P6200 or P3100? - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

Hey, what would you recommend?
They both have 3G, GPS-GLONASS and so on. Only CPU is different as far I know.
I am surprised 6200 is rarely available now compared to the 3100 which is plenty. Why's that?

p6200 is much more powerful but its much less popular - gt2 forum is much bigger, there is more stuff(roms, kernels etc.), but if u want better tab then choice is simple n one p6200 ofc...

So in longer perspective Tab Plus is less worthy? Would be it possible to move ROMs from 3100 to 6200? As far I know it is just still Android.
I can take Plus for 10 EUR more than 3100 - about 230 vs 240 EUR but scene of mods is quite important for me... however at the second hand I'll use it mostly for navigation.

Im of the same opinion, just saying.

You all vote for Plus - but what about mods? Can I move 3100 ROM mods to 6200 or it is dependent of processor?
In this area 6200 is poor compared to the 3100.

No you cant move 3100 rom mods to 6200.. but plus is much better.. higher CPU.. camera flash.. and have you read about multi window mod for the tab plus? I bet that tab 2 dont have that..

I have P6210 wifi-only which I can use at home or in a hotel, or through a prepaid modem while on the road occasionally. Best flexibility for me, I'm not locked in to a particular carrier or a monthly data subscription. Also it has infra-red communication, which can be programmed as a TV remote control. (I don't recall if P6200 has that, pretty sure Tab2 doesn't.)

mods? what kind of mods?

Dealbreaker for me was the p31xx's camera. No led, no autofocus. It took horrible pictures that are blurry in all but the most ideal conditions. Granted most aren't getting these devices to rely on only for the camera... but still... it irked me enough to sell it and get the p6210. Plus now that JB is available for it, it's even better.

Thx for input guys. When I mentioned mods and overall support I meant example XDA. Compare sections for 3100 and 6200. Plus is few times smaller than 3100.
I don't get it - why if Plus has better hardware is less popular than 3100.
Perhaps in my case mods are not so important (I'll use it mostly for videos\net\navigation, where navigation about 90% of the time) but I want to be sure that there is nothing I'd miss.

I think alot has to do with the pricing. At the time the plus was selling for $400 I believe. While the tab2 was selling for $249 and now you can get it under $200 brand new.
Though for that price used you can find a tab plus in good condition, and end up with better specs. Even the upcoming tab3 seems to have lower specs than the plus and it's 2+ years old!
I suppose it depends what mods you really want and what's available. Personally since offical JB came out I can't find anything to complain about. Then again I am more one to have it stock and work stable and not tinker with it much, rather than flashing a bunch of roms/mods all the time.

OK then so I choose 6200. In my case for 235 EUR compared to the 3100's price at 220 EUR. Black\white version (white back cover).
What car charger would you recommend? 2.1 Ampers from car dock will be enough for GPS use?

Now you know why you should get a tab plus

**** happened. There is no more P6200 for ~240 EUR, any left for ~330-360 EUR which is way too high for such tablet IMHO. This one for ~240 is one for whole country from the shop display so it can contain scratches and overall marks of being used.
So I think I have to get 3100 or yearly used P6200 but here I wonder if not to take Asus Fonepad too.
Used P6200 is about 150-170 EUR (one year used).
I wonder about battery... if it not going to be devastated eeping tab alive for 2-3 hours instead of example 8.

lol, if u have in case 250 eur then maybe buy new nexus 7, this tab has better screen also has gps so maybe this will be best way good luck

I've been offered P6200 for 170 EUR, used by one year, warranty still one year ahead. Battery is supposedly in good state, so I am willing to take it.
I'd never take Nexus due to my liking of Samsung's TouchWiz which is great IMHO.

wish ya nice specimen good luck

Please check your needs
1: Display will blow you away 3D is exceptional. On 2d side contrast is good enough though still lags behind Galaxy S/S2.
2: Performance doesn't lag any mobile.
3: I do like the weight but for many heavy.
4: Ghost call issue was very visible on v21a but haven't have any since v20b may be i wasn't able to detect. if you can survive Froyo then no GCs there.
5: Battery hmmm really is the real culprit. In initial days you will use a lot of 3d and might consume your battery within 3 hours.
6: Custom ROM development is nothing compared to other famous sets.
7: 920 and 925 are same 920 roms on 925 doesn't kill it.
Battery life on other dual cores isn't good either only real alternative is S2 but they themselves have pink spot issue (just for proving nobody's perfect).
After removing almost all LG bloatware and minimal usage (4-5 3d pics, 10-15 mins of 3d viewing, 1.5 hrs of talk, hour of wifi email/browsing,<10 mins of gaming, some gps), 100% in morning and 15% next day 8 P.M.
So if you like 3d no competition O3d
If 3d not important and you have more money S2.
If custom ROM development important S2
If Battery life important S2
I believe that you are getting a p925 considering it can utilize all ROMs for p920 and at a very nominal price. so if you cant afford S2 its an excellent buy.

