[Q]Thinking of buying this phone ..need help - HTC Pico (Explorer)

Hey Guys ...
I am thinking of buying this phone(pico) and really need some suggestions
I browsed through the dev sections and this phone's got some amazing roms ...
moreover cm 9,10 is stable 10.1 almost ...this phone seems to be a pretty good choice
I would like to ask if there are any drawbacks of this phone ....
(just critisize it like hell)
Thanks !!

Firstly, check this out > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026553&highlight=thinking+buying
Second, there are better definetly better phones than this one(tipo is the first that comes to my mind). Ram is 512, cpu is only 600, screen is smal, well basicaly it's a low end phone.

SGSII vs. Nexus S?...

I'm currently using SGSII-M250K(Korean galaxy s2), andI was using Verizon Fascinate with CM7 before.
To be honest, I can't really define which is better between my Fascinate and SGSII...Sure the SGSII has better hardware, but with the stabilization of XDA roms on the Fascinate evens it out. Since I bought a Korean SGSII which XDA doesn't care for, there's hardly any development going on in Korean communities, while Nexus S is in the XDA game as a reference phone regardless of which carrier I use.
Therefore I am on the verge of returning my SGSII and buying a Nexus S, in trade of the hardware specs for far better development environment and stabilization.
So what do you think?

I think you should keep the sgs2. I have both phones. The nexus s running latest cm7 taichi kang and sgs2 rooted with oc kernel. At first I was like you. Thinking this was the worst purchase I could had possibly made due to the lack of development. But when you use the two phone next to each other you soon start to realise how much more superior the s2 is due to its dual core processor. There isn't much development threads as this forum although there are worthy ones in the other. I tried cm7 but decided to just stay stock as the standard rom is just that good and stable. I use it with go launcher cause I'm not a fan of touchwiz.
The worst thing about the s2 section is that it's all over the place. Such as cm7 nightlys are in the q&a section. It does take time getting use to but you learn to love it.

i don't have i9100 , but just stupid question ...
when you say dual-core CPU , and also i9100 has bigger screen ...
do not this effect on battery life ?
i saw i9100's battery only has 1650 mAh , and Nexus's has 1500 mAh.......

Personally my SGSII lasts longer than my Verizon Fascinate. I use overclock/undervolted at 200-1400, And 100% brightness everyday. For a moderate use, it holds up for 12 hours minimum. I never had to use my second battery although I carry it all the time just in case.

I had the SGS2 for about 2 months, and now I have a Nexus S. I am MUCH happier with the Nexus. Knowing that it'll be among the first phones to get ICS is pretty much a very strong point. I liked the sgs2's screen but I found it too flashy and DAMN did it get the battery down. Just having the screen on used up battery like you wouldn't believe.
I'm MUCH more in love with the Nexus' curved screen than with the sgs2's huge one. I never regretted selling my galaxy, but when the time comes to sell my nexus, I'll miss it.
I recently got the Nexus S. Previously had the HTC Desire and the HTC HD2. The moment i used the Nexus S i could notice a jump in speed. Very smooth and alot of development everywhere. But the GS2 has a dual core processor and all. The choice is really up to you. GS2 for more speed and better hardware or the Nexus S for more development. I would recommend you keep the GS2 though. The better hardware would be very useful.

beside , i9100 is very popular , Samsung will definitely have it update to ICS

dual-core makes phone running first , that's for sure
but , for the most normal users , single core CPU is more than enough to handle most of their applications and functions ...
personal point of view , at this time , using dual-core is kinda ...hm...waste energy ...
it's just ... makes me feel ...
single core = car with 150 km/h max speed
dual core = car with 300 km/h max speed
but high-way only allows you to run at 100 km/h ... so ... single or dual , doesn't make much different
...
well , of course , when i have dual-core device , i may gonna take back what i said , but for the moment ...

It is true, without a doubt. Samsung's crap bog the SGS2 down immensely, whereas with the Nexus you get pure preformance. The system is much, much more responsive on the Nexus, simple as that.

