CM 10.1 weird screen before boot animation - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I flashed CM 10.1 and before the CyanogenMod animation boot starts, I get this screen for 1-2 seconds:
Is it a bug specific to the CM version I downloaded maybe? Or a bug and I need to fix it somehow?
Btw, is there a place / thread where I can report this bug to CyanogenMod developers maybe?
Thanks!

I am getting the same thing after I have updated to Official Jelly bean ROM through Mobile odin. Other than this, my Tab is functioning smooth and without any glitches. So I am not bothered at all with this.
If any of you can throw any light on this will be welcome.

U must update to official jelly been 4.1.1 first using Odin, then installed cm10.1.. Or if u installed cm10.1 over ics, then u need to install jelly bean bootloader to avoid such crappy screen.. Search it..

This is a known issue but with very low priority. It's because you have 4.0.4 bootloader. It is one of the reasons I've recommended flashing stock 4.1 from a country nearby yours. That way you wouldn't have this strange screen, and hopefully it would also take care of this so called baseband problem or something.

Thanks you two,
Can I now flash stock rom over CM 10.1? All I need to do is download a firmware from SamMobile and flash it over the CM? or you can't do that? because got_creature said that if I already installed CM I need to install only the bootloader.
Btw, Is flashing stock rom from SamMobile done same way in CWM > Install Zip from sd? I am asking that because I did download a stock firmware, but it weights much much more than CM 10.1 so I'm afraid to flash it (CM weights about 150MB and official Samsung rom weights about 700MB)

You can install only the bootloader, but it is considered more dangerous than flashing stock rom, which will give you the same effect.
Stock weights much more than CM, because it is heavily bloated, so that is normal.
And you need to flash stock rom via Odin, for the changes in bootloader to take effect. Than you flash CM again, the same way you did it before. Just remember to always make a clean installation (factory reset, clear data and cache, optionally format \system through recovery, to avoid bootloop or getting stuck on bootlogo. And if happens anyway, don't panic, just boot into recovery and again factory reset and clear data and cache.

does the order of doing these things matter? I should format \system after doing other things? btw formatting system is done by "mounts and storage>format /system" ? just to be sure because I've never done that

Format system just before flashing the zip with cm10.1. There is absolutely no need of doing it before flashing stock via Odin. To be honest, there is usually no need of doing it at all, there was one guy that said somewhere on xda that it may reduce the possibility of some bugs occurring during everyday use, so you may consider this step worth considering.
And yes, it's done in mounts and storage in recovery.

Btw, I looked in SamMobile and there is no jelly bean version for my country, and I did not see any jelly bean version that matches my country's "MODEM", will that cause problems with Phone?
(*does Odin version matter? I am using the 1.85).Is it possible to use Mobile Odin Lite instead to flash the stock rom? or it's not safe?

Mobile Odin does not have access to bootloader, so you need to use pc odin for this operation. And as I said, flash the stock 4.1 rom from a country near your, and everything should be fine.

[Q] I did something bad in ICS

I thought I could flash a theme to the stock ICS leak. But apparently that doesn't work because it's not de-odexed. Is there a way to de-odex the stock ROM on my phone? If not, is there a way to undo my theme flash (I forgot to make a backup ). Or, can I go back to stock ICS by just flashing the Odin one click ICS leak?
If you're not worried about losing anything try factory reset. Sometimes themes will stick, if it does just flash through Odin and your good to go.

Yeah, I tried the factory reset. It didn't do anything. I'm not worried about losing data though. I have everything backed up with Titanium. So, I can flash directly from Odin without clearing cache, etc through CWM?
Themes do not work on odexed . Period. Flash one of the custom . Deodexed ics roms if u wsnt a theme
If u flash the collective ics rom . You will not loose data or anything. Just download and flash. It will sort out your issue. And give u a good rom check it out here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1548469

I'm a little confused. Do I just flash it in CWM without wiping anything, or do I follow these instructions?
1. Make a nandroid backup, it is always a good idea
2. Have your apps backed-up with titanium
3. Downloadrom, and place onsd card
4. Shutdown, and boot to cwm recovery
5. Wipe data, wipe cache
6. Select mounts/storage, and choose format system
7. Flash rom
8. Fix permissions
9. Reboot.
10. Enjoy

