Hi Guys.
As you can see, this is my first post on here but I'm hoping you can help.
I picked up my first tablet, the great ASUS Infinity TF700T about a week ago, following which I read up on unlocking/rooting
& successfully unlocked, rooted & installed CHROMi-X (v4.6.6, which I have just flashed to v4.6.7). I'm now starting to use the tablet for the things I want to do, one of which is listening to music/watching films, & this is where I've come across my first issue.
I have a pair of superb Logitech V20 USB 2.0 speakers, which are powered by USB. These speakers work perfectly well with my laptop but when I plug them into the full-sized USB port on the Infinity's dock, the sound, which, when playing through the Infinity's own speaker is also perfect, albeit quiet & lacking any real bass, is awful. The audio can be heard but only just, as it is somewhat distorted & there is a loud crackling noise associated it. I've tried using different media players (VLC, MX Player, Meridian) & changing their settings (including decoders where possible) but nothing makes any difference.
Does anyone know what the problem is? I'm going to be gutted if I can't get any decent sound from this device, especially since it's so awesome otherwise :crying::crying::crying:
Thanks in advance
Just to let you know, I just thought to try my wireless USB mouse in the dock's USB port & that works fine (except that rolling the wheel down scrolls the web page up & vice versa but this is also the case when I use the touch pad to scroll. Any ideas why that is or whether it can be changed would be helpful too?
Oh, & if anyone knows how I can get my @ and " symbols to switch back to the correct keys (at the moment, the @ is on the 2 key where the " should be & vice versa), that would also be good?
Cheers :good:

The USB port on the Infinity's dock is not made to power speakers so you wont be able to get them to sound anything much, lucky to even get them working. If you want to scroll, try holding down both button and going up and down with the mouse, maybe it will scroll, because the keypad will scroll whatever it is on when you use 2 fingers on it and go up and down.

Did you select the correct SKU in the installer? I have a US keyboard and the @ symbol is on the 2 key.

Decent Audio?
HI Guys,
So, thanks for your responses so far.
berndblb, in answer to your question about the correct SKU, if by that you mean the bit where I had to choose either US or WW during the CHROMi-X setup, as far as I'm aware, yes, being in the UK, I did choose the WW option but is there any way I can check this or would I have to re-flash my device & start all over again after I've spent the last week setting it all up?
Tylorw1, with regard to my USB powered speakers, it doesn't sound like I have much choice in wanting to use them, which is a shame as they're superb & don't need any additional chargers etcetera, which is great when I'm travelling
However, if that is the case, which I imagine it is because I don't suppose that there's any way to make the tablet's USB power the speakers, what's the best way for me to get decent sound from the tablet? I've read about both Bluetooth & speakers that connect to the 3.5mm headphone socket but are there other types & which is the best option, that is, which gives the best sound?
I've read that the BT speakers can have connection issues but I don't really want to have to clip anything to the tablet & obscure part of the screen whilst I'mwatching films, which is how most of the other type of speakers seem to work. Plus, of course, I'll need to carry around seperate chargers.
Coincidentally, I was about to buy the Bose Soundlink II BT speaker for use with my phone whilst I'm at work. Would you recommend this for the tablet aswell, or is there another speaker/type of speaker you prefer. My main concern is the sound quality. Cost comes a close second but within reason, I can stretch a little if there's something worth stretching for
I hope you can help?

Your SKU is under About Tablet > Build Number. After the bootloader version it will show US/WW/ODEX/DEODEX
Also check what keyboard and language you have selected under Language & Input.

Cool, I'm not a moron It says WW/DEODEX. I'd already checked the options I knew about, so Language is set to English (UK) & keyboard is set to Swiftkey. That said, now I'm puzzled as to why those 2 keys should be the wrong way round. Your suggestion made perfect sense but if I've not made a mistake, why else would they be the wrong way round? As I said, I have installed the SwiftKey keyboard; it couldn't be that, could it?

Ok, I got it.
Under Language & Input, tab the Asus keyboard, set the language to English (UK)
Tap "Defaut", set the hardware keyboard to "on" and select the Asus keyboard as default for it.
I just switched to English UK under Asus keyboard and did have the " where @ belongs (for me)

That's the ROM version, not the bootloader version.
We're cross-posting here :sly:
I also use Swiftkey. I just tried what I believe is your setup:
Swiftkey as default for hard and soft keyboards.
Cannot replicate the switch....
The only way I can find to switch keyboard layout is by selecting the Asus keyboard as default for hard keyboard an changing the language for it to English UK :what:

It's Not SwiftKey
To rule SwiftKey out, I've just downloaded the US Keyboard & tried typing with it set to UK & then US. Bizarrely, there's no difference either way; I still get @ on the 2 & " where @ should be on the ' ??????

I doubt that Swiftkey would have the functionality to re-assign the association for the hardware keys.
Swiftkey is build for software keyboards mostly, for a great variety of devices.
Probably the Asus keyboard is the only one specifically designed to work for the hardware keyboard.
Try the Google keyboard, play around with settings.... Good luck!

