Faux aluminum edges - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

For those that go naked (no case), have you gotten any scratches on the fake aluminum edges?
I'd like to use no case and have a screen protector & back skin but worried about scratches on the edges.

I bought one for my S3, those things are so cheap and crappy I wasted my money. However I bought a nice from Draco Designs ( which wasn't cheap) but definitely quality. FYI I emailed them this morning and they replied that one for the S4 will be available next week.
So far I have had no case on my phone (about a month) and there are no scratches. I have only a "Just Like Glass" screen protector

This is what I just put on mine.

$14.95 ArmorSuit MilitaryShield - Samsung Galaxy S4 Screen Protector Shield Ultra Clear + Black Carbon Fiber Film Protector
Skin provides nice traction as opposed to stock slick back cover. Edge skins included.

The sides scratch very easily! I highly recommend some type of protection if you intend on keeping your device in mint condition!

Its actually nice metal on the s4 so not the plastic coating like on the s3

Not the metal trim ring around the phone itself, but the chrome bezel that's bordering the display has scratched fairly easily on both mine and my wife's with some minor drops. I definitely wish I would've got a case for outings sooner.
The aluminum trim around the outside of the phone however has remained scratch free on both.

Mine has a small ding in it, and I don't ever recall really dropping it. It does bother me though, and I'm certain I had to have dropped it at some point, as it's on the bottom.

I second the Neo Hybrid. I bought my S4 about a week ago (changed from the OG note) and spigen is completely wrapping it with the screen protector and the Neo since day 3 (had to order the case lol). it doesn't add too much bulk, it levels out the back so your phone isn't resting on your camera when you set it down and it provides a lip so you can set it face down and won't even touch the screen protector and for a total of $30 my phone is completely covered and not too much bulk added.
Also NFC works and rumor has it wireless charging should work too.

Its the best case I have purchased, Im about to buy the Glass Screens from Spigen.

I skipped the glas.t and went to their Ultra crystal screen protector. Over in the i717 section there's a HUGE thread going over the Glas.t and they started out awesome but the later posts say that they're getting peeling up after a couple months and was probably due to a change in the adhesive. Plus with the extra thickness of the glas.t the home button would be recessed, with the Ultra crystal the button is level with the screen protector. And at $7 for the ultra clear you get 2 and MUCH easier to apply.

Been completely naked on mine for about a month. No scratches on the glass, chrome bezel, faux metal ring around the outside, or battery cover. I don't drop my phone, haven't ever shattered a screen in 5 years of having a smart phone. I keep it alone in a pocket, and that's it. All my phones have been treated this way. The One X looked like it went to hell and back after a few months, but my iPhones, Captivate, S II, and Note II all survived really well. My wife is not so gentle, just throws it in her purse. So she has a flip case on my old Note II she is now using.
The only place I have seen any of these phones show wear is on the back when they rub when placed flat. On the S II it was the lip below the battery door. On the S 4 it seems to be the bottom lip of the chrome around the camera lens. That small section is scuffed. Otherwise this naked phone is pristine after a month of use.

Screen Protector?

Just wondering if you use one or not on the GS3. My first GS3 didn't have one on it, and it magically gained 3 large scratches in the screen (always was left in a pocket alone, nothing else). I had one on my 2nd GS3, but I am now on my 3rd (2nd one had dead pixels) and wondering if I should just rough it out without one, or get one again.
Also if you got one, where from, and how do you like it?
Thanks
I got one from my bro so i dont know what brand it is. But i can tell you it came in a pack of like 3 and it sucks. Rainbow affect ruins the screens potential. Look like its kinda snowy and the feel isnt nice

I'm using the SGP Ultra-Nano, and its awesome, comes with 3 in the package, I've used 1 so far, it does have light scratches on it now though, cost about $12 on amazon.
None here. A month in so far without issue *knock on wood*