I said specifically *among* the first phones to get ICS. It will definitely be the first phone already on the market to get ICS. SGS2 will get ICS only when Samsung port their bloatware to ICS, which should be around March or so, by which time the SGS3 should be making an appearence as a rumour. If you want to run ICS within this month, the Nexus S is pretty much your only choice unless you want to spend 3x the cash on the Galaxy Nexus. The Nexus phones are pretty much as cutting edge as it gets, software-wise, and that will remain so in the foreseeable future. For me, that's much more important than a couple more hundred MHz that most likely I won't really find any use for.
I really liked the SGS2, but FOR ME, the Nexus, with its inferior hardware, is a better phone. Your opinion may differ.

[Q] O.C.

Hi,
I'm sorry if I'm posting it on the wrong part of the forum, not sure if it's a General question or a Develop one.
I am still thinking if I want to buy the HTC One X or wait for the SGS3...all bring me wish the One X but the cpu.
SGS3 cpu tests are saying that SGS3 is more or less 20% faster then the HOX international version so I was wondering if maybe the cpu of HOX is more overclockable than that of the SGS3 or if anyway there is a way to bring the final performance of the 2 phone at a more or less the same level.
I would like an overall opinion so, for example, if the HOX is overclockable to increase the performance of a 20% BUT the SGS3 will be overclockable the same increasing the performance of a 20% too there will be anyway a lack of 20%
Shall I have some technical opinion on it (without creating fun boy flame or just "is more fashion" and so on...would like to speak only about the cpu)
Thanks
Max
Well take a look at the Transformer Prime ( tegra3 device )
Yep overclock till 1700 1800 Mhz is possible.
So to be sort and not so much technical Yes it can be done
Even if the one x can be overclocked to make up for the performance difference to a stock SGS3 it would require a higher voltage, which in return kills battery life even quicker. That, plus the difference in battery capacity in favor of the SGS3 =not a good idea.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
You got Quad Core with 1.5Ghz why on earth you want to overclock again. You have enough speed to run almost anything on One X. SGS 3 chipset is different so you might see different in performance. There Meizu MX which beats SGS 3 in benchmarks. So this will never stop. New device will keep on coming with better speed, better power management. You can't keep up with it.
With a custom kernel you can overclock untill 999999999999999999

This goes in the question and answers section also, what does this have to do with developing, also why the heck would you want to overclock something that has more power than any other phone on the market right now?
You marked your post with a Q meaning it´s going to Q&A

To get a bigger (e-)penis ofc. But yeah, this should've been in Q&A. And yes, OC isn't really needed, but instead underclock and undervolt is something some of us want. And maybe turn of one or two of the cores, but maybe this doesn't save that much power?

Let's hope the phone gods grant us more battery life after underclocking/undervolting/disabling a core. And give us smooth performance while doing so

Well of course that ther ewill be always something more powerfull but SGS3 is almost real so...for more or less the same price why choose a less powerful device...even if you don't really need that power (but I quite doubt about it)
First of all, is your One X going to be an ATT phone? If so, the it has a dual core and not a quad...the quad core is the international version as it is not compatible with the LTE radio...in actuality, the Qualcomm Arm 7, s4 processor will usually out perform the quad core processor in the One XL...more does not mean faster...it would be rare to use all 4 processors at same time anyway...I plan to underfloor mine as 1.2 or so is fast enough without any lags on apps...and the HTC display is, by far, better than Samsung's super AMOLED display..sure it has high contrast but it's not as good...HTC also has beats audio and Samsung does not, unless HTC decides to license it to them, since HTC bought beats audio (51%) anyway...plus HTC is the original creator of android, not google...the first android was an HTC G1...Samsung should stick to TVs, where they do pretty well...but again, I am partial to HTC...and if u do get the galaxy 3, u will not be able to notice difference in speed unless u run benchmark tests, which are irrelevant in real world use of a phone...but it's personal preference...

