... That kind of radio only support universal mass storage devices, the old andorid devices, android 5 and below, could be mounted as a UMS device, so the radio would be able to play it's audio files. Now android devices can only be mounted as MTP, so it doesnt works. One thing that you can do is root your phone and use some UMS enabler app.
Guys, can I access my storage from recovery mode?
I cant unlock my phone and need to get data from storage.
Is there a mass storage option, like old times?
Thx
