GDR 2, Bricked my HTC8x
MS/HTC and their crappy implementation of updates.
Not sure if this is MS or HTC fault, I got an update on my HTC8x, I am from India so its not carrier locked.
One moment i downloaded the update on wifi, and after that my phone never started, it always gets stuck at 2 gears screen for ever, i let the phone totally discharge, but that dint help either, even if i recharge i get back to same old 2 rotating gears screen.
Gave it finally to a service center who had no clue and is blaming motherboard problems-guess it is HTC's equal of Microsoft saying please reboot.
I am very disappointed with HTC, they should have pushed their firmware well i advance of MS's GDR 2 update.
Anyone facing similar issues after GDR2 update?
Two gears
Yep! I have exactly that problem after attempting to install the GDR2 update. Gets stuck at two gears screen, and no way to hard reset it seems. I can also get the white screen with the serial number etc., and USB or SERIAL showing up at the bottom of the screen depending on what the data cable is attached to. I don't know what else to do. There must be a way. I'm gonna get on the line with HTC support and ask them what they have to say.

My phone is useless it doesnt turn on and i cannot get it to connect on my pc i can only connect it via the omap4430 driver but that keeps conecting and disconecting all the time.. So when i connect it ti the LG's Official program it says no device found and won't continue i think i have managed to brick it will think twice before using cm7 next time....
lg
its worth keep trying cos I did just the same yesterday. I had to uninstall all the LG stuff completely. I then installed it again from scratch (making sure I didn't have that roll back to version 8 fix running). I downloaded the driver with no phone plugged in. I had to plug my LG in with no battery and plugged in whilst holding vol up and power button (it still wasn't detected). Although no driver came up, when I used the recover phone emergency facility in LG it asked me for the IMEI number. I typed it in and it then found the phone and I was able to recover completely. Sorry if you've done all this already but I had lots of gos and it finally worked as I have just stated. I hope this is of some help to you, I'm not an expert but it worked for me.

One time i connected it it said downloading and it lasted a minute and a half before it said fatal error...
Once again, had a quick look through the forum and you can definitely resurrect your phone like this, the pc does not need to see a driver the lg software recovery package will pick it up. Let me know if you have any problems.

if you can't go to recovery then the phone needs to be sent to LG unfortunately,
couple other users had the same issue and they had to send the phone for service.

Broken power button maybe?...
My power button died - without that button working you can't power up the phone, go to recovery or connect to PC with LG software.
Does your phone light up when plugging into charger? If it does but doesn't actually boot...you may have a faulty and/or broken power button.
If you are in Australia, Evertec (VIC) do the repairs - including postage it took 5 working days to be repaired

The power button is fine cuz when i hold power and vol up it tries to connect itself via its omap4430 driver if the power button was broken it wouldn't do that i just know i bricked it when i replaced my card from a 16gb to 32 gb i tried putting my card back still it won't turn on.. Hi all can someone tell what problem did my phone have yesterday my phone restart alone and stuck on lg boot logo i have mango 7.5 on but i dont now what i need to do i love this phone.help
Pls tell me if is hardware problem or software or my firmware is dead
I dont whant to spend money with service
Could be either, what i would do is pull the battery out first and leave it out for 10 min. Turn it on and see what it does. If it still does not work try a hard reset. Turn the phone off, hold volume up and down and the power button at the same time for like 5 seconds and then release and follow the prompts. If that does not work i would say its hardware.
Pull the battery, put it back on and plug it to the pc while turned off. Try this, it may help. Otherwise you can try and see if Zune detects the phone while looping, if it does you can try to roll back to the previous firmware.

If you've tried all the other suggestions and have no results, you may be forced into the "nuclear option". Download the firmware from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935605 and put into emergency download (slide keyboard open, hold the space bar while pressing the power button). You'll also need to download the LG flashing tool. Use this tutorial as a guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935605
Hope everything works out for you.

Hi guys,
I got a DS down, but finally, after research, I wonder if it is not simply bricked.
The guy who I recovered from told me after an exchange of large files via Bluetooth between the tablet and DS, this one was completely blocked until turn off.
Since then, it has never turned back. But now that I have connected it to the PC or charger, the indicator (orange) battery lights up.
This is a good sign? or nothing to do?
Thank you for your help.

pull the battery out n put back in then press and hold volume down then press and hold power button (so both same time) see what happens. Hopefully it will boot into bootloader
I can't boot in bootloader neither. The phone isn't recognized by my PC, only charging...
Other idea guy ? Or it's really dead ?
PS : Ok I have news. When I go out and return the battery while I press the three buttons (on / off, sound and sound + -), the DS vibrates 5 times, it is also connected to my PC, it now tells me that my battery is fully charged (green indicator).
I also have this message on the PC, which has sought a pilot. And he said finally, no driver has been found.
PS 2 : I follow this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669498 for install this drivers... now i have Echec (= fail)

Im not 100% sure but for the normal htc desire, when the phone vibrates 7 times, its means hardware failure and only shop can fix or get a new motherboard. So im guessing that the 5 vibrations for the desire s means the same thing. Sorry.
This is a known problem; google "qhsusb_dload". Unfortunately, I have never seen this with a Desire S before so I wouldn't know what to do...

