I was tempted to post something along the same lines but didn't want to put down OP's buy choice lol.
I have a pair of cheap bluetooth headphones and with software mods I can't tell the difference between these and beats headphones. If you're gonna spend the money best to get quality over gimicks.

How is the sound enhancement any more "actual" on Bose than on Beats? I'm no Beats fan, but how headphones sound is all a matter of personal taste. If you like the way a set of headphones sound over another, or just like the freaking logo on the side, power to you.
IMO Bose is as much of a joke as Beats is. You can get equal or better quality headphones for less money than either. Both Bose and Beats are just marketing fluff, and a case of people buying what is trendy, popular, and well advertised.
Anyway, we all digress. The point of the OP was the mod, not the specific headphones. I'd be curious to hear the OP describe exactly what makes it sound so "amazing", as that word really doesn't mean much. Sound fuller, better bass or treble response, more volume, etc.?
Is this been tried on sense 5 Rom?

I actually got the studios for cheap off a friend that need money lol but I really wouldn't spend tons of money on headphones. They do sound good though its all personal choice. But as I said it made the sound way better. Yes it was tried on the sense 5 ROM turn beats eq off and use the viper4android and you will see the difference

To each his own, but my personal preference when I am spending several hundred dollars on a pair of headphones is to get something that accurately reproduces the audio fed to it. Beats is heavy on the bass and Bose products (aside from their car speakers) just sound like garbage to me. Check out a pair of Sennheisers or Grados. Any distortion of the sound should be done intentionally with a preamp or equalizer. Just my $0.02.

all I did was download the apk install it and change the settings to what I posted. Nothing else. I have only tried it on the sense 5 ROM. you have to have the box checked in the app for it to work i think it says enable viper or something like that
Bose o_0 I thought it's common knowledge, that Bose is all marketing and way to expensive.
There are other very good headphonemakers. Yuin for example. They basicly reinvented earbuds (not the INear ones) and are a top product. At the moment Blox seems to make the best earbuds on the market and are praised all over the net (that small part of the net that still uses earbuds...) but they are hard to come by. I am using some Sunrise AS-Feelings and I was missing bass with these but as it turns out, they are capable to produce a quite decent bass, they are just not tuned to do it out of the box. With Viper4Android and the Clearbass IRS, these sound awesome and are killer for the price. Other soundmods as Beatsaudio or AC!D didn't help. As my earbuds break after 1-2 years I don't want to spent a huge amount of money.
I don't like Inears, so don't tell me earbuds are bad. Maybe once this was true but it's not anymore.
Does this have any effect on built-in speaker? Miss xloud + clear phase on viper!

Gonna add onto the Sennheiser bandwagon. I have (had, they just broke ) a pair of Sennheiser CX150 earbuds. Clearest, best bass I've ever heard on earbuds and FANTASTIC overall sound quality. Now that I need a new pair I'm looking into getting a pair of CX300 II's. Sennheiser is great, and their products are very reasonable prices.

Similar thread to one in the General section. Here's my post from that one;
Beats Audio is basically Dr. Dre's idea of what EQ settings you should have when some Beats Audio high performance equipment is plugged in. A stock phone with Beats Audio (Sensation XE) will detect the official Beats headphones (somehow) and Beats Audio will apply a certain EQ.
It's not like beats audio means it has any special audio processing hardware. It is simply an EQ tailored to get the "best" sound out of a specific set of headphones (and make Dr. Dre more ‘paper’). If you are not planning on using Beats headphones, then it is kinda redundant. I'm simply curious to see if this EQ is better than my custom one using PowerAmp. (PowerAmp is also currently running a 2.0 Beta from their website. Check it out.)
I have yet to test it myself, but I would imagine that unless you are planning on splashing out £100+ on Beats headphones, you are best of sticking with using PowerAmp and it's awesome equaliser to tune the sound to best suit the headphones you already have. Much Cheaper! Also the hack that needs to be applied, so that beats activates with any headphones can't possibly apply a different EQ for each set of headphones. It'll be one fixed bass/treble tweak designed to compliment the Beats headphones bundled with the Sensation XE. That's the best reason to get the XE. Those headphones would normally cost over £100 and are meant to be very good.
Since we are on the topic, we all know the headphones supplied with the Desire S are shocking. I can highly recommend the a-Jays One. IMO you'll not get a better sound for £20! Plus the cable is truly tangle-free! I'd have been very happy with these had they cost me £60.
(Also wins the prize for the most over-packaged product I've ever bought. The case is good for keeping anything you want to survive the nuclear apocolypse.)