+1 for the informative reply
I also want to add p920 has amazing hardware with the omap 4430 and the powerVR 540 you can play all resouce hungry games with no worries.
I paid for mine here in Egypt around $400 and in my opinion I think it's fair for the device if they provide us with a working ICS OS in the next months.

Here's a video I've made running Tegra games (some of them) on O3D, using ThiaiZ Prada ROM. In general, performance if goode, not the ultimate phone but surely a good one for playing, listening music, for a unique 3D phone.
For me is perfect, because I'm a 3D fan - LG 3D Tv set (PX950), FujiFilm Real3d W1 camera...

Be yourself to judge this phone. Go to a shop and feel it, touch it... read this forum...
I bought mine for 350 euro and my wife's for 300 euros (2 weeks later, with a promotional sale).
I just bought an Optimus 3D and I can't believe how good it is. Managed to get a very very cheap second hand one. Got it with the intention of playing with it a bit before selling it on but it's shockingly good.
Not only is the whole 3D thing entertaining but it's quite smooth and fast as a phone too. Yeah, it's no Galaxy S II, but I was expecting something clunky and slow which put far too much focus on 3D content. Instead, I got something quite pleasant to use.
And if you're into showing off, then this is definitely the phone for you . You can only impress other tech nerds with your nexus, but this thing will have everyone clamoring to be in a 3D photo.
A gimmick? Yes. A Fun one? Also yes. And aren't all phones just gimmicky anyway?

Exactly the same situation here. If Samsungs new device sucks then its definately gotta be the S. Just hoping that the Galaxy's screen isnt as big as the One X's one. It's just too much... :what:

Well, even though it has it critics, and I do go through periods of using AOSP (and prob will on the S once it's available and stable) I still think Sense is the best custom UI on Android. Simple really, SGS3 can't match that element
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Supposedly its going to have a 1080p screen, to me this is a bad thing.
1) I bet it is bigger than the ONE S and I wasn't quite happy with the size of the ONE X
2) It takes more horse power to run it, so its processor and graphics may be higher but side by side performance will probably be similar due to it having to push more pixels about the place. Also.. 1080p.. on a phone... What's the F'in point??
First i'm 100% sure that Galaxy S III won't have 2gb of ram neither 1080p screen. Its a next generation and since theres obvious settlement betwen manufacturers you can expect same specs as One X. And i'm also pretty sure that it won't have SD card, every manufacturer stops using them, why should they use them, about removable battery i'm not sure, if new galaxy is gonna be thinner then i guess it will have non removable battery.
I think the S3 will have 4.7 screen, so its big, also display will be as good as X. About other specs - I suspect quad core processor, some good graphic component, rumors about 12mp camera.
But anyway, there are only rumors atm, and Im not fan of S2, so I will go for One S as soon as it avaible here

If it takes T-mobile US as long as it did to get the Galaxy S 2....i'm not waiting.
But then again, i don't want to wait. Im tired of Samsung's plastic devices, ugly touch wiz, and international Galaxy S3 will be different from the US Galaxy S3, which will hinder dev support.
Im sure the one s will have great dev support like the sensation. Every one S around the world will be the exact same and will run the same roms.
The only thing i was hating about htc phones was the bad slcd screen, so happy theres amoled now, and i dont care if its pentile.

kinda yes, I really like GS2 and SAMOLED Plus is great. But we still don't know if GS3 will be SAMOLED HD or SAMOLED HD Plus. It's most likely be the same size as One X, packing same or better CPU, probably same or better quality camera, and most likely missing things like notification light and noise canceling mic.

Same boat as @tf442. I have a "first month out" Vibrant and GPS has been abysmal from the get-go. I have flashed at least a dozen ROMS (probably more)from Bionix, Trigger all the way to ICS 4.0.4 and they vary, but still no where near other manufacturers GPS. I will not give $$$ to Samsung since they went on the pine in acknowledging any issues with GPS. That, and quit with FROYO. Not good for a top-end phone at the time.
I am eligible for upgrade now, but I don't think I am going to. I might wait out until mid to end-year to upgrade. I am pretty satisfied with my G2 still. Everyone swears it's a great backup phone, but I like it as my main phone all the same.

