I have an HTC Sensation XE, which I have had for a few years now. It has developed a fault that, it will boot to the bootloader when I hold in the power and the volume - buttons, I am able to connect it to fastboot usb, but the phone wont boot into android.
The phone is running the stock ICS OTA update from HTC and the bootloader is locked and is S-ON, HBOOT is version 1.29 and I cannot unlock the bootloader through the HTCDEV website, since the unlock token wont work, I believe this is because the motherboard was changed in a warranty repair just over a year ago.
Any advice would be great

Thanks for the reply, I have tried a few RUUs and have had no luck, so I have posted a question in the link you provided

Hello,
I have maybe a stupid newb question. I've been searching around for an answer but with no luck.
My problem is as follow:
I've been using HTC Sensation for half a year now, with custom roms / rooted / SuperCID. So I'm not new to flashing stuff.
Somehow I managed to brick my device before (due to stupid flashing decisions). So I flashed a random EU RUU and send my phone for repairs (via insurance services). They "repaired" my phone. I'm not sure if I got a new one or they really repaired it? (IMEI changed but S/N is still the same)
Today I got my HTC Sensation back. I was very happy and started to check the phone. It appears the bootloader is locked and S-ON. (CID back to T-MO003)
So I tried to S-OFF using revolutionary.io , to bad without luck...
I started searching what might be the problem read something about downgrading and revolutionary works... got a bit confused about all the different posts around.
What is the correct way to get S-OFF, custom recovery, and so on... back on my phone?
Bootloader info:
Locked
S-ON
HBOOT 1.18.0000

Thanks for your time!
Hoping for a fix,
Opletium
?????
how much did you end up paying for repairs
Nothing haha, I was suprised about that!
normally my insurance company bills 30 euro as "own risk".
I've read the agreements of the insurance and saw that damage caused to the phone by falling on the ground was covered. My phone had some visable damage on the egdes.
So I told the insurance that i dropped my phone. And because it stopped working i tried to reinstall the sofware to factory defaults.
What I did is: I flashed a RUU and that caused the brick, because the touch panel stopped working.
They "fell" for it.. kinda
ok tried to follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21922297#post21922297
problem, cant get my bootloader unlocked. HTCdev's unlock fails.
Error i get:
C:\bootloader_unlock>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.140s]
writing 'unlocktoken'...
FAILED (remote: unlock token check failed)
finished. total time: 0.156s
File is in place, tried it multiple times and tried multiple tokens.. no clue on this!
Anyone that can help me to unlock and S-Off my device?
Did you try Revolutionary?
yes, I tried, but keeps failing aswel..
kinda start hating TMO for branding all their phones
This is the output of revolutionary

is USB Debugging activated?
also have you got the drivers from HTC sync installed, but sync uninstalled, together with any other software that might attempt to sync with the phone?
USB debugging tried both enabled and disabled.
HTC drivers version 3.0.0.007 installed.
no other software on my laptop or PC that use my phone.
The thing that confuses me is that after repairs my IMEI number changed but my S/N stayed the same.
Guess they only replaced some hardware and not the total phone..
if that is the case then we should be aware that this HTC Sensation was S-OFF / rooted before.
When my touchpanel stopped working I flashed a RUU and locked bootloader and put the phone back to S-ON. I believe that I was on a lower version HBOOT while I send the phone back (before the phone went for repairs).
Try this
or try unlocking at HTC.

my phone is bootlooping..
Ok did a factory reset via bootloader, now my phone works again.
but still no S-OFF..
The problem most likely is that you entered your details incorrectly at the HTC Dev site for unlocking your bootloader.
I don't think it checks the serial number to be genuine, I think as long as it follows a certain format it's accepted, so I would certainly check what you entered and try re-downloading the file from the Dev site. It's clearly NOT a driver issue, as CMD wouldn't even push the file to the phone if it was.
Hope this helps

Doubt this will work for them, as Revolutionary won't work without an Unlocked Bootloader and this is where they are getting stuck.
Just had contact with HTC themself to ask why the htcdev.com method is not working for me.
They explained that T-Mobile NL put their software on my phone while I send it for repairs. they put their bootloader on my phone, first i was like WTF but then he started mumbling about update that htcdev-tool does not support yet.. after some more " doubt-talk". He asked some software versions and made a case he would put trough to the technical support.
Guess that explains the HTCDev problem?????
/edit: I have tried over 15 times on the htcdev.com method
if I understand jaaystott correctly then first you need to have an unlocked bootloader in order to use revolutionary to S-OFF??
Any otherway to unlock the bootloader, because this htc method will take some time..

never tried it this way but I cant imagine that it would work since the bootloader is still locked.
Flash some other offical RUU, that should do it

Taco root will give revolutionary access to files he cannot modify before. In all cases he can try if it doesn't work he will have to unlock first with htcdev then redo the whole operation.

Yes thats correct. Until the Bootloader is Unlocked nothing can be installed other than apps from the Market
As for the problem, I highly doubt that it's T-Mobile's Bootloader, I mean surely loads of other people on OTA's would have had this issue.. surely somewhere someone has reverted to stock and then realized that this is the problem?
I think it's likely the change of IMEI might have done it, could be the wrong IMEI associated with that Serial Number and so it won't flash.
OK, so I am learning android (using HD2 now) and from what I understand when you use the htc boot loader unlocker you end up with a "tampered" warning somewhere that will let htc or your carrier know that you have unlocked your bootloader.
Does having s-off help you to be able to trick the phone from knowing that you have been into it if you flash it back to stock?
I am just worried about keeping insurance on the phone if once I unlock or s-off they will no longer cover it.

