Since Nightlie 20130525, 3G everest is failing to remain connected.
Subsequent updates ( nightlie 20130524 is the last ok update that works) fail to maintain 3G connectivity. Update appear to take ok, then loss of connectivity after the tablet goes to sleep. " no service", no 3G connection.
Rebooting fails to clear the issue, wifi remains ok.
A few have been rasing the issue but no resolve so far.

I have the same problem. Tried various ROMs from various people (CM [arjen, hehappy], MIUI, AOKP), also various kernels... no results.

Although the problem still exists, but now, at least I know that there are some other persons on the planet who suffer just like me! It also indicates that it is a systematic problem and there may be a solution. We have to keep trying.
I dont have any problems on wifi. I dont use wifi much since I rely on data connection. But phone/ROM scans and displays network without any problems.
Currently Im using AOKP milestone build #6 and its stable apart from some minor bugs.
See if you can use wifi tethering....

I also have exact same problem - NO WIFI on Android 4.x.x. Problem is related to SIM card and Baseband issue. If you flash ROM with no SIM card, wifi works! If you install SIM card wifi no longer works.
First discovered this when I upgraded from Froyo to LG 2.3.3 and the wireless would not work then, and I had to change network selection from Automatic, and select my service provider manually to get WiFi to work. I think the problem with 4.x.x is similar, but it gives an error trying to manually select the service provider, so wifi does not work.
I have 20G baseband (latest I think).
Does anyone else have error when selecting service provider manually?
CyanogenMod-7 nightly builds wifi works perfectly. Just fails with any 4.x.x versions.
Problem Solved!!
Eventually I found a solution for this problem at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35592444&postcount=5856
or directly at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445766

I recently installed Quarx build of CM10.1 on my Motorola Defy. I have not been able to get wifi to work. I installed from:
http://quarx2k.ru/cm10.1-nightly-defy+/2.6.32/
I followed the directions and suggestions at various places in the main thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702&page=1617
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702
Other bits of information:
The access point works with other wifi devices.
The phone connects to the access point with the stock ROM.
The phone doesn't connect even if the access point is open and no other devices are connected.
The phone doesn't connect to a different open access point.
The phone does see the access points.
The phone says connecting as the bars next to my access point changes from 1 to 4 bars and back again.
The phone does connect for cellular data (t-mobile usa).
The 3/28 and 3/31 builds behave the same way.
Any other suggestions to get wifi to work?
Thank you.

CM10.1 (notice the .1 thing) is experimental and not for daily use, only for devs use. Use CM10 instead.
EDIT: http://quarx2k.ru/cm10-2ndboot-nightly-defy(+)/ is the one you need.

Both gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip and gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip seem to work fine with the 10.1 3-26 build. I got them from:
goo dot im slash gapps

I just gave that a try. After the installation it won't boot - just a black screen. I suspect it is due to the efuse that the defy has that won't let you install older versions after you go forward.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216982
I looked at the page at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013059
The 2.6.32 based builds seemed relatively stable, thus I chose that one. The 3.0.8 kernel builds were clearly marked as experimental.

I just tried the CM10 again and it installed, so it must not have been an efuse issue. Not sure why it hung during boot on the last attempt. In any case the 10-26 CM10 build has the exact same wifi behavior as the 10-26 CM10.1 build. Wifi won't connect.
Thank you for the suggestion though.

3/24 builds and beyond got a new wifi driver by quarx. try CM10 3/18, it's the last build with the old driver. You're right, I just realize there's a "seems stable" branch of CM10.1 but I cant tell because it's very recent. You linked to CM10 posts and there's a dedicated CM10.1 thread. I suppose new CM10.1 uses the new wifi driver. Also notice CM10 needs specific gapps and you cannot use the gapps for CM10.1, check goo.im chart for compatibility. I use that gapps for CM10: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864796 they're lighter than goo.im ones (which almost fulls the /system partition) because they're optimized for defy.
EDIT: Also notice that new wifi driver needs the /data/misc/wifi folder to be deleted at first boot and reboot for recreation. Also try another Access Point because some poeple is complaining about some routers not working with the new driver. Good Luck.
Bye!

So far, the 3/7 build has been stable and working well for me.

You may have flashed the wrong gapps. If you are updating from an older version of custom rom, I recommend you to wipe data.

I did do a full wipe before each attempt. That seemed like a good plan to minimize the chances of something going wrong.
I think I used the correct gapps. The google apps (gmail, store, etc.) all seem to work.
I had this problem before and I fixed it.
You can do the following steps below:
1. Flash the latest version of cm10.1, do not wipe.
2. Go to custom recovery, then go to wipe, then advanced wipe, choose wipe system and cache. There will be a cross on the left of them. Do not wipe others. Do not reboot or else your phone will be unusable.
3. Flash the rom again which you had flashed just now. Then, flash gapps.
4. Reboot, ENJOY!

I am facing exactly same problem.
were you able to get your wifi work on new drivers beyond 26/3 for CM10 and CM10.1 ??
Please share any workaround or any info you gathered here.

No, I have not had any CM build after March 7 work on my Defy. But, I have not tried any builds other than those listed in my original post. The March 7 build did what I needed it to do (got Google Hangouts working on my phone). So, the March 7th build is the one still installed on my phone.
I have installed CM 11 beta 9 Kitkat custom rom today on my HTC One international version. It seems to be a very stable rom - no majot issues so far. But I found one issue which is very annoying. When WIFI is out of range, data connection is not restored automatically. If airplane mode was turned on and off, data connection is established. Anyone experienced this problem already? If yes, could you please suggest a fix for this?
Hi,
I am rooted using the TWRP kltespr version. I flashed CM11 4-07 nightly and at first lost the ability to make calls but still had LTE data (go online, get email). After a reboot I lost both completely. Can't make calls and can't get data. I have done a complete wipe and clean installs of a few nightly versions. They all install without errors but I still can't get connected to my network. I have done several factory resets. Under mobile network data is enabled, I have tried "prefered network type" set to LTE, Global and 3G. Still no network.
Any help/suggestions getting my network connection back will be appreciated,
thank you
Search for how to fix your APN. I would say to upgrade your version too, the latest build from October does not have this problem anymore I believe.
Just about every AOSP rom is bssed on CM 11 now if your using offical CM 11 rom. I have flased several official. yhey yo spell out KLTESPR. but I chsnged the updater script no problem
Hello all, it all started on 5.1.1. I flashed a new build of carbon and suddenly it was searching for WiFi constantly and not finding it at all. So I did a clean install of exodus and then cm 12.1. So I went back to stock locked my boot loader on 6.0.1. The WiFi issue still persist. Twrp 2.8.7
1 and radio/modem for mmb29k. So my question is what is going on. Any hope for me or is device done for.
It is possible that the wifi chip is defective. I would try flashing a stock LP build to rule out mm as being the cause.
I had two nexus 5 phones that also suddenly failed to connect to any networks the wifi was stuck at "turning on". I could only solve the problem by swapping in a new motherboard.
Oh that sucks. Thanks for the reply. Will try your suggestion and will look further into this issue.
