When we flash a mod or zip file [for eg. DSP manager] through CWM. And if it is not working on the rom how do we revert back to the stock rooted rom?
1. Just go into CWM recovery and restore Nand backup [no wiping anything]
2. Wiping dalvik & cache and reboot phone [no need to restore via backup]
3. Wiping AND Restoring via CWM
4. Or any other way to remove the mod [flashed zip] without restoring nand backup.
Please specify which things we have to wipe .
I am asking this question coz its really a pain to restore backup all the time if the mod [zip file] doesnt work with the rom. Thanks!
Can you try this one?
See the folders in that zip file you flashed. See the paths of different files inside it and delete it.
Like if you flashed dsp manager. It has dspmaneger.apk in that file under system/app folder and other updater scripts.
So you can just delete dspmaneger.apk from system/app from root of your device's storage. Same with other files too.

Thanks for ur reply..But i was later going to flash ACID mod...So the dev told me to get back to stock and then flash it.
If i could just remove the DSP manager like u said and flash acid rom..Then why is the dev of acid mod asking me to get back to stock?
If I have already installed Acid Audio Engine, should I just flash your mod over it, or should I go back to stock and then flash it?

Hey sorry for not replying.
There is no system where you uninstall the mods unlike you do with apps.
The method i stated above should work after clearing cache etc. But if the auther of the mod instruct you to use that on stock rom then please follow his instuctions

Mods are different and I don't know about what you installed, but it's certainly safest to restore to stock and then try the different one - that way you don't have unexpected "pieces" hanging around that may conflict with the new one.
When I restore a backup, I treat it like a completely new ROM, I wipe everything (after all, it's going to restore everything) and then hit "restore".

yes hi i am trying to flash a rom i have a samung galaxy s2 from sprint i belive its the epic 4g touch an phone is already rooted yet when i go to flash the rom from the boot menu where u flash the roms at i clear the data factory reset an cashe however when i go to flash rom it looks like it is working an all of a sudden the droid fall dead with a red triangle if anybody could please help me i would very much apprciate it please thank you

i have a nandroid stock rom backup i did it when my phone is not yet rooted.
now i successfuly flashed hybridrom v2.1 in my phone.
my question is
1. is it ok to restore the nonrooted stockrom back up in my phone?
2. should i delete phone data ang cache before restoring the backup?
3. what cw recoverry mod i'll use in my SGY? ive found out thre are lots of ver its confusng .

i was saying that if i wana go back to my stock rom (original rom) wich is not rooted can i restore it using CW?
if i flash back to my stock nandroid backup using CW my phone will not be rooted and it will restore the default samsung rom?
its just my theory though i haven't tried it yet i`m asking question like this for my future reference
Well...
Yes your device wont be rooted and will return to the stock rom.
Since the nandroid backup copies the whole partition. just like Norton Ghost does on the pc, so your phone will just go back to its exact status it was at that time.
You wont need to wipe user data/factory reset, because of the data partition being restored by CW.
Well you are asking for a recovery. How did you make a nan backup if you have no recovery?
Or you used the stock one? if you used the stock one, aren't you able to use it to restore?
Or do you want a new more powerful recovery?
As in the previous post they mentioned, use the one you like, with the most options

I thought I could flash a theme to the stock ICS leak. But apparently that doesn't work because it's not de-odexed. Is there a way to de-odex the stock ROM on my phone? If not, is there a way to undo my theme flash (I forgot to make a backup ). Or, can I go back to stock ICS by just flashing the Odin one click ICS leak?
If you're not worried about losing anything try factory reset. Sometimes themes will stick, if it does just flash through Odin and your good to go.

Yeah, I tried the factory reset. It didn't do anything. I'm not worried about losing data though. I have everything backed up with Titanium. So, I can flash directly from Odin without clearing cache, etc through CWM?
Themes do not work on odexed . Period. Flash one of the custom . Deodexed ics roms if u wsnt a theme

I'm a little confused. Do I just flash it in CWM without wiping anything, or do I follow these instructions?
1. Make a nandroid backup, it is always a good idea
2. Have your apps backed-up with titanium
3. Downloadrom, and place onsd card
4. Shutdown, and boot to cwm recovery
5. Wipe data, wipe cache
6. Select mounts/storage, and choose format system
7. Flash rom
8. Fix permissions
9. Reboot.
10. Enjoy

I tried to modify the build.prop file of my LG Optimus 2X to simply disable the animation during the boot. It didn't really worked well because my cellphone is now looping during the boot. I think I saved the build.prop on my sdcard but now I don't know what to do...! I tried to hard reset and wipe date, but it's still no booting. I have clockwork mod instal.

