For starters: This tablet has absolutely no mods on it, it wasn't rooted, and the bootloader was stock, everything is stock. I don't have any backups of anything. It was purchased May 2012.
The story: Came home last week and saw an sd card on my desk, put it in my tablet, turned it on. Then I realised that the sd card I had just used was one that I previously had formatted with Homebrew channel for the Wii weeks earlier. Before I could take it out the damage had been done, the tablet was stuck on the acer screen. I left it running in hopes that it would work but after leaving it for 10+ hours on the acer screen I gave up. Turned it on the other day and now it's just a black screen. When plugged into the computer the tablet is running in APX mode. I have managed to retrieve my CPUID from a script in Ubuntu but I haven't managed to find an sbk converter.
So in my searching I hear a lot of mixed information, that the tablet can't be flashed from APX mode and some saying it can be. Some say it will only work if you have backups of your bootloader etc etc. I just can't figure out were to go from here.
I have used the reset button.
I have tried recovery pwr+down button.

There's a huge thread just for this, but here goes.
You can flash in apx mode, it may or may not save it, we've never tried, see below.
You can't use apx mode because we don't have the SBK to allow use of it, Acer kept it secret, so while an apx mode flash may save it, we can't do it. The info your stating is for the a500 which they cracked the SBK for. The a100 once bricked stays bricked until a motherboard replacement is done.

Really sorry about that, don't know how I missed it, I really have been looking around for information for a few weeks now.
Regardless I guess the only option is to scrap it, hack it, or pack it away.

Getting CPUID?

Hey. I have an acer a500 and I am also stuck in APX mode but I do not have a CPUID. Would you be willing to explain how you where able to get it from APX mode, and would I able to do it from windows?

If your A500 was ever plugged into your PC there's supposed to be a way to get it that way. If not there is a method to get it from APX mode but the tool for it needs to be built and runs in linux. The first command, any command, thrown at the bootloader in APX mode will respond with the CPUID.
That doesn't help for the A100 as we can't get the SBK the same way the A500 does, but the A500 can still get the SBK from the CPUID. You'll have better luck in the A500 forums, though.

Bricked Xoom built a program cable but fails to install drivers when connected. I tried going to devices and troubleshooting searched for drivers but none were found.
Any idea of what i can try next?
Have you downloaded drivers from motodev?
Prior to the bricking, could you connect to your computer?
It will connect but it just shows up as APX in the devices and says its missing drivers. I went to moto and downloaded USB drivers but still does the same thing. The xoom does nothing when plugged in.
Windows 7 or XP?

Windows 7. I did manage to get some drivers to install. Don't know if their the rite ones though. I clicked on let me choose such drivers, found some in SDK for htc,Samsung, and Motorola. Chose Motorola and it had several adb drivers clicked next and they installed. So now it just shows it as APX in the devices but no longer has the missing drive issue. Still no sign of life when trying adb or fastboot.
What mode is it in when you are attempting to connect it to your computer?

It's just a black screen. Won't turn on at all even when pressing volume+power. All it does is the white light comes on when charging. Can't get recovery mode or fastboot.

I have the same problem.. doing my head in trying to fix it. I have tryed everything i can think off. Anyone out there know how to fix it in apx mode using a factory cable ?
Did you ever find a solution to this issue?
I currently have a black-screen bricked Xoom. I have tried all the 'soft-unbrick' methods, I can _NEVER_ get anything to appear on screen. The only signs of life are with a 'factory cable'
With this 'factory cable' I am able to see 'APX' in my Device Manager. I can make it 'reboot' by doing the volume up + power which makes the device disappear and reappear. No other key combinations have any effect.
I am able to install either the Nvidia NVFlash drivers. However NVFlash doesn't work. Possibly due to a lack of SBK (Secure Boot Key).
I am also able to install the "Universal Naked Driver" which makes the device show up as an "Asus Transformer APX" However neither fastboot or adb seem to see the device.
Does anyone have any suggestions how I can unbrick my Xoom?

Dear all,
I got the same thing.
I installed the driver from nvflash drivers. And I ran several commands to try, it showed no bootloader was specified. I guess maybe I damaged my bootloader. Does any of you unbricked your xoom?
Here is a link to my post, which showed my tries.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838002
Anyone could help us? Thanks a lot.
Wow, i've been on that Wagon for a long time. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838002 Now I just gave up cause I don't think anyone has gone past installing the drives after it detecting as APX.
Thanks for your kindly reply.
So, you mean there is no hope.
Actually, I sent it to another MOTO local service center again. After one week, they told me they tried to restore the software in two steps, but only the first could be done, and then went back to brick again. And they thought there might be some damage on “the kit” of motherboard, and if I want to repair, the whole motherboard must be replaced totally.
If you still have the bricked XOOM, would you please try to draw the BCT and config.cfg from your device?
Again, I did another search. Although there is no available bootloader.bin, BCT and config.cfg for XOOM, I guess there might be possible to use SAMSUNG P7510's files, because the hardwares are almost same, and it's heard that P7510 could use XOOM's ROM.

hi,
i bought yesterdy a tablet from a private person and not a store. the tablet looked new, wraped in original wrping and all, and i didn't started it on, since i was told the owner didn't even do the 8 hours charge.
after charging, i started on the tablet, and it got stuck on the ASUS logo. i tried hard reset (button down + power for 12 seconds or more) but all it doe's is again the asus logo and nothing more.
is there anything that can be done?
needless to say the person i bought it from is unrechable (going to the police to comlain of fraud, but i was too stupid and didn't took his full details )
Contact asus for the warranty if they let you. This shouldn't be in the dev section though.