(Q) jellybam 1.3 won't flash

Hi guys. Al thou this is my first post I've been flashing my i9003 for a year or so and i've never had any problems until now.
I have an stock gingerbread installed (XXKPQ) that I flashed using odin, kernel version (2.6.35.7-CL709629 [email protected] #1)
Just so you know, I'm from Argentina, and in order to be able to use 3g, had to keep the modem in I9003LUBKB1 version.
I also flashed cf root (by Skin1980) and I'm using CWM v1.80
I get the latest jellybam (1.3) from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1972087
And followed the instructions in the official website : http://www.igio90.net/how-to-install/
Just in case you're too lazy to follow the link here are the instructions:
What to do if you are coming from a Stock, CyanogenMod, MIUI, AOKP and any other custom ROM different from JellyBam
-Download the latest revision of JellyBam ROM for your device
-Place the zip into your internal SDCard
-Boot into CWM recovery (Home+Power+Volume up until samsung logo appear)
-Wipe data/factory reset
-Wipe dalvik cache (Inside advanced tab)
-Install zip from internal SDCard
-Welcome to JellyBam!
(I had to wipe the data first and then put the zip in the sd card because wiping the data was erasing the jellybam zip)
The first time I run the installer it got stuck at 50% while installing sony's media player. So i just started the process again and uncheked sony walkman player, it installed "successfully".
When the phone restarted, it was just the old gingerbread, in the about phone panel, it was all the same that before installing jellybam.
So it obviously didn't installed. I can make calls, send and receive messages, wifi is working fine.
So can anyone tell me what am I doing wrong? Do i have to flash a jellybean kernel?, I dont really know hoe to do that but I'm sure there's more than one post around here that explains that process.
If this question has already been posted I'm really sorry, I did search for any post that could help me with this problem but I didn't find any real answer.
I really hope somebody can help me, and sorry for the bad english, I did study the language but it was a long time ago.
Thanks everybody, specially to developers, you're awesome.:good:
I think you should fist flash theJellyBam v1.1.0 alpha4 in order to repartition before flash the v1.3. hope it can help u.

First of all thank you for your helpful answer (I clicked the thank you button).
I have cwm version 5 and I have been having the same problem than the OP. I'd like to flash a CM rom before going on to JB 1.3 so my question is, knowing that I currently have an I9003XXKPR 2.3.6 rom, can I flash CM 10 or should I start by a previous version? And, if so, which one?
Thank you for your help.

i think you should start from zero. take a backup of your files, flash a stock rom and then use universal cf root to root your phone. then flash cm 10 alpha 4 and then the jellybam 1.3. that's the way i have flashed mine. i hope it helps.

Good luck! i hope you flash it correctly! just read and follow the instructions in the cm10 thread thoroughly so you can avoid any problems.
All custom rom unofficial, not compile, but directly modify our base cyanogen
It is recommended to start on a CM10 origin
Example A3 to A4
KPE> LF2> CF-LF2
Wipe Data / Factory Reset. (MUST DO THIS STEP)
Select the CM10 A4.zip from your SD Card and flash.
Auto rebooted into recovery (if it show error mounting / cache, and cant mount in manually mount and storage, do wipe / cache)
Go to Advanced -> Reboot Recovery
Select the CM10 A4.zip from your SD Card and flash again
Go to Advanced -> Reboot Recovery.
Mounts and Storage -> Format dbdata (you would not find this in CWM so just ignor 6)
8. reboot
You can then flash all based on Unofficial Alpha 4
Just do the basic procedure wipe

The usual way, you do all necesarry whipes, and then you install the rom you want. But: no dirty flashesas 4.2 and 4.3have eome architectural diferences (whipe sostem, whipe cache and dalvik, in mounts and storage format both sistem and SD card - better if you back up your photos, music and all media to pc as this deletes everithing you have on in), then connect your phone to PC/Laptop via USB and copy the files of the rom you want, the G-apps and/or kernel

Always after full whipe and factory reset you:
1. Flash the desired rom (it has a kernel of it's own
2. Flash Gapps (they have to be Gapps for your specific rom android version)
3. Flash a custom kernel you like (if you will skip step 3 the rom will still boot up case it comes with it's own kernel, but if you downgrade it's good to flash one case the rom one is mostlikely outdated; and remember that the kernel you flash has to have suport for he android version you flash)
My advice to you if you downgrade is not to go back further than ICS case newer apps will probably have compatibility issues with really old outdated system versions

[Q] Device does not boot

Hello,
Just had issue with my Samsung galaxy S3.
A lot of sudden death and device freezes.
I installed the "[ROM][364MB][NB7]Revolutionary S5 V2 - Like your new Galaxy S5? [23RD MAR][FLYING][AVAILABLE]"
rom and since then i cannot boot my device.
After the installation was finished and just click the reboot option and its stucked on the boot screen(Samsung Galaxy s3 image)
Is it what's called a brick?
Is there any way to fix that issue?
I know i can get into recovery.
I'm having trouble with the sd card, I guess it's related cause it was working well before having issue with the device.
Any suggestion from you guys?