I think that particular device will say, tampered. Soff is like security off you can fash roms and do many things with soff but no it does not trick the device into thinking its not tampered. With my device I can s on return to stock but I'm not sure about yours.
It might have tampered marked on it.

It doesn't set a "tampered" flag. The stock bootloader has a caption at the top of *locked*. When you use htcdev to unlock the bootloader it will change that caption to *unlocked* and it cannot be undone.
S-off, on the other hand, does not notify HTC or your carrier of what you have done. It is also reversible if you really need to set things back to full stock.

When you use HTC Dev to unlock your bootloader it does show Unlocked on the Hboot screen. But if you re lock the bootloader it displays re locked on the Hboot screen and not locked as it is originally. S-off can be reversed with out any trace of it being S-off. And now that the unbricking project has come up with a way to recover your de ice if going S-on soft bricks your device it is way less dangerous now.
At realsis, think about S-off as being like HSPL for the HD2.
I believe someone has figured out what was being set differently, and you can in fact return to "locked"

Go on........
Don't know if this works for the Sensation, but if someone is trying to go back to locked hboot, give it a try.
Go back to totally stock. Flash a RUU, preferably GB so that you have an earlier hboot that can be easily S-OFFed again.
fastboot oem write secureflag 3
Reboot and you should be S-ON again. AGAIN, MAKE SURE YOU ARE TOTALLY STOCK WITH A SHIP HBOOT OR YOU WILL BRICK.
Use revolutionary to S-OFF again. Hopefully, you will be locked at this point.
If not, repeat, but use JuopunutBear to S-OFF.
If you're still unlocked, this method doesn't work on the Sensation.
hello everyone i just recieved an htc sensation as an insurance phone since my g2x stopped working . i loved that phone and it was super fast but this is all t-mobile said they could give me. Anyways i have it and now i wanna flash different roms lol.
So i went through the process of getting the code from htcdev.com and unlocking the bootloader. But now when i try and root it from the "HTC All in One Rooting Tool Kit" using the one_x program, it doesnt work. It lets me reboot into recovery but then when i click on the root button and press enter in cmd box all it says is device not found or something like that. So my question is, is when its in bootloader can the computer still recognize the phone from the usb cord or is there something else i should do first?
think i have the same problem
hey, just got my brand new htc today, i have been able to unlock my bootloader via htcdev, all went well....but s-on my hboot is 1.27.0000 which is the issue!!!
from what i have found currently revolutionary method for s-off isnt currently supported.....
i have ICS installed 4.0.3, dam you carphonewarehouse lol
still searching and looking, does anyway have any further info, how to s-off,ROOT, or install a custom rom? or do i just have ti wait???
I have read various guides, and eventually taken the plunge to downgrade my bootloader.
htcDev Unlock
Goldcard
Install oldest RUU
S-OFF using revolutionary
Flash CWM recovery
Backup Stock 2.33 ROM with Sense
Install CM9
Feeling quite pleased with myself, even though you guys have really done all the hard work, I've just followed the steps!
What I can't find is this;
If I go back to the Stock ROM and updates are offered OTA, if I accept, will this, not only bring me back to 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0, but also change my bootloader back to 2.00.0002 Locked and S-ON ?
Unfortunately it will be *RELOCKED* and S-ON

What he said. If you wanted to remain "locked" and not "relocked" - you should have avoided unlocking the bootloader, and should have used temp-root for misc_version.
Ok, what are the inplications of being 'RE-LOCKED'
Like CM9, but get the feeling development stalled, also certain apps won't work Nat West being one, though I suspect that is to do with their development.
Thinking about going back to Stock. If I do this via OTA, my bootloader will be upgraded back to 2.00.0002, 'RE-LOCKED' and S-ON, then wait for official OTA upgrade to ICS, which seems not to be happening as per HTC announcements. Even then I may have issues with apps that haven't been coded to deal with it.
If I am 'RE-LOCKED' can I not use htcDev again, or am I stuck with the Official bootloader etc and unable to load other ROMS, or can I just repeat the processes I have been through already?
I have also been reading about unlocking with an XTC Clip, where would I get this done, Is this a better solution? etc etc..
No issues with RELOCKED except that your warranty is gone.
If you have no warranty you can go for XTC Clip, since permanent S-OFF will give you more freedom in terms of modifications. Personally I consider flashing boot.img separately each time as annoying.
As per the unlock again, it should be possible, but I am not sure if this can be done by a fastboot command or the unlock token has to be flashed again.
Sent from my HTC Desire S
When I unlocked mine I remember reading somewhere that the token would need to be used again if the phone was re locked. So I kept it just in case

Wow...very happy to hear that...but i have some doubts...
1. Running RUU will take take of all the reboots or i manually have to do that?? I couldn't exactly understand your explanation above..
2. Before running RUU, how to enter hboot and check weather is tampered or not ? (just to be on safe side)
3. Am i supposed to keep backup of my existing rom? also, running RUU will delete all the data in my phone??
Finally,
4. After updation will my phone be locked or unlocked??
kindly spare some time and reply for above in detail....many thanks for your patience and time...

Carrier unlock and bootloader unlock are two different things. You can run the software update just fine.
What does Tampered mean?
Hi ,
Still a little confused ( sorry, total newbie)
I'm using a at&t Htc one x in India. When i load it in HBoot it shows:
*Tampered*
*Locked*
What does the tampered mean? can i still run the RUU?
on the HTC site, i could find only a CRC file... can i install the Asia version or should i install the Usa version
Pl let me know.
Thanks!

If it says tampered that means it was unlocked at some time and was probably supercid.
You can try using fastboot to determine the CID, it may be changed back CWS__001 or could still be 11111111
You would most likely brick if you try to ruu to 3.18
You would have to S-OFF first which is somewhat advanced and creates a big security hole if you don't know what you're doing.