It's a good start.
And then you came back and ask your questions that will be possibly without response.

I saw that you had posted your problem elsewhere.
I see not other solution than to return the product that you purchased to Asus, with purchase (of the former owner) and sale invoices.
And try to explain your problem.
If I find something, I would come back to you

Do you have access to recovery or ANY adb access? Since asus didn't release the sbk for the TF300 (Only fastboot if your bootloader is unlocked) Idt you have NvFlash access, you could attempt it but without a sbk afaik Apx mode is useless.
If you can get fastboot/adb access via the volume-down+power menu you may be able to flash recovery and then a ROM or adb flash/fastboot flash a full restore stock blob through the staging partition.

That's why I can't explain why he can't flash one recovery by fastboot command.
Is that your installation of Asus drivers , and SDK is correct? just verify it
Access Adb or not? When you connect your TF can you access to your recovery or not?

I think peri should do the trick

Its a solution brought to you by user things o doom

EDIT: when i am using this tool, i cant see my pad in the list of devices in this progrem
it didnt helped, the screen is still black, drivers that installed in my PC are NVVIDIA USB BOOT recovery driver for mobile devices
EDIT: sry for duplicity, but i dont know how to delete this post
So you see peri do the whole nine yards and still the same black screen?
I've gotta say Things o doom made this app and it should solve soft bricks. Thats why i thought about peri.
you acctually run the .bat as administrator though ?
Peri retains the data the topic says. Things o Doom says that won't work if you wiped it allready with cwm
Must admit we should ask things o doom because of the fact he build the app and knows lot about the nvflash programs. As he can give you a better advice!
I mailed him too let you know in this topic what possibilities are for your tablet
Just use wheelie NvFlash and reinstall stock fw.
Download this: http://xdafileserver.nl/index.php?dir=Asus/Asus+Transformer+(TF101)/STOCK+ROMS/ICS+.24
extract to a folder.
Then download this: http://androidroot.mobi/2012/05/31/wheelie-for-windows-beta/
and extract it to the same folder, overwrite files from the first download with the wheelie files. Then plug tab in APX mode and run reflash_sbkv1 to unbrick
Edit: ^^This happens way too often doom
It is impossible for NVFlash not to work unless you have a 101g or a Slider. Get yourself into APX mode and run NVFlash again
i followed Thing O Doom's instructions, this is my screen after flashing.

http://www.pixhost.org/show/3551/13407010_imag0124.jpg
after that i disconnected the cable and switched it off and tried to switch it on again, but there is no reply. but if i connect the cable again, thereis sound from my pc, like if i connect known HW and if u start flashing again, it goes to APXautomatically without power button + vol up. i think, that the pad is still in APX but i dont know how to exit it.
Afternoon guys,
Before anyone has a go at me, I've have spent about five hours looking through this forum for what I'm looking for and i've tried all the easy unroot/easy flasher/etc and got all the stock Asus rom and recovery. AND the forum search is temporarily unavailable.
So here is what I have:
ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.3.4
Liquid Smooth Rom
I have installed the stock rom, recovery and wiped everything.
If i press the power button it loads into CWM recovery.
If i press power and down vol, it loads to the wipe data/load android screen, and which it hangs on forever,
So I guess what im asking you good people of the internet is:
A) How do I finally get rid of CWM Recovery (because even if i install another recovery it boots back to CWM), and
B) How on gods earth do I get back to stock?
Now I know people are going to be like search the forums, I have, and I've tried literally everything that everyone has posted, and clearly while it's worked for millions of other people, my tablet is retarded and doesnt want to follow the norm.
Also i am the greatest noob ever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hmmm, did you unzip the stock ROM once before flashing (it will still be a zip).
Otherwise, try using EasyFlasher and APX mode. For EasyFlasher, do not unzip the stock ROM, use it as it downloads from Asus.

Yea probably, I've never tried using NVFlash on anything other than a PC running Windows
Try updating the NVidia APX Device with these drivers
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1489867&d=1353190140
Chances are its the drivers running on the Mac that are causing the problem with the USB > VMWare > TF101
I know nothing about Mac, but I heard you can install Windows 7 almost natively using Bootcamp or something? Might be worth trying that if you can't do it in VMWare

Great!
At least you know now you can do what you like with it firmware / ROM / Recovery wise, and always be able to return it to stock, you can't break APX mode unless you physically damage the tablet
Hi there,
a friend of mine, gave me this tablet because was bricked. Now i have tried the famous easyflasher with his "flash default stock" ability.
I have already installed the naked driver on my pc, and the tablet in apx mode is correctly recognized by windows.
Via easyflasher i have already started the flashing of the recovery "RogueXM Touch v1.5.0-R1" and now i'm going to flash the stock rom.
All goes pretty well, but at this time the process is stucked on the screen:
"""""
Nvflash started
[resume mode]
"""""
The tablet is still recognized by windows (i can find them on hardware connected).
So the question is: it's normal that the Nvflash take long time, and don't give me any output on his work? Nor if it's going to do something?
Let me know.
Thank you...
