Charging problem TF101 - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an TF101 here which had been used by my parents without any problems. Now, after a week or so I charged the thing without any problems. Now it doesn't charge anymore. It is being recognized by my laptop though. I tried different cables (one new cable) and adapters, but the tablet doesn't charge at all, it is only recognized by my laptop. Last week I tried it with an identical cable and adapter from my mother in law, guess what, it works perfectly. Please help.

Your TF101 charges perfectly with the cable and charger from your mother in law and it worked and charged? - Just use that?
You can trickle charge the TF with your laptop, but you need to power off the TF101, and leave it plugged into the laptop/PC USB > TF overnight
If it doesn't charge that way, something is wrong with either the cable or the TF, if it does, you need a new charger

My mother in law lives far away so that is not an option. I'm (hopefully) charging the tablet on my laptop as we speak. Will let you know what it does.

Well if your mother in laws lead and charger works, then you already know the answer, buy a new genuine lead and charger

I don't know if its just me but the charger for my TF101 I had to replace twice. Plus it's starting to get difficult finding stores who have the cable

Charger eaten!

Okay my mother just called me and let me know her dog ate her wall charger. Besides buying another one, what other options are there to charge a xoom right now.
Thanks,

Besides buying another charger? Nothing.
Dive and and retrieve the package or visit a mall kiosk and buy a cheap charger. The USB cable that came with the Xoom should allow you to charge from the computer also.

To be honest....not many. The connector the Xoom uses is a pain, not included with laptop universal chargers. I think there are some Nokia phones that take the same size so you may find it included in some phone universal charger sets, but since the Xoom can't be charged via USB cable like phones your options are pretty limited. Contact Moto or Verizon and see if you can buy a new Xoom charger.

No, as far as I know the Xoom will not trickle charge via the USB.

My bad I assumed. I had mines plugged in yesterday while rooted and didn't notice it. If you have an iGo charging system you can buy a tip from Radioshack.
Would that be a kernel issue or just hardware?

Pure hardware...the microUSB port on the Xoom isn't designed to recharge the battery...and the voltage the USB cable could carry would likely not be enough to make much of a difference, like on the iPad.

Have to keep my charger in the freezer

Because my charger keeps stopping (and the freezer trick works), I have to pretty much keep my charger in the freezer all the time when I'm not using it. This is really annoying!! Besides buying the Dynex universal charger or soldering my own charger, are there any other fixes yet for this awful charging issue?
I have trouble with the charger also, the cable is fine though. The one thing that has worked for me is running it on my car charger. its a 12v power converter and works everytime. ofcourse, you try this and bring it back to the wall charger. I would try that before going out and buying another charger.

Do you mean a power inverter? Is the only place you can reliably charge your TF in your car?
Can you RMA your charger? Asus sells the charger and cable on their site, so they are available. If you want to buy one in a store they are available. I don't know where you are, but here in the US Office Depot sells the pair for $30.

Yes, but the concern is that so many people are having this problem. Who's to say that if I RMA the charger, the replacement charger I get won't start doing the same thing?

No guarantee, but there are plenty of people like me that have never had an issue (other than the USB 3 cable is too short).

I suspect that every person who posts an issue with their charger there are 100 that have no problems. It's the old internet problem multiplier effect at work.

Transformer does not charge anymore

First of all: Yes, I did use the search function. Yes, I did use google. But No, I did not find an answer to my problem.
Hopefully you guys can help me:
I bought a TF101 a week ago - it is used and came without the charger nor a data-cable.
So I bought an datacable off amazon which worked fine. But as we all know a usb port has not enough power to charge the tablet.
After looking around the Internet I build myself an molex to usb adapter which worked like a charm.
But now I plugged in the cable and it's not charging anymore. (8h ago it worked fine)
The cable is fine (PC can still connect to the transformer).
The adapter is fine (multimeter is giving out 11.56V)
Now when I plug in the cable it gives me a picture of a nearly empty battery.
I tried resetting the tablet - no effect.
Anyone knows this problem? Or has an idea how to fix it?
Transformer details:
TF101-1B032A
Android 4.0.3
Kernel 2.6.39.4 [email protected] #1
Build number: IML74K.WW_epad-9.2.1.24-20120503
I think you should first bought the Asus original charger instead which guaranteed supplying 100% correct voltages and ampere to your tablet. Does it charge via PC USB port now?
11.56V isn't enough to trip the HV charge, you need at Least 12V.
Try the ASUS charger.

