I'm using aokp 4.0.4 but it happens on miui v4 as well as cmiui.
The phone shoots up to like 40c+ in ten minutes while just the screen is on. It never did this before i installed miui. I flashed back to stock + root and back but it hasn't changed.

How old is battery? could be just one of those strange circumstances and its time for a new one. Try OneClick back to stock, see if it still happens. If so.....grab a new one (or 2) from Amazon!
about three months old.
cpu problem? try checking it with apps called betterbatterystats on playstore
okay so it's not the battery that is heating up. its the antenna. I'm gonna try airplane mode.

I've had the same problem for a long time, mostly when the phone is charging it and I'm using it at the same time. It hasn't caused any major problems though.

Does anyone know why my phone is resetting the battery stats after every reboot? When it reboots, battery use starts at 0 seconds as if it was unplugged from the charger.
Thanks in advance

I've read people that it works like stock. I remember it used to work on my phone a while back, but a couple of months ago it stopped working. I haven't found a solution for this yet.
Someone told me it was something to do with the recovery but I didn't understand and he did not reply back.
I don't think it is too important, but it would be nice if it work like it should.
Alright so I thought my battery was draining due to the backlight (it would show 40%-60% use), now it's it's doing it from the Android OS. All this happens even when I'm not using the phone and it's never done the Android OS thing before. Any suggestions or ideas on why it's doing it would be greatly appreciated

What ROM & kernel are you using? Also, someone mentioned the BetterBatteryStats app can show you what, exactly, is using the battery. It's $2.89 in Google Play.

I'm using Erik's SCOM and bhuden's kernel (the new version)
Weird thing now it went to the display being used and I haven't used my phone since I posted this question. It went from 76% to 45% within that time frame

Yeah, a few people are seeing the battery drain since installing Bryan's latest kernel. I have that issue, too. Bryan said in his kernel thread that it's beta & right now he's working on stability more so than anything else. I like this kernel as my phone had the random reboot issue. I'm ok with the battery drain trade-off for now. You could fall back to a previous version of the kernel & the battery issue should stop.

Yea I haven't had a reboot yet since flashing it. Ugh damn custom stuff lol jk. At least that narrows it down, thank you tho for pointing that out and FB thanks for the link. I guess I'll just deal with it, now that I know where it's coming from

Try going back to rc3 kernel as it does have bln working and if I read correctly doesn't have the fix that is causing the drain

I've been having issues where google services is using 70% +. I've froze the aps in the service calendar sync, network location extra and now is slowly going down in percentage. I'm using valhala final, went from the newest kernel to rc 3 and modems kj6 to kd1, and now ki3.any thoughts?

I'm down to 45% for google services.. What would be an extension of that service a kernel or modem to make it run so heavy?

I had severe battery drain when I first put on the unnamed ROM. Seems like a fixall, but I did the Gremlin remover thing and the problem went away.
This has been an issue for a long while but its frequency seems to have increased now. Basically it happens randomly and only if picture is taken with flash. I have experienced it on both stock jelly bean ROM and cm10. I don't remember it being an issue on ICS or GB. My phone is not over clocked and the issue does not seem to be affected by kernel.
My gf also has a nexus S and same thing happens with her. We both have the i9023. Her phone is completely stock and not rooted.
This problem is also not limited to the stock camera app as I have experienced it with camera zoom fx as well.
Anyone else with the problem? Do you think its a potentially hardware issue with nexus S?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
I think your problem has something to do with your batter. This is my theory because whenever you try to take a picture with flash on a faulty, or non-calibrated 3rd party batter, the phone shuts off. Try this: take out the batter, plug your phone in to AC, and take a photo with flash. Let me know what happens

What is a third party batter? I am not using any "third party" thing. :S
And this problem isnt easy to reproduce since it doesnt always happen. It just randomly happens and I can go on taking several pictures with flash without a problem. Actually what I have noticed is that it will happen on the first or second click in a session or it wont happen. If the phone shuts off and upon reboot I immediately take a pic with flash then it will shut down again but if I give it a break then it wont.
Yeah, the same thing here. Must be a 4.2.1 issue. Happened to me on 2 different roms. I never take that many photos, but happened a week or so and didn't think about it. But today needed the flash for Christmas pictures and every time I used the flash the phone shut off and I had to power back up. What rom are you on?

I am running cm10 stable right now. This is a jelly bean issue I think and I dunno why its not reported enough because its quite a major issue if you ask me. Nothing more embarrassing than that happening in front of friends.

Thats not happened with me so far.
It's the cheap battery
My phone switches off when I take picture with flash but only if I'm using the cheap battery which i ordered with spare charger. Tried the cheap battery with my brother's note 4 and it happens every time. It never have or has happened with original battery. This is one of the tests for a new battery.
My phone's battery indicator always remain at 100% regardless of rom. I flashed rooted stock froyo, gingerbread, cm7, cm10.1, weapong2x, mokeos, unrooted stock, literarily everything yet the battery stays at 100%. I tried wiping battery stats in cwm, using battery calibration app, everything! Please help! :banghead:

Might be a dying battery. Is it stock or aftermarket? And have you tried running it down until it's completely dead?

Stock battery that came with the phone when I got it last year and yep, I tried playing games with it until the phone died. Left the phone charging for about a day, unplug, turn on and it stays at 100% still

Try to reset the battery by doing at least three discharge cycles. Also never run the battery dry.

What do you need help with? I solved this by reflashing but also by flashing other roms and tried which worked. Only temasek's rom and cm7 worked for me
Hey guys I have been having a pretty serious issue the last couple of days. Was running a CM 10 teamchopsticks nightly from a few weeks ago, which worked perfectly up until three days ago. Then it started crashing randomly, the screen would go black and it would vibrate every few seconds, a battery pull would fix it. I updated the phone to the latest nightly, and now I can't run the phone for 5 minutes without the same type of crash. When I battery pulled and tried to turn on the phone, it would immediately crash about 4/5 of the time. This bug is rendering my phone unusable. Not sure whether this is a Rom issue or something else, thanks in advance.
Not sure what kernel I am running.
Hearing it may be a hardware issue, anyone agree?
Could be, try to odin stock jb or ics. If you still have the problem then it's probably hardware. Unfortunately the rocket is getting old. I'm having some old age problems with mine too. Mostly stuck power button.

I don't Think you have it. Take your battery out and then put it back in. If it boots at that point then that's a sign that you probably do. Or if you try to try to power off you phone but it reboots then that's another sign

Could be a stick power button then, that's almost a sure sign. Mine is intermittent. Some times it's ok, others not not.
