I really hope this is not a stupid question. I have looked around here and although I have searched some of other posts, I have not found an answer. I am certain part of the issue is that I am not a techie expert when it comes to phones/android/hotspots.
I will be working in a remote area where the only cell service is ATT. I do not know if it will be for 30 days of 6 months as of yet. Outside of satellite internet which is cost prohibitive for my need ($$ upfront with contract, etc), there are no other options in the area. I use ST for my ATT service.
I need to enable mobile hotspot on my Inspire 4g phone but can not do so because it is an ATT phone (I own) and ST apparently can not allow me to do this. I am not looking to stream movies or TV, just the ability to use a couple of wireless devices to surf the web read email (on a screen I can read from) for the duration.
Do I have to root my phone to do this? I have read the forum posts about this and despite all the assurances that this is simple, trust me it is no where near that for someone like me.....
Thoughts?
Yes, you need to root your phone to tether. Easy Ace Root Tool can probably help.
Is there someone out there I can send the phone to that can root it for me?
I tried right after I got the phone (when it first came out) and "bricked" it and ended up having to get another. Like I said I have read through the instructions and they couldn't be more confusing as far as I am concerned. I would just as soon pay someone to do it for me.
Thanks.....

You could always check with your local shops. I personally don't know of any places that perform root services.

Current area rural (population ~6000) with cable internet. Future area makes rural look metropolis (population me).
If anyone out there knows where I can ship my phone to to get it properly rooted, it would be appreciated. Just let me know what it will cost and I will UPS or FedEx or USPS it there and give a few bucks extra to cover the trip back.
Thanks.....

Did you buy your phone from AT&T? If so, then just send it to them. Alternatively, you could google something like "repair +screen +Tilt". I'll let you know if I find something.

Here is a place. I would recommend trying to find somewhere local to you to have it done though. (a local walk in shop) (for speed and security)
I don't know where you live, but I've actually walked my phone into these guys twice. The work is impeccable.

I'm Matt from Mobile Device Repair and wanted to say thanks to joel2009 for pointing us out to people. Just an FYI, we recently changed our name to Jet City Devices and I wanted to make sure people were aware of that in case they clicked on the link provided for Mobile Device Repair and end up on different site. Or you can go directly by clicking on the following link:

Just to keep people up to date.
I apologize if this has been asked before, but I am in a hurry to get a straight answer on this.
Is there any way to track a cell phones location by just knowing the cell number. My niece ran away yesterday with some other kid her age and they are planning to leave the state they live in. We reported the case to the police but they are treating it as a runaway case and not a missing person case, so they are no doing much. I know cell phones can be tracked through the 911 services now, but is there any other way legally or a hack of some sort to track a person by calling or sending them a message.
It is rumored that my niece is going to mexico which is not really an ideal place for a 16 yo girl, so you can understand why I am concerned.
good luck... and its a run away, shes not missing or kidnapped, and maybe she likes tacos?... but no, you cant do more than the police... plus you didnt even say what phone she has
Thanks for correcting my punctuation, cuz thats what I really needed. Maybe some one else a little mature can provide some helpful info.
Okay we spoke to the phone company which is pocket wireless in Texas. They told us that the phone's location could not be triangulated because they just cant do that. I was under the impression that all cell phones were mandated to be able to be tracked or at least triangulate their approximate position for emergency purposes. Some one please correct me if I am wrong.

Ouch. You should sue them. Tell em off or something. & I don't think its possible. I had my cliq stolen and they didn't.even raise a pinky in trying to find it. Tmobile btw. And you should warn a sherrif they seem more understandable than a waste of a costume you call an officer.

Depending on what phone she has they my not be able to track it. But almost all new phones have. Gps in them now. I got carjacked at gunpoint and left my phone in my truck and the police were able to triangulate it after some b.s. paperwork giving them permission to do so.
Had my truck back and intact within a couple hours. If I was you I would be at the police station harassing them to do it until they locked me up/threw me out or got off their asses nd did it.

I figured it would be due to laziness. I spoke to a couple people in law enforcement and they said it can be done but its whether the police want to mess with it or not. I guess since it's not one of their family members, they dont want to bother with it.

Good luck with that..!
I was at the gym yesterday and apparently I might have left it there by mistake, I went to the htc sense site to track it down but apparently they 'renovated it' and now you can't track it! Is there any way I can track it down after its lost (or stolen I guess)?
I downloaded Plan B but apparently it didn't install correctly or something because I didnt get any email yet (probably since there isn't any wifi where the phone is)
Quite a stupid move from htc to shut down such a good feature like that :/
Sorry for your loss, that really sucks dude. HTC did warn people they were going to remove that feature a couple of months ago. I rather liked it as well. The only other thing I can think of right now is, try having your service provider track it down using the phones gps. Sometimes it works. Good luck.

Well Im gonna go to the police station tomorrow, they SHOULD be able to track it down, but I highly doubt their efficiency -.-'
Thanks mate : ) Also, from now onwards, I'm installing Prey on every device I own!
Uh the police won't find ****. Call your carrier and find out the insurance company if sprint or Verizon its asurion or similar. I hope ya got insurance I don't think $6 a month is bad.