Actually, It Is SwiftKey!
So berndblb, once you got me thinking about bringing the stock keyboard into the equation, I've just played about with it & if I make the stock keyboard the default, my @ & " are the correct way round; if I use SwiftKey, they're the incorrect way round, regardless of whether I have it set to US or UK. Annoying but I'll get over it.
Anyway, I'm getting off topic. The main point of this post was to try & get people's opinions on how I'm going to get the best sound from my tablet, given that I can't use my USB powered speakers due to the Infinity's USB port not having the capability to power them!
Any suggestions/opinions would be most appreciated
Right, when you installed the rom it also included Keyboard Manager (unless you chose not t install it). The reason I include this is to fix this exact problem. Basically in keyboard manager set up the keyboard to be ASUS when you are docked and it will keep your layout rather than switch to the default US that swiftkey forces. Naughty swift key
Perfect

Hey sbdags,
Thanks for that; it worked perfectly. That sort of support from the developer of the ROM I'm using is superb but part of the reason I installed CHROMi-X was that I learned, particularly from reading berndblb's posts, that you possessed a high level of attention to detail, so being a fellow perfectionist, that kind've swayed me I had already looked at the app but didn't fully understand what its' purpose was.
Now I've got that sorted & I'm used to the scrolling difference between the Infinity & my pc, might I ask one more noob question?
I presume you've read that my initial query was with regard to my USB powered speakers not working with my Infinity (that's not the question )? Tylorw1 replied that this was due to the Infinity's USB port not being capable of providing enough power. Given that I believe it unlikely that I could do anything about that, I asked if anyone had any recommendations of what speakers, of what type, would allow me to get the best sound from my tablet. However, whilst my questions about the USB port & now the keyboard have been answered, no-one has mentioned the actual speakers.
Is that because I'm asking in the wrong place, or even on the wrong site, as this is a developers site & you guys only help with software/performance issues? I figured that even if that was the case, that as you guys spend so long with your devices, your advice might be the most reliable & useful?
Thanks in advance
I doubt many users have USB powered speakers that is all. I've certainly never used any. It's possible it's an android USB thing but USB is an international standard so I suspect that it is more low level in the USB driver modules or kernel even.
It's unlikely to be an easy fix. You could try asking Asus if they support USB speakers but it is very possible they won't know.
What DO you guys use?
Thanks for that but if this is the case.......

I'm always amazed that the manufacturers of products seem unable to answer questions about them; if they don't know their products inside out, why be so against other people working things out & telling those who have questions?
Bose Soundlink II
Hi Guys,
I just thought I'd let you all know that I finally went for the Bose Soundlink II mobile speaker & it's awesome! If I didn't know better, I'd swear that the sound was coming from a much larger speaker & the accuracy of the sound from it, in comparison to my audiophile home separates system with floorstanding speakers & a 24 inch cubed acive subwoofer, is amazing.
Oh & I'm loving my TF700T more as every day passes
Thanks for all your help so far (& for all the help you'll hopefully provide if I ever come up against any more problems )

Check out this thread. People report that USB audio is working on different devices. But from what I have read you need to be on cyanogenmod.
Hopefully our kernel supports USB audio. I'm sorry I can't check right now if it does.
Good luck

Are you saying though, that if I want my USB speakers to work, I would need go flash Cyanogenmod? If so, given that I've now forked out for this superb Bose Soundlink bluetooth speaker & I love Chromi-X, I would be rather loathed to do it.
Thanks for the advice

Hi,
I want to buy my first tablet and I am looking for something with 9-10 inches screen and sure android based. So far I decided that the Asus Transformer TF700 is the answer for me (the 32 GB version) I am wondering whether there are other potential good tablets with the same price tag or this is the best one can get in this price range.
Thanks.
Right now I would wait if I could reconsider. See if nexus coming with a bigger tablet.
This isn't a horrible tablet yet there are serious issues and Asus seems like neglected us

I would buy it again. We've got some great ICS and Jelly Bean custom roms (some are a work in process, but almost there--good enough to be my daily driver) and the official JB update is coming soon. I guess ASUS quality assurance leaves something to be desired, but my tablet and dock are great and I'm very happy with the Infinity.
2 weeks in to owning it and i would buy it again. I have not noticed any physical problems with my device.
I kinda wish i would have tried a 7" so that it was easier to carry around at times. I still think that I would want to have this device in the end. I love the I/O connections(kinda slow) but very helpful when I am shooting video with a bunch of GoPros outdoors. Now i don't have a carry a full sized laptop just to manage the files.
Sadly, I returned my third TF700 back to Amazon yesterday. Between the loosely mounted screen, the poor wifi reception (despite being a few feet from the router) and the multiple-times-per-day reboots due to icon disappearances and crashes, I couldn't justify keeping it.
With that said, I have every intention of buying it again once JB is officially released for it. The tablet display is gorgeous and I love the overall weight and form factor. I could have lived with the slight display mounting issue but I couldn't get around how laggy and crash-prone it was.
I have JB on my Galaxy Nexus and the performance is stellar and given what I've read from TF700 owners who have added a custom JB ROM to their tablets, I am confident that once an official ASUS build is released, most/all of the software problems will be resolved. Right?
Ehhh...
I'd buy again.
Probably try to get a champagne one and 64gb...of course the money would be more.
I really want to get another Acer A700 because the price tag on that tab is steadily dropping.

