USB & SD connection kit is pretty dang nifty.

Got my kit earlier this week for $20 US and in my opinion, a must-have accessory.
Being able to plug in an extra MicroSD card on the fly via the 30pin port, without having
to fuss with swapping out a card already in the internal port is really nice.
Also, I can now use my USB mouse with my Bluetooth keyboard for any heavy note taking.

[Q] Replacing microSD slot with full sized SD slot (tablet)

Hi,
I am thinking turning an cheap chinese Android tablet (probably 7 inch) into home "sound system" or jukebox (offline use, wall mount + wall charger powered) together with my PC active speakers. It is only for a small room, I know about common quality of the sound output of such devices and do not take it as problem.
However, I would like to make it easier to store and replace albums etc. and thus need to replace the tablet microSD slot with a slot for standard SD cards (expect 32GB or more 16GB pieces) which are cheaper and much easier to remove. Are there any expected issues related to removing current slot and soldering the new one? As I know from using passive SD adapters for microSD cards - both slots should have same wiring.
Did anybody here already tried something similar? Would appreciate advices or comments.
there shouldnt be any problem with soldering a full size one on as inside sd to micro sd convertors there is no circuitry it is just a pin to pin connection. and your project sound quite cool actually hope everything goes well :good:
Yes, it's possible but i would be scared about doing something similar except if the tablet is dead and this is need to revive it.
You need a good hand to solder it, take care about near circuits! Don't keep your solder near circuits too much, just a few seconds to get you soldering!
Let us know if you'll try this mod!
Hi,
I know the circuitry is very sensitive and I planned to ask my friend who has professional soldering station. However, we just found out that the tablet we have (noname chinese 7-inch tablet without battery, but works OK on usb power) should support USB host (it is switched on in kernel and my brother found some info related the motherboard), so I will order some cheap USB host cable on Ebay and check this alternative first. It would be better for me as I could use common flash disks as music storage.
So will see....

Case that adds SD.

So does anyone know if there is a case that adds ports or an SD card to the 1 + 6? That would be amazing since all these dev are killing the SD. But I have not been able to fine any. Is there something wrong with this idea?

Devs are killing SD cards?!
Wow, I never knew developers could remove the slot physically before the device even enters production.
As for the need for SD cards on the go, I suggest this:
Ingelon Micro SD Card Reader Metal OTG Adapter USB type c tf card adapter usb3.1 usb c type adapter Microsd Card Reader
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/caeALW01
You can put it on your keychain, it's small and it looks good.
I ordered one for myself so that my 128GB SD card currently in my old phone doesn't just sit idle in it.
You realize that the manufacturer is still the developer of the phone right? And yes, as you can see by the 1+6 the ROG phone, and others they are sliding toward having no card slot so that we have to buy the expensive model. Like @#$&ing apples stupidity.
Hey I found this but they don't have one for our phone yet.

Why is this turning into a argument people? I asked about a case not your criticism.
Now, I will state the question again, and please try to stay on topic.
Does everyone know of a case that could add a SD reader? Or multiple USB C ports for that matter?
Thanks.

Can anyone recommend a VERY small micro USB flash drive?

See, my phone (Moto X 2013) supports OTG, but does not have a micro SD slot.
It only has 16 GB of storage which has proven to fall short for my needs because I love listening to music on the go, and I have a lot of music.
Another thing is that the USB port of my phone has some short of false contact after years of use, so sometimes a little wiggle can make it disconnect, this is the main reason why I want the USB to be so small, so that when I walk with it on my pocket, it doesn't get disconnected because I touched it 'wrong'.
So that's the question, do you know of any small micro USB device (without the need of a micro USB adapter because it adds length and volume)?
Something like the Sandisk Cruze but on a micro USB form, something that looks more like the USB plug of a wireless keyboard than a USB storage device. Thank you.
As a side note, I was thinking of those phone cases that serve as external batteries, well if there was something like that but that served as a micro SD to micro USB adapter, I could use that. The thing is that I have seen no such thing for sale and even if there was, I doubt I would be able to find one for my exact phone model from 7 years ago.

Question USB c audio jack adapters do not work??

