Cable questions - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i need a cable for one that im purchasing from ebay (Cable/charger not included)
Ive searched eBay for a cable and noticed that it says "USB Charging will not work from USB port" this being due to USB 3.0? However i have 2 USB 3.0 ports on my computer.. Does it not support charging?
Also, can i use my stander wall to USB adapter to charge the tablet?
THanks all!

The Asus charger is unlike most other plugs. It puts out 15 volts. Just buy the plug and cable off Ebay. I saw several on there when I was shopping for a spare cable and they're not that expensive. The reason it says that it won't charge over USB is because those ports don't put out enough power to charge the tablet like it's supposed to be charged. It would basically give the tablet a trickle charge. It would probably charge it but it would take forever.

Intersting. Thank you for the reply. What about my Wall-To-USB adapter? Would that charge it? That way i could just buy the cable (Its only like 5 bucks)

I seriously doubt it unless it's rated at 15 volts. I can pretty much guarantee that it's not. The average wall to USB doesn't put out that much voltage.
One good thing about the stock Asus plug is that it doesn't take very long to charge the tablet.

It outputs at 5 volts. However, the amperage is the same as the Stock Asus Charger. Im guessing it will just take forever lol. So i am looking at this charger and this data cable What are your thoughts?

Yep. That looks like your best bet, price wise. A stock style charger starts around $30 according to what I just looked at.

No problem. I hope everything works out for you and your new tab. I love mine.
I don't know if the tablet you are buying is already unlocked and rooted or not. If not, you'll probably want to root it in order to get the most out of it. Just about anything you need to know about it is located here within this forum. :good:

Charging thru PC

I have the new 300 and it charges fine using the wall plug, but will not charge when plugged into the PC. Is this normal?
I believe it will only charge when the unit is off if you plug into your pc.
it will probably charge slowly if at all. remember the output for PC is for a normal USB which is 5v. the wall charger is 12 V if i'm not mistaken.
I'm pretty sure its 15VDC, 1A. but either way its more than a computer's USB (5VDC, 500mA).
Think of the cord as a pipe in your house. The Voltage (VDC) is the size of the pipe, and the Current (A, or mA) is the speed at which the water flows through the pipe. If you slow down the waterflow, you'll still get the water you need, but a little bit slower. If you shrink the size of the pipe you get a lot less water at a time making it much much slower, probably not even enough to replace what is being used at the time.
Hope my analogy helps.
We need the fast charge option from aokp. We need a few other things before that option though.

It was possible to charge the TF101 on an USB 3.0 port on the PC.
And the new Asus mainboards have an extra USB charging mode witch can be activated in the UEFI BIOS.

It says in the user manual (why read that useless junk?) that the tablet can only charge via USB while it's turned off. It's by design, as stupid as that design may be.

But it still charges when pluged into a pc it just doesnt say its being charged (you can check it yourself just plug it into your pc and wait a while the battery percentage will go up...)

That's interesting. I didn't try it, but I read the user manual, and I figure it's best to follow the manufacturer's instructions (until the bootloader is unlocked, anyway), especially with brand new expensive electronics.
Good to know, though. Thanks.

Not gonna be very compact but I can see using that and an external Battery to make it 100% wireless.

But you would need a power source, the mat can't just obtain electricity out of thin air. The closest we may get to a truly wireless charger is a solar powered one...

Yeah but you could just make a power bank, that had the ability to use inductive charging, for example, the official Google wireless charger for the Nexus 4,imagine if there was a battery inside that semisphere, so it's a power bank, you charge it at home and take it to wherever you want, when u put your phone on top, it starts charging, it's not getting the electricity out of nowhere, it's getting it from the internal battery inside the semisphere that u charged at home, the same way u could build a mat that does this, batteries are like 0.5 millimeters thick, so you could make a mat that is 1cm thick and u charge it at home, then u take it with you and u charge your phone putting it on top of it... Any of those would be awesome