And the only way to confirmed this is by plugging the TF to PC via USB port and see if it still charging, or try the original Asus charger.
Using another adaptor with rating voltage safe to our TF doesn't guarantee it fit to the TF after all. There's always fluctuation in between the incoming and outgoing supply, and the transformer seemed to be a little sensitive to this tiny changes..

The cable could be faulty.
Mines was - and yes the pc still recognised the tablet when connected. Theres 4 pins in it compare to the usual 3 (i may stand corrected on that 1)
RMA confirmed this and Asus sent a new sync cable back.
Its maybe going to cost a few quid but as the rest of the guys have said - get an origional charger and cable.
Ok, first of all thank you for your help.
I would have bought a original Charger but could not find any in local stores nor amazon (.de) exept a traveller set which costs around 40€ (which is too way much)
I plugged the transformer (turned off) in my IPod wallcharger (5V1A) overnight and it charged.
Now I am really confused - why is it charging over the lower voltage output but not over the 12V?
//Edit:
Thanks to (the) Thing o Doom
I tried pluging the adapter to another powersource and it works. (I feel stupid to not tried this earlier) Seems like my mobile molex power supply is not fully working.

It's the build in power protection preventing your TF from catching fire from over fluctuation voltages supply. In ASUS original charger, it maintain the right amount of output even with uneven input supply. And the ipod charger has it as well..

Charging port going bad?

My phone has been hating chargers lately. I would say that my charging port is definitely going bad, except that there are a couple of chargers that do work pretty well with my phone. I bought a new Verizon universal car charger, and the first one worked well for about a month before my phone started connecting and disconnecting repeatedly. I took the charger to Verizon and the tech support lady took my phone and charger away for a few mins. She said that my car charger had a short in it. OK. So now I have a new one, and it is working well. But as for every other charger that I use. They all seem to have a very difficult time connecting or staying connected. If I move the cord around, the phone will begin to charge, although at a VERY slow pace. All of my high capacity chargers are doing this as well. Hours to charge the phone fully. Are all of my chargers simply going to crap, or is my charging port taking a slow dive? Ideas?
If I were you, I would get a wireless charger ASAP, to save wear and tear on your charge port. There are a few if you search. Verizon has one also.

Have you checked to see if your phone is charging by USB or ac? I ask because a lot of times my phone says USB even though it is an ac source.

Now that's not a bad idea. I forgot that these things have a wireless charging option. It's a little expensive if I remember right. I do have a $100 gift card from Christmas for Best Buy (hate that place!).

It does show charging by AC. I'll check on all of my chargers to be sure. But to clarify, on most chargers, my phone disconnects and reconnects to the charger over and over. It's as if either every charging cable I have is bad, or my charging port is loose or not getting a good connection. I have to make sure my phone sits even with the charging cable, or it won't charge at all. Vehicle chargers are the worst because of the constant movement in a vehicle.

Yeah...it is still under the Verizon warranty. I have taken it up there, but I didn't want to be an ass, insisting that it's the phone, when maybe the phone is just picky about chargers. They did try to swap out my battery, as a first step. I'm probably gonna go up and insist on a replacement. I just don't see it being every other charger. I have owned several other smartphones that were power intensive, such as the Galaxy Nexus and the Droid X. They didn't have this problem.

TF101 is not charging, help me please

My TF101 is not chranging, whether I plug it to a PC, or to an AC connector...please help me, I don't know what to do...://
My wife's Transformer won't charge either. Tried multiple chargers and nothing. Weird thing is she can plug it into the dock and it charges. Only way she can do it. PC won't recognize it either.
Good chance your port is bad. Try it in the keyboard dock if you can and see if it charges.
Aslo it may be broken sync-charge cable. Try other one. I had similar problem with sync (tablet didn't recognized by PC), that was solved with new cable
The PC recognizes the TF, but not charging...and the dock doesn't charges as well...now I have EOS 4 ROM on the TF and in the status bar it shows, that it's charging but in Menu>Battery it shows that it isn't...and it isn't...it only charging in APX mode, but after a whole night on the charger it is on 22%...WTF? Any helps appriciated...
The dock isn't depending on rom and etc. IMO If charger and cable are fine that one should get charge.
Another vote on broken cable, I've had thhe same issue, was resolved with a new cable, seems to be something up with them, they seem last about a year and half and break.
