[Q] Killing O3D - LG Optimus 3D

Hi,
I've already loosed my patience for LG. Today I've sent phone 4 time for warranty, including one software problem.
I'll just want to kill a phone completely so they send me a new one.
The question is, how to do it right? May i run stability tests since CPU will fry? Maybe you have other solutions? Killing memory chip?
Regards,

Still i'm O3D owner since 07.2011 and we all know problems it have since release (GHOST CALLS). I'm really think about getting this thing killed and sending it to LG repair center for exchange to other phone. Not to mention that I received phone yesterday and today it was sent back to repair (LG technicians damaged volume rocker).
Any ideas how to make phone unusable and still have warranty?

Overclocking is out of questions since they check the update counter. Samsung ones are pretty obvious but LG is very good at hiding things.

Exactly. it's a standard protection practices, also common in PowerPC and x86 processors, which they trip at 80 to 100 Celsius - close to the boiling point of the water.

I already had a MB replaced month after purchase. I've was using CM7 then and internal memory just died, still I was able to go into recovery or flash a different rom.
Maybe I've stated it wrong, the phone need to be broken, so not exactly a MB or so. Maybe a charging output, mini-jack (just repaired 2 days ago), mic - whatever. It will be a 3 hardware repair, and then I'll be allowed to ask for new phone (Nexus maybe).

Easiest way is to pour water on it for 5-10 seconds turned on since there is electricity I dont know if it safe do it more I never tried it so im just guessing Then Just pull it out Dont dry it completly just wipe it little bit with towel and use it,dont turn it off. just use it phone parts should die if only screen dies then get to the motherboard and cut some cable lol. I dont know why Im helping you thats too brutal but it will work for sure

It may work, but who know if there's humidity sticker inside the phone, the water sensitive sticker's useless anyways. And the most likely worst scenario would be for the flash chip to erase itself.

I'm still waiting for the phone to back from service. Maybe i will just play with mini-jack again. Plugging headphones and moving jack inside should damage stick points, of course i'll make gentle moves. Or.... CM Flashlight set on maximum brightness can damage camera LED?
I just received answer form LG, any hardware repair is counted as significant one and will allow replacement of the phone (at least I'll be able to ask for that.

I spilled Ice tea over my phone today and im trying to save it but anyways here is little story that Im made me believe for water destroying chips When I was young I took my dog and hold it above my brothers electric piano and I wanted him to play lol. but My dog got scared a little bit so It did little pee on the keys. I turned it off and took it out if electricity and took something to dry it off but everything inside boiled anyway.

When you send it the gourth time in garantee you have the right to get a new phone or to get back your money. Iam from germany and for us it works like this, before i had for.my girlfriend an optimus 4x after 3 times of sending it in garanteen i wanted my money back, without problems i had my money back. Now i bought an note 2. Try to get your money back hope the best for you

That's it! I'll pee on my phone!
Still waiting for phone. I will probably start with moving headphones in mini-jack back and forth. Other than that, CM and "full power" flashlight.
On the other side I can just count on LG, maybe they send me a damaged phone as last time.

heat from bottom of phone - 44 degree temp

i havebeen using my phone for the last couple of hours to listen to music and do a bit of surfing whilst bored at work ... the temp has got upto 44 degree's , its not plugged in charging .... is this normal ??
the heat seems to come from the bottom of the phone .....
ive had some hot phones but this is ridiculous - htc really need to sort this before our phones ... excuse the pun burn out !
what temps have your phones got to ?? is 44 degree's ok or is it too high
i dont want to turn the phone screen off every time i use it for a while just to cool the damn thing down.
What phone are you using. I have n HD7 that gets really hot. I mean really if it wasn't for the development on HTC devices no one would be buying them. The build quality is poor from the processor to the display to the housing. That's why Samsung is a trusted manufacturer but lacks development its truly their only flaw.

dude he is clearly using a htc sensation i mean he is in the sensation forum from your response do you even have a sensation and yes its normal for awhile but it stops eventually
I use" Battery Indicator " app and i chill usually at 32-34C.. just played one level of plants vs zombies and im at 42C kinda ridic if u ask me i usually put it down at 41C or beyond to let it cool down
Yep using sensation - the heat is crazy .... ill try the app
how long do i have to put up with this heat before it settles ???
the temp doesnt seem to come from the battery as it radiates at the bottom
i cant believe htc released a phone which causes so much heat - will a firmware release sort it ?? i wonder

