Default Power on when plugged in - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I thought I saw reference to a mod that prevents the tablet from powering up when plugged in. However after searching I am unable to find it. Am I imagining that I saw it or is there a way to do this? It is quite annoying to shut down my tablet, and plug it in to charge only to have to shut it down again because it booted up.
I am on CROMI-X 4.6.4 with Hundsbauh v10 kernel.
Thanks in advance for the help.

You don't need to power it off to charge it, just leave it on.
That's the point of smartphones and tablets, you just need a second to "turn on" (unlock) the device.

I didn't say that I "need" to power it off. I believe I said that I "want" to power it off - and keep it off. I understand the how and the why. But my preference is to keep it off when I turn it off whether I plug it in or not. I don't really care what the point of smart phones and tablets is or is not. If it can't be done than so be it. But if it is possible than that was the point of my inquiry. I know I can just power it down after I plug it in, but there are times I forget (like when I am hitting the bed and I am half asleep).

I believe Elesbb was going to make the MOD you are talking about. I'm not positive but I don't think he's made it yet. You may want to check with him.

[Q] Not Working Out Of Box

I received the device at 4 today, opened it and found, to my dismay, that it wouldn't turn on. I tried holding the power button for 10 seconds and 30 seconds, after ten seconds my device makes a clicking noise, but nothing else happens. I've tried holding the power button and the volume up and down buttons ( they are not sticking), also with no results. When I plug it into my computer, it does not show up. Perhaps I need to download drivers? I've also tried plugging it in and charging it, still nothing. I called Asus support and got a trainee who said they would get back with me, whatever that means.... any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

That happened to me too. I plugged it into AC over night and the next day it worked. Display has sometimes problems coming out of sleep mode. Try it!
...besides: not do discourage you, but now, mine's completely bricked, display doesn't turn on at all
Wow man that sucks hope I fair a little better. I will try that tho. Asus sure is having a troublesome release

Give it a few hours on the provided charger. Then hold the power button 10 seconds. Then wait 2 minutes. Then try to turn it on again. If that does not work, leave it overnight on your computer USB in case there is something wrong with your charger.
Just an idea.
I'll try that tho my charger gets warm but my transformer does not

Mine happens to be charging right now, and the machine does not get very warm at all, but the charger gets fairly warm, so that might be normal, I don't know.
That makes me feel better lol

Just a thought here and its probably not the problem. But did the Plug attachment on the transformer click into the transformer properly? I had big problems with it not clicking home and had to actually file down the little T notch on the transformer until it clicked home!!

That's why I was thinking that he could put it on the computer's USB overnight, it won't charge up all the way, but if there is something wrong with the transformer it might be enough to get started.
My battery was dead out of the box. After a quick charge it turned on at 5% battery life.
so i left it pluged into my computer all night and still nothing. its a bit wierd tho my computer is telling me i have new hardware connected but it will not let me see it. so i dont know what to do i guess im going to have to RMA. anyway thanks for all the help
I think the problem most of you are having, especially when just starting to use a new device, is a combination of a fairly low/flat battery coupled with the default lock screen bug, which causes the display to not function correctly occasionally. So start off by charging it up, then doing the 10+seconds force power off method to make sure its off. Then press and hold the power button for 5-6 seconds to do a normal power on. This way it should boot up properly, avoiding the lock screen bug to start off with, make sure to keep the display alive until you unlock the screen, then change the default lock screen to something else, or simply disable it totally.

Not possible to turn on

I recieved my TF700 yesterday, tried to start it up but shut down immediatly.. Charged it some but took it out again to plug it into another outlet.. I charged it until the LED became green, but neither a power og vol- and power will turn it on, any things to try before sending it in again?