It's looking good. We're just at the beginning of that road, but there's a lot that can be done. Better luck next time!
As it stands right now, I suggest you should hold on to your money, Asus tf700 is a big disappointment for me. I was so excited about this table, and now NO ONE in my family wants to use it. The only thing good about this table is the high resolution screen, but maybe this's the issue, the O/S is not optimized for this kind of resolution? who knows? Anyway If you really like this table, wait until they released Jelly Been and check back to this forum to see it indeed Jelly Bean will addressed all the issues. Don't listen to the people that claimed they love their tables, maybe a few out there claimed that have a perfect one? but the odds will go against you. Not worth 600$ the way it works right now.
I'd buy again -- love the connectivity, love the screen -- lots of storage space. Furthermore, I have few issues with mine, and the keyboard dock is the absolute hammer for me -- typing and an extra battery. Seals the deal!
I love it, and would still buy it
I would still buy it also.
There are only four things that annoy me so far:
- It takes a few seconds for the keyboard to initialize, so you have to wait a few seconds with enter the code
- Tegra 3 seems to have a little strugle with handling 1920x1200, especially compared with CM10 (JB) on my Galaxy S2
- Android interface, especially in 3rd party apps is not yet tailored to use with a keyboard
- USB and SD going in to sleep together with the system, so I cannot charge my phone via micro-USB and it has to re-initialize SD every time (I like to have a setting for this)
Judging on what an improvement going from ICS to JB (CM9 --> CM10) made for my SGS2 I expect most of these issues to be resolved in the future with updated software, so I'm not woried.
What I absolutely love:
- The size as a small laptop and the detachable 'screen', and using the touchscreen (it draws attention when commuting in the train ), the aways-on just like a phone
- That it doesn't get hot - at all (unlike my Galaxy S2)
- Brightness of the screen, and it's resolution
- The good battery life when used in conjuction with the dock (which is how I use it 95% of the time)
I really don't like saying this because I have had very good results with Asus products I have purchased over the years. I would, buy a Samsung or a Toshiba. I am thinking about returning it again and just doing this and having it over with once and for all. I know they aren't as nice as the Asus but I sit here everyday and watch my wife do everything SHE wants to do on her Toshiba AT105-T1032 while she simultaneously laughs at me plodding along on my quad core super tablet. Opps, gotta go now she wants to see who's will boot up first from power off. I loose everytime, man I'm getting tired of doing the dishes every night

FYI - there is a "solution" to problems 1 & 4: If you want to be able to use the keyboard instantly after turning in on and keep your USB port on the dock active when the TF700 is in standby, you can do that by disabling the "Mobile Dock Battery Saving" mode in Settings->Asus customized settings. Just make sure you back out of the settings screen in order to make the setting "take effect". This will also allow you to wake your TF700 with the keyboard dock (instead of using the power button).
The downside is that your TF700 will never enter "deep sleep", so your battery will drain faster in standby mode...
I just tested this and was able to charge my Nexus 7 from from TF700, even in standby mode.
So, there already is a setting for this....
Regarding the keyboard, I've yet to have any issues with the keyboard in third party apps - could you please elaborate?
Hope this helps.

I love my infinity, the keyboard dock is just what i wanted
The IO issues of tegra3, poor Asus customer support, Bad warrenty coverage (everything is CID), and high fail rate make me sad tho...
Would i buy another one? Not likely. I'd prolly stick with the galaxy tab 2, Samsung may not update as quickly howeverits very easy to flash custom kernels and roms and loooots of options there.
If only we could get the Asus tablet with Samsung level QA and workmanship. Lots of people bash how "plastic" Sammy devices feel but i have yet to have one fall apart on me
Yeah, I think that Asus was more concerned with form over function with the TF700 - they were so worried about being the thinnest and lightest tablet (along with being nice looking) that they were just too hard to actually build!
We'll see how things go in the future, especially with Jelly Bean, but I just get the feeling that the TF700 isn't going to stand the test of time. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

Had my TF700 64gb 5 weeks and yes would buy again, very good screen as I use outdoors mostly in very bright light 7inch would just not be big enough for me. Had the occassional reboot but so much better with a cold reboot once a week thanks to the advice on this forum.
No loose screen or noticable light bleed, wifi connection in comparison with my Samsung Gio is just as good if not a little better.
I did not buy the model with the keyboard dock as it was not available at the time of purchase and still a little nervouse about getting one due to the screen crack issue but have invested in the Anker Archos3 battery which is great if you are out for a full day and need that extra bit of battery power.
This is my first tablet but have used an android phone before, did not want to go down the Apple route seems to be more of a fashionable item to buy going back to the ipod days and that sort of thing always puts me off.
There are always going to be problems with an early adoption of any device so far I am a happy user.

Actually that was one of the first things I did Because I use my tranformer as a PC replacement. I didn't want to push the unlock button every time. The SD-card still powers off in this mode when the screen is of and there is the delay when typing in in a password or code from the keyboard.
I've btw done a lot of optimizing by now on the stock rom -for which you need root access - Disabled a great bunch of programs, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1897099. Also I now disabled some more programs, replaced the stock launcher with a lightweight alternative (Holo launcher HD), and replaced all media related programs (Gallery, Google Play Music, Videoplayer) with lightweight alternatives (Quickgallery, Clean player, BSplayer which serves as a youtube substitute as well). This allows you to disable the media storage process alltogether. This appears to take a great load of the Infinity's shoulders and it now is starting the feel and behave like a state-of-the-art PC system in terms of speed and input response BTW Office Suite let's you use the cursor keys and shift keys in it's spreadsheet editor and is not laggy unlike it's competitors when using this input method (Quickoffice, for which I still had a licence and Polaris which is preinstalled). Also Dolphin Browser beta is not laggy when typing from the keyboard like Firefox Beta, next to that it allows you to use the scroll wheel on a external mouse and seems to perform better on a optimized system than FF beta (which was my prefered solution when I still had my system less optimized).

