Hi guys,
I'm new to flashing, and so far I've flashed succesfully CM7 and miUI-Revenge. I sticked with the latter, which I enjoy very much, but it drains the battery at an unparalleled speed. In three hours without data, wifi, of gps, the battery goes from 100% to 50%.
Is there a rom you recommend using for better performance? I assume going up from Gingerbread won't help, but I might be wrong. I guess the opposite of the spectrum might be the barebone rom. Are there other roms in between, that you think might represent a good balance?
Thanks!

Here is the deal it sounds like you had a bad flash or something. Reading your responses in a couple threads leads me to think this. I would use the one click to stock either bhundven or eollie created (eollies give you a cwm without having to flash another file). Then try the ICS and JB variants. CM7 was/is good roms but they are not worked on and could be some hidden bugs that never got fumigated.

You've got some issues. Search the site for Better Battery Stats and find out what is causing those wakelocks. A drop that fast could be a lot of things but my first bet would be media scanner going crazy trying to read a corrupt file on your SD card. Post up some screenies of your battery from settings. Also get CPUspy and see if your getting pegged at a higher frequency.
That's pretty bad. It shouldn't be that bad on anything.

I don't know why, but starting yesterday afternoon it seems it's improving. I don't think I've done anything special, but we'll see. Meanwhile I've installed BBS, which is giving me some issues on Miui, but it's starting to show some drains. I'll look it up with more usage and keep you guys posted.

Unfortunately BBS has issues with Miui, and I keep receiving an error message: "batteryinfo service could not be contacted." I thought I had solved it, but it's still there. I'll try to look up if this can be resolved, but meanwhile if battery stabilize on the actual performance, it would be good as is.

MiUI's a little different than most ROMs. You have to set root permissions from within the settings menu. Then BBS will work. I gave up on MiUI a long time ago so I can't remember exactly where it is. Search the settings and you will find enable root. Click that thing. Reboot. BBS will then tell you all about your wakelocks. Then just research them.

First, sorry for the new thread & odd spot. I looked for 30 minutes to see if I was duplicating a question, but the search function on this app seems to do absolutely nothing. I also can't post in dev, yet; so I hope The Collective checks this forum.
R3velation works great, and looks even better; I'm very happy I gave it a look.
That said, I have 2 issues:
1. The battery drains FAST. Sitting idle with WiFi & Bluetooth turned off, I lose 50% of the charge in 6 hours. I'm still researching how to operate things like the voltage app that came with the ROM, but if anyone has tips I'd love to hear them.
2. The main reason for this post; sometimes when the screen is off, it just won't come back on. The only thing I can find that works is to remove the battery. Any ideas what this might be!?
Thanks to The Collective for this awesome ROM!

Question 2 is a sod which they are working figuring out what is causing it. add for battery drain there is an app on the forums called better battery stats you may have to search for it on a computer to find it because i agree the search on this xda app sucks. But that app will help find the cause of the battery drain

I'm having a major issue with R3V v2 and I need help fixing this ASAP because it is the best ROM I have flashed to date!!!! Everything works like clockwork except data. I can send text messages but any other app that requires a data connection does not work (no network connection). Does this sound like a modem flash error? X- I downloaded the ROM from your sig.
Have you tried re-flashing? I had a similar issue with a different ROM on my tablet. Re-flashing the ROM fixed it.

Yes, I had tried re-flashing the original ROM I had downloaded for Experiments signature. That file might have been faulty? idk. Last night after posting about my issue and not wanting to wait another moment to enjoy this awesome ROM I did some research on XDA and found a post where Nun had a link to download R3V v2 but the file had the letter "F" at the end so I figured it to be a different file. Long story short, a little late for that huh? IT WORKED!! Thanks to the Collective, especially Experiment for this splendid ROM.
I know, right? This ROM is the nicest I've seen for Android, yet. Run R3velation OTA, and look at some of the further mods you can get for it. Under "Themes", there's one called "Mongo Toggles (blue)" by X and Mongo41. It looks VERY sweet. The light amounts of blue mixed with the beautiful toggles for the quick panel are awesome. I need to get in touch with them and ask them to make one that has purple in place of the blue. I'd never need another theme if I had that, heh.
Glad you were able to get up and running.
Did you battery life ever smooth out? There is a typically a period of three days or so where you need to wait for a rom to, "settle" before the battery will calm down. Then it should start acting much better.
The SOD issue is one that has been driven to the point of extinction. I ran R3V for a long time, and had no issues. I am now running another rom, and I am having issues. It's all what your phone likes and doesn't like I think. Good luck figuring it out man.

Thanks for the heads up. I just put the KL2 on the phone, we'll see how that does me.
Maybe it's my imagination, but this modem seems awesome. Battery life seems to have tripled, and I'm not dropping calls at the dead spots in town. What all does the modem cover, just phone & AT&T data? It doesn't handle Bluetooth or WiFi, does it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
As far as I understand, a modem is only responsible for pulling the voice and data connections from your provider. The best explanation I've found on it is from this thread here:http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22913686&postcount=1
That's what I thought (I had originally misunderstood, and thought there was a modem for voice, for data, for WiFi, for Bluetooth...found out a couple weeks ago that was wrong).
Anyway, that KL2 modem is great. I've only lost 13% of my battery in the last 9 hours with WiFi, Data, GPS, and auto-rotation all turned on. This is as opposed to 50% in 8 hours with WiFi only turned on. (Idling both times, as I was asleep.) It also seems to not be affected by the same dead spots the other modem had, as I didn't drop calls while driving past them like I used to.