Sadly I'm from UK so, in case, the HOX will be international Quadcore (AT&T seems faster from the test I saw).
Actually from some video I saw on youtube the interface of HOX seems to be laggy sometimes (like it takes time to scroll the homescreen and so on) and so I thought that a faster CPU would help.
I would like to bring to your attention this test http://www.mobileblog.it/post/20433...batte-tutta-la-concorrenza-nei-test-benchmark (sadly the page is in italian but the photo of the test are in english) and HOX int is ALWAYS so far away from GS3
I also eared that the cpu of GS3 has less nm (so it's smaller) and so, in theory, will be even more overcloackable.
Can you confirm this for me please?
Unless you're planning on using your phone to find the 500 billionth decimal of pi, or to find a cure for cancer, I think you're reading into it far too much.
Perhaps it IS a much faster phone in benchmarks, but that gives you no real idea in real world use. Try out a One X in a shop or something. Honestly, it's overkill power, I've never had a single lag on it, and I too was looking for the most powerful thing I could find.
Lets face it, a week after you get the most powerful phone, another one twice as good came out (My friend bought the SGS not long before I got my HOX and it was amazing when it came out), and at the end of the day, what are you -really- using your phone for that demands such power?

Should I buy the ONE S?

Hello people I am an owner of HTC Desire S and time has come to retire my phone and upgrade.
I am seriously considering getting the ONE S so I have a couple of question that you proud owners of it can probably answer.
1.Should I buy it even if I cant get the version with the S4 chip?
2.What are the major problems you have with the device?
Thanks in advance for you help
I just got my One S like about a week ago and I love the phone.
I have the S4 version and have not tested the S3 version. I would say even the S3 version, it should definitely be faster than the Desire S. While S3 is a little bit old, It maybe hard to tell unless you are extreme power user. I think in day to day use like browser, main interface, etc. the performance should not be much difference. I used to have rezound with the S3 chip and I cannot tell much difference. If you got one of the custom rom, then you would sure get hte best performance.
There is no major problem as far as I can tell. The form factor is really nice, so slim, yep hard to image after seeing so many htc phones are so bulky.
Don't get it if you can't get the s4 IMO. There are barely any devs for s3. You are paying the same price as s4 owner and getting an inferior product. I know s3 is fast but its still not an s4. If you are not planing on rooting your phone and running custom ROMs on it,then I think its OK to get s3.

You should definitely get the s4 model it is faster and you will notice the difference if you go hard on the processor.
Also as the lad said, there aren't that many devs for the s3 model. Meaning that you might not get some of the roms/tweaks availiable for the s4 version.

As another person looking at getting this One S, how can I tell if it has the S4 when I'm in the T-mobile store with it in my hand? What other useful information can you more experienced One S users provide to help me make the best phone choice?
I have read some reviews stating there is a problem with maintaining signal or the phones drains the battery rapidly. What say you?

Speaking as someone who's just come directly from the Desire S I think you'll love it. The screen is so much brighter than the DS, bigger than the DS and it's so fast. The camera is fantastic in out door conditions especially. Some of the photos it takes you would honestly think were taken with a 12mp dedicated camera instead of a phone! Battery life is very good for a dual core phone as well. Lasts me on medium use about 1day 14 hours and 2days if I barely use it. My biggest problem with the device would be the pentile arrangement on the screen. You can see the pixels and the screen is very blueish. That being said after a couple weeks of using it you don't notice that at all and the screen becomes fantastic it's because your coming from a 3.7 inch s-lcd phone to with a very high resolution to a 4.3 inch super amoled display with a fairly good resolution so it takes a while to get used to. Go for it though, you won't be disappointed.

One S is better.
1. You won't need to do a battery pull. Ever.
2. Rooting is easy, look at some tutorials in the developer section (DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS IN THAT SECTION!! EVER!)
3. Menu button in built into the software. If you root you can remap any keyto be the menu button.
Hope I helped.