Sure. You don't need adb for installing a rom!
Perform a wipe
copy CUSTOMROM.zip* to your sdcard
install it via recovery
be happy again
*you can choose any custom rom compatible to your device.
The sd card is curropted for some reason.
I try the ADB but get the error attached.
Any reason what's wrong?
Or how can I fix this issue?

Don't use adb sideload pls. Just go to recovery --> format sd-card --> mount sd to computer --> copy rom.zip to sdcard manually. You dont need adb sideload
I format the external_sd
I mount the external_sd but can get the drive in my local machine.
do you i need to do something in addition to get the drive in my pc?
What Recovery Version do you use actually?
]Do You have the SIII gt-i9300?
If you have unbranded SIII GT-i9300 --> This is the best recovery avaiable PhilZ advanced cwm 6.19.3 . You can flash it using Odin 3.07
Latest usb drivers --> Samsung USB drivers
Your solution is good.
I installed this recovery and managed to mount my sd card and then install a different rom.
Thing I still have the sudden death issue.
I understood that any rom with version of 4.1.2 and above has that relevant fixes but its just didn't solve my issue.
Any suggestion about that?

I installed a custom ROM based on stock and it reduced the freezes and sudden death big time but didn't solve it.
since the installation one day ago i had a couple of sudden deaths.
I did all wipes the recovery have to offer but I still see picture and old data I had.
No way to format the entire phone and then install a ROM from recovery?

You can format everything using PhilZ recovery:
-->Mounts&Storage
Format /system /cache /data /storage/sdcard0 /storage/sdcard1
Then copy the rom to your sdcard and install it again. If that does not work you will have to flash the stock firmware once using odin before you can use a custom rom again.
Keep in mind that a custom kernel can cause system instability and errors.

Dumb I was ,in my blind tries, I've deleted my backups and now the only place i can flash is my microSD card.
Help please , I'm really stuck . :crying:

The first boot always takes longer as it is setting up, but no longer than ~5 minutes.
Anyway... If you've waited and it is boot looping, try these steps:
Make sure your recovery is up to date.
Wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik cache.
Flash ROM, gapps, and any addons
Wipe cache and dalvik
Reboot. After first reboot is complete and on setup screen, wait 5 minutes and reboot into recovery.
Wipe cache and dalvik again. Reboot
This reboot could also take ~5 minutes, but the others shouldn't as long as you don't wipe cache and dalvik.
You should see an "Android is Upgrading" screen. After this is done, complete setup and you should be good to go.

I don't know, sadly. Maybe someone else will know and we'll both learn something.

Back to stock rom for now, prepare (charge until full).
Re-root, then reboot to recovery to try again flashing the rom.
Always format /system, /cache, /data/media first when installing different roms. Good luck

Stock rom is working fine? Is root working on stock?
Did you get any errors while flashing costom roms?
I remember a folk here got a same problem as you, and i think it's not resolved yet..
Maybe you and him have a "special" devices.
Don't worry, it's not a problem with your ext-sd because i use it all the time. and if it was ext-sd problem, you'll get an error while flashing.
I suggest messages devs in developement section, maybe they can figure out what is wrong.
And of course i think it's not safe to restore others nandroid backup, so don't mind find it.
God speed, wish I can help you more

Sadly my stock rom is gone.
So yesterday when I've rerooted whit your link I've received two errors :
- SOKP and when I've flash it something like poped up : E:Cannot write to sd card clockworkmod recovery etc.
- CM 11 :
Root Access Possibly Lost Fix?
THIS CANNOT BE UNDONE
1. YES fix root (/system/xbin/su)
2. NO do not fix

Like I said earlier, you should have flashing stock rom first to remove root via odin/hemidall.. you can find it at sammobile, com
then re-root with link i gave earlier again via odin/hemidall, and format in recovery like i said earlier. no wonder you still fail..
you should have philz touch recovery instead cwm if you succeed.