TF300T Dock Will Not Charge at all

Hi guys,
New to this part of the forum with a support question. My sister got a TF300T tablet and dock combo about 5 weeks ago and has been using the keyboard attached. She has however never realised that the dock needs to be charged separately and in that 5 weeks has never charged it so naturally when attached to the tablet it is showing 0%
I took it home to do some testing and plugged the keyboard dock into the mains charger and received the orange flashing light. 16 hours later I attached the tablet to the keyboard dock to see that the dock was still at 0%, so in 16 hours it has not charged at all and still was flashing orange.
I drained the tablet battery and started charging both together through the dock and the keyboard was flashing and the tablet had a steady orange.
I have left it to charge while I am at work but am worried that the battery in the dock is faulty.
Can anyone shed some light on what I can try to get this damn thing charging?
PS. The tablet is running stock firmware and has never been rooted. No SD card in dock or tablet either. Cheers.
If the dock isn't charging then it's faulty. I would send it back.

Thanks for the reply. i guess I was looking for some sort of confirmation. Will be returning it tomorrow.

No problem. You should be able to plug the dock into the charger and it should start charging immediately. If it's not charging then it's faulty. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

That's what I thought but 16 hour charge and still at 0% told me something was wrong.
May be the bearer of bad news but it has put my mind at ease a little bit as the store I bought it from will accept the return and no warranty claim is necessary.
Good news. Hopefully you'll be able to get another dock too. I use mine all the time and love it.
Best of luck to you.

[Q] sch i535 micro usb connection charging problem

Hi,
I have had my phone since August 2012. Starting the other day my micro usb port on my S3 is starting to get really picky as to how it must be positioned to charge. I have tried atleast 4 different cables, all doing the same thing. I know its just a matter of time before it stops charging all together...
My question is
A)Is the micro USB replaceable (I have no soldering experience)
B)Should I replace the whole motherboard
C)Should I look for a new phone (I can use my brothers upgrade.... but only as last resort)
What are your thoughts?
Thanks!

I see videos for replacing just the usb part ON the motherboard, some people solder (like I said, I never soldered before)
AND there are some 'unprofessional' looking videos where people use a heat gun (which I have) to just replace it.
As for the motherboard replacement, there are good complete disassemblies of the S3, and some boards can be found on ebay
but for $130...
Well you should be careful charging your phone next time perhaps when you get a new device don't let the charger yank down on the port itself

you could always invest in wireless charging! Then you wouldnt have to deal with it! Could be a good alternative!
I found this:
http://www.amazon.com/SainSonic-Standard-Wireless-Charger-Receiver/dp/B00C3DKSRM?tag=notebookscom-20
and then you can just buy a wireless charger and boom no more worrying about the microusb port!

You could also buy a spare battery and one if those wall charger that you put the battery in (like that come with the zero lemon 2300 slims). You essentially charge the battery outside the phone, then just pop the charged battery in (no touching charging port on your phone). I think they're like 20 something bucks on Amazon and come with that wall charger thing.

Charging problem TF101

I have an TF101 here which had been used by my parents without any problems. Now, after a week or so I charged the thing without any problems. Now it doesn't charge anymore. It is being recognized by my laptop though. I tried different cables (one new cable) and adapters, but the tablet doesn't charge at all, it is only recognized by my laptop. Last week I tried it with an identical cable and adapter from my mother in law, guess what, it works perfectly. Please help.

Your TF101 charges perfectly with the cable and charger from your mother in law and it worked and charged? - Just use that?
You can trickle charge the TF with your laptop, but you need to power off the TF101, and leave it plugged into the laptop/PC USB > TF overnight
If it doesn't charge that way, something is wrong with either the cable or the TF, if it does, you need a new charger
My mother in law lives far away so that is not an option. I'm (hopefully) charging the tablet on my laptop as we speak. Will let you know what it does.

Well if your mother in laws lead and charger works, then you already know the answer, buy a new genuine lead and charger