Is th skyrocket still a good phone to get?

I've been looking into it for awhile and I can get it now for $29 with my upgrade. I have also been looking at the Sony Xperia ion....and it's free at the moment. They seem to have the same hardware other than the ion having a 12mp camera. Do you all still enjoy your phone and would you still recommend this one?
it's still a good phone but the gs3 is a bit better.
The s3 is better. Internals are pretty much the same. Good CPU (1.5ghz) with meh gpu (skyrocket has adreno 200 gs3 has adreno 220?). But the bigger screen, higher resolution, and better battery life would be worth the extra $$$ to me. Just my 2 cents

It's an amazing phone. If you don't wanna spend $200 on an S3 this is undoubtedly the best option.

Skyrocket and Xperia ion have the same CPU/GPU and has similar insides.
The Xperia has a slightly bigger screen but is also 1280x720 resolution (vs 800x480 on the Skyrocket)
The Xperia has a better camera 12mp (vs 8mp on the Skyrocket)
But the only con with the Xperia ion is the development community is not as big or at least not on XDA and I don't see them on the Cyanogenmod list so they may not be getting a lot of support in terms of custom ROMs (if you like to customize).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1659
The phone was released around June time so it could get bigger overtime but that usually depends on how much people will go for that phone but in most cases its overshadowed by the Samsung S3.
If you can get an S3 as a choice it would be better because it has a larger community, its new and its Samsung's current flagship phone so they will have continued support for a while and hardwarewise it is superior to both the Skyrocket and Xperia as it has the newer S4 CPU (vs the S3 CPU) which is more faster and efficient so even if you dont tweak it you will have good battery life.
In terms of Xperia vs Skyrocket the Skyrocket has a larger community and our community is not as big as Galaxy S3 or Nexus but on the other hand the Xperia ion just came out a few months ago so there is a potential there but its not confirmed as most people looking for new phones usually go for the Galaxy S3. Another alternative that I think is good is the HTC One X but that all depends on if you like the looks and such but I think the One X is a good phone as well .
Up coming phones to look out for (if costs doesnt matter)
LG Galaxy Nexus 4 (Nexus 2)
Galaxy Note 2 (big phone)
HTC One X+ (beast mode version of One X)
Lumia 920 (windows 8 phone)
Asus Padfone 2 (ability to mount on tablet)
Theres more but those are the ones I can think of at the top of my head. :good:

To answer your question directly yes it is. However, if you have an option to get something better why not? I have the skyrocket and for the first time I'm in no rush to get an upgrade. In my opinion the roms out for it keeps it up to date with most phones being released right now. My wife have the S3 and I'm not going to lie it is better, but not that much where I feel I have to update. I'm waiting for the next wave of phone releases.

Skyrocket is still a pretty good phone. Luckily when it first came out it was a little ahead of its time spec-wise. LTE, dual 1.5 processor, larger battery than the regular S2. It's still rolling with the punches and if you decide to use custom Roms, the Devs in this Skyrocket forum are SUPERB! I too just upgraded my wife's phone(S2) to the S3. I like my Skyrocket(running custom JB Rom) enough that I let my wife use my upgrade brownie points! If you plan on keeping your phone for a couple years, the S3 is the way to go. Didn't think I would be jealous of my wife's new phone but that thing is freakishly awesome! The size to weight ratio and performance is unbelievable! Feels good and looks even better. The only thing else I'm going to say(since I'm rambling)is if you can hold out a couple more months there will be upwards of 5 new Nexus devices coming out. The LG Optimus "whatever" being one if them. It's hard to beat these just on the support they receive alone.

I tried moving to the S3 (purchased from craigslist) from my skyrocket, but I hated the home button. I decided to resell the S3 and keep my Skyrocket. I'm currently using SkyJB which has the S3 Touchwiz.
I am looking at this phone too, but I would be buying a used one rather than using an upgrade. The GS3 is very nice, but I think it is getting a little too big for me, I think I would rather have the slightly smaller non-pentile screen, and from what I can tell it doesn't seem like the CPU on the GS3 is just hugely better. Both seem very well supported by Cyanogenmod which is very important to me, though the GS3 will probably be supported longer since it is newer (and probably outsold the skyrocket as well).
I was thinking about getting the next Nexus, but removable battery and SD slot are important to me, so I am leaning away from it.
Here are a few pic comparison, not really that great of a comparison but take it for what its worth
Skyrocket, iPhone 4, S3:

Skyrocket, S3:
The free 2100mAH battery you can get from Sprint via Accessories thread:
And S3, iPhone 5
:good:
Pretty much I have experiences with all these devices and I still think the Skyrocket is a good phone. Like previously mentioned think of it as a Galaxy S2.5
The s3 is great but I can't see much reason to upgrade. The only major benefit is that there is a true jb kernel so you may have better jb roms. I personally would wait for the nexus announcement and make a decision. Even if you don't like the new phone the gnex price should drop.