After looking at this, I think I will buy some. Thanks for the recommendation!
Screen protectors are more trouble than their worth in almost all cases. If you manage to get it on without putting absolutely hideous bubbles on the screen, then you'll be left with something that just makes the screen "rainbowy" and terrible looking. Second skin doesn't do this but then it makes the screen rubbery and grippy feeling, not smooth like it should be. Protectors also seem to enhance fingerprints making them highly visible. Scratches? I wouldn't worry too much about that with gorilla glass 2 - http://youtu.be/wT8xI4PEU8c

I've used the SGP Ultra Nanos and don't like them. Within a month quite a lot had peeled away from the phone. I think this is going to be an issue with all thin film protectors that the industry seems to prefer with this model (slightly curved display surface).
I purchased an XGear Spectre and really like it. It's a tempered glass surface. Very easy to mount and hasn't peeled or scratched despite subjecting it to the same rigors as my previous SGP Ultra Nano. Nor do I expect it to peel in the future because it's pretty think (0.4 mm) and rigid. Apparently it's think enough that it doesn't fit all cases (I don't use a case). The field of view is essentially unaffected and the glass has excellent optics. At $35 with shipping, it's definitely more of than investment than thin film protectors, but I consider it a good value given the advantages.
I got the ones from samsung at the verizion store when i got my phone (the first day they had them or second)
The dude put on the first one for me and still looks great barley tell its there and its custom fit to phone
Price tag is 14 bucks but he gave it to me and it did go on very nicely no bubbles or discoloring
I don't use one, I'm just careful not to put anything in the same pocket that could scratch it
Same I use the one from the Verizon store 12 bucks, it didn't effect the viewing, it's a dry install and almost no bubbles when done, and you get 3.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
I put on 20 of the verizon ones everyday. Done correctly there are no bubbles, no lint and hold up well. Seeing all the hideous home jobs applications, the glossy texture of zags and the anti glare versions I can see why they get a bad rap.
I wouldn't go without one.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
yeah, i've got a plain clear verizon one on mine.....actually it was the Cellet Screen Guard..just took it from my store. i put a million on a day, too, so i'm really good at it. i never ever get bubbles or dust. just gotta know how to do it!
also, you guys getting the grainy and rainbow effects, it's because you're using anti-glare protectors. they suck. the clear ones are better.

Rearth Ringke slim REVIEW

Hey guys,
I got the chance to review this case and made the video as usual. It is very thin, very light, however I am not comfortable leaving the top and bottom exposed.
Here it is! If you have any questions please just let me know
http://youtu.be/KIRwjBtI7L4
Just slapped mine on, like the raised corners for face down safety but agree the front of the top and bottom are pretty exposed. Nice fit and what I was looking for though. Nice review
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
whiel i like how slim it is. on mine, even with it face down, it'll wobble and it seems the screen is still touching because it slides soo easily like it does without the case.
the case without the phone doesn't wobble and it doesn't slide easily. maybe i have crooked one? doesn't feel like it though since there's no squeaking with the case on.
Just got mine and I'm liking it a lot, all we need is a case exactly like this one but covers the top and bottom as well, but yea this one is very nice
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Odd I put mine face down in the dark and can see light all the way around except the corners. I am fairly positive it's not touching screen. The second case I got isn't as good of a fit though it is loose on the volume rocker side.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I've had mine for a week or so.
Pros:
Thin
Light
Cons:
Moves around too much directly over the volume controls. Not enough material there to be stiff enough so it tends to flex in that area.
There's an annoying ridge around the edge closest to the screen. Sort of like a line for the mold used to form the plastic. This makes it feel cheap.
I've got the "Ringke Fusion" case on order and hoping I like that better. If so, this one may be going back.
-Brett.
I was just wondering...to address the 'top and bottom bezel uncovered' issue, could we not apply one of those full body shield protectors, i.e those that protect the sides? Or would the case not fit with that on?