Hmm, I'm a little confused now - the OP stated that your USB port won't charge your phone, yet you say that you have already disabled the "Mobile Dock Power Save Mode"? Or are you saying that you disabled that *after* posting the original post? Like I said, even in standby, I can still charge USB devices with that mode disabled...

Or are you saying that you disabled that *after* posting the original post? Like I said, even in standby, I can still charge USB devices with that mode disabled...

In my situation:
- Screen on: It charges my phone over microusb
- Screen of: nope
Also a sd-card in the docking station is remounted every time the screen goes on.
Mobile battery switching mode is de-selected.
When it's enabled the keyboard can also not wake the tablet, have to use the power button on the tablet itself then.

Strange - that's how mine acted before disabling the mobile dock battery saving mode, but after disabling it,my tablet will continue to change my devices even when screen is off and I can wake my table my simply touching the trackpad (even if it's disabled). You may want to try enabling and re-disabling the battery saving mode, making sure to exit setting after each change....

So one feature not many people realize the Samsung Galaxy S3 has is the ability to redirect the line output through a dock. This is particularly helpful in a car where you can have it actually output straight to the stereo system when you plug it into a dock, but even in a home environment it can be handy if you have a dock with speakers built in or just leave something plugged into a dock for convenience. However, it seems in CyanogenMod 10 monthly at least it doesn't work. When I clicked the "request device support" button (thinking he probably wouldn't even touch CM10 given that it's still not really "officially supporting" the SGS3 yet anyway, I did get this response:
Please have the ROM dev supporting your model verify the correct mapping exists between the ROM audio device and the kernel audio path (commonly set in libaudio).
Example: DEVICE_OUT_ANLG_DOCK_HEADSET in ROM should map to the path PLAYBACK_EXTRA_DOCK in the kernel.

Dan

So if I go by this it sounds like it's mostly just a matter of a configuration in the audio libraries being used and I just need to let someone know.
I know this isn't important by any means, but it does seem like something that should probably still go in there just whenever they could get around to it. It can be very convenient at times IMO.
I believe all the framework is there.. we are just waiting on http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/25274/ to be merged.

Ah, this is good to hear. It's obviously no high priority, so it will go in when it goes in, but I was worried I'd have to contact all sorts of people to bring it up as it seems like something they wouldn't have even thought of.
Thanks for the info.
I want this also, believe me. I just bought 5 of the Infuse 4G docks that ATT had on sale for 5 dollars. 2 desk docks and 3 car docks.

I'm cheating. I ripped apart a desk dock that was being clearanced out by a seller on Amazon for the Galaxy S2 I think it was, and adapted it to be my car dock. The USB connector is on a small cable already, so the cable just sticks out and the rest of the electronics are housed in a micro-sized Altoids tin (one of those little ones you can buy for $1 or so.) This way I can just plug it in and it's compatible with my Otterbox, so this method can be convenient for anyone who wants a "dock" that's compatible with skins and cases at the catch that the cable must be manually plugged in after dropping it into a generic dock. Super-cheap too since so many of the older ones are being clearanced out with the SGS3 now out. The only catch being that, of course, some work is required and of course anything remotely resembling a warranty on the dock is utterly wiped out, lol.
Along with a dock control app that is set to automatically change settings like Bluetooth and to start my audio player, it's super convenient to just drop the phone into the generic dock in my car, plug that cable in, and I'm ready to go. I was using the line output redirector tool along with the stock firmware, but in the end I'd rather CyanogenMod and something minor like no line output redirecting (yet!) was no deterrent...

I looked at that link but can't figure out how the CM projects work. Is this change for Verizon GS3 only or is going to be included for all carriers? Also, the status of the change is merged. How can I see which nightly this went into?
I could be wrong, but I'm inclined to say that something like this would be at a different level than anything carrier-specific as it's really just a hardware-specific level and thus should be the same across all carriers. However, if it helps any, I can say that I'm using d2vzw (aka Verizon.)
Also, the status of the change is merged. How can I see which nightly this went into?