Try press the power button for 5-7 seconds to see whether it starts up. This might work.
I had to hold my power button a full 10 seconds! I was sure I had gotten a brick! But it's been fine since. I would also recommend you avoid the temptation to use it right away and give it a full 8 hour charge first.
Yeah i have tried that, have tried for a minute also, nothing
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Is the power really still on? What happens if you connect it to the PC/MAC via USB? If power is off, I think sometimes you don't need to hold the button too long in fact I remember getting multiple vibration as you explained but instead of holding for too long I just held for couple seconds and it turned on.
Nothing of the usual works, just thought if there was a button combo to do a full wipe, other than power and vol down
Nothing happens when plugging into pc

No, there is no magical combination, although you might give the reset hole a shot before RMA'ing your unit.

not charging?
I bought a 32 gb tf700 from Best Buy. Decided I needed a 64 gb instead so returned that one and ordered a 64 gb. Got that - charged for 8 hrs and it would not turn on - tried all the resets/methods that I could find on the web. I returned it to Best Buy and ordered another. Got that in and the same thing. Would not turn on for anything. I then realized that the wall connector was not warm (it was very warm when I was charging the 32 gb tf700 which worked fine). I also ordered a dock/keyboard so I plugged that in and it indeed did charge so it was not the charger. I connected my tf700 to the dock thinking I could then turn it on - still nothing. The tf is wonderful (based on my experience with the 32 gb tf700). However, I've read numerous posts saying other people have had issues turning their transformer on. Is the quality control by Asus that bad or am I just one unlucky person? Any ideas before I return the tablet and dock to Best Buy and go to a different company's tablet?
Thanks
Eric
Think i was just unlucky, you even more so.. I ordered one with keyboard instead, works great!

Powered on when plugged into charger/dock = Annoying. Fix?

When my Infinity is plugged into either the power adapter or dock when it's off, it turns on. Very annoying. I'd love to be able to plug it in when it's off to charge it without it coming on. Anyone have a solution to this?
Muchas gracias in advance!!
Mine does this as well, but it does turn off after the cooldown timer set under Settings (in the Display section). I do not believe there is a hack available for preventing the display to turn altogether, alas.

Go to Settings > Developer Options > "Uncheck Stay Awake While Charging".
It took awhile to figure this out. I couldn't understand why my battery was draining so much, once I turned this off I could go a few days without charging.

I don't think that answers his question though. Even when that option isn't checked, the device still powers on automatically when connecting the charger cable. He's trying to stop the device from coming on when connecting the power cable while the device is off...

Only way to get to a state of "being off" and "charging" seems to be to plug it in and then shutdown. I've had this reaction in all of my android devices. If you plug it in first with even if the battery run down so far that the device cannot power on, it still will when there is enough juice in the battery to do so.
I have stay awake while charging unchecked, thanks.
I've seen this in all my Android devices too, was just hoping for some sort of hack to turn it off on the Infinity.
Thanks for the replies!

To answer in off-topic mode, for completeness' sake: this does absolutely NOTHING for your tablet's battery life whatsoever, provided you religiously charge it to the same level (i.e., chock-full). You might have seen the tablet homing in on the correct prediction of battery life, something it may need a few charging cycles for.
I find this "on" when plugged in feature annoying.
Didn't initially notice the tablet doing it.
Our other tablets don't do this.
Kind of a weird thing.
Maybe Asus was thinking it would be good for pushing updates while in charge mode.

This is the only Android device I've seen do this, but I have only had HTC Phones. And it is annoying, but I've just learned to do like you said and turn it off after plugging it in when I want to charge it powered off. Which is kinda rare any more. I would only charge it turned off if I wasn't using the brick that came with it.

Just to clairify, I believe we are talking about two different things here, correct me if I'm wrong.
OP is having issue where when he has the tablet powered off completely that it then powers itself back on automatically when plugged in.
Others mentioned screen automatically turns on when plugged in and wants to stay on in some cases and even when turned off, the tablet doesnt deep sleep.
If this is correct, then I'll continue with this. i have had this happen to different devices and seems to be a feature of the ROM. One of the last ROMs I ran on my phone drove me nuts with this. I could never charge my handset with it powered off. When it was near dead and I was leaving soon, I would want it to be as juiced up as possible in a short amount of time so I would power it off and charge. Then one day after flashing I could no longer do this. Then I switched ROMs and I can again. I havn't tried this on my TF700 yet, but would find it annoying if I needed to. I have seen this happen on other devices before realizing it was connected to my ROM, although I could work around by selecting shutdown after it booted up. But with the ROM on my note it would shut down and come right back up.