If you have rooted, install CWM recovery, make nandroid backup..flash Endymion 3.3 ROM, Which is awesome and that is my daily use ROM with lots of feature. I think beats audio is only available in custom ROM.
Is Beats Audio really that good?
Whats the difference to winamp i.e.??
i've read that you have to use beat earphone to know the difference.
i prefer srs sound.. beats mode have to much hight frequency.
Yes this lets understand this Beats Audio a bit better first. I used to ask for it until I read a bit more into it.
Firstly, it’s mostly a marketing gimmick. It is not as if any ‘Beats’ phones have any special sound processing hardware. It is simply someone’s idea of the best EQ setting, designed specifically to match a pair of Beats Audio headphones. Dr Dre has then stuck his name on it, to make him lots of money and lend some street credibility to it. Yo.
It sort of makes sense only if you are using official Beats headphones, on official Beats equipment. What normally happens is that the official Beats phone (lets say for the sake of argument it’s the HTC Sensation XE) recognises when official Beats headphones are plugged into it. It then applies this beats EQ, which is specifically designed to get the most out of this specific set of headphones.
Custom ROMs are simply snatching this part of the ROM from the Sensation XE, plonking it on your custom ROM, and frigging the headphone input detection so that it thinks ANY headphones plugged in are official Beats headphones.
The result will be a forced EQ that unless your are using the Beats headphones bundled with the XE, will be completely mis-matched to the headphones you are using. Likely as not it will sound pony. I’ve tried it on 3 sets of headphones ranging from cheap £10 efforts, a mid-range pair of Skull Candys, and my nice new pair of a-Jays. In all three cases I was better off using a decent player app like PowerAmp, and using the EQ in that to tune the sound to match the headphones being used.
Excellent statement, wnp, and very well put together
I agree, I use beats on my pair of bog standard Phillips in-ear headphones and to be honest, I cannot tell the difference.

And i must say that id did sound better on iFROGZ headphones... So better that i used stock player instead of my favourite PlayerPro.
Ofcourse, beats can't be anything else than propperly set equilizer...
I hope that guys from PlayerPro will include it in their next release.

I can still say theres quality in the music..
Can say it makes a huge difference using pro Sennheiser and Technics headphones. (not in ear ones)
Just a heads up to those who may not know, there is a Beats Audio/xLoud mod/port on the board and it works on the Atrix 2. Beats adds a deeper, cleaner bass and cleans up the mids/highs too. xLoud is a Sony Ericsson thing, it basically boosts the overall volume of ur audio. I just flashed this mod to my phone and holy ****, huge difference! I had to turn all my volumes down media/ringer/alarms. My good cans are packed (moving this weekend) so no testing with them yet but after hearing the difference I just heard with only the phone speaker I'm expecting to be very happy.

So how does the mod affect the Motorola stock equalizer?
I'm assuming the beats audio is only effective in the My Music app? So do I have to disable the "Effects" in settings to hear the Beats Audio? Or should I switch that to custom?
This work well seems crisper...... Did notice if the bass is overpowering the mids and lows go to sound settings and un-tick enable audio effects..... For me with headphones will set effects enabled effects profile custom surround ambient eq bass punch WOW!!!!!

Mine are....I have had to turn all my volumes down since installing this mod. I haven't done any critical listening since I don't use my phone like that anyway, I was just hoping for louder system sounds and that's exactly what I got. The Beats is just an added bonus.

Hello to all, I was just wonder what sound enhancer people are using these days? I come from an Android device with DSPManager on it which would give extremely rich bass. Beats audio, although enhances my sound somewhat, is no comparison. I tried installing other EQ apps but they have no effect on my device. I think maybe the Beats engine is conflicting with other EQ plugins.
If anyone could share what they use or how they got it to work I would much appreciate it I'm thinking about rooting my device and uninstalling Beats with Titanium just to test it out. Thanks guys!
I'm pretty sure I saw another thread about this. As you may already know, Beats is just a bass heavy EQ setting.
I don't know why certain DSP programs don't seem to have any effect on this phone. The only consensus I've seen if that apps like PowerAmp work the best for actually tweaking the EQ.
IDK why lots of people diss on Beats Audio on their phone. I've tried most of these eq apps and Beats gives me the best sounding music through my ear buds than any other. JMHO

I am not sure what Beats does. A t-mobile sales guy told me it decompresses the sound file. Whatever it is I am not impressed and it seems like marketing hype to me. I would prefer to remove it. I just signed with t-mobile and I am checking out the service and the phone so I am not ready to root or flash. I have not even seen a way to disable beats.
It's easy to disable. Plug in a headset, go to Sound and there you have an option for Beats. On German One S it's name is: Klangverbesserung. I don't know the english name.

