[Q] I did something bad in ICS - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I thought I could flash a theme to the stock ICS leak. But apparently that doesn't work because it's not de-odexed. Is there a way to de-odex the stock ROM on my phone? If not, is there a way to undo my theme flash (I forgot to make a backup ). Or, can I go back to stock ICS by just flashing the Odin one click ICS leak?

If you're not worried about losing anything try factory reset. Sometimes themes will stick, if it does just flash through Odin and your good to go.

Yeah, I tried the factory reset. It didn't do anything. I'm not worried about losing data though. I have everything backed up with Titanium. So, I can flash directly from Odin without clearing cache, etc through CWM?

Themes do not work on odexed . Period. Flash one of the custom . Deodexed ics roms if u wsnt a theme
If u flash the collective ics rom . You will not loose data or anything. Just download and flash. It will sort out your issue. And give u a good rom check it out here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1548469
Its the 4.0.3 ics rom at the bottom of the op

I'm a little confused. Do I just flash it in CWM without wiping anything, or do I follow these instructions?
1. Make a nandroid backup, it is always a good idea
2. Have your apps backed-up with titanium
3. Downloadrom, and place onsd card
4. Shutdown, and boot to cwm recovery
5. Wipe data, wipe cache
6. Select mounts/storage, and choose format system
7. Flash rom
8. Fix permissions
9. Reboot.
10. Enjoy

Nexus S 4G Root issues?

I've been playing around with a Nexus S 4G that I have lying around and never used, and I've ran into a few problems, but you've all been helpful. I rooted all my old EVO 4G's without any problem, but the other day I rooted my NS4G using a one click/simple root and downloaded ClockWorkMod etc. But now for some reason It seems like I've almost lost my root? Is that possible? I still have the little unlocked symbol when booting up.
I've searched this forum and Google and haven't found anything, which could possibly be because I don't know what to look for. I've never had this happen :/
Currently running the stock 2.3.7
Nobody? I just need a little help.

Now I just need to re figure out how to backup my stock rom on rom manager. I need to do that if I'm going to flash a custom rom onto my NS4G correct? I've never actually gone that far with my phones lol.

Okay lol hold on so just go make sure you
1. Unlocked the bootloader right?
2. Flashed a custom recovery (clockworkmod)?
3. Flashed superuser for root access?
4. Now you have a stock rooted ROM?
If you have/did all that then yeah you could backup your stock rooted ROM, you don't need to back it up but its helpful just incase you mess something you could always restore it to start all over
And you could backup any ROM you install incase you didn't know, just remember when you install different ROMS make sure to do a proper full wipe which includes data/factory reset/wiping DALVIK cache, and formatting system and boot in the "mount" option in CWM. And now I think your good lol

Unlocked Bootloader? If I boot in fastboot it says Unlocked. Is this what you mean?
I have ClockWorkMod, but I haven't done anything with it.
I have superuser from the root
and I was working with a stock ROM the whole time....
I think I'm ok lol
So I'll back up my ROM, and flash a Nightly CM9? And back that up as well? Just perform a factory data reset before doing so, right?

Yeah if it says unlocked your good to go. The super user.zip you first flashed won't be needed once you flash different ROMS, it was only needed for stock because you didn't install a ROM you just unlocked the boot loader and super user just gave you root access that didn't come with stock.
Yeah backup your stock ROM JUST in case you encounter a boot loop so you can just restore and start over, you don't need to back up CM9 that's completely your choice if you want . Its convenient though if you like CM9 but still like to flash other ROMS that way you can just go back if you miss CM9 without doing the whole setup process.
And a full wipe is
Data/factory reset
Then wipe dalvik under "advanced"
Then wipe system and boot under the "mount" option in CWM

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to post links to videos or not. But I'm in love with some of the features this guy has on his NS4G

The hidden status bar and bottom menu hidden is amazing. I also like the inverted G-Mail and Facebook. Is this all separate from the Nightly ROM?