Eh?
It is still far better than a desire S even with the S3/adreno 220 and better than the XE (apart from storage options and you have removable batteries with them), excluding the GPU/CPU:
- far better camera overall, absolutely no contest between them
- way better build/perceived quality and IMO design/looks (subjective this)
- better screen overall (although some might prefer LCD on the XE and DS)
- battery life will still be better anyway
- more RAM
- much better audio
- newer device and will be getting jelly bean officially before the end of the year
- also another wee plus is that you will get more money when you sell the one S rather than the desire S and XE in a few months time or a year in order to fund for a new phone
Only reason to get the DS or XE is for a removable battery and SD slot and perhaps a better developing community (no idea what it is like for them)
Buy it, you won't regret it

Hey man you don't need to worry about the battery. It's fairly simple to root you just need to unlock your boatloader with HTC dev and its easy from there. ►► I hate ANDROID x(

from last 10years i was using Nokia (3230, 5130, 2700, 5230 etc) This year i bought Micromax A100 and this is my 1st android device. After using 10 days i felt ANDROID sucks. Its laggy after installing 30-40 apps, RAM always show 50-90mb free. After minimizing opera min, dolphin browser and switching back to that app makes reload page again.
I think ANDROID is made for those high end cellphone which have higher hardware configuration i.e: 2GB RAM, 1GB DUAL CORE proccy etc.
i was very happy with old Nokia 5230

Not quite sure who sold you on the Micromax A100 but you picked a horrible device for a starter Android experience. The reviews are horrible and if you are coming from a cooked down Nokia environment, then you will be disappointed with a device like this.
I do not know your region or carrier but there are much better devices running Android from Samsung and others that would be around the same you paid for the Micromax A100... ranging from free to $99.

Dude, you can't just buy some low end device and then complain about its lags. Cheap devices are not meant for smoothness. They are meant for general use. And I can still bet that this Android micromax is faster than your Nokia 5230

He totally said he was a decade long Nokia user... no iPhails mentioned.
But i must agree... this forum was never for what you hate... it is for questions, news and things you NEED/WANT.
you bought one of the WORST seriusly i mean it WORST mobile phone.
it has android ICS with Adreno 200. Ics is not meant for such phones. Dont complain for lag when you buy such a bad phone.
You could buy a budget device like xperia live with walkman it cost about the same. (maybe lower)
Just search before you buy.
As a lot of other people have stated in the thread, the Micromax A100 is a pretty terrible device that's not even optimized for the android version that it runs. The gift and curse of affordable android is that 99 times out of 100 it won't be a super duper fantastic experience like say... getting an iphone would, but the good part about android is that there are affordable devices that do most of the same things. Not all, like higher end games and all that jazz, but most. If you want to have an amazing experience with a phone in general, you're looking at spending at least 400 smackers on a device with all the right specs running the latest possible android version.

Download a root checker app? I know some are really easy to root, but I wouldn't trust something of I didn't understand what it was doing in the fist place.
I don't really know what you can do to make your phone "faster". Maybe there are custom ROMs for it that could help a bit, removing bloat, et cetera - but they are things that will make small differences, not huge ones.
You can't add more RAM, so re-draws and such are inevitable unless bloatware is taking up a huge, huge part of that.
And, yeah, an OS and the hardware are hugely connected. You could put Windows 7 on an underpowered machine and watch it lag and freeze and struggle - but can you really judge it from that?

As a fellow Nokia lover, try the 820 or 920. Beats any prior Nokia device and walks all over android.
Since you have rooted already , uninstall any micromax bloatware that your phone might have been shipped with. Use opera mini instead of dolphin browser. Get rid of most of the widgets that you seldom use. I used Samsung Galaxy 5 for a year on gingerbread , I know what you are talking about.