Prepare to be flamed for asking this question. Not sure why, but everyone seems to get their underwear in a bunch when this question is asked. Just a heads up.
Anyway, I had the same problem as you. I had the exact same setup as I did on CM9, but had much worse battery life, even after multiple fresh installs. I also don't have any widgets or many apps that sync very often. It seems that you just have to wait for the OS to "soak in." Make sure that you wait at least 10 minutes before doing anything after you flash the ROM. Just let your phone sit. After that, you can go into settings and tweak the phone. Also, try to go into the power saver settings, and setting sync to turn off after a set amount of time (I put 15 minutes), and for data to either turn off or turn to 2g mode after x amount of time.
Also, I'm sure you know the obvious.. turn off wifi/data/gps/bt/etc. if you're not using it. Set brightness to low or automagical.
I began with ~7 hours of battery life, and got to ~14 hours. Typically I don't have to be on battery power for 14 hours, and I tend to end up having ~35% of battery life after a full day of use.
Well I'm just asking how everybody uses their phone and hoe much they can get with it. Not saying that the battery life just sucks. I'm supportng my battery life with details
And i don't use many widgets either. I took off my live wallpaper too,i waiting to see how that works out

How is your signal where you live? Do you use your phone as a mp3 player? Have you seen this yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/Why_is_media_server_using_my_battery
Not everybody will get the same battery life. If you are getting good battery on another ics rom and not another it is user error. Even if you are getting good life on gb and that kind of life on a ics it is a user error. Next time just flash and dont restore any data at all.
My battery life problems are pretty much not there anymore. I'm running AOKP M6B3, and getting 16 hours with 25% left, mild data usage, Facebook, GMail push, GVoice push, always on 4G and wifi on too.
I think the key was a Heimdall to stock, then to AOKP.
Yep. That's what I've been recommending to people complaining with battery on CM9 and AOKP to do. My battery life is great, and I use GR every time I go to a new build.
Well, to be fair, I went stock to AOKP M6B1, installed apps. Then just did an upgrade flash to B2. But still, much better battery life.

Hi Guys
Well, after witnessing incredible battery life on latest HebMIUI (mostly taken from Pimp My ROM and Adrenaline Injector), I decided to make a flashable for the rest of the ICS ROMs we have here.
I must say I also use the LB6 modem which is known to give good battery life, so you are advised to install it too, but, it's your call.
I also add here AutomateIt app, which lets you decide what the device will do for certain events (open/close wifi/3G/4G/screen/charge etc.) which you can utilize to save battery life.
links to modem & sources:

I take no responsibility for any damage claimed.
Tested on MIUI, AOKP.
Make a nandroid backup and flash it via CWM/TWRP.
Let it soak in for 1-2 days and let me know what you think.
Does this include the build.prop changes of hebmiui?
Yes. ROM name was set to Batt_MOD instead.
Installed on Remics without any issues. Will report back on the battery life in a few days.

Installed on aokp, on boot I get a process is not responding. After that it is fine and so far great battery usage.
i'll try it later.
Currently (CM9 latest rel), Sitting on a desk with full 4G on a 2300 mAh battery, I get about 2-3 days of usage. Plus a few calls and texts.
At school in and out of e, 4g, and deadzone, I get down to ~65%. Then I need to reboot to stabilize or else it will continue to drain at the rate and I'll be dead by the end of the day.
LB6 did nothing for my battery life but I was getting incredibly slow data, so I reverted to KJ4.
I am thinking of padding KC1 and trying it.

Your phone should be *sleeping* most of the time when you're not using it. CPU speed is irrelevant when sleeping. BBS is the best tool for figuring out why it isn't sleeping.

hm, After I flashed this, whenever I tap on the "(i)" in the news and weather app that
comes with CM9 to see the temperatures for the day, it gives me a message that the
app stopped working and closes..
It might not have to do with this battery mod, but I am trying a process of elimination to pinpoint the culprit..
Would you confirm please if the News & Weather app works after you tap "(i)" in the top right corner?
Thanks..
Edit: I forgot to mention that I tried fixing permission, clearing cache & dalvik cache, but same results..
Hi
the only relevance to this app could be from the system\etc\init.d\S70darky_zipalign script.
Try with and without it and see if it helps.

There really isn't a consensus choice of the most stable rom as all have a problem or two. It doesn't help that we all have varying opinions of each Rom.
It really takes some trial and error.
For example, I've tried a few, but I'm back on 4.2 because my phone seems to be allergic to 4.3. Every rom I've tried seems to have a battery sacking element to it, in most cases it's wifi running nonstop and the phone overheating. One time it was Google+ doing it. In all cases, others on the rom weren't experiencing similar issues.
So, it might be dependent on your own experiences with each rom.