Cool it man I'm using the xda app for android and it doesn't exactly tell you where you are unless you navigate there yourself. Also don't ask me why and how I got here I just saw an interesting topic an decided to add my 2 sense. Had a sensation and it crapped out on me within 3 hours. Got a second one same thing after 3 days it crapped out to.

well today mine got up to 44 but that was my fault. i always take the case off when charging it and i forgot to do it. also i was using it during this.
the case reduces heat dissipation. as soon as took off the case it went down to 38.
so i recommend that if you have a case on your phone and you see or feel that is getting too hot, take off the case.
I wouldn't want to say it's normal however I've had at least 3 sensations that were hitting around 43 to 45deg C just on battery while using Google Maps or browsing the web. The reps (all three working at the time) in the store found it strange that the phone was getting so hot just to the touch.
May have to underclock our devices like the iPhone. shouldn't be much of a difference considering it has a dual core processor right?

The most important isnt the Frequency, the most important is the voltage in the processor...
On SGSII, you have practically the same voltage at 1.2Ghz than 1Ghz or 800Mhz...
So i think is the same on Sensation... lower voltages, or you never get decent temperatures.
Am I being to simple here or is it just the fact so much tech is in the handsets now that it will obviously get hot? I would of thought this is the norm for phones nowadays and without sticking a fan on the back there is nothing that can be done?
Can we compare this to a PC? What temp do processors run at on a PC, and is there a limit before they lag or fail?

You cannot compare a smartphone to a PC, due the pc have an active cooling, and an smartphone have a passive one...
So, the smartphone will get more hot than a PC.
This temps are good, but think this components are more delicated than a pc, so the temperature isn't good for her life.
Played 15min of asphalt hd and the phone got very hot. I took off the back cover off to investigate and noticed the microsd is located at the bottom of the phone. The microsd was untouchable. Hope the device heat will not damage it.
All HTC devices have inbuilt thermal protection. If the phone gets too hot it will shutdown and/or reboot.

Mine got up to 52C while outside using the GPS Saturday.
i think the highest mine has got is around 115deg. (around 46C). this is rediculous i think since it only happens when i play a game for like 20 min..browsing the web reaches around 107 sometimes. but im past my 2 week remorse period so i cant return/exchange the phone at t-mobile, dont know what to do since some ppl say this is normal for being a dual core and wut not, but then not everyone has these overheating issues

is there any way to access the internal sd card and remove it?

My mt4gs ended up bricking itself one day during a charge. won't turn on...tried every method to turn it on. Concluded that it's hard bricked. Only thing it does (every once in a while), is give me a dim red light in the trackpad. in summary, phone's dead.
One Problem:
I have crucial info stored in the phone's internal memory. I'm willing to sacrifice the phone (and any chance to unbrick it) simply for the data. is there any way I could open up the phone and access the internal SD card and remove it? Does it even use an actual SD card for internal memory? Anyone know? Thanks
im guessing the mt4gs uses emmc. is there any way to pull data off the emmc? even though a phone is bricked
the only thing I can think of is if someone has jtag knowledge and also knows where to make the connections. not even sure if you could pull info from the nand or if you can only write. this isn't the same as a computer harddrive and getting info of a dead flash device is trick (as far as I know)
id suggest googling to see if someone local has the ability. hey who knows, maybe there is someone who could restore your phone as well

Funny you should make such a thread...just had something very similar happen to my original doubleshot.
Was playing netflix out to tv, wasn't watching at the time my back was turned, and it just shut off and won't turn on.
Was at full charge, and swapped through 6 different fully charged batteries and couldn't get it to turn on...just a dim light in the trackpad, solid...no flashes.
I left it behind me, i am in long island, new york city this week putting it back together...so leaving things like the doubleshot behind was at the expense of things like the 14 gallons of gas in cans i'm carrying or the wealth of first aid supplies, so be a week bare minimum before i can get back to it.

Thanks, good times. I have a ton of first aid training, more tools then I know what to do with and a couple grand invested in 18volt batteries, so I can run my tools for days without power. Nothing like being able to cut a whole house apart while the power is out. ...and I like to be helpful.
Back on topic, though, I wish I knew what happened to my doubleshot. It just died out of the clear blue, was running fine until the moment it wasn't.
I haven't tried to plug it into a computer yet to see what I can see, but I remember seeing a whole lot of info on connecting to it and talking to the radio direct through linux pre-boot, so i'll exhaust all software avenues before disassembly.
I am well out of warranty now, since it's the one I got at device launch, so I do think taking it apart will be in my near future. Definitely gonna take a lot of pics on that.
As that ds was my first android cellular device, haven't had something like this happen before. Definitely gonna cripple my devving if I can't get it running again. Devving with two of the same device and seeing differences in real time in front of you is like the first time you hook up a second konitor to a computer. You just can't accurately articulate how much more productive you can be.
Definitely appreciate any tidbits of knowledge anyone can drop here to give a leg up when I can get back to it.