Switching from one ROM to another

I'm currently using SkyRocket ICS (2.3.5 Gingerbread)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377087
and everything is awesome but my phone signal, att logo, wifi, notifications, doesnt appear on the top of the phone so i want to try out another ROM. This one in particular, NexusMod 4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426590
Do I just flash the new ROM in CWM recovery like I did to get my first ROM? Or is there more to it?
Thanks!
That's a problem on your end, that rom is flawless and you flashed it wrong
This is the guide I used to flash the ROM
http://www.traemcneely.com/2011/12/27/install-custom-rom-at-ciq-removed-short-review-instructions/
I compared it with ones on xda and it was identical but more noob friendly which I preferred. I dont know what I couldve possibly done wrong.. I followed EVERYTHING step by step. I love everything about this ROM except this one major annoyance.

It was a bad flash or bad download. Try to redownload and check the md5, then simply reflash it making sure to follow instructions and wipe properly
Sorry, but may I ask what an md5 is? And the specific ROM I want
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377087
doesn't provide instructions, at least that I know of so I followed this guide
http://www.traemcneely.com/2011/12/27/install-custom-rom-at-ciq-removed-short-review-instructions/
Only problem I can think of that I made was flashing the RC 6.75 Stock ROM and then wiping cache partition and flashing the 7.4 Stock Nonewipeupdate right afterwards which is exactly what the guide asked for. Was I suppose to reboot after flashing the stock RC 6.75 ROM before flashing the 7.4 Stock Nonewipeupdate?

You need to flash the base and boot it before flashing an update, like you said.
Before flashing any rom this is a general procedure
wipe data/factory reset 3x
Wipe cache 3x
wipe dalvik cache 3x
format system 3x
flash radio if need be
flash rom
reboot
dont touch phone for at least 10 mins
set up basics
if it has an update
reboot to cwm
wipe cache 3x
wipe dalvik cache 3x
flash update
reboot
Okk. ONE LAST question. The SkyRocket ICS (2.3.5 Gingerbread) ROM I'm using doesn't have or provide a radio file to DL on the page which I linked earlier. Does that imply that this particular ROM doesn't need it? Or am I suppose to find a radio to flash before flashing the ROM and update?
Thanks alot for your help/advice!! Really appreciate it!

In about phone, what does it say for baseband? Kj2 is the 2.3.5 stock radio
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
If the radio you're using is working and you're flashing from gb to gb, you shouldn't have to worry about the radio. You'll still have the same one. Radios flash separately from roms. I don't think you'll NEED to flash a new radio unless you change to an ICS rom.

Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version I727UCKJ2
Kernal version 2.6.35.11+
Build number Sky-ICS RC7.4 Stock
When I purchased my phone and after I rooted it, I was v2.3.5 but after I flashed my first ROM (which is my current ROM) the android version changed to v2.3.6. So if KJ2 is the stock radio for v2.3.5 is there a possibility my problem of not having the att logo and wifi signal on the top of my phone due to not having the correct radio for this ROM? or for v2.3.6 in general? Or is it from what you said earlier, my flashing process was wrong? Or a mixture or not having the correct radio and flashing wrong?

Well, I don't really know whether or not the radio is working. I suppose in my case it is working since I am able to recieve and make calls, text, and go on the web. However, I am unable to see the att logo, wifi/cell signal on the top of my phone. I don't know if this problem has anything to do with the radio though. Sorry for my lack of understanding..
I'm assuming the problem is more my fault in terms of not flashing correctly. I have no idea whether or not I need a separate radio for this ROM.
Sounds like a systemui /frame work problem
Wipe data/cache/dalvik
Reflash
Fully boot
Shutdown
Flash update
Wipe dalvik
Reboot.
The signals at the top wouldn't be affected by he radio. You would most likely get them back if you reflashed your from or flashed another. As long as it's a 2.3.5 or 2.3.6. And also follow the instructions (usually pretty standard, wipe data factory reset a few times, wipe cache partition, advanced, wipe dalvik cache a few times, go back, mounts and storage, format system a few times. Then install zip from SD card) oh and always backup first and make sure you can restore the backup. But yeah if you can make calls and use internet, your radio should be OK.

Not sure the deal with your cell/wifi signals not showing in your status bar, but, the carrier logo could have been removed in the ROM itself.
I would try out the nexusmod zero ics I'm running it now and I like it a lot more than nexus 4. Also when I went from the from you are on now I had to do a super wipe before I could get the ics rom to work without bootloop

Going from CM9 to stock ?