Well, first, I'd like to ask if you have a CWM backup of your system before you edited your build.prop? I assume that since you can wipe the data, you can reach CWM. If you can and have a backup, try recovering that backup and see if that works. If you do not, then you can always try to find an RUU (ROM update utility) that should return your phone to an unrooted, stock ROM. I don't know of any other options, all I can say now is become best friends with that search bar up there.

revert to stock, oh just reflash whatever custom ROM you have been using (if you have any), you should be able to mount SD card from CWM and copy your ROM in there and flash away. I am under the assumption that since you were doing your DIY mods there, you should have knowledge of flashing back to stock or Custom Roms of choice. Good luck.

. First thing you should do is a nand backup in recovery (so you have something to go back to if all else fails)
. backup your SD card
. move your nand backup and sd card backup to your computer (that way if your sd gets corrupted you can reformat and push your backups to your device)
. you can also backup your apps + data with something like titanium backup (although now at least in JB if you have chosen this option Google will restore your apps, does not always work for me though so beware)
! Note that Tibu is quite controversial some people love it and swear by it and some people claim that it creates lots of issues, if you decide to use it, only use it to backup/restore user apps and not system apps. I personally use the pro version since it can sync backups to my Box and Dropbox account.
in addition to all of this I backup my sms, call log and custom launcher settings (but that's just me i'm a bit paranoid and I love redundancy)
When you're staying with the same rom you typically don't have to factory reset/clean install (unless of course the dev recommends it), just wipe cache and dalvik in recovery and flash your new rom.zip (don't forget to fastboot flash the boot.img if you're on the latest hboot) in recovery.
If you do not factory reset/clean install you will not loose data fingers-crossed. if you start encountering a lot of weirdness after a dirty flash well you will have to factory reset/clean install. I like to clean install most of the time so that I don't have to try to troubleshoot a bunch of stuff when s**T goes wrong plus it's easier to get support for obvious reasons.
In this particular case Milestone release of AOKP (milestone is a "stable" release and this is the first one) I would ABSOLUTELY do a clean install and I believe Rohan requires it because of kernel changes and the likes.
Hope all this makes sense and I did not forget anything.

Clean install: The partitions are empty
Proper steps
Wipe System
Factory Reset
Wipe Cache (Optional, Factory reset should have done it already)
Wipe Dalvik Cache (optional, I usually dont wipe and problems dont occur)

Before I did any flashing, I made a backup of my phone of the latest HTC Sense. It was only unlocked and not rooted. That back up is still there. If I wanted I could wipe and restore this backup correct? I would not have to flash anything right?

You will have to flash the boot.IMG from your backup and then restore the backup if you want to revert back to it

You have to extract the boot.IMG to your computer and flash it with fastboot. Then restore the backup

You can get the boot.IMG from the ruu zip or a 2.20 stock rooted Rom, which is in the one x pinup sticky in the android development section
Edit: boot.emmc.win is the boot.IMG. just rename it to boot.IMG and flash it from fastboot

yep just rename boot.emmc as boot.img and now you can use this on one xl http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963896
makes it a lot friendlier, you don't need to extract the boot.img from the rom.zip, the app does for you and also you don't need a computer, you can do it all from your device

I own a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 P3100,recently I rooted it and flashed Ubuntu,it was successful but I was unhappy with what Ubuntu offers me right now.
Now,I want to switch back to the backup which I created when I was on stock.
Will this work
Factory reset --> Wipe Dalvik Cache --> Wipe Everything --> Restore to Stock ROM (Backup)
Everywhere I see here,they mention downloading the stock rom and then installing it with odin. Is it needed?Can't we just restore to a backup with wiping everything?

Cool,Thanks for the reply.Today I couldn't wait for too long and I installed it through Odin.Next time When I install a custom ROM I would restore with a previous backup rather than downloading a ROM and installing it with Odin.

what does "format system" do?

actually my device internal memory canot be deleted! after a factory reset it is showing 10gb/12 gb. only 2 gb is free.