My phone has worst specs than yours and it doesn't lag. Mostly its the ROM its running and any stock ROM on any phone is slow and laggy so just root it and put on a new vanilla custom ROM on it and problem solved. I did and my phone is running alot smother and better.
learn, read, find forums here or search for forums on google regarding the handset that you are using and try to make it into the smartphone to give you a better experience...that is the fun about android my friend....and also if you are not happy with your current phone why not just trade it for something else..many entry level android handsets out there that are realy good and will give you a good android experience...need any help feel free to hit me with a PM...and guys mind your language here..we all here to respect other members and still help others who have difficulty no matter how they feel about android

YOu can not make gold out of crap. Go and get yourself a Galaxy 3 and you will love Android.
Your phone is crap
You chose one of the worst phones available. Your phone is the equivalent of a NES console where a galaxy note is the equivalent of a ps3. (not that the nes isnt epic its just old hardware,..) We have games that can rival consoles in terms of graphics and game play now and true 1080p hd resolutions backed up by quad cores and 2gb ram etc. Your phone sucks plain and simple not android. My G Note flys. Its as fast as my computer and normally have cmore than 400mb ram free our of the 1GB lol

I hate my ace 2.
When I turned it on i was shocked, because it work slower than galaxy gio (android 2.3.6, 600mhz armv6 252mb ram).
A lot of games doesn't work and every 3d game lags and, battery live is ~ 1day (normal use), audio jack work only with samsung headphones, JB runs like sh"t after 2 days of using (reboots, crashes and menu lags).
Samsung never again. They just made s**tty phone.

1st: Trust me this phone doesn't lag, especially compared to gio(WHAAA?) lawl
2nd: If you just go to our gaming thread you will see what and how many games dun work or lag..
3rd: Yeah our battery is not the biggest but damn..it's a 170 euro phone go get yourself a 3650mAh battery (might look a little bulky but will surely last longer) also you could buy a couple of spare same 1700mAh batteries and carry them with ya?
4th: The is no yet official jelly bean, now yeah you will tell me that MC8 is branded and shyt..yeah still I highly doubt that this is in any way a final firmware (This means that bugs are STILL expected)
5th and last: I won't lie to you samsung has very bad support for their mid-range devices and even on higher end ones so yeah, if you are an update maniac get yourself a nice nexus phone which is on a ridiculously low price right now on amazon.

What do you want us to do!? This website is for android development, not for complaining. If you hate the Ace 2 soo much then fuc* off from this forum and buy some other phone.

yo, there is no need to be aggressive, xda is a forum for development but this is exactly the reason General threads exist. This is a complaining-discussion thread so keep it cool.
So you think this phone, that fall from 2nd floor (slipped from my hand) and still survive without a dead pixel, is ****ty? Good thought..

I have to say, I don't love my ACE 2 but I like it alright.
Good cheap phone. I dont have lag's. Battery life is good, nice camera, good display, JB runs smooth with mc8/The Italian Job, games(most of them) works without major problems, only thing that i dont like on him is lack's of more custom roms. That is the only disadvantage for me. For such a cheap device is pretty good.

Xda users "awesome phone" placebo or I have not luck with my phone ?
I hate my ace 2 too, but i tried a lot of other phones about 200 € and every of them had some big problems... because of The custom rom guys (thanks mkel and kyrillos) the ace 2 runs pretty smoth, but there are so many things i dont like on this phone that cannot be solved with a custom rom :l

Then just buy a different device - how simple is that. For me this phone has everything I need. I'm not gamer and making pictures not often. General use for me is internet. Screen size is just right. So will it be good device or will it suck is defined mainly by your needs. For me it covers my needs compeletly so it is good device.
Regards!
This is my favourite Android phone so far (I think I've had 7 or 8). I prefer it to my Nexus 4. Size, speed, battery life are all just right. Still not as geeky as my Nokia N900 or as cool looking as my Ericsson T39, but no Android phones are!
I suggest you one thing: go to your local resell and buy another phone; I think is good, and I don't trust your opinion..
No one cares If is good for you or not..
Can someone close that thread?
This is provocation.
It may not be the best phone but its worth ur money. Plus we got the jb we asked for. The onlu thing i dont like about this phone is the lcd bleed on the top of my screen that creates a fog on the side screen sometimes. And the lack of cm10 makes me impatient.