I just got two different ones and the s22u reports "usb device not recognised" and they do not work for audio out. Is there a workaround for this? I can't believe usb c audio out is busted.
Use the Samsung one... it must have a compatible built in DAC.
I don't see one in shop sansung,, but an old WISH one we bought fir our N20U works fine...its just uglier...lol!
I just tried a Google USB C to headphone converter that came with a Pixel phone several years ago and it worked fine with a Samsung S21U. I’ll have to try it again when my S22U arrives later this month.

They are also fragile. I still have mine but I rarely use it. B&H Photo and Newegg have them.

I was just looking...Amazon has them as well but many have issues both quick charging and playing audio at the same time.

The easiest way is to use Buds+ or a LDAC headphones. It won't charge well (no fast charging, very slow charging if at all) with the screen on. If using bluetooth and an app like Poweramp with the screen off it will charge normally.
My car doesn't have bt audio, so I use the adapter to drive music to my car stereo.

If you use a player like Poweramp with the screen off it uses little power going through the dongle DAC. If you need an active internet connection you can't do that. Another reason I don't like cloud crap instead of an SD card.
We have plenty of music storage on our 512gb s22u. I just need a way to get it into the car...lol!
(We also don't use the cloud...we rely on local storage.)

Simply use Poweramp as it's a powerful music player. Setup is lengthy but is extremely configurable. The music library must be redundantly backed up along with the Poweramp setting export file. Lose either one and you are boned. Many hours can go into setting up Poweramp settings and play lists.
My music collection is 224 gb plus even more movies and it's kept on the .5tb SD card is spite of having 512gb internal memory so a crash can't wipe it. My other 256gb N10+ will likely get a 1tb SD card.
Only the apps, the DCIM and the download folders (both temporary for holding) go on the internal memory. The N10+ SD cards are then redundantly backed up to multiple stand alone hdds which are the primary backup. I don't have too much faith in flash memory for data retention.
The reason I'll never have a S22U is no SD card slot, and I want a right handed spen. Samsung actually said most users hold the phone with their right hand. Not. Idiots.
Samsung has gone rock stupid.
Meh, don't get me started Samsung started going off road with the N20U and is now lost somewhere in the iPhone badlands.
I enjoy pointing that out to "we still have the 3.5mm jack" Samsung...
Honestly, if I need more storage I'll just use the usbc dongle and plug a portable drive in.
Part of the reason all phones moved to internal ram and ditched the sd cards us the sd cards are slower.. so you can't record 8k 30 or 60 fps video to them, and users buying cheap slower cards were slamming the devices because of the poor resulting performance.
I'd also prefer the s pen back on the right, but the handset just performs a lot better than the n20u, and the camera is just jaw dropping amazing.
A data drive doesn't need to be fast, it needs the be large. It can transfer data at whatever speed from the OS drive, it only needs to be fast enough for streaming movies and music.
V-30, [email protected] maybe too slow for 8k
V-60 or 90 are fast enough for 8k*.
Regardless the DCIM folder should be on internal memory... so again speed is not needed. V-30 will support 4k vids (3840 x 2160 pixel) which overkill for this display size.
Not isolating the OS drive from the data drive is a mistake with serious implications.
It also needlessly and arbitrary limits the storage capacity of the device... just like a bad Apple.
My first N10+ is 512/12gb, the second is 256/12gb because it's just the OS drive. Nothing tangible is gained in my application by having more internal memory... so I didn't. The only thing that is important is having a V-30 rated SD card.
*a dedicated pro cam be a better choice at this resolution than a smartphone. The lens and sensor size of a smartphone is inadequate for needed light gathering ability.
Who's Samsung trying to fool?
So if you hate the s22 series, why are you in the s22 forum?
You asked how to hook it up...
Furthermore if you get a combination dongle that allows charging and playback you will create a ground loop, do not do this.
Funny...I've been using a combo charger/ audio jack dongle for two years now on our n20u since its release with zero issues.
Any suggestion of USB-C to 3.5mm audio dongle?

That looks like it might work, and I like it doesn't have the big square dongle.

Yeah I know... but then you never saw what happens when a 50khz feedback loop developes.
Amp output>crossover network>tweeters>
Takes a second or less to burn out the voice coils, may also damage the power amp.
If direct coupling (optical toshlink is preferred) into a preamp or power amp ground loops matter...