Ah, I didn't notice that. I just checked on mine and it's in the stable 10.0 which I switched to the other day. I don't know what nightly it might have first made it into, but in other words, it's there now. I'm using the "Galaxy Dock Sound Redirector" app personally.
EDIT: Woops! Correction. I was using that program from before because the original firmware required it to redirect the sound. However, it looks like there is a setting in the advanced section under sound. I haven't tested to see if it works as fully for me (it's not helping that I use a dock originally made to be a "desk" dock in my car, so a lot of things react differently) but likely that app is only necessary with the stock firmware.
EDIT2: Had time to test it now. CM10 stable's dock output works perfectly entirely on its own. I don't need a third party app or anything. It's just in kind of an unusual location (IMO it might be better if it were in the sound section.)
So I recently updated to the 10.1 now that they have a monthly available (basically it was suggested to me that monthlies could be considered more "stable" and reliable than, say, nightlies if any CyanogenMod could really be called stable, lol) and much to my chagrin it seems like the dock audio no longer works with this one even though that patch was supposedly accepted for 10.0? (Surely they wouldn't remove it?) Is something just set wrong, or has dock audio support on the SGS3 actually disappeared after they went to all the trouble to add it?
It's a sad day to see something take a step backwards like this. I can only hope it will be resolved later, but who knows?
I bought the MW1 last week, and I've had time to play with it, but not to fix the problems I've found, so partly to explain my problems to possible buyers, and partly to get help to fix my problems, I'm writing this review.
First of all, I listened to the headphones that came with the MW1 unit for all of ten minutes. I'm sure they were fine, wonderful and would imbue all music with a magic substance, but I already have a set of Shures, and I don't need them.
Pairing the MW1 with the phone was supposed to be a matter of NFC-touching, but that didn't work. Instead I used the "quick start guide", and it took me about three minutes to set it up once and for all, and it's automatically connected to the phone every time I've switched it on ever since. Basically, you switch it on, and all sound should output through the MW1 instead of from the phone. This is not always true, which I'll come back to.
Sound is fantastic. I can't head any difference between using my Shure through the MW1 and directly to the phone, although I've used my normal music files, which are in AAC ~192kbit VBR, so I'm sure someone with higher standards would find something to complain about. Since 90% of what I listen to is podcasts and audiobooks, we're well past my level already.
Now, the hardware: the unit itself has some pretty obvious faults, which makes it very obvious that this is 1.0 hardware. In fact, I would call it 0.5 hardware. Sony has made some very odd choices, and these are definitely the most important downsides to this unit.
First of all, both the microSD-card and the micro-USB port are inside a lid which looks so much like the lid to a USB-stick that I find myself wondering why they didn't do the obvious thing and simply add a normal USB plug so we could just charge it by sticking it into a computer/USB power adapter, instead of mucking about with a cable. The only thing they would have to move is the microSD-slot, which would fit behind the USB plug just fine.
Second, the power button. If you've seen any reviews about this unit, you'll have heard about the power button. It strikes me that whomever decided that the power button should be of the "hold in for three seconds"-type, be completely impossible to press without half-inch nails, and be located at the WORST POSSIBLE PLACE on the unit, decides ten lashes and a dishonorable discharge from the world of product design.
Now, this is about all there is to say about the actual MW1, but as promised, I'm going to try to talk about how it works with the Xperia Z.
First of all, you must understand that at least 70% of the reason I bought the MW1 in the first place is the lid over the headset-port on the phone. To have to fumble around with my nail to fit into a specific slot out of several completely identical slots around the edges of my phone was COMPLETELY out of the picture. And yes, this solves that problem.
Another problem, however, appears shortly after. I have several applications which play audio, and since I no longer pick up the phone, unlock the screen, (sometimes change application) and THEN press play in the app I want, the phone easily gets confused as to which app is to get the "play" message from the MW1. You'd think perhaps that the Walkman app would be in a default-position just like iTunes is on macs, or Windows Media Player is on Windows, but no - for some reason it just selects completely by random any old running app, and outputs the sound. For me, when pausing Pocketcasts and then pressing play again a few minutes later, it seems to be about 50% chance that Pocketcasts picks up again (which is almost always what I wanted, and ALWAYS what I want to have happen), 25% PowerAmp even though it is never loaded and just installed in case I ever want to play music from my phone at a party or something, and 25% a completely random audio player, including (but certainly not limited to) Smart Audiobook Player, Plex, Winamp, Walkman or ANY other app I have installed on my phone.
So in short: great unit, get it if you can, but if there is ever a version 2.0 of this device and they haven't fixed the power button, please apply for a position with Sony's hardware design group, cause apparently they're useless.
Also, if anyone knows of any way to permanently bind the play button to "whichever app I just paused, you nitwit", let me know.
Also, these units are pretty damn cheap these days, mine was well under 100 USD, and it's well worth it. If you need an extra pair of headphones - fantastic - but even the bluetooth unit itself is worth the price.
Hey, thanks for the short review.
I'm using a Jabra Clipper. Till now it always started the walkman app, and the buttons did what i wanted. but today i had some problems with skipping songs. gotta see if it will reoccure.
the biggest issue i have is the weak signal strength. it's definitly working better than with my old S2, but never the less, the signal is very easy interrupted. Even if the phone is in the pocket of my jeans and i slightly cover it, because my hand is in there too.
I wonder if the MW1 has the same issues.
Not really. I have a Plantronics Voyager something something, and that has horrible distortion issues if I so much as think about putting the phone in the same-side jeans pocket, but the MW1 goes strong even if I'm in another room.
Of course, that could be because the MW1 unit is much larger...
I wonder if this will help: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.harleensahni.android.mbr&hl=no
My Jabra works even in 5m distance, but loses signal as soon as the phone is behind my back.
The MW1 costs twice as much as the clipper.
Nice app, will check it out. Thanks
Hello... I'm thinking in buying the MW1 but I have a question. Currently, I have the JAYS a-JAYS One+ that comes with a microphone.
I think the device of the MW1 has a built in mic so how it would behave if I connect the JAYS to the MW1 since the two have built in microphones? Which one would work to answer calls? The one in the MW1 or the one in the JAYS One+?
Thanks in advance.
The MW1. The microphone on the headphones wouldn't be connected to anything.
Note: I am making an educated guess.
2 Tom Fagerland,
I was wondering : any improvement since firmware update?
Another thing,
About the choice of application while pressing play/pause, have you tried the "Headset Button Controller" ?
I had similar problems with normal wired headset. This app solved my problems. Good luck!