[Q] Oven QuickFix – Will it work for Nexus S?

Hello.
So it came. My Nexus S betrayed me. I started getting random "inabilities" to boot my phone. It was rather not booting than booting. The phone was booting like 1 out of 10 times (stuck at Google Logo). Suddenly I found out that applying pressure to the back of the phone (to the SIM card slot area) while pressing the power button solves the issue. At least temporarily.
The conclusion I came to is the following: Given this information (applying pressure) I came to the conclusion, that the soldered-on storage chip is not so soldered-on.
What about this: If oven-baking our laptops can repair them, is it possible to fix my Nexus as well? That is the question for you, guys! Will it take the heat? Can some components fall off the board when heated? Or get burn? If so, can I apply heat directly on that damn chip? That is the metaquestion!
Thanks in advance!
How can you fix a laptop by putting it in the oven dude ? Are you serious ? Ive never heard of that. Ever.
And i can't encourage you that this is a good idea cus it doesn't sound good.

Here you go.

And you're welcome eventually
I would rather use a proper heatgun and try to heat the place little bit while isolating rest of the "working" parts.
But honest advice, spare yourself the trouble of disasembling everything and start saving for new phone :/

Awkward solution. Anyway i think that the device itself cant handle 385°…

Maybe I could take aluminum tape and create rectangle around the chip, then heatgun the chip. That should work…

Oven quickfix does indeed work. I once repaired a HP nx7000 by disassambling the NB and put the motherboard into the oven. Worked like a charm afterwards.

I found out that my coleague has a heatgun and his friend even has a machine for this (reballing stuff I would guess).
It is, however, good to know, that I'm not lost once I find out I'm out of RMA period. I *THINK* my phone does does have a valid warranty BUT I'm not quite sure I can find my papers and get to the store soon enough. It's indeed good to have a backup…
Go for the heatgun if possible. A lot of the parts on phone are extremely heat sensitive unlike larger hardware and you would likely end up damaging something else rather than just fixing the storage. Have put back to life quite a few devices using a heatgun and proper shielding, mainly xbox 360, video cards and other random peripherals.
Still would save for a new phone though, because it's likely it might die completely on you in the close future.

[Q] SK4G drains fast...Too fast. And SD card Module probably damaged

I need a bit of help concerning the SK4G sd card reader: This phone may take quite a few drops and scratches, but the SD reader doesn't seem able to. If i drop my phone just the right way, the sd card seems to malfunction and certain stuff crashes. The thing is, my sd card is just fine. Tested it multiple times. I can take it out, wait a few seconds, put it back and reboot til it works. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY PHONE? PS: I think some part of my phone that reads the battery is fried. I get rediculous battery drain, like 1 percent gone every minute. This isnt normal, is it? Any insght solutions or help would be appreciated.

No, it's not normal. How old is the battery on your phone? Is it bulging out at all anywhere? It could be in need of replacement. Also, which ROM are you using? Maybe something got corrupted or didn't load correctly? Fishing a bit...
I would be aware of the rom being used as already said. Try out a battery calibrating app.
As for the SD card, is it partitioned? If so maybe that could be affecting it oddly. Just some ideas, hopefully it isn't hardware /:

I've seen this effect on stock and on every other rom I've tried. The Sidekick was a gift from an uncle, so I'm not sure what he did to it....nevertheless, the battery is reported by most battery apps as "good". The battery is not bulging, and it charges. I'm guessing its hardware; I just hope I can afford to fix it.

Nope sd card not partitioned, rom seems fully loaded, its GloriousOverdosev5 although I do have some issues with it not related to battery.
Is there anyone here on this forum who could make sense of the inner circuitry of my phone and see if there is something wrong here? I could take my phone apart (maybe).

That's one of the biggest issues with every single device in the Sidekick series of phones. When it comes to chargers they have always been "finicky". I'm pretty sure it has to do with wattage, but it's a problem that has stayed consistant.