Anyone notice that the TF700 goes into deep-sleep, even when connected to AC power?

With my TF101, the tablet would never go into deep sleep if AC power was connected (which kinda makes sense). However, the TF700 seems to deep sleep even when connected to AC power.
Really, the only reason I noticed is because it takes a few seconds before I can enter my PIN after "opening" my docked Transformer, even while connected to AC power. Just a little annoyance - just wondering if anyone knows how to stop deep sleep when connected to AC power...
Thanks!

Settings => Developer Options => Stay Awake
That prevents the screen from sleeping while charging. I'm using this setting, and it still puts the screen to sleep when it is docked and closed while charging, just not deep sleep.
Hope that does what you're looking for.

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately, that option causes the screen to never "time out" if I leave it on by accident (or for whatever reason) while connected to AC power.
I was just trying to avoid deep-sleep (which it does), while still allowing the screen to turn off automatically after so long. Like I said, that's how the TF101 works - if you are connected to AC power, the screen will still time-out, but the unit doesn't actually enter the deep sleep mode.
No big deal though, just wondering if anyone knew of a way to make it behave like the TF101 (for which I've never enabled that option).
Thank again.

Ah, okay. Well, unless you added the 'deep sleep' options to your build.prop file, the only other setting I could think of is: Settings => ASUS Customized Setting => MobileDock Battery Saving Mode
I don't think that should affect what you're referring to, but I suppose it's worth a shot.

That's the toggle to disable the 'listen' to the keyboard dock in order to let presses on the keyboard wake up the device. This drains battery, and I'm not sure if it prevents deep sleep. (It doesn't hurt to try, of course.)

Yeah, the only think I can think of is that if he has this enabled, and is trying to enter his pin with the dock -immediately- after awaking from sleep, could it maybe take the dock a moment to "awaken" as well?
EDIT: I think this is it. I have this setting enabled, and I just set a pin on my tablet to test this. If I open the tablet and immediately try to enter the pin with the keyboard dock, it takes a moment before it starts to register key-presses when this setting is enabled.

Yep - that's the exact "issue" that I speak of.... I don't want to disable the mobile dock battery saver option though (because then it would *never* deep sleep, even on battery power)...
Oh well, sounds like the TF700 just acts differently than the TF101 in this situation (like I said, the TF101 doesn't deep sleep when connected to AC power, even with the same settings).
No big deal though - thanks for all of the replies!

[Q] Asus Memo Pad HD 7 bricked?

If this isn't the right area, please move it!
Anyway, I was following the steps on to flash a rom on the Asus Memo Pad HD 7 here [RECOVERY] [ROM] ASUS Memo Pad HD 7 (me173x) [MULTILANG] and it seemed to brick it! I'm not blaming anyone as I took that risk, but I'd like to know what you think of this. I was at the end of Part 1 where you flash the preloader, and when I connected the Pad to my PC, windows said it needed to install a driver AGAIN! So I went through the steps of loading it and for who knows why the PC locked up. I'm sure it had nothing to do with this, but the PC rarely if ever locks up so I was surprised.
Anyway, I was forced to restart it and went back to start from where I left off. But now the Pad does nothing! I plug it in and the included "Flash Tool" doesn't see it, even Windows doesn't say anything is connected!!!!! I tried everything I could think of (Hold power and volume buttons, etc) but it wont turn on! Even plugging it in does nothing! I think it's charging (feels a little warm) but it may be leftover heat. Is there anything left that I could do, or did I just create a very expensive paperweight?
If nothing can be done, I'm sure Best Buy will still exchange it. I haven't had it very long and I'm not telling them what I did!

There are 2 ways:
1. Disconnect and connect the battery
2. Wait 1-2 days

So open it and remove the battery, reconnect it and wait that long before turning it on? I guess it's worth a try. Does opening it break any warranty seals?
