Hi to all,
Can any one help or give me advice, I have a Htc one X ( Black ) which I bought from wal-mart while I was on holiday last year, and had it unlocked to use on my network. 3 mobile ( I live in the uk which I forgot to say ), which I've noticed new firmware out, but since I don't live in the us, I can not update it.
Ive seen so many ways to root my phone and unlocking the bootloader, which ive tried and failed with access denied etc etc,
can anyone give me the right way to put a new firmware on the phone
android ver 4.0.3
Htc sense 4.0
Software Number 1.85.502.3 710RD
HTC SDK 4.11
Kernel Version
3.0.8-01155-gca24dle
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT
Build number
1.85.502.3_R2_CL63811 release-keys
cheers
Boot into the bootloader, and tell us what it says there. To get to bootloader, hold down the power button and the volume down button at the same time, your capacitive button lights will start to flash. When the screen turns off, release the power button but keep holding volume down button until it reaches the bootloader (white screen with a bunch of text).

I've clearly indicated here what root methods work for which firmware versions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
The other alternative, is to RUU to Jellybean (firmware 3.18) using the official RUU, which does not require root, bootloader unlock, etc.
https://support.htc.com/?title=en-us/070-HTC_One_X_ATT/Software_Updates/HTC_One_X%E2%84%A2_for_AT%26T_ROM_Update_|_3.07.2013
But be sure the phone is not SuperCID, since running the RUU with SuperCID + S-on will brick the phone.
Also, if you want to be rooted and bootloader unlocked (not just stock Jellybean) its recommended to do so on your current (older) 1.85 firmware. The 1.85 root method was relatively simple compared to the newer exploits, IMO.

Hey guys, so I am trying to root my phone and I am following djrbliss' method using X-Factor Root Exploit.
When I run the bat file it seems to work well - do the 2 restores - but after the second one it shows this:
1800KB/s (64527 bytes in 0.035s)
[-] Failed.
[+] Rebooting into bootloader mode
Press any key to continue -
...InfoCID: ROGER001
OKAY
If it's not 111111 exploit has failed.
So has it failed?
The latest drivers are installed, I have the android SDK installed, HTC Sync is not running.

Just go to htcdev.com and unlock. Rogers doesn't need supercid to unlock/root.

Awesome! So I did that, everything worked perfect except for! The LAST step :
On your phone you will now see the disclaimer. Please read this carefully as this action may void your warranty. Use the Volume buttons to highlight your choice, and the Power button to make your selection. If you select Yes, your phone will be reset to its’ factory default settings, and your bootloader will be unlocked. If you select No, your phone will reboot and no modifications will have been made.
This did NOT appear. What do? : /
Punch in the same command until it works?
At the top of the fastboot screen it shows ******TAMPERED******** and under *********UNLOCKED************
does that mean I am okay to just move on? Perhaps the prev. owner went through this?
Weird that it didn't show you the warning (or you pressed yes without paying attention)
But if it says Unlocked, then it is completed

Alright that being said, would you be able to point me in the right direction as to what I should be doing next?
Is my phone Rooted?
Possibly. Do you have the superuser app installed?
If not install twrp recovery and flash the superuser zip

I bought a One S for my Mom on eBay to replace her water-damaged S2 - the listing said factory sealed, unlocked, brand new.
Dropped Bell Canada SIM card in, worked well for 2 months.
After a Bell OTA update, phone will not maintain a signal.
Bell looked up IMEI, said the phone belonged to Fido and was unlocked and activated by Rogers.
Ran Root Checker to see if it was rooted - sure enough, it had been rooted and I have the "this device does not have proper root access".
So I've been forced to try and figure this out, and I'd like to restore the phone to stock - I've read cbetso's great "Restore to Stock" post and looked through the AIO toolkit, but I don't know which "RUU to run". Fido? Rogers? Bell? Do I even need it? Everyone's issue seems very personal and specific to their carrier / etc. and I'd like to restore it.
Thanks.

Telling by the software version it runs the Fido software. You would have to run a Fido RUU, but if you want to change it to unbranded HTC software you can change CID to HTC__001 and then run an unbranded RUU such as 2.31.401.5 (latest, Android 4.0.4 RUU)

Thanks again. I have an unlock code for the device; my hope was to restore it back to the way it came from Fido and SIM unlock it for use with another carrier. I suppose I'll try the step-by-step process listed in the "restore" post I mentioned. After trying to figure this out for the past week, I truly appreciate the work of developers here in the forum.
So I've located an RUU for Rogers (which covers Fido in Canada, apparently) but it's for a 1.70 build. The one currently on the device, I believe is higher than that. I'd like to try the All in One Toolkit to bring the phone back to stock and then unlock it for use with Bell or Telus. If I run the Toolkit, and use cbetso's instructions from the "How to Return to Stock" post (after adding the stock recovery to the folder) - can I run the 1.70 Rogers RUU without issues? Thanks for the advice!

If you are on a higher software version than the RUU, unfortunately it's not possible unless you downgrade your HBOOT which is risky for people who are new to the whole unlock/root thing. If the software version is the same or less, go ahead.