Vodafone doesn't track phones where I live, only the police do that. They are successful (sometimes) but not in my past cases haha.
Oh well, we'll see what'll happen.

Really? By saying lost I was being polite. If I really just lost it at the gym it would be on the machine where I left it on, which it wasn't the next day. Whoever took it took off the sim card cos it wont dial and I had it charged an hour before gym so the battery should still be working.
So yes, still think its just 'lost'?

You left it somewhere, someone picked it up, YOUR FAULT! It's not stolen and whoever has it would not be prosecuted for picking it up. Maybe you should pay more attention to your $500 piece of technical equipment. Only a truly entitled person would believe that the police should take time away from investigating murders, kidnappings, and assaults, to find their phone. Is your phone that important? Is this what you are telling us?

Maybe he should pay more attention but you cannot say it is his fault somebody took it and didn't give it to the gyms reception or to the police. I would do so if I found something lost. In my opinion they should track it because stealing is a crime too, isn't it.

Maybe you're lucky. As I heard HTC maintainances the HTC Sense website at the moment. But if the thief is smart enough he knows he could easyly reset the phone and you cannot track it anymore. Did you write to the support about your problem?

Indeed I did, well I had a custom rom so maybe he'd find it difficult due to the different drivers that might not be compatible with what he's used to. Also, I contacted support and they said the phone can be 'locked' if I give them the IMEI and Serial Number, which I did. lets see what will happen!

Wouldn't the phone just be locked out? I'm also curious... if it was used in a different country/provider, would it work? I would assume it'd work since the chances of your provider blocking the IMEI in the entire earth would be unlikely! If so, the answers seem pretty straightforward as to what will happen lol. Either it'll get sold or just not be usable!

Nono HTC told me they will block the phone themselves, so apparently it should be unusable worldwide I hope!
If it is in the wrong hands then it has probably been torn down and used for parts at this point. It's become a growing trend around here with lots of aftermarket repair companies getting busted for being nothing more than chop shops...
Well, here's what they said after giving them my IMEI number
"Dear sir again, we are really sorry for what happened with your device and we apologize for the inconvenience regarding HTCSense functionality. We will enter your data in our system, and we will list your device as stolen one. As soon as somebody tries to contact us with this data we will notify the authorities.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. "
(I hope this is the right forum to ask this in) Alrighty everyone first off I have no hope of saving this thing and I have no intention to do so. So from here what do I do. I have an LG optimus L9, T-Mobile is my carrier and I have the Jump plan offered by them. Im in need of a phone (who isnt now a days) So it looks like I have a couple options...call them...tell them I lost the phone see what happens from there. Or tell them there was a hardware error (Both of these options are covered by the Jump plan) I dont know if they check to see if the phone has been rooted if I sent it in because that would probably void everything. Or I could try and upgrade phones to a different one. The main thing is I was making payments on this phone and don't know what to do with that. I only want to be paying one phone off. Thank you very much for reading through all this, if you have any suggestions on what to do please let me know!

Thought about getting it repaired by a technician? Just google for it. If you give it to your carrier they'll mind you or someone have modified it. I really can't advice you telling 'em you lost it, cause that was criminal acting i suppose.

I couldn't reach support. Open a few tickets but nobody contact me. I reach them via chat but they said me phone is blacklisted and a lot of "mother ****er, **** off, etc". They don't give me money back.
They give guarantee theandroiddoctor_com/imei-guarantee

I can send a lot of screenshot from my unlocked phone. Why I'm so ungry for $15. I lost totaly $500 for this phone. So $15 is not important for me. I can paid another $15 for permanent unlock my phone.
If you are theandroiddoctor person, you should explain the all process. Why technician close the session after unlock process without my test result. Nobody answer me, nobody answer my support request.
All time they use bad words and their behaviour is not fair.

Because they aren't a true professional shop, they are someone that does this from their home. They don't care about whether your phone works, they only care about getting paid and they didn't do the right thing because they didn't want to pay for messing your device up because they don't have a true business like a true professional would.
That's what you get for trying to save money to get it done and trusting someone that you found on the internet instead of taking your device to a trusted and reputable professional shop, you get what you pay for, it's your own fault for being stupid enough to trust someone you found online.
You made a bad decision and now you're paying the price, get over it, move on and learn a lesson from it. Posting here isn't changing anything.

Regarding the Note 5, the phone can be restored to factory conditions by downloading Samsung Kies. Once downloaded fire up the software, select "tools" followed by "firmware upgrade and initialisation". Then connect your phone and the software will download all the necessary files, including the latest updates. I know this because they screwed my phone's IMEI during a unlock process, probably hoping they would squeeze more money out of me for a IMEI repair. Kies solved my IMEI problem, and their unlock wasn't affected by the Kies update (their unlock worked). These are unsavoury people who had access to my computer and phone while they carried out their half a job. Hindsight is a wonderful thing....