I have cm9 and want to go back to stock type roms.. less bugs..
anyway, how do I do this? I did a full wipe and restored hydro but the kernel stays on CM9 kernel.. and wifi wont turn on...
You need to flash the actual .30 zip from asus. That returns you to stock. Then do a custom recovery/root and THEN flash hydro.

Which recovery do you have? Flash the latest twrp recovery and you can flash hydro without the need to return to stock. Simply download the newest base for hydro. You can also flash clean rom over cm9 without returning to stock. Make sure that you wipe cache, dalvic, factory data reset, and format system.

A small question Flashing rom/mods.

When we flash a mod or zip file [for eg. DSP manager] through CWM. And if it is not working on the rom how do we revert back to the stock rooted rom?
1. Just go into CWM recovery and restore Nand backup [no wiping anything]
2. Wiping dalvik & cache and reboot phone [no need to restore via backup]
3. Wiping AND Restoring via CWM
4. Or any other way to remove the mod [flashed zip] without restoring nand backup.
Please specify which things we have to wipe .
I am asking this question coz its really a pain to restore backup all the time if the mod [zip file] doesnt work with the rom. Thanks!
Can you try this one?
See the folders in that zip file you flashed. See the paths of different files inside it and delete it.
Like if you flashed dsp manager. It has dspmaneger.apk in that file under system/app folder and other updater scripts.
So you can just delete dspmaneger.apk from system/app from root of your device's storage. Same with other files too.

Thanks for ur reply..But i was later going to flash ACID mod...So the dev told me to get back to stock and then flash it.
If i could just remove the DSP manager like u said and flash acid rom..Then why is the dev of acid mod asking me to get back to stock?
If I have already installed Acid Audio Engine, should I just flash your mod over it, or should I go back to stock and then flash it?
Go back to stock and flash. Never mix soundmods

Hey sorry for not replying.
There is no system where you uninstall the mods unlike you do with apps.
The method i stated above should work after clearing cache etc. But if the auther of the mod instruct you to use that on stock rom then please follow his instuctions

Mods are different and I don't know about what you installed, but it's certainly safest to restore to stock and then try the different one - that way you don't have unexpected "pieces" hanging around that may conflict with the new one.
When I restore a backup, I treat it like a completely new ROM, I wipe everything (after all, it's going to restore everything) and then hit "restore".

GALAXY Y Boots only in Stock ROM even after flash

I had rooted my phone, and did use Jelly Blast for a while worked perfect. After a few days I tried installing mods through cwm which led to boot loops. I used odin and got stock ROM for my phone . Now when I tried installing Nemesis ROM, I followed all steps right but though it shows Nemesis boot picture, it still boots into the stock OS.

I have tried the following steps:
1. Odin stock rom: I just have pda,csc and modem. I do not have bootloader and pit.
2. Then went to Recovery and installed CWM
3. Installed custom rom JELLY Blast which previously had no issues. (Before this I wiped data, cache & dalvik)
4. Result - > Stuck on Samsung screen.
After which I cannot get back to any recovery mode anymore, it is stuck on samsung screen. All I have to do is go back to download mode and odin it again. But I really want to be back on custom roms

Hi,
This is not your phone issue alone but any phone can face this. To reproduce this issue, it takes more than what you have mentioned. But the solution comes through if you follow these steps just as listed by me here:
1. Get an older version of official Samsung Firmware (preferably 1 or 2 versions older than the latest one)
2. Flash this using ODIN (if flashing fails at any point via ODIN user an even older Stock Firmware version)
3. If you can boot into the Rom fine, reboot to its Stock Recovery
4. From Stock recover, start the CWM.zip that you have (version 5 or 6 whichever lets you load fine, does not matter at this point)
5. When inside CWM, go into Advanced and select "Fix Permissions"
6. Only after you have fixed permissions, go ahead and do the Wipes in the order below
7. Wipe Dalvik Cache, Wipe Cache, Wipe Data
8. Once this is done, load the custom ROM you want to install from this CWM session
9. After install, when you go for reboot, see if you get any option that says something like "prevent from flashing stock recovery" or so, say yes to it.
This should fix any permission issue that may be preventing you to get to your favorite ROM from stock ROM.
Let me know if this helps or if I can help you further.
Glad if this helped you in any way !