Wait! Are all here talking about the same product?? MW1 Sony Wireless Headset Pro?
Then i must tell you what i think because i have both Clipper and MW1 and i can tell you whats are you doing wrong
first of all is THE ultimate headset..and if you don't use smart connect..you loose all the power of it..
link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...NvbS5zb255ZXJpY3Nzb24uZXh0cmFzLmxpdmV3YXJlIl0.
Second, it has PERFECT range about 30-40m with out problem! (clipper works fine around 10m with no walls)
Third, connect apps on your device to make the headset works like you want!
Link:https://play.google.com/store/apps/...4uZXh0cmFzLnNtYXJ0d2lyZWxlc3NoZWFkc2V0cHJvIl0.
and something about NFC??? Jesus..read the hardware specifications..NFC no needed
My friend i think you have no idea how powerful is that headset!
IF anyone wants help here i am!
Of course I use SmartConnect
About the buttoncontroller app: Excellent tip, I have bought it now (after checking that it's compatible) and will try it out this week. Thanks for that!
Otherwise, no changes since .253, no. I still use it, though. It's still fantastic, even with having to grab the phone and making adjustments to make Walkan stop playing at the same time as Audible...

About updates: If you have smart connect on ANY android phone..then you can update the Firmware of the headset from the phone (wifi needed). the other way you use MicroSd card (about 300kb .bin file on the root of the MicroSD) or using USB (hold BACK button and plug the usb) and software FLASH the .bin file automatic for you.

I just installed the new one today, I've been sick for about a week. This is the first update I've had since I started using it, so I've not had any changes.
Thanks a lot.

Just one question:
Is the XZ compatible with its other features, like the display of the caller name and song title and viewing text messages/emails?

Yes, the Headset displays tracknames, caller names, etc. with my Xperia Z. But I had some trouble at first that the headset was not able to skip tracks when the screen was off and the phone locked with the android pin. After the latest update of my Z and the use of sony smart connect it works fine!

Used the headset for about a week with both headset button controller and the new firmware. No change at all, everything in the first post still stands unfortunately.
Still really like the headset, though, despite all that.
I've got a question about the mp3 player... if I pause it and turn it off... will it remember where I was the next time I turn it on.
I'm thinking of listening to audiobooks on it, but then it's very important that it remembers where it was last time when you power on the device.

They're pretty similar... Both have 2 row displays and FM receivers but while the SBH50 has NFC capabilities which is supposed to make pairing easier, the MW1 has a microSD card slot which turns it into a standalone mp3 player as well.
Not sure where you read that the SBH50 is more power efficient? On the sony site they mention 11h for the MW1 but say nothing about the SBH50.

So, I've spent a couple of months with the ASUS TF700T and its keyboard dock. Time to rant about things I don't like.
1) Startup time. Cold boot takes more than a minute. This is truly sad when Windows 8 Ultrabooks and Macbooks boot in seconds. Slower processor based android phones also boot faster. Why ASUS? What are you doing in this minute?
2) Critical Bugs. By that I mean glitches that cause the tablet to hang, randomly reboot or randomly shutdown. It's not hot. It's not being used for hours. It just crashes the kernel. It should NOT do that ASUS. I don't need that. Crash the app if you have to, not the whole tablet! Similarly with hot-plugging the dock sometimes.
3) Non-critical Bugs. That refers to little things that don't really affect productivity with the tablet but are driving me (and many others) insane.
a) What is this graphics card driver / whatever else issue that causes the random black lines to flicker on the screen at random intervals? What are these lines? ASUS, you can definitely reproduce this. This is not found on any other android device that I own (Samsung and HTC phones and tablets mainly). I realise it may not be a big deal (stuff does not crash at least), but this is a £500 tablet. This should not be an issue. Really.
b) What is wrong with the keyboard driver? Why do I need an independent app (External Keyboard Helper) to enjoy my hardware keyboard dock that you charge £100? How can this guy make such a great app, with no issues with dead keys (you know what I mean - greek 'tonos' or accent), and you, ASUS, after breaking this functionality on Jelly Bean, can't find a fix? Buy his keyboard and bundle it with your tablets, that's my answer. Give up on this ridiculous "ASUS Keyboard". It's a joke needing a separate keyboard for every language, particularly one that does not work properly. Use Google's standard. Use Hacker's Keyboard from the market (free!). Use Swype. Whatever.
4) Missing features. You give us a tablet with a hardware keyboard having a USB slot. What do people use USB for? No, it's not to plug in a keyboard. It's probably not to plug in a mouse either. External storage maybe, but less so in this cloud-ridden world where everything is on Dropbox.
Charging their phones is what they will use it for. Their iPhones, Androids and whatever. Why can't we do that with the tablet screen off ASUS? Is Apple smarter and they can code the Macbook Air circuitry better? Is this not something people want? I may not need 18h of tablet time - just a charge for my phone. Why should I need to keep the tablet on for that?
5) A 3G / 4G / whatever model, priced competitively. I know I can tether. I'd like to save myself the trouble, and my phone's battery since it is so damn difficult to charge with the built in dock anyway. It's not that hard, it will let carriers offer your tablet as a bundle, it will make you money. The iPad does it, Samsung does it. The only tablets that don't do it are Amazon's - and there are 3G Kindles out there.
5 things. Can you fix them?
Note that stuff like "my generation 1 iPad browses and reads email faster" and "X phone / tablet costing half as much is on 4.2.2 already" and "why should I need to void my warranty to install custom ROMs" are left out here. I don't particularly care about these.
I think the TF700T is an amazing feat of engineering. An incredible, sharp screen, a great form factor, a good looking set with the dock keyboard. But I'm sorry, I'm a guy who regularly forks out £600 on tablets or gadgets and my next tablet will be an iPad or a Samsung or a Kindle. It's just not worth it. I have no patience anymore, because I know that I can get my work done more efficiently with a 3rd party external keyboard and any other tablet. Heck, I can even get a phone, a keyboard and a HDMI screen for the money, and even run Ubuntu more stably.