Thanks. I should have thought to plug a headset in and then look for settings. Eviently disabling it in the notification bar did the same thing although at the time the notification option was persistent. It is gone now.
BEATS
beats is the most powerful tool to optimize the music.. works with my gaming Headset and Bose in Ear.. Top Sound..
I just traded a watch for some beats headphones (studios) and realized the integrated beats thingy has no affect one beats headphones. If you shut it off the headphones automatically adjust back to "beats" performance. Idk what this concludes but thought I would share.

From my experience, Beats boosts both treble and bass, thus making it sound richer. It is disabled by going to Settings>Sound>Sound Enhancer. Just click 'no enhancements'. Headphone must be plugged in to do so. I leave it enabled in combination with PowerAmp for pretty good quality. Still not as good without DSPManager :'(
Started to use Poweramp before DSP was invented The EQ is doing a good job and for the most time i like the sound of it. In the first days of DSP I uninstalled it because it drained to much battery.
Beats is also nice, but i don't like that it turns on for every sound the phone does.
So i am finaly back to deinstalled DSP & Beats and using Poweramp only =)
I keep reading a lot about Harman, but I have been using ViperFX with no problem at all, since it works great. What reasons can you give me to flash Harman?

I too have been waiting for an in-depth comparison between boomsound and Harman Kardon sound. No one seems to care about that particular subject so far.
I tried the HK mod and while I had issues with the settings sticking, the sound wasn't all that.
The Clari-Fi setting makes some of the mids and highs sound clearer, and can result in a crisper sound should the song have a healthy amount of those frequencies. Typically highs and mids are the first to go in a compressed song, so saying this setting restores lost quality is debatable. This is where I want to see an in depth article.
LiveStage setting is just bad. As far as I can tell this setting was specifically designed for the included HK ear buds that come with the phone. Playing it through my car speakers just made it sound muddy and dull. This option kept re-enabling itself so ultimately I went back to the original firmware.
Currently I use Viper with Boomsound. It sounds better than anything I was able to achieve with the HK mod.

The difference I heard was not when using standard mp3 setting but It has the ability to play back lossless, higher bit rate audio recordings.

Do Harmon or Viper sound noticably better than Boomsound? I just went through a process of testing several expensive pairs of headphones and none of them sounded good. I finally tried my old earbuds that I like and realized that it was Boomsound that sucked.
Boomsound does suck. H/K isn't really good either. These are all glorified EQ settings. Boomsound just pumps up the bass, and in so doing, muddies up the sound.

To be accurate, they're more than just EQ settings. There's clearly some compression (sound, not quality) going on albeit a bit overbearing IMO.

To me, Boomsound sounds like a glorfied loudness setting. I really feel like it overamplifies the middle of the curve and makes the mid-highs too shrill. Would I be better off with Viper and more granular EQ settings?
I had the HTC rezound prior to the m8, and I tried the beats mod on the m8, and to be honest, beats on the rezound sounded way better than the BoomSound, h/k, and beats mod for m8... I just haven't tried viper on the m8 yet

Really? The BoomSound on the m8 sounds exactly the same as the beats on my rezound. Are you using the same headphones?

Yeah I used the included headphones from the rezound, and I think overall the rezound was just way more accurate, responsive to type of song, and just better overall. I'm not taking away from the m8 cuz this is such a great phone but it seems like sounds wise. Rezound wins. I ran newts xxx on it from day 1 and the speaker is actually as loud as the m8 also, just not as much bass to it

I thought BoomSound was only for internal speakers.
Can't you turn off BoomSound when having headphones/buds plugged in and listen to the source audio without any augmentations?
I'd imagine that this is what you'd want to do with a set of good cans.