I actually just got my skyrocket a couple weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I did get it off eBay because I was bored of my captivate and wanted something different, and not being too impressed with the s3 I have saved my upgrade till something comes out that really impresses me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Is phone X better than phone Y? No idea since no two people use smartphones these days in the same way. It depends on which device you are upgrading from. My case it was the Captivate which had terrible GPS. Finally had enough and I am finally happy with the phone overall. One negative mark in my opinion is the development for the Skyrocket is not as busy as the Captivate was / still is. Meaning I only see one custom kernel for the Skyrocket. The Captivate at one time had 2-3.

I do not get the idea:
Does every new phone needs to be bigger than previous one? Samsung ... you are going wrong way (ACE: 3.5 --> 3,8 --> 4 inch).
I love Ace 2 because it has perfect size to be operated one handy and screen big enough to be comfortable. Also it does not look silly in pocket or near head like Note 2.
Can phone makers just put high performance guts in 4 inch phone? Like Apple did in 4s and 5. Does Apple have patent for making small high end phones?

I experienced other "thing" which maybe answer your question.
Three years ago, when I grab galaxy s in my hand, my thoughts are: omg, too big. And I bought... spica
My next phone was zte blade. When I had to return to spica, the screen was so small, uncomfortable.
But still, I was convicted, that my next phone shouldn't have 4+ inches screen (still too big for me). And I bought ace 2. But when I was in telephony operator's shop last time, I took galaxy s4 into my hands and, surprisingly, I didn't feel it's too big anymore. I took galaxy note 2: omg, it isn't too big either!!
You know what I want to say?
And I'm no teenager for some time, my hand don't grow up anymore

Nice, but the difference is really small.
Almost same design
Almost same screen size
Both have jelly bean
Almost same CPU frequency
A little bit more RAM on Ace 3 (the main difference)
I don't think Ace 3 will become very popular, Ace 2 didn't.
The only things I require for a phone:
Dual-core CPU (we have)
Android (we have)
Good software support/development (not so much)
@judas1977
I am not a teenager also. I am damn old adult. I can buy beer, watch porn n'stuff. But I got your point.
I was thinking about replacing Ace 2 (3,8) with LG L9 (4,7inch) or SII (4,3 inch). I even bought LG L9 and this phone was like OMG, so wonderful screen. But then I realised I cannot put it into mu jeans pocket, I cannot operate it this using one hand and it has no added value to "phone activities" over Ace2. I needed to carry additional belt-case just for phone. All added value brought from big phone was in fact waiting at home with relatively large and cheap tablet (chinese 7 inches with RK3066). That is why I went back to Ace 2. LG L9 was sold 10 days later. My wife have Galaxy S Advanced and i think it is just a bit too big for me.
I no not need to enlarge my [Censorship] with the phone
I understand how market makes demand on bigger and bigger phones, but I am customer that expect something different and I did not found a product that can fulfill my needs. As many people are, as many demands are. I would like to have <4 inches, nice hardware, aluminium, Nexus like experience.
Have something like this ... Shut Up And Take My Money! (maybe Xperia M??)
@bomikar
I do not know how Ace 2 is selling in other countries. In Poland it is best selling phone now.
I agree with you that beside community support ... Samsung support sucks.
Or maybe something like this. All in all, I am disappointed about how things are going with Samsung.
One of my friends has a Desire Z, and I got my GF an Optimus Black. My god, I love those devices. Somehow, manufacturers forgot about the spirit of Android. Aka latest tech and build at an affordable price. Everyone is so caught up into giving the finger to Apple that they actually forgot about us.

And I'm not saying I'll buy some 4,7+ inches monster (probably still something under 4,3), but I wanted to show that expectations could change with time passing...
Yes, I dreamed about something like 4 inches nexus too (but galaxy nexus was bit too outdated)

Samsung is flooding the market with half-assed upgraded phone with specs that's not really special and especially screen size which is way below the standard for 2013.
Damn, I wish they at least release one phone with 720p 4-4.3", dual 1.7 or quad 1.2 processor, 1-2 GB RAM, and big ass battery to compete against Xperia SP. I'd buy that without thinking twice.