1)startup time : i never shutdown my tab unless thete is no battery so i use the startup very few times and my lifespan is long enough (around 80 years) to wait for 1mn for a non-critical device to start
2)critical bugs : i don't have any. My tab nearly never crash (4 times since august). Maybe you have a broken tab (use your warranty to change it) or maybe you installed bad-quality applications and apply some customization and parameters not very clever...
3)non-critical bugs : i have some but they don't drive me insane and most of them are app related, not from the tab or asus. And anyway remember that nothing perfect exists and you also are doing mistakes in your own job...
4)missing features : you complain that there is a usb port ? It's one of the best reason to buy that tab ! You say the cloub is here but people don't alluse the cloud and on it the capacity is small (few Gb while my external disk has 1 Tb). And you can't put your photo to the cloud without a computer like that tab to connect your camera and extract your photos.
5)3G/4G : a 3G model exist TF700TG. 4G does not exist but it's normal as 4G was not ready when that tab was designed and put to stores. And at that time, there was NO tab with 4G (even the ipad, the 4G version arrived few months later)
PS : You post on every forum ? I call that spam and i know that will not answer to most of all the answers you will get in all these forums. Question : why don't you post that to world-wide newspapers, maybe the UN could decide of resolution against asus to ask them to meet your expectations ?
Please buy an ipad or whatever you prefer and don't bother us anymore with your poor man complains.

Wait did he just criticse the tablet for having a USB port. I use the USB for external storage...
Thanks for all your comments, some have been helpful.
I realise that I wasn't very clear on what I said about the USB port. I really like it. I think it should be there. I have adapters for my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 and my Galaxy Note, (MHL) which I mainly use to connect USB keyboards or thumb drives, or SD readers.
The rant is that there is no constant power to the USB. When the tablet screen locks, USB loses power: thus you can't charge a phone for 10 minutes in your backpack when walking. This is possible with a MacBook Air (that I end up carrying around for this purpose).
Startup time is important, at least to me. It is a major selling point for Mac OS X and Windows 8. People don't want to wait when their gadgets load, that's what I think. Computers do have sleep mode as well (and sadly, they wake up faster from sleep than the Transformer!!!).
I have an iPad as well, generation 1, jailbroken, loaded with 64GB of stuff. The OS must have crashed once or twice in years. Heck, I've even managed to crash a Kindle 3 once in 3 years. I can live with that. But the TF crashes at least once a week. I believe that not that many people experience this issue, so I will RMA mine and hope for the best.
I was not aware there is a 3G version. I have not seen it on sale anywhere. After a lot of googling I realised it's the TF700KL (and it's 4G LTE, which is nice).
Thanks again and sorry if this did not apply to you.
What are you doing to crash it. Even on stock 4.2 I dont remember it crashing?

You are carrying around a MacBook Air only to charge your phone?

The only time when startup time is important for me is after it crashed again. Otherwise I leave the tablet in standby mode, and it wakes up in a second whenever I need it.
I agree that all these issues exist and are annoying more or less, but you won't ever find a perfect device - all have their quirks. For me, the only real defect from your 5 points is that it really crashes from time to time.

It does work
Standalone batteries are less efficient (plus I forget to charge them)
I have found myself carrying an iPad to tether everything else to sometimes...

Yes, crashing is the worst. Writing something and losing it is not nice. Even if it's just a paragraph, it's a waste of time.
I have hopes for a perfect device! One that does what I need and is stable enough. I-devices work, most android phones work, Macs work, PCs work, kindles work - why should this be different?

My tablet only crashes when trying to download torrents. If I dont attempt to download torrents, then I dont have any crashes. Though the beta version of CROMIX I had a game crash once but that is expected on beta and hasnt crashed since.

My tab has crashed a very few times and each time it was while playing a game that was heavely using the GPU/CPU. Maybe your tab has a hardware defect but before sending it back with rma, try a factory reset wich will put back your tab to original configuration (it means you loose your data if you don't save them elsewhere).

A factory reset is good, but it can ALSO be a system file corrupted, in which I suggest you factory reset, reflash 4.2.1, then another factory reset.