Thanks. I'm not new, I'm COMPLETELY new. Maybe I'll have to wait until the higher version come out for Rogers. Right now I have a virtually unusable phone, and although I don't know what I'm doing, I'd still like to try and get it back to stock. Can you point me in the direction of a good downgrade tutorial? I've looked around a bit but haven't seen anything I trust. Much appreciated.
Hi everyone, i recently got my wife the At&T version of the One X and i live in Bahrain, ( i personally have the tegra3 version), the question is she still has the stock 4.0.4 with sense 4.0 and the phone is branded with at&t stuff, is there anyway to flash one of the latest sense 5 updates which will not brick the device? or brick the radio function?
Our GSM Frequencies are: GSM 900, GSM 1800 UMTS 2100
our 4G frequencies are: LTE 1800
i know the device is not 4G compatible here but i need the 3G to work... any help needed
It doesn't matter which ROM you're on, the capabilities of the radio hardware doesn't change. You won't be able to download updates via the Settings menu because you're outside the US. You can download the OTA updates and manually flash them though.

ah thanks for the quick response, can you point me to the threads or to the latest version?
You'll need to take the OTA's in order, you can find all the information here.
Sent from my Evita
those are Sense 4.5 ROMs right? isent there an update with sense 5 out for the one xl?
There is no RUU for Sense 5, it's an OTA, but at&t haven't released it yet so the closest you'll get is Sense 4+ and Android 4.1 (until at&t release the update).
If you don't want to wait you could unlock/root and then flash a Sense 5 ROM of your choosing.
Sent from my Evita
ah ok thanks, i will wait for the official one from at&t since my wife doesn't need root..one last thing.
can i use this?
I'm not sure, I've never heard of a 3.07 update. I'd suggest sticking with the at&t 3.18 RUU on the page I linked to.
Sent from my Evita
yes its actually the 3.18 update, the 3.07 is the date it was released...
RUU_EVITA_UL_JB_45_S_Cingular_US_3.18.502.6_Radio_0.24p.32.09.06_10.130.32.34_release_signed_With_Partial.exe
so i just download that, get htc sync manager and im good? no need for custo recovery or other stuff?
Ahh, ok that makes sense now. You'll need to download HTC Sync Manager and that should be it.
We should probably double check your bootloader details first though to be safe. Turn the phone off completely, once it's powered off hold the volume down button then hold the power button (so you're holding them together). After about three seconds let go of the power button but keep holding volume down until you reach the bootloader (white screen with text). Please post the first five lines of text you see on the screen.

PS i don't think ota availability is region locked.
It is an idea that has been said many times before but from what I have seen the fota server does not block based on your current location or the mobile network you are currently connected to. Those details are sent but I have never seen it block anything you put in those fields.
Fota server does some simple imei checks to release updates in batches and to blacklist certain devices.
It checks model which comes from the build.prop of the rom and must be the correct HTC one x or HTC one xl.
It checks "firmware version" which we would typically call the HTC ROM version.
Most new updates check Cid which must be valid for that ota, eg carrier Cid of supercid.
That's about it.
Details about the radio, the current time and a bunch of other things are sent but do not determine if your phone will get the ota.

We need to see your bootloader details. If your friend has a One X, and its not from US or Canada, its a completely different phone. AT&T One X is actually known as the One XL elsewhere (dual core LTE version, code name EVITA). Aside from the US/Canada versions, every other phone branded as the One X is actually the quad core non-LTE version, code name ENDEAVORU.
EVITA and ENDEAVORU are completely different chipsets, and therefore different root methods, recovery ROMs, etc. So make sure you keep it straight and get it right.
For the EVITA, simply look up your firmware version and find the corresponding root, bootloader unlock, etc. on my Index thread:

I purchased my phone from kijiji, it was an unlocked Rogers phone, I rooted it, changed the rom to Viper XL 4.2.0 and also on TWRP 2.6.3. And I've also unlocked the boot loader from htcdev.com
I have somehow been able to change my rom and my recovery, but still S-ON?
I'm having issues with my phone rebooting, radio shutting off and the comments i've read state that I need to change my radio and/or my kernel, but i'm still s-on. I've read that I shouldn't have been able to get this far.
Last time I tried to change my kernel I got boot loops and had to re flash my rom.
Now I'm stopping and seeking help on what I should do.
Advice is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Of course you can change ROM and recovery while s-on, you have an unlocked bootloader. S-off is completely different from having an unlocked bootloader. An unlocked bootloader means you can install a custom recovery and therefore custom ROMs. S-off disables security checks, for people with hboot 1.14 this means no longer having to flash a boot.img via fastboot. It also means you can flash radios, and change your hboot. It also removes the risk of bricking your phone while running a jb RUU with SuperCID. To be honest I'm surprised you made it this far, not because you're s-on, but because you seem to lack a basic understanding of modifying your device.
If you want to continue using Viper (or any Sense 5 ROM) you need to get s-off so you can upgrade to the 2.15 firmware package.

S-off isn't needed for installing custom ROMs. All you need is bootloader unlock. Its just needed if you want to do other things (like timmaaa mentioned) such as modify hboot or flash a different radio.
If you were having trouble with the Beastmode Kernel, I think some folks had to install Beastmode 2.0, then 3.5. But you can look through the Beastmode thread for details on solving the bootloop, as you are not the only one, by any means.
Of course, s-off by the Facepalm method (very easy to accomplish) then flashing the 2.15 firmware is the other solution for random reboots.
I have an HTC Sensation XE, which I have had for a few years now. It has developed a fault that, it will boot to the bootloader when I hold in the power and the volume - buttons, I am able to connect it to fastboot usb, but the phone wont boot into android.
The phone is running the stock ICS OTA update from HTC and the bootloader is locked and is S-ON, HBOOT is version 1.29 and I cannot unlock the bootloader through the HTCDEV website, since the unlock token wont work, I believe this is because the motherboard was changed in a warranty repair just over a year ago.
Any advice would be great
