TF300T Dock Will Not Charge at all - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
New to this part of the forum with a support question. My sister got a TF300T tablet and dock combo about 5 weeks ago and has been using the keyboard attached. She has however never realised that the dock needs to be charged separately and in that 5 weeks has never charged it so naturally when attached to the tablet it is showing 0%
I took it home to do some testing and plugged the keyboard dock into the mains charger and received the orange flashing light. 16 hours later I attached the tablet to the keyboard dock to see that the dock was still at 0%, so in 16 hours it has not charged at all and still was flashing orange.
I drained the tablet battery and started charging both together through the dock and the keyboard was flashing and the tablet had a steady orange.
I have left it to charge while I am at work but am worried that the battery in the dock is faulty.
Can anyone shed some light on what I can try to get this damn thing charging?
PS. The tablet is running stock firmware and has never been rooted. No SD card in dock or tablet either. Cheers.

If the dock isn't charging then it's faulty. I would send it back.

Thanks for the reply. i guess I was looking for some sort of confirmation. Will be returning it tomorrow.
Cheers.

No problem. You should be able to plug the dock into the charger and it should start charging immediately. If it's not charging then it's faulty. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

That's what I thought but 16 hour charge and still at 0% told me something was wrong.
May be the bearer of bad news but it has put my mind at ease a little bit as the store I bought it from will accept the return and no warranty claim is necessary.

Good news. Hopefully you'll be able to get another dock too. I use mine all the time and love it.
Best of luck to you.

[Q] Dock charging issues?

Anyone seeing a charging issue on the dock?
Here is what I'm seeing. My tablet is at 80% charger...so I plug it into the dock which is at 98% charge..but for some reason the dock doesn't charge the tablet. I reboot the tablet with the dock connected..still the dock doesn't charge the tablet.
I take the tablet out of the dock and reboot then connect it to the dock again then I'm able to see that it is charging correctly.
Anyone else see this issue? I don't know if the problem is the dock or the tablet or the software. I'm assuming that this is software related otherwise it would never charge.
Thoughts?
Same here. Are you plugging into a wall or pc? I found by using the wall charger it fixed the problem.

neither. i'm just trying to let it charge from the dock and it won't do it unless i reboot the tablet separately and then reconnect it to the dock. even if i keep the tablet on the dock and then restart...it still won't charge.
The dock starts charging the tablet when it reaches 70%.

oh i see. but i do think i have a problem with the tablet..i try to charge it directly and now its not charge. it was at 77% without the dock..plugged in the charger and no charging. very strange. but if i connect the tablet to the dock and then charge it then it appears to be fine.

Dock Battery Problem?

Hello, all. I just picked up a dock from Best Buy last night and am having some interesting problems with it. When I first connect it to the Infinity, it always shows that it has 56% battery life. Then, after a few minutes, it shows 0% battery life, but still works fine (I'm typing this on it right now, as it says 0% battery life). I charged it over night (with the tablet docked), so I figured it would've charged completely (tablet was fully charged, as expected). I am on CleanROM 2.7.2, so part of me wonders if it's a ROM (or kernel) thing. Has anybody heard of this or had experience with it? What should I do to try to remedy the problem?
Thanks in advance for any insight!

Been charging all day... after searching, I decided to try a cold boot with the Infinity docked, which didn't work. I charged the dock and tablet together afterward, with the tablet powered off... tablet is showing 100%, dock still says 56%. Installed "dual battery meter" to see if it was an ASUS widget issue, but the aftermarket widget shows 56%, too.
Should I just suspect my dock is defective?

I think you got a bad dock and would take it back for exchange. I have had zero problems with my dock/keyboard. I unpackaged it, connected it to the tablet, plugged it in, both dock and tablet fully charged without issue.

Exchanged. New one is charging. I'll post back with results. Thanks for your insight!
Update: Charging light went green and the widget is showing the dock has a full charge. I guess I simply got a defective unit. Thanks again!

How much is it from Best buy? 149 $. Does it real t700 dock ?
I want dock too, but look ebay over 149
It is $149.99 at Best Buy. It is the TF700/TF201 dock (as opposed to the TF500/TF700 dock, which I believe is supposed to be forward compatible, but with no other differences in functionality).

one thing to note, although the battery in the dock can go completely dead, you will still be able to use the keyboard to type. It just wont charge your Infinity.

Will the dock cause increased battery drain on the Infinity if you use it when it's dead? (By the way, thanks for responding. I suspected that a dead dock was still usable, but had I known that, I'd have been more confident that my dock was defective from the start).