Got this case a couple days ago in white. So far so good. Thin and low profile. Dropped the phone yesterday, hit the corner and not a scratch or crack on the phone.
To those who have this case on, is it a snug fit or kind of lose? I'm asking because I just received the Spigen SGP Slim and it has a lose fit. Like you could shake it softly and feel the phone sliding around..kind of disappointed and if the Ringke Slim is snug, then I'm considering ordering that.

I got my navy blue Ringke Slim (version 2) this morning and although the fit is superb and getting it back off if a challenge i am a little cheesed off that "soft touch" doesn't equate to grip like it would on a Case Mate Barely There.
Great case but i am tempted to put my 95p S Line jobbie back on.
Cheapo case back on and the Ringke Slim sold on, it needs to be more grippy.

It's a minimal dual layer, I have one for my gs3, as well as an otterbox. The otterbox has more protection but you gain mass and heft. I like the incipio because it is slim but still offers good protection
I actually had this one on my phone and was paying for it in the store but I scrubbed the purchase before I could even check out. I think it looks really nice and will probably give good drop protection, but the flimsy silicone would drive me crazy. When you push the side buttons the silicone would buckle. The silicone in the top and bottom didn't fit snugly. JMO. Like I said I looked the way it looked. It was the brushed aluminum dual pro shine with black silicone. Just not snug enough of a fit for me.

I have had this case on my S4 since I got the phone thru verizon, about 10 days . Black on black. I wanted a slim case with decent drop protection. This was a good compromise. The soft inner core does over lap on to the front of the screen a bit, wich is good as I can lay the phone face down without damaging the screen. The soft rubber inner core does attract lint where it is exposed, but I expected that.
so far I am happy with the case. But, I have not dropped it .....yet...

[SF COATED] SPIGEN SGP Samsung Galaxy S4 Case Protective S View Cover

UPS just dropped this off 5 minutes ago. My first impression is that this is the best case for the gs4 for people who want a cover style case. This is the case that Samsung should have made for the gs4. It definitely mimics the curves of the gs4 very well. It has generous port openings that looks to even fit third party adapters. It also has the it blaster port opening. The headphone opening fits all of my headphones such as the vmoda m100, audeo phonak pfe232 and velodyne vpulse. The hinge is made of plastic but this case definitely feels high quality.

Got the black one yesterday and loved the way it looked but shipped it back immediately. I thought "smooth black" would actually feel smooth but instead its kind of rough and almost sticky. Dust and lint immediately stuck to it before I even got the chance to pocket it. The texture was similar to the way the inner casing of otterboxes used to be (after enough complaints about dust and lint sticking to it they finally changed the material to a smoother, more dust free material).
Based on the reviews it seems like that white model is different? If so I may go for that instead. Otherwise the case is pretty slick.

Seriously man, ditch the screen protector. It takes away from the screen beauty and screws up the tactile smoothness between your finger and screen

I'm pretty sure there are a few reviews on the diztronic case around here. I have it and like it. But no tempered glass protector. Just a std oleo-phobic one. I use it with the OEM wireless charging back and it fits perfectly. But I'd still be afraid of dropping it on a corner of the phone for fear of breakage. I do think it would protect it in a face first fall though.

I've used the Diztronic on my past 3 phones, S2, S3, and now S4. The S4 version is a *bit* sturdier than the older models, but by no means it is an armor style case. The plastic formulation is a bit firmer basically. Good solid fit, keeps the slim profile, haven't dropped this one but my older phones both survived multiple drops with them. S4 version has covered buttons, where the S2/S3 had open buttons. I think I prefer the open button style, but it just may be that I got used to it. Only had the S4 version for about a week so time will tell. Still, very good value at <$10 on Amazon typically.
Still working on a screen protector. I had really good results with the stock AT&T one on the S3, I bought it just to have a cover while I figured out what I really wanted, but liked it so much I kept it on the phone. The ATT S4 protector is a different model, iFrogz I think and I don't care for it, so am on the lookout. Was leaning towards the gas t slim, but reports of it not laying flat make me think I should just stay with a normal flexible type cover.