Yeah, that's what really kills the S4 Mini, I wouldn't mind if they raise the price by 50 USD if it means giving a 720p screen, I'd buy it the moment it goes out. Arrrggghhhh,,, S4 Mini, Y U NO 720p???

if Samsung will not treat S4 Mini the same as SIII Mini, then I will prob get it too. The problem is, SIII Mini was just updated its android version to +0.0.1 but then nothing from the flagship's sought after features has been given to the mini version. (yes, multiwindow and other stuff.)

I don't think I will get a Samsung phone after my contract with my Ace 2 ends unless Samsung just pulls a 180-degree turn in their phones.

Can without problems
I don't think that ace III Will have 4.2.2 because yet only s4 got 4.2.2 and s3 got first leak so think it will be 4.1.2

[butthurt thread] do not buy this phone

Epic slow official updates, epic high price (I bought this for 475$ in my country, yeah, I know that it's highly overpriced), crappy firmware, slow development.
Go buy Nexus 4 instead.
That's all, thanks.

Well i got it from my carrier at no cost, and i my month bill is around 15 euros so it was a good deal for me. Official JB is crap but CM10.1 is awesome and I think people shoud get this phone because it will probably get 4.2 at some point.
In my country it has the best price-quality relationship (better than S2). The S3 and S4 are so expensives. Of course you need to know how to root and change the kernel to take adventage of the hardware it has, else JB will be laggy. People with money and no experience with android may opt for an S3 or S4.
This not the end, we're waiting for ST-Ericsson to release the sources. If it happens this smartphone will be even better.
I want an XPERIA SP or ZL ): Lot of reasons... Have to wait 5 months until getting some of these ):
But, anyways, love CM, look at this.
Needed some initial tweaking with Pimp my Rom to decrease nearly more than 120Mb of RAM
I'd prefer CM10 (it's CM10.1) but this seems to get stabler soon than a version already out. 4.1.2

Hey, I'm using this phone for about 4 months now and I've tried everything, but it's still very slow. CM is good, but atm it has too much bugs to use it as a daily driver.
Also, go on and check your displays in service tests, guys (*#0*# on stock rom). Mine had got a lot of artefacts (horizontal and vertical lines on different colors, textured and sort-of yellow white color, etc.), also it's overheating as hell now (it's so hot sometimes that I can't touch it), so I'm going to return it. Going to service tommorow.
When I bought was great choice.
Today there are more options.
But I still like Galaxy Advance ..
It was what I needed.I like the screen, video recordings, photographs, sound quality, overall stability. When I bought already knew these details and for me it was enough.
Also never had problems with calls, SMS, GPS, Bluettooh, etc..
When JB came shortly met COCORE and lags are gone.
Always used STOCK ROM. Only root and Cocore.Use only one MOD (Beats Audio)
In my case I can not complain.
It works.
Not my feel "cheated"
Quite the contrary.
About customs roms, etc ... To me they are a bonus, but not really necessary.
The Galaxy Advance will continue to serve me well until the next choice.

+1 on nexus 4. Still my choice even if it's a bit old now. :highfive:
I think its quite obvious that whoever will buy now choose one of many releases that have emerged.
it's normal to want others with more powerful CPU, Ram, etc..
Since 9070 was released many others were.
it depends on the needs each user.
And make no mistake. After "buy the gadgets of your dreams today," very soon no longer be.
At the time, in my country (argentina) the SGSA was offered at less than half the price of an S2 (the S2 was like 2500 and I paid 1200 for my SGSA). Definitively a good buy for me, money-wise.
I'm just disappointed by samsung's JB release, looks like they didn't put much effort in it, but i've come to learn that you should expect that for a mid-end device. Sometimes it's better to buy an old flagship like the S2 because it has better support overall by the devs, and by the manufacturer
HTC One Mini looks like it's gonna be awesome though (talking about mid-end market)
Jelly Bean was not perfectly implemented in any model.
There were several problems. Including the Google version.
http://goo.gl/KhKIO
I do not know why it should be perfect for I9070.
Search NEXUS users if they stay with the JB Google.
They take the gadget and then swap the rom.
In version 4.2.2 it was still fixing bugs, including performance.
And I do not know if finished.
I got mine for free on a cheap contract, it was either this or the LG L7(no thanx) it has some issues but no big deal, I might get a nexus 4 in a month or two

It is still a decent phone, IF it is rooted, have a custom kernel and bloatware eliminated.