While I do not agree with the OP totally but at least for some parts.
What I don't understand is that people keep defending ASUS as if they are not to blame.
Replies like "This is the worst post ever" I assume you are talking about your own post there.
The black lines are a complete no go for me, if you can't make a HD screen to work put in a low resolution screen, I would have skipped it and maybe be even happy with another tablet. Credits for apple's ipad for that, it is possible guys.
The keyboards menu button is only when your in an app, why is that? Why not in a launcher, where you use menu the most?
And then all these benchmarks, twice as fast as a htc one x, give me a break. My one x really blows away my TF700, it's about performance during the day, not just some numbers.
Installing a rom takes 3 times as long as on my one x...
Maybe it is because most asus fan people have an older smartphone with lower specs but owning a one x does not make things better for the infinity. ;0
The reason for me to keep it is because I bought it in NY for $600 that's about 430 euro incl. keyboard.
If I would have bought it here in Holland it would have been 600+ euro and I wouldn't accept this product as it is.

The TF700 out of the box is junk which is indeed only my personal preference. Many people have the stock device and are very happy with it. I also suggest people who compare a tablet with a keyboard to another, then type papers of a phone or a regular tablet without a keyboard and see how long it takes you. It is indeed ASUS fault for their bloated ROM, but if you use CromiX or Cyanogen Mod, It will blow any stock device out of the water. The black lines are no big deal, and dont occur when watching movies. I only see that when using Tapatalk or browsing, and it is rare. If you want a device out of the box go for a different device. The TF700 has gotten better with 4.2.1 as it fixed a lot typing application lag and such, but still dont compare to a un-bloated and tweaked ROM.

You are right about that, I have tweaked my One X. But on stock sense it's not far behind the tweaked Infinity.
And let's not forget the One X is even more expensive for me, so you get a lot of hardware for the money(at least what I paid for it)
The concept is brilliant, it's more that I'm slightly dissapointed cause if performance was wat is expected this device would have been the best ever, and I'm sure it could have been if asus at least would have done better I/O performance. But then again, will there ever be a perfect device?

The thing is, I don't think the speed should be an issue. I don't play that many games (certainly not power-hungry ones), I don't download torrents on the TF700T.
I have been flashing custom ROMs on devices since my HTC Prophet - and custom ROMs are usually less stable than the factory ROM (they are faster and with more eye-candy). Why this is not the case here I don't know.
I like the tablet to read papers and books (mainly PDF, some ePub), this is why I wanted the high resolution screen.
Screen tearing when reading is distracting and very disappointing.
I try to write papers on the TF700T. I write some forum posts. But the problems there are
1) Can't use a reference manager - there is no cite as you write, or at least I haven't found one
2) Random crashing or flushing the app from memory causes loss of data
3) When I want to write in Greek, I HAVE to use a non-ASUS keyboard app as the ASUS keyboard does not let you put accents in since 4.2.1
The touchscreen is great for reading stuff, underlining etc. But this tablet is problematic; may be just my device (I hope). It certainly feels like a beta product.
I wanted to reinstall the OS as well, however ASUS seems to have pulled the 10.6.1.14.4 from their download site (I get file not found for http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePAD/TF700T/TF700T_WW_epaduser_V1061144UpdateLauncher.zip )
I just wanted to say this:
There is a very noticeable issue with the Tegra 3's 4+1 processor setup that some things (recovery for example) do not handle too well and end up using that power saver core as the main core. For example, in TWRP, on my Droid RAZR the little slider to confirm something is very liquid, as is the loading bar's animation, but on the TF700T, it lags immensely.
That is the one issue I have with it. As far as Quadrant scores or benchmarks, mine have been all over the place even on CM10.1. It doesn't matter that on CROMI it can get a 10,000 if you can't switch between two apps in less than 10 seconds.

Hello!
I have one question that I could not find answer on internet. I have note 10.1 and have been using BT keyboard - Canyon, and it has been working flawless with a bit disconnect here and there. But recently I have bought BT Mouse - HP and it works just great. But when they are both connected at same time they both misbehave a lot. If I use mouse my keyboard just dc and it won't respond unless I hit few keys and sometimes keyboard lags/button stuck like "dddddddd...." untill my mouse dc. When my mouse dc keyboard is fine once again and this apply to vise versa but with mouse it is not responded well like move around for 2s late...
So now my question is if there is any program or script that will help with this situation? I know tablets aren't made to be used as PC but on college my battery last for like 9-10 hours while others with laptops cant get 3-5 hours full writting. I can even play games and my battery wont be below 30% when I get home. I have rooted ofc and I am using android revolution HD 9.0 since it is most polished. I dont wanna go to other android stock roms cuzz s-pen does not work well. I do not use pen often but heck, if I have it I want it to work perfect.
I hope someone had similiar situation and had it fixed.
Cheers
I have the same problem. I did not find a solution to bluetooth interference either... so I am thinking to move to usb based keyboard and mouse for better user experience.

Yeq but i want BT i was checking utube for some tips. All i have got is that some brands dont have problem. Most problem cause microsoft products with android on other hand ms mouse is better...so yeah hope someone can help.
Cheers
I have found a way to help it. I bought external keyboard helper for 2€ and it works amazing now. I have also tryed Null keyboard which is free and it basicly just hides ur onscreen eyboard from appearing. Guess this was the problem.
I hope someone will also fix their issue with this 2 apps. Cheers
It's those devices. I have several BT Keyboards and Mice and they work perfectly together. There's no app that can really do anything about stuttering mice or duplicate letters, as the issue is in the RF layer of the BT protocol.