Cable questions

So i need a cable for one that im purchasing from ebay (Cable/charger not included)
Ive searched eBay for a cable and noticed that it says "USB Charging will not work from USB port" this being due to USB 3.0? However i have 2 USB 3.0 ports on my computer.. Does it not support charging?
Also, can i use my stander wall to USB adapter to charge the tablet?
THanks all!
The Asus charger is unlike most other plugs. It puts out 15 volts. Just buy the plug and cable off Ebay. I saw several on there when I was shopping for a spare cable and they're not that expensive. The reason it says that it won't charge over USB is because those ports don't put out enough power to charge the tablet like it's supposed to be charged. It would basically give the tablet a trickle charge. It would probably charge it but it would take forever.

Intersting. Thank you for the reply. What about my Wall-To-USB adapter? Would that charge it? That way i could just buy the cable (Its only like 5 bucks)

I seriously doubt it unless it's rated at 15 volts. I can pretty much guarantee that it's not. The average wall to USB doesn't put out that much voltage.
One good thing about the stock Asus plug is that it doesn't take very long to charge the tablet.

It outputs at 5 volts. However, the amperage is the same as the Stock Asus Charger. Im guessing it will just take forever lol. So i am looking at this charger and this data cable What are your thoughts?
Yep. That looks like your best bet, price wise. A stock style charger starts around $30 according to what I just looked at.

No problem. I hope everything works out for you and your new tab. I love mine.
I don't know if the tablet you are buying is already unlocked and rooted or not. If not, you'll probably want to root it in order to get the most out of it. Just about anything you need to know about it is located here within this forum. :good:

your 1% too high mate lol the dock will only kick in after the tablet drops below 70% mate
LOL! i have this tablet for more then a month and i didn't know that! BUT every widget i use says it is charging and the battery meter is rising! BUT android is not saying it is charging!
EDIT: when i enable always show battery percentage: it shows DIScharging on the lockscreen! (BTW: running aokp)
EDIT2: in the battery section in the settings app it says: 75 - charging! but the lockscreen doesn't so i guess it's just an AOKP bug i just noticed
EDIT3: currently i have a charger plugged in into the dock (in a car) it's around 12V and nothing happens! the tablet still charges trough the dock do! so i assume it is not a hardware issue but it is just not enough power!
EDIT4: now i know the car doesn't give enough power because: the tablet/dock alone doesn't charge!
So in the end: there is nothing wrong with my tablet! i can be really stupid sometimes i really love this tablet and i am afraid something will hapen to it!

[Q] Dock not charging

So, I bought my TF700T back in February from an American site (They had a discount that would make it much cheaper than buying it from Denmark.)
However, I forgot that it would not come with an EU compatible charger, so I was stuck with my HTC charger, which could charge the tablet itself, but not the dock. Because I finally got to a point where I've had enough, I went out and bought the original charger from Asus.
However, after having it charge for a few hours, the dock still shows 0%.
I've tried to charge it both with and without the tablet attached, nothing changed.
I looked at some threads that tells me that I should plug the dock into the USB for 5-10 min. and then back to the charger, but that didn't work either.
What can I possibly do?
The dock is blinking orange, so clearly there's a connection, and the charger works fine for the tablet, just not the dock.
Oh, and I'm rooted and unlocked on default ROM.

Loads of places you can buy a charger from. Or buy a plug adapter, US charger should work in Denmark.

Sorry I didn't read your thread properly......
How long are you letting it charge for, could be the battery is completely dead or malfunctioning in the dock.

It's been charging for well over 48 hours at this point, and still nothing. The tablet gets charged through the dock just fine, but the dock itself stays at 0%.
I'm gonna go ahead and bump this.
It's been nearly two months, and still no solution.
-Snip-
I would say your dock battery is dead. There's a video on YouTube on how to tear down and replace it. No idea though how much a replacement battery would be...
You wouldn't still be under warranty, would you?

I should be, the only problem is that I bought the tablet in America, and I live in Denmark, Europe, so idk. Shipping will be expensive, unless I can send it to ASUS Europe?

Call your Asus service center or open a ticket online. They will direct you to the nearest service center. The warranty is worldwide - so you should not have any problems.

Same problem here
It seems I am having exactly the same problem. My dock battery is shown as 0% charged and it is blinking orange.
Was there any solution to this problem? Could this be software related and being fixed by another firmware (by the way: does the dock have its own firmware?)? Or is this more hardware related and the dock battery is just broken and needs a replacement.
I bought my dock used and separated from the TF700. Anyway I will try to contact Asus support to see what their answer is.
Regards
Sven
tf700 only charges when docked
I have the opposite problem. I got a refurbished tf700 and dock. The tablet will only charge when docked. It won't charge directly from charger.
Tablet was completely dead when it arrived. It's now charged up to 18% (dock started at 53% and is now down to 2%), but still only charges with the dock. Will charge all night to see if that changes anything.