True-true I personally would jump for the s4. I like the idea of a waterproof phone, because lets face it, we may not all send our devices toilet-bound but rain and spills are just things that happen. Heck I'd test it myself xD I'm curious exactly what extent this can be used in water...(underwater? ;D) But yeah, I would definitely take the s4
Whoa! The s4 is waterproof?
I suppose it could be battery messing with things, maybe I could carry a spare and avoid dropping this
If sidekicks will continue, tmo had better learn from thier mistakes or this will be like the 4g

Yesterday I yanked out my battery because of a critical crash after binge web browsing - the battery was at 34 percent but after rebooting it was at less than 10!
This morning I tried to balance my phone on a perch 4 ft off the ground and it fell. Stright on its back. Next thing I know, its crash-booting and I have to yank out, put batt back in turn on and hope SD comes back on. Now I turn it on and SD was working until i accidentally just unplugg it and it booted into charge mode and batt has 1 percent, even though I know its supposed to have like TWENTY percent.
Any way, I have it in charge mode at like 1 percent and I'm trying to turn it back on by accident just well turn it right back to charge mode (you know what I mean right)
and when it starts charging again the battery level is 20 percent. TWENTY!!!!!!!! UGH I CANT STAND THIS THING GOD GIVE ME PATIENCE TIL I GET GINGERBREAD

Definitely not right. Take it back for a replacement.
Finally got the phone exchanged with T-Mobile, new one works fine but man does it get hot. I've had warm phones before but this one, especially during setup got so hot that I was worried about something internally melting. I actually shut it down till it cooled off then finished setting it up. I think whatever thermal throttling LG has setup for the phone is not conservative enough. I read where others have had concerns over the temperature this phone runs at and now understand those concerns. Heat is an electronics device enemy, this phone under setup or heavy use has a lot of them.
Most modern phones get hot now. Samsung Galaxy get so hot you can barely touch them when GPS is running. While I love the features these phones have, I'd sacrifice some screen resolution for better battery life and performance. Why we need quad HD screens this small I'll never know.

My V10 gets hot fast, even when just downloading or updating apps. My G5 doesn't get too warm really at all. It depends on the phone you get I guess. It sucks. A lot of people said their V10 didn't get hot, but here mine does. I guess it's just what you end up with. I WISH they all came the same or that companies would do a little more quality control. I've returned a lot of devices in the past for different problems but it seems there is never a "perfect" one.

Anyone experienced this? Phones just out the box, got my apps installed and was testing the phone out. Screen splits and looks like it's overheating. Assuming it will have to go back for an exchange.

Mine got the same issue after 4 months of having it. I have a rooted phone, so i can forget about t-mobile replacement. Any idea if it is a hardware or software thing? Should i get a replacement display?
Thanks

I would put the phone back to stock. Call T-Mobile and tell them what happened, I've exchanged Samsung phones that have been rooted and tho I've flashed back to stock knox was tripped and they have never said a word about it. It's clearly a hardware issue and rooting it can't cause that, I can't say if it's policy or not but T-Mobile has always been fair with me, I imagine if the issue was in somehow related to rooting they might say something but haven't ever with me, it's always been hardware so I can't say.
Here's what happened with mine
Called them, told them what's happening and I had to pay $20 for the exchange. I had ordered mine by phone so that's the route I had to take, they mailed a new one to my local store, I went to pick it up and they inspected my original phone for cracked screen, water damage or signs of abuse, they never even turned it on to check bootloader or anything. We swapped phones and I was on my way.
This should help you also, when I originally called in the rep asked if I could send him some pictures of the phone so he could put it on file should this become an issue, which I did. I sent numerous pictures and screenshots so hopefully the next in line doesn't have any issues.
@Ducter I'll give it a try. Thanks buddy.
Lost my T-mobile G5 to the dreaded screen tear just 2 days into owning it. I'm in Canada though so I'm probably screwed for a replacement.
How to fix LG G5 Screen Split issue using Heatgun.
Disassemble LG G5 using the link below.

Disconnect the Wifi Cable (Black One), Rear Camera, Front Camera.
Now with just the logic board, place it on a surface that won't melt.
It should look like the picture below. Warning don't take off anything else

Turn on your heatgun and apply left right motion only concentrating on the cpu metal plate for around 15 seconds.
Do the same thing on the opposite side of the cpu plate.
Let it cool down for around 10 minutes.
Put it back together and it should work.
I did it atleast four times, first time it worked but failed after few minutes.
Second and third time was not working at all.
The fourth time I did it, it was working.
It's been a while and it still going.

****please disregard. Figured it out. Looks like six screws holding in the logic board also.
Thanks for sharing. I went to the original post and thanked there also.
I'm stuck trying to remove the logic board. I can see how the front camera comes off very easily. I can't find anything that looks like a black cable for wifi. Also can't figure out how to remove the rear camera. Any pointers?
Thank you in advance.