PS : Definitely dead, solved !
I've got an unlocked 128GB dual-sim HTC U11 (marking on the back says 2PZC300 U-3u), bought in Taiwan last year but I'm currently using it in Sweden (Europe). Haven't had any major problems up until now, except for some touch screen issues.
This morning I for some reason navigated into the update section of the settings menu, and saw that there was a new update available (I believe it was 2.42.617.1, containing the December Android security updates and "system enhancements"). My phone was not connected to the charger at the time but close to 100% charged and had Wi-Fi access. I downloaded the update and chose to install it. I haven't had any battery issues and it didn't prompt me to plug the phone into a power source.
It proceeded to start the update, but somewhere around 64% it seemed to get stuck for a while, slowly moving to 65% or so after a few minutes. I then left the phone for a while and took a shower. When I came out of the shower the screen was completely black. I left it for a while, but nothing happened. I then tried to long press the power button, but it was still dead.
Now it seems to be completely bricked. Power button does nothing. Volume down plus power button for 2 mins does nothing. Plugging it into the charger does nothing. When I connect it to my Win10 PC using the USB cord it does show up as "COM3" and the driver is "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM3)". It is not recognized by HTC Sync Manager. Feels like I'm in deep ****... And I haven't in any way rooted it or installed anything custom. I'm so disappointed that something like this can even happen.
If anyone here has any ideas I'd be eternally grateful... I'm hoping I won't have to send it in, since that probably means I'll be without the phone for a month or something and probably lose all the data on it (some photos which have not been backed up)... And I'm not even sure if I can send it in here in Sweden. Since it was bought in Taiwan I guess I might have to send it back there.

Thanks for your reply. I just tried removing the SIM card (don't have an SD card) and then attempting to start it normally and attempting to start with power and volume down. Unfortunately no change And it still behaves in the exact same way when connected to the PC (shows up as COM3)... Hi Centrino! Thanks for your reply. Yep, I guess I'll have to send it in. I did try to google a bit and that was the feeling I got as well, that it really is hardbricked and very hard to fix. I wonder if I just happened to hit some very unfortunate circumstances to have this happen or if it's some more widespread bug... Guess we'll see if anyone else sees the same thing during the coming days.

Yep, I'm in Sweden and they didn't charge me anything even though the phone was bought in Taiwan. They did not say what caused the issue, just repaired it and sent it back. Unfortunately I lost all my data. It took a little bit more than a week. The repair center in Europe is located in Poland so I sent it to a Swedish "agent" and they sent it to Poland, considering that the turn-around time was very good.

Wow! Seems like EU HTC customer service and repair center is much more considerate and positive experience than the US counterpart. It's a damn shame. Maybe HTC isn't as big a company in the US and not as popular in the US than it is in China and Asia and even the EU.

I did a quick search on the HTC "Uh Oh" warranty and the U11 is not covered. Oh well.
I am still holding out that the fix for my U11 will not be too complicated and that HTC will have pity for me. Ha! Next week will be 3 weeks since the phone was admitted into the repair center queue. In the meantime I have my new HTC U12+ and I've been using it for the last three days now. I've not toyed with the U12+ and will be keeping stock for now.

I woke up around 1am tonight to a glow from my wifes Zenfone 6. Wondering why I looked at her screen to find the ASUS logo glowing fully bright like It does upon start up.
Thinking this is odd I tried rebooting it but every single button is unresponsive. I tried holding the power button down for around 30 secs, nothing.
My wife wakes up wondering what I'm doing then tells me her phone updated around 11am that day.
So it appears the ASUS pushed update has potentially stuffed her phone?
Her phone is a totally stock ASUS Zenfone 6.
Ideas on fixing? What has happened?

Yes.
I waited for the battery to die and after charging the phone powered up. It lasted 12 hours before suddenly shutting itself down when the wife was changing settings to pull the time from the network.
Now dead as a brick. Charge light no longer lights. Totally unresponsive. No amount of power button/volume button combination or time will do anything to make it work again.
Pretty pissed off as it's 1 year and 16 days old and has already been sent back to ASUS to have the charge port fixed after it stopped working.
I do not know what to do now except push for a repair under warranty.
As a last resort you could try this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-6-2019/how-to/guide-unbricking-zs630kl-t3998767
If that does not work I guess warranty would be the only option left.
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately the phone is totally unresponsive so I have no idea how steps involving any sort of power up can work.
PC also doesn't recognize the phone when plugged in to the USB port.
Could the USB power board have failed again?
If pc can't recognize the phone, you ran out of options. Anyway check device manager on windows just to be sure that it is not recognized as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" device at your Windows devices'. The proper guide to try to fix your state is this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-6-2019/how-to/qdloader-brick-t3980165

There have been issues with few units doing bootloops and not recovering; and Asus had acknowledged it as motherboard issue with the few early units that were made. You could get it to a service centre and get a free motherboard replacement.
Thank you @homerlovesbeer for your description. Very similar to my phone which is now also dead as a brick:
Recover files from bootlooping Zenfone6
Dear all, from the occasional reboot my Zenfone performed every now in a while (which didn't bother me too much) it now reboots so fast that it usually has not yet booted to the point where I could get data off the device before it reboots...

Will send it to repair. I bought it 10 months ago.
EDIT: Small correction: Pressing all 4 buttons while it was plugged to a PC, the charging light lit up for perhaps 20 seconds. Unfortunately not reproducible.
